Politics › Niger Deltans Demand Rotimi Amaechi's DNA Test by id911(op):
We demand Ameachi presents himself for a DNA test to ascertain his paternity. We suspect there could have been a mistake somewhere that brought about his birth. Some of his recent actions and inactions indicate he is not a true son of our land.

Some of us don't really care which party one belongs to because most Nigerian politicians are not trustworthy no matter the party they belong. Before the elections, some of us went to Rivers State to check the pulse of the people and it was so clear and obvious that Nyesom Wike will win overwhelmingly because of his grassroot support. Not because they hate Dakuku Peterside- a fine gentleman- but partly because of Ameachi.

Ameachi tried to instigate crisis during the elections for it to be postponed but he failed woefully. After he failed in that direction, he worked underground to have the elections annulled by the Court for a rerun. A rerun will have caused more bloodshed in our land but the Supreme Court saved the imminent bloodshed. Again, Ameachi cancelled our Maritime University project and will channel the money for projects in the north. This Maritime University project will have given our people jobs and also expand Maritime Education and Training for Nigerians.

Some of us danced almost naked in joy when Adams Oshiomhole was pronounced the Governor of Edo State by the Court but though he now talks uncontrollably, we still understand his behaviour, his problem is caused by his new wife, with time, he will change. That of Ameachi is different, he is a prodigal son but this time he won't be lucky like that one in the Holy Bible.

We hereby call on him to subject himself to a DNA test, we will freely donate money for the test. We call on his supporters esp on Nairaland(it is on Nairaland he has many supporters but in Niger Delta he is not recognize), to prevail on him to accept this offer because if he refuses, anytime he is done with the Government and retires, we will have no other option than to banish him to Sokoto, Zamfara, Sambisa or anywhere his brothers are in the north.

That is not close to it. He did far more than that. The comment was Amaechi does not want development in the Niger Delta. What you saw there, is that not development in the Niger Delta.

Bring another Governor in the Niger Delta that did more before you say "Park Well Jor." If you want more of Amaechi's accomplishments, just ask.

Urban development/Renewal

The administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi has strived to return Port Harcourt back to its Garden City Status and has worked towards eradicating slums in the city. The government has in line with this commenced enforcement of urban development laws and regulations, establishing building lines, height, size and mode of fences in specific areas, processing and approval of building plans; regulation and control of outdoor advertising; and beautification of the environment with the development of parks, gardens, fields and lawns.

In fulfillment of this, the government has embarked on:

Demolition of illegal structures, shanties and slums in Port Harcourt.
Demolition of fences and walls higher than 6 metres.
Development of Recreational Parks in various areas of the city like the Port Harcourt Peace Park along the Port Harcourt/Aba Road between Bori Camp and Airforce Base, Elekahia by the Housing Estate and several others..
Beautification of Roads and Flyovers with greenery.
Reclaiming of 7 recreational fields that were unlawfully built on.
Construction of Silverbird Cinemas in partnership with the Silverbird Group at the site of the former Obi Wali Cultural centre.
Demolition of Port Harcourt Waterfronts and Proposed Redevelopment for the Waterfronts into standard residential and industrial districts.

Agriculture

The Agriculture initiative of Governor Amaechi is part of plans to provide employment and empowerment of Rivers people through agriculture. The initiatives amongst others are, the Songhai Farm, Banana plantation, Cassava initiative, Fish Farm in Buguma…

Transport

The ban on commercial motorcycles from Port Harcourt and three other Local government areas in a bid to check accident rate in the State as well as put a stop to the then rampant armed robbery with the use of motorbikes.
The provision of Mass transit buses and taxis in collaboration with Skye bank.
The building of 57 modern service Bus Stops along the major Aba, Ikwerre expressway in Port Harcourt.
Enforcement of the State’s traffic law.
Inauguration of a vibrant Road Traffic Management Agency, TIMA-RIV.

Primary Health Care Centres

160 new Model Health Centres are currently scattered across the State, meeting the Governor’s vision of bringing quality health care closer to the people. Almost 100 of these health centres have been completed, fully equipped and functional, while work is still ongoing at other sites.

Hospitals

4 New Hospitals: The Ultra Modern Rivers State Dental and Maxillofacial Hospital, Aba Road by Garrison Junction, Port Harcourt (Completed);

The 150-bed Kesley Harrison (New Niger) Hospital, Emenike Street, Diobu, Port Harcourt (Completed); General Hospital at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (completed); and

The Justice Karibi Whyte Mega Specialist Hospital (Under construction)

Rivers Songhai Farm
DSC_0755

Songhai is a center for training, agricultural production, research and development of sustainable agricultural practices.

The programme was conceived when Governor Chibuike Amaechi visited the Songhai Centre in Porto Novo and was impressed with the model and decided it would work well in Rivers State.

Work began at the Rivers Songhai farm in 2010, before then a group of 105 young men and women drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state had been sent to Songhai International Centre in Benin Republic for 18-month training in various specialized Agric and Agro based areas as well as develop entrepreneurial culture.

The farm project sits on a 314-hectare land in Bunu-Tai, an agrarian community in Tai Local Government Area of the state. It is about 20 times the size of the Songhai model — an integrated farm which combines livestock, arable farming, fisheries, snail farming and poultry.

Scholarships

The Rivers State Government through its scholarship Board reconstituted by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency RSSDA created by law by the Amaechi administration each gives out yearly overseas and local scholarships to Rivers indigenes to study vital courses. The Scholarships include Doctorate, Post Graduate, Undergraduate, Diploma and Secondary education.

Free Quality Education for All Children
Quality Education

Governor Amaechi on October 1, 2010 announced free education for Primary School pupils which includes tuition, free school Uniforms, free Sandals, free Text books and Exercise books; while secondary schools students gets free boarding and feeding.

For Healthcare, Governor Amaechi has made it possible for all Rivers people to access free healthcare in all of its Primary Health Centres.[/b]

Model Primary schools

At the inception of his administration, Governor Chibuike Amaechi placed a state of emergency on Education and took over the responsibility of Primary schools from the Local Government Councils. The Governor came up with the idea of building new model Primary schools to the standard of the United Nations and obtainable in developed parts of the world. With a target of 700 Model Primary Schools, the Amaechi administration has completed 500 across the 23 Local Government Areas of the State. They are equipped with ICT facility, modern library, science laboratory, football field, basketball pitch, volleyball pitch and Nursery playground.

Why do you support Goodluck jonathan and Godwswill akapbaio despite massive evidence ? please explain nicely,I will not get upset. I just want to understand the psyche of Oron people .
Thank you my brother, why I go vex for u. Quote me in ten years time, the Federal Govt will never be able to upgrade MAN, ORON, to a Uni. It is a very complicated thing. There are a lot of things involved. Obasanjo, Yaradua, Goodluck all tried and failed. pls calculate the number of years involved without success. The same thing happened in PTI, go make your findings.

It is complicated upgrading specialize institution of that nature, it is not your conventional institution. Space may not permit me to mention the reasons. You may need to read all my comments on this topic again.

Pls don't mention Akpabio when u are quoting me. It fit make me vex. I never supported Goodluck bro, never voted for him although he tried economically. I can also never and will never vote for Buhari becos of his hatred towards the south and his lack of intelligence in handling matters of national importance.

Your write up make sense in a way....but as you said the problem of Niger Delta is caused by Niger Deltans.....Edwin clark was aware that we have NMA at ORON still in the zone but he was championing for NMU at WARRI what stop him from telling GEJ to upgrade the existing facility at oron to a degree awarding in maritime.....you are also aware that most institution we have today were originated from some where before it got to the status they are today....like UI they did not build from the scratch they converted from college of Tech.unizik, uniuyo, crutech, uni agric umudike, and quite alot more ....so i dont see anything wrong from upgrading NMA ORON to a degree awarding......stop telling us that oron was meant to be a diploma institution it is that mentality of that kind that makes Nigerian institution suffers set back....most colleges in western world awarded degrees not only to uni ok so Amaechi is right to upgrade oron which have been in existence for decades and NMU warri can as well be used as satelite campus to compliment the petroleum university which is already at effurun the former PTI Warri which was as well upgraded to petroleum university.....i think amaechi is right for this one
Stop lying plsssss! Stop Lying! PTI was never upgraded to Petroleum University. FUPRE is different from PTI. Upgrading a specialised institution isn't easy because it is not your conventional school.

The same way Federal Govt ran into difficulty upgrading PTI is the same way they'll run into in ORON. They tried upgrading PTI for over twenty years but couldn't succeed until they later went ahead to established University of Petroleum Studies called FUPRE. They've been trying to upgrade MAN, ORON, for over ten years now without being successful. There are a lot of things involve in such move.

Anyway I wish us all the best

and I quote again
raise your words not your voice..
it will increase the no of intake when upgraded
I see no proof from you that it won't increase no of intake
Hmmnmnm, my brother u may not understand. Read whatever I wrote about this topic again slowly and digest it.

Let me tell u something, if for example, 10000 prospective students seek admission in MAN, ORON, 9000 will apply to study either Marine Engineering or Nautical Science, and these two depts won't admit up to 200 in any given year whether it is upgraded or not. The rest will go home and wait to reapply another year or go abroad for those that can afford it.

These set of students that applied to study in these two depts will not accept offer in other Depts because they'll hardly get job in Nigeria. Nigerian Maritime Industry isn't develop to absorb much graduates in less say, ship building tech, Maritime law, Maritime insurance, Maritime Surveying, etc. The last three courses are not offer there yet until the school is upgraded but they may not even see much students to seek for admission in those depts for now.

Besides upgrading MAN, ORON, will pose a serious problem which the Federal Govt may eventually withdraw, u won't understand it bro. This upgrading of MAN, ORON, started since Obasanjo's time but till now they've not been able to do it. The same thing happened in PTI for years when the Federal Government was trying to upgrade it but they later became aware it wasn't going to be possible that was why they established another university called FUPRE.

We are not moving forward with this decision bro, we need at least five or even ten Maritime Institutions bro. Go to Nigerian waters, it is Lebanese, Philippinos, Indians, that have taken all our jobs because of this type of decision by AMAECHI because they say we don't have the necessary Maritime training and education.

Anyway, Whatever we Nigerians want is what we get

Upgrading the one at Oron is the best thing to do now we are trying to get out of a financial mess. When the institution at Oron is upgraded, there won't be limited spaces available. It will be completed in less time.
IT IS NOW I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT MOST OF U COMMENT ON NAIRALAND PURELY ON IGNORANCE.

UPGRADING MAN, ORON, WON'T INCREASE ADMISSION QUOTA. IT WILL ONLY INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COURSES OFFERED THERE WHICH THEY CANNOT INTRODUCE DUE TO ITS PRESENT STATUS. IT WILL ALSO ALLOWS THEM AWARD DEGREES. THAT'S ALL.

MARITIME EDUCATION WORLDWIDE IS REGULATED BY IMO AND IS NOT UR CONVENTIONAL EDUCATION. IN FACT THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO ADMIT UPTO 50 CADETS IN EACH OF MARINE ENGINEERING AND NAUTICAL DEPTS. IF IMO BECOMES AWARE OF THIS ADMISSION SURPLUS, THEY MIGHT BE SANCTIONED.

PLS AND PLS, STOP MENTIONING OIL HERE WITH RESPECT TO THE PROJECT. THOSE IN THE INDUSTRY WILL LAUGH AT UR IGNORANCE. FUNDING MARITME EDUCATION IN NIGERIA IS THE DUTY OF NIMASA. CANCELLING NMU IS THE GREATEST DISSERVICE ANYONE CAN DO TO ASPIRING SEAFERERS IN THIS COUNTRY. MAN, ORON, DOES NOT ADMIT UPTO 100 CADETS(STUDENTS) PER DEPT IN EACH YEAR ESP MARINE ENGINEERING AND NAUTICAL SCIENCE DEPTS . BUT MORE THAN 5000 PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS APPLY FOR ADMISSION IN EACH OF THOSE DEPARTMENT YEARLY. THIS NUMBER IS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OF ELECTRICAL, MARITIME BUSINESS STUDIES DEPTS. IF THEY CAN ONLY ADMIT MAXIMUM 100 PER DEPT, WHERE DO U THINK OTHERS WILL GO?

SOME OF US HAD TO GO THRU MUCH PAIN SEEKING MARITIME EDUCATION ELSEWHERE. MY FRIENDS WHOSE PARENTS ARE RICH ARE NOW STUDYING IN GHANA, EGYPT, INDIA, MALASIA, PHILIPPINES, ETC, AND PAY HUGE SCHOOL FEES IN US DOLLARS.
