Exactly! Algeria is the best at this tournament so far. I am not too worried about today game but I am definitely worried about the semi finals especially if Algeria qualifiers as expected.
O pari
Danielnino00: Actually Senegal will face the winner of Madagascar vs Tunisia.
Not a bad line up. Personally, I would've preferred to see Aina in the RB instead of Awaziem. Awaziem is more like a converted midfielder than a natural right back. But other than that, I think this is our best team.
So you just swallowed everything a faceless person on the internet wrote? And that's enough for you to start denigrating Nigerian coaches for bribery? Did you even ask for any evidence of all the crap written there before insulting Amuneke?
I am not even mad at you self. I just feel sorry for you because self loathe, they say, is the worst form of loathe
O pari
Humility017: just imagine... Nigeria coaches and bribery.... keshi did same with Togo almost fought Adebayo because he got signed by Monaco and there was no cut for him...
reason why a Nigerian coach will barely be allowed to coach a European top club... I have always said it... amunike is some one who loves money more than his coaching ambition...he is a good coach no doubt but corruption and bribery I fear for him.
Nah, if Rohr knows what he's doing, Mikel should play Ndidi's role, as holding midfielder, and Ndidi moved up to Etebo's position (as a box to box midfielder). And Etebo should take over the AM position from Iwobi (and Iwobi should deputize him). Alex Iwobi is good but he's inconsistent and tends to get tired after 60-70 mins, so make him a super sub.
O pari
Humility017: I tell you...and he can shot precisely outside the 18 yard box.... he would have perfectly fit the AM/SS role Iwobi plays...coming in as sub sometimes...
I think there's a more diplomatic way of answering that question without highlighting the shortcomings of your players, even if they are "obvious". A real coach promotes his players not bringing them down. How many scouts would put Osihmen at the top of their recruiting list after reading what his national team coach had said about him?
I was appalled about what Rohr said about Iheanacho. Again, I repeat, even if your player isn't doing something right broadcasting it in the media isn't the way to go … deal with the issue directly with the player in private. Ever heard the saying "praise publicly and criticize privately"? It was left for Brendan Rogers to defend Kelechi from his own national team coach.
In fact, I have already made up my mind about Gernot Rohr … win or lose the AFCON, Gernot Rohr must go!
O pari
komekn: I would not describe that as player bashing.
We asked the question why they have not been selected and he described thier individual attributes and why those attributes don't add anything to the team.
Awaziem has done well so far, but I think Aina may be an upgrade on him at the RB position. Remember that Aina is a natural RB playing as a LB.
O pari
OMANBALA1: Ola Aina cant displace Awaziem now. Aina has improved but I am not completely sold. Chidozie Awaziem,on the other hand have remain composed and steadily gaining confidence.
Good point. Naija journos with their silly questions sha. Just like an average naija fan, Naija journos are always more interested on the players who weren't invited or on the players who didn't play.
O pari
edi287: It's obvious dude is irritated by all these questions(he probably reads the comments on here lol)
If Jamilu Collins is 100% fit, then I would expect him to start at LB while Ola Aina move to his natural RB.
That, to me, is our strongest like up.
O pari
charlesemeka85: Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr will likely drop Ola Aina from his starting lineup for the AFCON quarter final game against South Africa.
Base on the training session of the team, Rohr has picked Jamilu Collins in the team that contains most of the regular players ahead of Aina who has so far played in every game for Nigeria.
Aina could however shift to the right back position which is his preferred role but Rohr has been very impressed with the performance of Chidozie Awaziem who has filled in admirably well as cover since the injury to regular right back Shehu Abdullahi in the first game.
Another move made by the coach is the decision to hand a start to Samuel Chukwueze for the second time in this tournament ahead of Moses Simon who will be given a rest for the game.
For now the two changes appear to be the ones the coach will likely make to the team that started the 3-2 win over Cameroon in the round of 16.
h my goodness, I have NEVER seen a coach who bash his players the way Gernot Rohr denigrates his players. First it was Iheanacho and now it's Osihmen. Even if you have something against your player, do you have to broadcast it to the entire world? This man should have been fired immediately after the Argentina mach.
"Onyekuru and Osimhen are young and they are here to learn. Musa and Ighalo are experienced so they are the ones to start. For Onyekuru, he has to first fight with Simon and Chukwueze for a position and then maybe for the central position. For Osimhen, he has to be stronger. In training, any touch he falls down. So I tell him to be strong"
No, he can't. But we're pretty sure he can speak Swahili very fluently
And by the way, what's the relevance of this question in the first place? What has Buhari's ability to speak English, or lack thereof, got to do with the INEC's rigging of the 2019 election? What am I missing
That flood you saw lasted less than 2 hours after the heavy rain ended. And I know because I was there! By 1pm, you won't even knew that it rained in Washington, DC sef.
So the difference between this and the Naija flood is 7UP!
Actually, I still have the DVD of that game myself. They dominated us in the first half but we were the better team in the second half.
O pari
godspeed: Bros na true, they really dominated us in that match. I still have a CD of that match and I have watched it a dozen times, they were the best side on the day. In fact, Lauren etame Meyer was a handful for our defence that day especially for furo iyenemen.
@icons4s, the period u mentioned they dominated us was one of the best era of Cameroonian football, I bet they'll be one of the best teams in the world then( much like we like to see our 94 set)
Remember they qualified for their first world cup in 1982 where I think they even one a match and were on course for the second round before they narrowly missed out out.
It was basically that same team we came up against in 1984 and lost. The same team defended the cup to the final 2 years later where they lost on penalties to host Egypt.
It was almost the same team we came up against in the 88 final and this is the game that really started our bitterness with the Cameroonians because of Henry nwosu's disqualified goal and the soft penalty won by Roger Mills.
You know of course it's basically the 89 team that defeated us in Douala is the first African team to get to the quarter finals of the world cup and arguably the greatest African side to the world cup.
The Cameroonian team that defeated us in 2000 went on to win the Olympics later the same year, defended the cup 2 years later and got to the finals of the Confederation cup- the only African side till date-a year later.
So u can see that the Cameroonian team that caused us pain in the past were really so good and their victories over us were well earned
So you reached these conclusions merely by watching just the highlighted, eh
Wow. Some of the things you read on this forum na halele sha.
O pari
Starboytwo: I watched the highlights of the 2000 Afcon and I think they outplayed a bit Sha.... remember it was 0-2 before we came back....
Ikpeba did not only fumble, at one time the ref was just looking and confused but his gesture (ikpeba) gave him away and the ref just took the easy way....
And till date I still don't understand why we lost "3" finals to them alone....first time, 2nd time, 3rd time even at home, omo dem really do us...we could be on our 7th or 8th title like this self.....
People can blame Ikpeba and Kanu all they like but Ike shorunmu was poor in that match. Those two goals could have been averted and let's not forget the fact that he couldn't catch a single penalty
These Tanzanians are delusional. What did they expect from him? To win the AFCON with that trashy team? Is he a miracle worker?!
They should be happy that he was able to qualify them for the AFCON with that their trashy team. Well, let them sack him, they would revert back to not qualifying for anything again for the next 20 years. Mark my words!
Amuneke ought to be knighted by Tanzania not fired.
Not a bad line up but is Jamilu Collins still injured? I was hoping that Collins should play LB while Aina moves to his natural RB and Awazien goes to the bench.
Now, you guys can understand why I have NEVER been a big fan of Rohr even after he qualified us for the World Cup against all odds. The man has good organizational ability but technically he's naive. He doesn't know how to use his players to get the best out of his players. He doesn't understand the right tactics and style of play to employ against specific opponents.
If I were the NFF, I would definitely get rid of him after the AFCON - win or lose. Actually, I would've fired him after the last World Cup sef. We need to employ a technically sound coach start grooming these young up and coming players for the 2022 World Cup.
I am not too worried about Cameroun, the Super Eagles will surely take care of the Indomitable Lions tomorrow. I am more concerned about our next game against potentially - the Pharaohs of Egypt. The home advantage factor might come into play.
End time pastors. God will judge each and every one of them.
God is not mocked! Trust me, they would receive the greater condemnation.

Oluwolex2000: One of the most shocking and explosive stories you’d be reading today is that of Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola Dakolo revealing how the senior pastor of Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo raped her twice years ago.
In an exclusive interview with YNaija, Busola gave a detailed account of how she met the pastor while she was in secondary school and started worshipping at his then club turned church after a lot of persuasions from her sisters.
Busola Fatoyinbo revealed in graphic details how Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was ruthless and unremorseful during the period he raped her. She went on to reveal how finally opened up to her family about the raped incident and how her brother was held back from attacking Pastor Fatoyinbo. Here are five explosive things Busola Dakolo said about Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo.
1. Their first encounter
“I have to say this is the first time I would be coming out like in public to discuss something with someone else, except my family and my husband. I was still in secondary school and I came home, I was still staying in Ilorin because I was born in Ilorin, went to primary and secondary in Ilorin. I returned home for a particular holiday and my sisters all told me that they are now going to a particular club…I went there and they said time for new first timers to stand up and I did, introduced myself as Busola and explained my journey there,” she said.
She went on to talk about how she wasn’t really interested in coming to the club because of the way they worshiped God but was impressed by the kind of messages and what people had to say.
“After the message, Pastor Bioudun Fatoyinbo preached, he came to meet me after the service, then it wasn’t COZA, it was called Divine Delight Club and he wasn’t married yet but he was engaged to his present wife. He came to meet me and said I was such a bold lady that he had never seen someone like this, that I needed to keep the fire then he said, can you do something in the next meeting before you go to school? He asked me when I’ll be going back to school…then I told him I can sing and he said that’s great. He then said he plays the keyboard that he would help me rehearse. So, I told my sisters,” she said.
For Busola, because she was skeptical about the club, she informed her sister about her unwillingness to actually go ahead with the plan to which they rebuffed her. She, however, agreed and decided to go ahead.
“My sister then took me to his house, he was living with his father and his wife was always there. She left me there because he was already seated by the keyboard. As at then, I didn’t have a phone, even my house, we didn’t have any landline. So he asked me what kind of song I wanted to sing, I did and we rehearsed and I went back home. So the next meeting I did the song and I was singing someone came out to give his life to Christ…after the service he gave me books to read, but it wasn’t at the spot,” she said.
2. How Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo raped her the first time
The first time he visited, he asked if she’d join him on an errand run. Her mother was concerned but didn’t really push when Busola insisted that she wanted to go. They drove in his white Mercedes Benz and finally spoke for the first time. Though she was normally guarded around men, Fatoyinbo was charming, using his knowledge of her family and the absence of her father to gain her trust. Before long, he was visiting the house regularly, engaging her in ways her unavoidably distant sisters weren’t.
“One particular day, Pastor Biodun came to meet me and he said, you don’t like to talk and he was like how are you and I was like I’m fine. He started coming to my house and my family was very involved in the COZA,” she wrote.
Then one morning, Fatoyinbo showed up at her house unannounced. It was a Monday morning early enough that Busola Dakolo was still in her nightgown. Her mother had traveled with her sisters and were absent at service the previous Sunday. He didn’t say a word, forcing her onto a chair, speaking only to command her to do as he said. It took Busola a while to come to terms with what was about to happen, and it was why she didn’t struggle or make a fuss when he pulled down her underwear and raped her. She remembers he didn’t say anything after, left to his car, returned with a bottle of Krest and forced her to drink it, probably as some crude contraceptive. She remembers him saying.
“You should be happy that a man of God did this to you.” At this time, his wife had just given birth to their first child, Oluwashindara.
3. Raping her the second time
She was too terrified to tell her sisters or mother about his violence, stewing in silence for a week. Her sisters were active in the church, and to avoid suspicion she followed them to church the next Sunday. She remembers he spoke about grace during the service and after, Modele Fatoyinbo asks that she come to help her with her new baby, something she had never done before. It was normal for church members to come to serve at the pastor’s house so her sisters allayed her protests.
Feeling she had no options, she went to her pastor’s house, Fatoyinbo tried to isolate her later that night from his wife and their daughter by insisting she slept in the family’s guest room. She managed to thwart his plans, appealing to the pastor’s wife to let her sleep in their master bedroom. “No one ignores me.” He would tell her this the next morning, smacking her butt. It was an ominous enough statement that Busola became apprehensive and tried to leave for her house once it was past twilight. It was the first of many threats she would get from the flamboyant pastor.
Fatoyinbo would insist on dropping her off at home, even though she protested several times. Instead of dropping her off at the junction as he had promised, he detoured, driving her away from safety and towards a secluded spot. He threatened her the entire drive, making proclamations about how he owned her and how he was angry that he had thwarted her the night before. He opened the car, pulled her out of the passenger seat and raped her a second time in the space of a week. First behind the car, then moving her to the bonnet for ease of access.
She didn’t fight, she had lost all her will to. She’d protected her virginity for so long that having it forcefully taken this way broke her. He guided back into the car when he was done, and told her he loved her, speaking of how he’d told his pastors that men of God raped women, that there was nothing special about what he did. He dropped her off outside her home as though everything was normal.
4. Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo confessing
In Lagos, her sister who she believes has the Sight, told her about a dream she had had, where she’d seen Busola crying, blood on a chair and Fatoyinbo smiling. She asked her pointedly, breaking months of silence and starting a flood of admissions about the rape and everything that had happened. Her sister convinced her to return to Ilorin and together they told her other sisters and her brother, who was studying at the University of Ilorin. Her brother flew into a rage, grabbing a pocket knife and taking her to Fatoyinbo’s house. He was able to intercept them before they reached his house, and together with Wole Soetan, who she suggests is now the pastor of the COZA Portharcourt branch, convince them to return home and that Fatoyinbo would follow.
The pastor and two of his church members would eventually come to pacify her family, blaming the devil and Soetan even promising to leave the church to show how little tolerance he had for promiscuity.
After Soetan would confide in Busola that he couldn’t leave the church because he felt Fatoyinbo was ‘weak’ and needed spiritual guidance and support. He convinced her siblings to keep the rape and assault from her mother. Numb to all emotion, Busola pretended to concede and after two weeks of constant visitation from the pastors and the unspoken implication that Fatoyinbo was an alleged reformed cultist with a lot to lose if news of her rape went public, she returned to the church to protect her family and project normalcy.
5. How Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo continued to target her
Fatoyinbo continued to target Busola in the intervening months, organizing prayer sessions and specialized deliverance sessions with guest pastors to help ‘repair’ her ‘bondage’ and suggesting to her that the violence he had meted towards her was a problem they both had in common and needed communal deliverance, Busola would find out that Fatoyinbo had been telling church members that she wasn’t ready for a relationship when the pastor’s cousin befriended her.
Their time would eventually develop into a relationship and she would confide in him about what had happened to her. With his help, she would leave the church and join another congregation.
charlesemeka85: Bros Musa is just 26 and him going to Saudi Arabia wasn't because he lacked offers from top leagues in Europe but the Saudi offer was too good to turn down. Football na business!
Good point on Musa. And like an old wine, he actually seems to be getting better in his old age. Musa used to be all speed and little brains but now his football IQ has definitely improved tremendously.
But what da heck is he doing in Saudi Arabia? I don't get it!
O pari
TheSuperNerd: 2022 WC is just three years away and I believe Musa would still be around except he loses his mojo. He is younger than Mikel and joined the NT about five years after Mikel joined in 2005.
Players I don't expect to see at 2022 WC in Qatar and Afcon 2021:
- Mikel Obi
- Odion Ighalo
- John Ogu
- Leon Balogun** (Defenders have better longevity than forwards so he MAY still be around for at least Afcon 2021 or maybe not).
Solid analysis, Nerdie. Here are a few things I will need to add:
- Mikel is likely to become a backup now. His best position in this team is the DM or the so called Deep lying playmaker (Pirlo role). Unfortunately, for Mikel, our best player Wilfred Ndidi doesn't seem to play well with Mikel compared to Etebo. Hence, if you want to get the best out of Ndidi, you'd pair him with Etebo.
- We are blessed with 3 solid Center Backs. And I think the 3-5-2 formation would suit our game best when we start playing against the big guys like Senegal, Egypt, etc. Line up: Balogun - Ekong - Omeruo as CBs and use Ola Aina and Moses Simon (or Collins) as the Wing Backs.
- Odion Ighalo. I will only blame him for missing one chance not two. Like I commented during the game, he could've simply squared that ball to Ahmed Musa for a simple tap in but he selfishly decided to go solo. On the second chance, he wasn't expecting that ball … a Guinean player was blocking his view so he couldn't see the ball until late. All in all, he still remains our best striker option until someone (and I am looking at you, Osihmen) steps up to displace him.

TheSuperNerd: Super Eagles Review so far + Bonus Titbit
- Iwobi may have struggled to settle into a good rhythm in the Guinea game but he remains our best bet in the #10 role. And mehn like Tbaba1234 already pointed out... He hit some fine strikes today that brought out two awesome saves from Kone in the Guinea goal. That lays to to rest the saying that "Iwobi cannot shoot." Even Chelsea felt his shooting wrath in the Uefa UEL Final.
- Mikel as DLP/CM remains one of the masterstrokes we haven't executed yet at the Afcon. Perhaps Rohr hasn't seen the need for it yet ..... But I feel that time may yet come. But Mikel as our #10... Please never again especially not in his last tournament for us.
- In Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu we have wingers who give us options tactically and organisationally as both offer so much defensively and offensively too. Chukwueze and Onyekuru are inverted wingers/Wing forwards needed only to stretch defences further and put them on the back foot intensely. Their usage will depend on our tactical set-ups and approaches at any point in time as we progress.
Additionally, Chukwueze's skills, trickery, and Vision also mean he could potentially grow into an alternate role as AM/SS apart from his main role as RW/RWF.
- Ighalo wasted two big chances today... Yes! But he still remains a genuine threat upfront as he keeps defences honest. But Osimhen could yet prove an Upgrade even now if, and only if, he gets his chance against Madagascar and takes it with both hands and feet.
- Onuachu is a fine player but his best will only come when he plays with a player like Kalu on the wings and Aina from the left both whipping in fine crosses at intervals into the box. His monstrous height could still prove a weapon in setpiece situations going forward now that Kalu has marked his return and also with Moses Simon's crossing form, from setpieces.
- Omeruo and Balogun should continue their CB pairing going forward. The oyibo wall was really good but The Black&White (Naija-oyibo) Wall looks even better. Ekong should rightly deputise for them now.
- Awaziem keeps growing into that player that will someday command our Super Eagles defence on his own. Very adaptable player. Very mobile. Very composed for a player so young. Very confident and solid. Can't wait to watch him marshal our U-23 defence at the U-23 Afcon and subsequently at the 2020 Olympics. That plus this Afcon exposure coupled with his continued club career progress will hopefully bring a world class defensive beast out of him to the benefit of our Super Eagles in the long run.
- Ola Aina have shown strong mentality coming back from that WC miss last year. His time at Torino has instilled more confidence in the lad and made hin realise he can be just as good as he has been touted to be potential-wise.
- Ndidi is on his way to being UNDISPUTABLY the best DM in Africa BUT HE NEEDS TO KEEP IMPROVING HIS PASSING GAME, NEEDS TO KEEP UPPING HIS ABILITY TO READ PLAYS AND CONTRIBUTE TO MORE INTRICATE BALL DISTRIBUTION. Nail these aspects down to a fine extent added to the aspects he already does so excellently and he will soon become the most dreaded and most valuable DM on the Planet. He is still U-23 afterall.
- Musa remains our best from the LW. Ighalo just have to be more clinical so as to complement Musa's work down that flank. Musa could easily have had two assists if Ighalo was sharper today.
- Akpeyi is well shielded by the defence and that has added to help keep him settled in and composed. He did have one "Akpeyi" moment again as he did in the first game and I hope he doesn't repeat this as the next "Akpeyi moment" could prove costly.... But I hope it doesn't anyway. Just eradicate the nerves Akpeyi... Be a man!!!
- We have a rich bench. A f**king rich bench.
Except in the GK Dept, we are covered in all areas. Even if we don't use fullbacks, we have Kalu and Simon Moses who can fill in superbly as wingbacks on the right and left respectively in a 3-5-2/3-4-3/3-4-1-2.
In attack, Iggy's covers are Onuachu and a hungry Osimhen.
In midfield, Ogu is yet to see action. Mikel is also backup now depending on the tactical maneuvers.
In defence, Ekong covers for the new wall of Naija-Oyibo. Awaziem also fills in as cover at CB if Aina is moved back to RB if Collins gets back to full fitness and reclaims his LB spot (would be tough as Aina wanna make LB his own at least at this Afcon alone). Reports say Collins have like a week to be back to top gear. It is Shehu who may not play again depending on how far we go in EGYPT.
On the wings, Musa is first choice and in his stead we could have Simon Moses or Henry Onyekuru. On the right, we could have Kalu or Simon or the electrifying and exciting presence of Chukwueze.
Boy!! We do have a rich bench... And a deep pool.
BONUS TITBIT:
Our first goal at this Afcon created by Aina's intelligent backheel pass graced by Ighalo's sumptuous finish BEARS SOME RESEMBLANCE to the Backheel pass of OKOCHA to Ben Iroha at Tunisia 94 vs CIV.
Both incidents took place in North Africa and in 94, we lifted the Afcon title. De ja Vu? I don't know.... Just pointing it out.
