This is why we read books, have mentors and coaches, learn from others, have on-the-job training, etc. For a guy who has just sold a domain name for the first time won't want to make a mistake of fund cannot be reached because of blah blah blah.

Bit the wahala now is, according to Neilpatel's Ubbersuggest, the site receives 55 visitors per month( a whole number 1!!!)

I think this is a bit poor and my letter may trigger the question " can we see what the traffic stats looks like please"

I don't know why a high ranking site like this will be getting just 55k/per month. But still, I do not know if its previous owners had a lander or it just led to nowhere. I believe if a related site is built on it, it will do more than 55 because google will optimise it more as it has began to satisfy search intent.

It's not about ranking in the first position of page one of SERP. It's about the number of people at any point in time who are interested in the product or service. Now, what is the total number of people who are actively interested in truck service in all the MESA locations? That is where you should focus your interest on.

Secondly, building website for the domain is not the be-all-and-end-all of it. If you know how to optimize the website for search engines that is when it will make economic sense. But is truck service in Mesa having Google ads advertisers which are currently running? How much is the cost per click?

You can use this information to start a blog and make money.

You can post anything but your readers will not really know what you're good at. Here on this thread, you can perceive I'm digital marketing expert and you may want to listen to me. But if I'm Jack of all trades, I doubt if you will take me seriously. So, monetization and ranking on SERP by search engines matter for you to earn money online.

Your free domain name registration is obviously tied to your hosting. Even if you cancel your web hosting, the domain is yours. But be prepared to pay for the domain for about the amount of money to register about 2 domain names from competitive domain registrars.

So, stay clear from hosting with free domain name except you want to start an internet business and not domaining.

Using Geo domain names for affiliate marketing will be hard to monetize except you know a lot about the city and product/service attached to it. Otherwise, you've to hire freelance writer to write for you or create videos. If you want to do it yourself, a lot of time will be spent learning.

So, you can get a domain name for less than $10 per year and get cheap web hosting to start a blog in your area of passion, interest or hobby. Sooner than later, with your digital marketing training and experience, you should be able to drive targeted traffic to your website.

Hmmm! Somebody can tell you what to hold. It's like telepathy. Your instinct has to be in sync with what someone tells you or from what you read. This is what to hold:

-Terms that makes meaning. That is there is remote business idea(s) behind it
-Terms that are trending and you've the foresight that it will not fade any time soon. Holding terms that are like morning dew may come and go without a sale.
-Terms with existing business(es) but not a trademark
-Terms you can develop into a website/blog, make money from it and show potential buyers the money, the business and the profits
-It goes on like that.

Terms here simply refer to search queries, search terms, keywords or keyword phrases that online shoppers and information seekers type into search engines like Google to get what they are looking for. The more popular a term is, the better chances of finding a potential end user. If Nigeria.com is for sale today, millions of people including entrepreneurs of heavy financial muscles all over the world will want to buy it. Why? Because Nigeria is a giant of Africa.

Let's look at an example. "Internet Of Things dot com" held for 5 years and sold for $12,000. If you look at the image below, you'll notice that this search term is popular with meaningful discussion around it. It will foolish of any domainer to lose that domain name and not renew. Even if you don't sell your domain in 3 to 5 years, you're confident that that value appreciates like an old wine. Every year as you renew a domain name, you also review the selling price by at least $500 to create room for negotiation.

Update: seen quite number of quality names in the portfolio, but just how much is sold in a year? That's the question.

I personally had a conversation with known NP member, he said he has over 5,000 domains, all .com, but barely break even each year.

There is a reason why the white folks Always advocate quality over quantity, most of them have gone tru both aspects.

Note: i am not saying this particular company/user is not making profit, but it shouldn't be surprising when we hear they barely break even.

From my years in online marketing, domaining and business education and training, it is VERY VERY difficult to break even in buying and selling domain names at the quantity in his portfolio. There are other factors you may not have considered, viz:

-He may be outsourcing some basic tasks (e.g. finding potential end users) to freelancers or virtual assistants and paying them
-His time invested researching, buying and doing outbound marketing
-Commissions being paid out to marketplaces
-Commissions being paid out to domain brokers
-Cost of tools, software and apps bought to facilitate the daily tasks of domaining
-Etc

I always advocate few quality domain names over quantity. Any portfolio above 2,000 will be over the roof.

It's my strategy. In business, it's profit that matters not activity!

Something just happened this weekend and I have to say it here so others can learn from it and maybe take fast action when necessary. If I had registered the name and acted like a broker and contact them telling them the disadvantages of allowing their competitors grab the name, even the MD's last son would release $2k without blinking an eye.

Whaoh! This is missed opportunity of a life time but more are coming if you believe. A lot of us are risk averse and we don't make enough sacrifice to invoke God's grace in our lives and business. Some years back while still in paid employment, I sent my wife to Success Digest bookstore at Isolo from Ikeja to buy Multiple Streams of Internet Income. My advice: Don't look for any developer. You're a developer yourself with self-hosted WordPress blog. With most Nigerian developers, they have the knife and the yam. They can cut it to any size they like. So, DIY (Do It Yourself) WordPress blog is the best way to start a business with little money online.

Are you sure you didn't use a different email address? Confirm and be sure. You should always keep sign up information in a folder (hard and soft) for future reference so that you're sure what you're doing..

Short story as usual, this particular name was almost sold for $175 early January, but the buyer failed to complete the transaction,instead of paying he tried lowering his amount to $150, I stubbornly disagree hence no deal, 3 weeks ago, a potential buyer emailed me of the asking price, quotes $1500, he was silent for 72 hours, I emailed him back to ask how far, he said the price is much that I should discount, I told him $750 for 12 hours, told me it is still much that what he can authorized from his end is $200, I told him no and he promised to get back after meeting with his people in 11 days time, on the 12th day, someone I guessed was him offer $200 for this offer, I declined that the least is $1000...
After 5 days, I was about messaging him to let's do $300, but sleep no gree me, I woke and I saw him offering to pay $350..sharpaly told him $750 or nothing, he countered and said he can't do more than $500, I changed bin and he paid within an hour.
