Don't mind them, the problem with naija is that once an old player has one or two bad games, they would write him off and force a retirement on him. Just before the last World Cup, everyone was talking about how we couldn't play without John Obi Mikel. Gosh, we even gave it a name: "Mikel dependence." Now, Mikel has one bad game and everybody is singing hallelujah that he's retiring. That's exactly how we force retired Jay Jay and we're still searching for a playmaker to this day! While some other people are force retiring Jude Ighalo even when it's obvious to the blind that we don't have another out and out striker! I weep for naija footie sha. O pari andrew444: The best midfielder in the game between naija and Algeria the guy plays for notthingham forest in the championship and the guy is 33

But why will a player be 2 old to play at the national team at 30 ? When Thiago Silva alves and co did it |

That Gernot Rohr person is a master of excuses. Could somebody ask him a simple question. How many champions league players did the Algerian team that played him out of the park parade This man should've been fired immediately after the World Cup. I have never believe that he got what it takes to coach the Super Eagles. If we have to hire a foreign coach, let's hire a coach with a proven track record. O pari forgiveness: Rohr claimed we don't have players in Champions league clubs but that is not true. Kayode Olanrewaju's club plays regularly in the Champions League almost every season. Though we still have some players whose clubs are guaranteed of playing in the group stage. The likes of Sunday Odey, Brian Idowu, Tyrone Ebuehi and Henry Onyekuru are the only Nigerian guaranteed Champions league.
Iwobi Does Not Start Regularly For Arsenal, Leicester Not A 'Big' Club' - Rohr In Search Of A Midfielder To Replace Mikel
Published: July 18, 2019
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has more or less confirmed that John Obi Mikel is set to call time on his international career with the Super Eagles after making 89 appearances.
The German revealed that he is searching for a top midfielder to replace the long-serving Nigeria international and the ideal candidate has to be playing for a top Champions League club.
Though Rohr has praised Ndidi and Iwobi for their performance in Egypt, the German noted that Leicester City are not among the top six clubs in the Premier League while the winger is not a guaranteed starter for Arsenal.
''We have to thank this great player for his career and all that he has done for Nigeria and even if he did not participate in the qualifiers we invited him to participate in this AFCON and he played his role of captain even if he did not play often, and for the team it was good to have him,'' Rohr told reporters.
He continued : ''It is true that we have to search for some midfielders, we have Ajayi, who was in the 25-man list but not in the 23, playing in England. He could play in defensive midfield.
''We have other young players but it depends on what they are doing in their clubs. We don't have players in Champions League clubs for example, we have good players but playing in second division in Germany and England.
''We only have two playing in England regularly but Alex Iwobi does not start all the time at Arsenal and Ndidi is at Leicester but it is not a very big club, so I think we have to work hard to find these players who can replace Obi Mikel.''
Obi Mikel started two group matches against Burundi and Madagascar and his Africa Cup of Nations ended after suffering a knee injury in the final group game.

With that said, anybody who blames Akpeyi for the loss against Algeria is either being grossly unfair or totally clueless about soccer. We didn't lose that game because of the goalkeeper. You guys are unbelievable! Less than one year ago, after the 2018 World Cup, Ahmed Musa was the demi god of the Super Eagles to most of y'all and Jude Odion Ighalo was the worst striker to ever walk the planet earth. Now, less than one year later, Musa is the one who's useless and Ighalo is the super dupa star, eh? Oh boy, am I glad that most of y'all have nothing to do with managing Naija footie! O pari oloriooko: After watching the 3rd place match between Nigeria and Tunisia, i think:
1. Ighalo remains the most lethal and composed striker Nigeria has, no wonder Rohr stuck with him all through and he paid back with 5 goals. 2. Our goalkeeping wahala continues 3. Our midfield requires a good ball holder and distributor cuz Etebo and Ndidi play very similar roles. 4. Musa needs to be relegated to the bench in future matches to give room for upcoming fast wingers 5. Our central defenders can do better than what they are doing.
Above all, Rohr has proven to be a very good coach who should be retained to build a world class team. Congratulations to our darling Super Eagles!!! |

Thank you for posting this tweet, my dear. It validates everything I have been saying since yesterday: Rohr was outcoached, short and simple. Blaming the individual players is sheer naiveté and short sightedness. If you watched yesterday's game, you'd realize that there was only ONE likely winner in that game and that team is: ALGERIA. In fact, even if they didn't score with that freekick, I am pretty sure that they likely could've scored in the extra time as well. Rohr's only game plan was to pack the bus and hopes that the Algerians get tired in the second half or extra time O pari edi287: These guys clearly studied us down to the T. True. But my point is that any player would find it difficult to be creative within Gernot Rohr's set up. Bring in Jay Jay Okocha or Kanu Nwankwo into this team and they would struggle. Either one of Iwobi, Etebo, or Mikel can operate in the creative midfield role, but they would still struggle under the system Rohr puts the team through. As I said on twitter after we played Guinea, Gernot Rohr's system reminds me of the Super Eagles team under the late Shaibu Amodu …. the team was wobbling and fumbling but still getting relatively decent results. O pari Odunayaw: not against Cameroon, in fact I believe it was a shitshow against them. Anyway you make salient points but you're buttressing my point about creativity, we don't expect the wingers to come and start creating do we? Its the midfield's job. See how Mahrez was drifting inside pulling players with him? that's what I expected from us (Similar to how Chukwueze played against SA)
That said, with the squad we had there's no way we wouldn't have hit brick wall. |

We were not just missing a creative outlet, but we also played with no cohesion and it showed. In fact, the only good game we played throughout the whole tournament was the second half against Cameroun. Rohr's system is to just pack the bus and try to get opponents on a counter. We don't move the ball quickly and that slow build up makes it very difficult for the team to score goals. And the lack of movement, especially in the midfield, makes it difficult for us to strings more than 3 passes together. I laugh when I hear folks blaming individual players. To me, our main problem was the system not the personnel. O pari Odunayaw: And was this the same team that faced Algeria in Uyo? Do we have creative outlets? How do y'all keep missing that. For the players we had on the field there was only way we could have played and it was seen & effectively nullified.

No, it doesn't take "years" to build a solid team. Just look at the Algerian team. How many years did it take their coach to simply transform the disjointed and the uncoordinated team we played during the World Cup qualifiers? I agree that we should've let Rohr go immediately after the World Cup but I don't agree that it's already too late to hire a technically sound coach for the 2022 World Cup. Rohr has taken us as far as he can and I don't think he can do better than he had already done. And we won't achieve anything if we stick with him, because our opponents are not standing still … they are improving and we'd need to improve to keep up with them. O pari gamaliel9: Any new coach will start new and it will take years to gel...this team is in an embryo ...about to emerge...i remember the warning..HANDLE WITH CARE...we must show maturity and stick with it like Germany stuck with Low....it not yet time to win from saturday s match...the team needs a little pepper here...a little salt there...a little water over there... |

Enyeama shouldn't have stopped nada. That free kick was very well struck and taken just from the edge of the 18 yard box. I doubt if any goalkeeper in the world would've saved that free kick.
