Politics › Why Is Gen. Murtala Mohammed On Our Naira And Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi Isn't? by id911(op): 3:17pm On Jan 18, 2016 |
Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi was the first Nigerian Military Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. This was made possible because there was some perceived sabotage in some sections of the country which made the first coup d'etat largely unsuccessful. The Military had no choice other than to appoint its highest ranking officer, which was Gen. Ironsi at the time, to lead the government. There's no known record he was involved in the coup; I might be wrong though.
Six months later, Gen. Muhammed was actively involved in the counter bloody coup which brought Gen. Gowon to power. He was also a major protagonist in the coup that brought himself, Gen. M. Muhammed, to power in 1975.
I personally consider Gen. M. Muhammed the best Nigerian Head of State ever because during the short periods he held sway, he introduced a lot of reforms, cleansed the system and set the stage and timeline for a return to democracy in 1979.
Although the two of them were killed in almost similar circumstances, what normally baffles is: why is he then adorning the twenty naira note and Ironsi not on any Nigerian currency? |

This is better than in d past were president defend 1billion naira for Aso rock feeding
We should commend d president for reducing Car in presidency from 3.4billion in d first version to 340million in the new one. That is 90% drop.
I agree he was not well advised on how to go about it, but it was done with d interest of d masses. But we should focus on end point of the action and not on frivolities PDP are feeding d masses with.
We should understand that Buhari was not under any compulsion to reduce some of those extravagance. He could have ignored d criticism of d masses and leave the waste in d budget. But he listen to us and amended it.
Why is it not an issue in the House of Representative? The Budget was not only given to Senate. The budget was presented to Joint National Assembly. Not to senate alone. House of rep has no issue with d amendment. But criminal Saraki in d senate is trying to over blow it to protect himself from code of conduct tribunal because the supreme court decision is close by on the 5th of February. He is wasting his time. If Saraki thinks he can connive with PDP to blackmail the president into killing the anti-corruption drive of the president, he is making a big mistake .
The Budget has not be signed into law. It has not be approve. So it can be changed or ammended. The president saw an error and chose to correct. He may have been advised wrongly on how to do it, but the overall intention is noble. Nigerians should learn to praise noble things rather than destroying it with useless technicalities and partisanship.
PDP should not be taken seriously because they dont care a bit about Nigeria masses. They only care about protecting thier criminal members and looters.
Next time the president must ensure he prove read every document before making it public to avoid this kind of embarrassment in the future. You urgently need brain transplant. What is wrong with Nigerians? Politics › Corruption Has No Party Affiliation Whether PDP Or APC by id911(op): 4:55pm On Jan 13, 2016 |
One of the biggest problems we have in our country today is the hypocritical nature of some of our compatriots on issues of national importance. From my observations, corruption, when it pertains PDP chieftains are normally blown out of proportion by the media and even pronounced them guilty without a court having a say on it yet. But the media will try to suppress it when APC chieftains are involved. This is bad for our country.
Corruption recognizes no party. APC and PDP supporters ply same bad roads, suffer same acute power shortage, poor health care, etc, all caused largely by corruption.
Corruption is everywhere in this country be it in Federal, States or LGAs. Take three States (Lagos, Rivers and Akwa Ibom) based on their higher averagely budgets proposal than others, for example. Based on available data, the cumulative budgets proposed, approved and spent from 2008-2015, (8 years) are : Lagos-#4.1 Trillion, Rivers-#3.4 Trillion and Akwa Ibom-#3.25 Trillion, apart from loan. These may not be too much to be budgeted and spent but they are huge figures.
Lagos did well due to its peculiar nature. The former Lagos State governor is a smart guy, intelligent, focused and visionary though I have some reservations. Akwa Ibom did very well too but most contracts were grossly and wickedly overinflated. Apart from salaries and other things, can you honestly believe what's on ground in Rivers State today justify spending #3.4tn on? Among these 3 States, Rivers has the least infrastructure in the periods under review. If you disagree, you can carry out a personal assessment of these states.
Activities of former Rivers and Akwa Ibom State governors should be investigated as well as those of Abia, Adamawa, Plateau and Kaduna. Anyone found to have corruptly enriched himself should be jailed, properties confiscated and ban from public office for life.
The media and youths should distance themselves from every corrupt element be it in APC, PDP or any other party because these people are murderers and are our greatest enemies. It will ultimately be to our benefit.
God bless us all |

Above is what I saw on her wikipedia page. She was born in London and have only worked in Nigeria for 4 years. So, it's clear she have no knowledge of the Nigerian economic terrain.
While she can make a good minister of finance in England, but she can't here because she have no such training to do so in Nigeria. This's as good as making a British our finance minister.
This is why I try to explain people about education and that the education we acquire in Africa is not real education in the true sense of the word. The education the woman possess is not the education of a Nigerian mindset, but British. She can't be a good finance minister in Nigeria. It can't work!!. To many objective Nigerians, Kemi Adeosun is simply doing a wonderful job!! She knows what she is doing and is not the type to be led by the nose. She is a role model and a good advertisement for the Nigerian womenfolk. We should keep praying for her to surpass the past Finance Ministers, including the world bank mama with the notorious 'indigenous headgear'!!! We are proud of the young Finance Minister's simplicity, audacity and 'can do' spirit, which will surely facilitate her success by God's grace. Shame to detractors and satanic agents seeking to distract the innocent diva heading Finance Ministry. Indeed, God bless Buhari for his choice of the Ogun State indigenes as Nigeria's Finance Minister. Recall Buhari made Onaolapo Soleye, also from Ogun State, his Finance Minister in 1984! Need I say more? Paid PDP agent? For your info I hate that party with passion. I used to pray for them to be kicked out of the central government. But I'm beginning to observe a trend where anyone who holds contrary views about the govt is seen as a PDP agent. That means there's no difference between APC and PDP, in fact, they're becoming worse |

Kikero112: Well....the OP is throwing terms like ''fiscal policy'' around. I wonder how he expects us to stimulate the economy, what with the low price of oil and the poor savings left us by the last administraiton.
The fact is, we are an import dependent economy. And any attempt to throw money at the economy in an effort to stimulate growth would just deplete our foreign reserves further, lead to devaluation, and at the end of the day, runaway inflation.
Which leads me to my grouse with the OP....he offers no alternative solution. Because he knows that the first alternative....devaluation is worse than what we have right now.If we devalue our currency....it would just make imports ore expensive....which is a good thing....but it would make domestically produced goods more expensive....since....you guessed it...our industries rely on imported goods.
Alternative 2 is to just allow the dollars to flow....which would deplete our forex....and cause more inflation.
The cold reality is that what is happening right now is the least bad of the other situations. And additionally, we have to make the hard choices that we should have made ages ago....like since the 1980's. We have to cut subsides, increase taxes, and end corruption. We are not a rich nation, and we never were....because of our resource dependency. And we better wakey wakey and realise that.
Diversification into industries is the answer.Agriculture is just resource dependency by another name...as is mining. But it takes hard work and sacrifices to get there....regardless of whoever is in charge. Yes, i agree with most of your submissions above. we have to diversity now because we can't keep on depending on oil. What of if our oil dries up today or the price in the global market becomes almost insignificant won't the country continue? |
