I don't think there's market to sell +20bags at a go like in other states. I'd favour Uyo market instead. And the prices are usually poor, too. 3500 at its peak and 2000 at glut.
The light green with white ones it is the post common ones sold in Eket. Though the dark green is gaining ground quick.

You can sell 20+ bags in Uyo. But a lot of individuals and groups are doing cukes, so get prepared to compete! But farming land is scarce here

My verdict,

Padma & Cobra are almost the thing except for price difference . One is expensive & the other cheap but, both delivers almost same result.

My choice? I will go for Cobra, the price difference between them doesn't really give padma that exception performance. It simply boils down to East West & Technisem gaskiya

The Padma are not Roma red, and in commercial quantities, are not graded as highly as the Roma type hybrids, just my observations so far though

That's a new one which I never experienced when I grew it. In my opinion, it certainly has to do with moisture management. What am I saying self, padma was built for the rains.

Even the fruits size we keep talking about ain't that small. Most of the fruits I got on the cobra, padma could rival the rio grande in my pilot project. (I will check my archives to get the pictures) Only the Roedo were outstandingly big.
Jelani too was okay though it was just about 3 plants I grew. Roma VF okay. Lindo was just there , UC 28 was superb likewise platinum.

Although some plants are more prone to cracking than others, but the real issue is irrigation management for the plants. 48hrs constant rainfall to any tomato plant without proper drainage will split any variety. (I stand to be corrected). Mulching is a big deal in growing tomatoes and getting it right saves a lot of stress.

just remembered you have also planted a lot of varieties sir! how red was your Padma compared to the cobra, which hybrid tomato would you recommend based on only yield and redness sir?

This variety are readily available here in Nigeria and can grow and give excellent yields. They start to produce fruit from 4 feet tall even before transplanting to a permanent site.

They are easy to manage like any other fruit tree and can grow in diverse soil types.

Each tree produces around 450 fruits per season.

What a loss! But the lady would have tried it on few fishes first. Those mad sellers deserve long jail terms.

Some people can vouch for the efficacy of that stuff, even big time farmers , I have not used it before so I just listen and learn, there are homemade DIY surfucants available, maybe one day I will try it

There is market in eket boss! you can't meet the demand, how big is the land? Because if it's big enough, you can do staggered planting.I hear the dark green sells well there unlike uyo, is it true? There is a huge market in Uyo too, the prices are still averagely fair up till now

well let me say this again, Padma 108 F1 cracks during the rainy season if planted in an environment with heavy rainfalls similar to Akwa Ibom rains, It happens even if the fruits are not fully ripened and may lead to loss of more than 10% dependent on the intensity of rainfalls as at time of harvest. I saw this in the market today, and even mine pictured below cracked. when doing padma, don't use beds in the rainy season, use rigdes because they drain faster and the cracking cases are not much there. All pictured here have cracked

boss good morning...I recently applied urea to the soil for my pepper plant. Lost most of the plant I applied to. I discovered urea is best applied as foliar or fertigation. Please I need the measurement required and how frequent one should use it

urea on pepper? how old were the pepper plants, and what distance did you put the fertilizer, did you cover the soil after applying the fertilizer? sorry I am asking this questions, but 20 10 10 would have been better if you were targeting foliar growth, but at least with little phosphorus and potassium for balanced growth, you should always bury your fertilizer to avoid rain washing it away or towards the pepper plant. you should also give a distance of at least 10cm from the plants. I use urea once in a while but it only burns when exposed to the plant or when not covered. I don't use urea or granular NPK as foliar so I can't help

Land preparation in anticipation for my tomatoes.

One of the few things I give utmost attention to, is the soil I intend planting on (not to particular about seeds any longer hare ).

What bothers me now is; how rich is my soil in organic matter? Because, soil organic matter increases soil fertility, improves soil structure, retains and stores nutrients and water and gives a favourable media to plants my tomatoes over a long period.

Moreover, mineral fertilizers are only as effective as the soil applied on. So I simply load my soils with more than enough compost manure. Fertilizers does not help in the least way, and over time, the soil becomes bad. For a pro organic farmer like me, organic methods are the best way to improve soils. Compost, animal manures, mulches etc all contribute to the building up of soil organic matter which is what poor soils need most to improve before talking of adding fertilizers.

Next priority is disease management.

staking nets are not effective for tomatoes as they don't have tendrils like cucumber to climb upwards. you either use ropes or staking sticks or poles

you can still plant cassava now, it's not late, just that constant rains will make your land preparation work difficult, don't plant the 6months variety after August as the rains will be winding down by early December if you are in Southern cross River,

@ideepaul has given you helpful replies already so am just gonna answer the money question have spent a little bit above my budget of 200k for both farms.. both farms combined is almost 2 hectares.. bulk of the money spent went into buying of cassava stem and labour that's clearing and making of heaps. In akwa ibom it might be cheaper if the labour fee charged there is lesser and if you have quality stems readily available to you

From your statement here, the local tomato variety is preferred to the hybrid in Uyo. It reminds me about someone i gave the improved moringa leafs i have in my house. He complained that the leaves were not sour like the local one even with obvious improvement in the nutrients of the new one.

Nigerians too like local things. Some people dont eat broilers or foreign turkey or even improved bitterleaf, or use yam pounder because they feel is not as strong as the local ones. lol

there are various hybrids in the market, and they have differing levels of acceptance based on criterion set by seller and in extension the marketers. I can sell off 20bags of avenir singlehandedly, but may struggle to sell 1 bag of local pepper that is not pungent and highly aromatic in Uyo. the Aunty that sells avenir in akpanandem market has a loyal base of customers she struggles to satisfy, she has sold to regular passerby, because the demand is higher, and min quantity is N500 naira, I have not seen her since the lockdown was lifted maybe she doesn't have supply anymore. people have traditional taste and appeal preference, and if you can't meet this, na OYO you dey o.
deep green cukes sell in southwest, bring it to Uyo, and your suffering will know no bounds

wow I just learnt something new... Different strokes for different folks here we don't plant too deep

imagine the fruit to be mound, and the sticks to be the stem, that's what I meant. if you look carefully, you will notice that the planting styles vary slightly

you can say that again... Actually the cassava stems are buried properly.. in planting cassava stem you need take note of how it grows that's the side that faces up and the wind too so grown stems don't get broken by wind or rain..

in our parts, we bury it such that only less than 3 inches is above the ground, and we slant the 2 stems per point facing opposite directions

From the picture below you would observe the lack of weed on the farm that means our rooter premergence chemical is working perfectly and secondly our corn have all germinated going round the farm I can say we had as high as 98% success in germination rate, our cassava stems are picking up

Nothing calms a farmer down than seeing high germination rates in his farm! Why are cassava stem still not buried properly?

Not sure of the variety but it should be Emerald F1 touted to produce 140 tons per hectare. A farm in Cameroon was said to harvest about 4000 baskets from a hectare of emerald f1

Emerald tomato is blood red with nice shape but poor taste, it's presently selling in akwa ibom due to scarcity, they buy from Cameroon just across the border. The local market women and buyers say it's the worst tasting tomatoes you will buy . I don't buy fresh tomatoes normally as I always have excess tomato available from my garden and sell in little quantities

I planted 1789 cucumber seeds on the 8th of june(I could not buy extra seeds again, so still have some uncultivated beds), about 68 did not germinate. Lost another 100+ 10-12 day oldseedlings to bush rat attack, I had to spray a highly stinky mixture to confuse them, I think it's working so far. They are currently 16days old
Spacing 50cm, 2 row per bed of 110cm, pathway 50cm
