Google search for Bella farms offtaking, if the conditions favour you, you may contract them to offtake the urine, live rabbits and poops there in Lagos. Please note that I have not done business them before as I am far away from lagos

So sorry if the "can't" sounds offensive, it wasn't my intention in any way. As for the average yield per plant, I would sincerely be willing to learn how you produce above 5kg per plant average as some plants won't yield, some will not yield above 20 fruits, some will not yield above 50 fruits from my experience, though many others will do very well. Cobra max fruit weight is 90g according the company and in commercial farms, they hardly get up 20% of the tomatoes to that weight, a vast majority are below 70g fruits.
Abeg no tell me make I hand pollinate again o , the last time I tried that stuff flower by flower every single day, my neighbour thought I had mental problems or I was doing something fetish and reported to my dad

One of the difficult aspect of planning and projections is the dearth of reliable data. As simple as your numbers look, the embedded value is profound because it is based on an observable data. It shows that you are an organized agroprenuer

But are your numbers truly correct?

A big basket is about 40kg. Per your analysis, a plant will give about 5kg and therefore 8 plants will fill a basket

Tomatoes can be planted at a spacing of about 30cm by 80 cm so in an acre you have a population of about 16k so you can get approx 2k baskets from an acre

Tomatoes prices fluctuates from as high as 12k per basket to as low as 3k per basket so assuming a worst case scenario of 3k per basket you are looking at a gross revenue of 6m per acre or 1m per plot within a space of 90 days. This looks too good to be true to me

You can't have 85g average with cobra 26 commercially, it will be far below that! Even Padma with bigger fruits can't hit that figure, the heaviest Padma are 86+92g, but vast majority are far below 80g sir. When you take into consideration the losses due to several factors in a commercial tomato farm, then the best you can have is 1.5- 2.5kg in open field cultivation and it's extremely unlikely if you don't follow GAP and the God/luck factor depending on what you believe

Are you in the north or south? And I hope you know what you are gunning for? worst time to cultivate tomatoes(my personal opinion) because all that can go bad will get worse. Argh 2 acres? at the peak of the rainy season, with an inexperienced farmer, I only pray God grants you success, but this is a risky venture sir

I don't cultivate or have have any affiliations with any GMO organisation at all for the records, but let's face reality, do you think the broilers and layers our poultry farmers are cultivating have not had their genes modified, a lot of the medical innovations you enjoy today are dependent on gene modification. Most of this crops and animals that are exceedingly high yielding or with characteristics beyond natural capacity are sometimes gene modified organisms. GMO's are bad, but there are loads of far worse activities and practices our farmers engage on a daily basis just for the sake of profit making.
By the way, I really do hope endeavour of your works out well, as it will empower others to exploit the world of contract farming.

I won't harvest at fully ripe stage to avoid stories that touch o . The cracks are minor and only happen after very heavy rains. Who wan do tomato philanthropy with my big fruits? , I noticed something with people, they will pass-by and pretend not to see those fruits but I give them once, majority will be coming back everyday demanding (not even begging ) for more fruits, especially ladies. 30 hinges for the doors
60 pieces of capper nails for the hinge
1 roll of wire-nesh with large openings(buying full roll is economical)
7-9metre long aluminium pan or any suitable material for urine collector( don't use Nigerian zinc material because the urine will destroy it quickly)
½",1", 1½", 2", 3" nails ( I don't buy nails, so I can't help with how many pounds you will need)
Search Google for favourable designs as it is dependent on space, available materials, and management practices

Cracking issues with padma??
That's a new one which I never experienced when I grew it. In my opinion, it certainly has to do with moisture management. What am I saying self, padma was built for the rains.

Even the fruits size we keep talking about ain't that small. Most of the fruits I got on the cobra, padma could rival the rio grande in my pilot project. (I will check my archives to get the pictures) Only the Roedo were outstandingly big.
Jelani too was okay though it was just about 3 plants I grew. Roma VF okay. Lindo was just there , UC 28 was superb likewise platinum.

Although some plants are more prone to cracking than others, but the real issue is irrigation management for the plants. 48hrs constant rainfall to any tomato plant without proper drainage will split any variety. (I stand to be corrected). Mulching is a big deal in growing tomatoes and getting it right saves a lot of stress.

Nothing beats the Akwa Ibom rain! I am still confused about the minor cracking issue on the bigger fruits mainly
Padma has normal sized tomato fruits but platinum is smaller in size, 70-80g according to east west. Cobra 26 was just too small, hence, cobra34 F1.
Someone recommended the new diva F1, but gaining access to it is challenging from what I have heard. Mulching is important, but I don't use mulch when testing as I want to see how it copes with normal management without drip fertigation and mulching

That's it. That's the only issue with padma. I initially thought it was due to harsh dry season effect.

In my market, size matters! And cultivating platinum only pays when there is scarcity. The Padma fruits were averagely OK. I just hope I can test some more cultivars this year

Boss learn as much as you can from this "little farm"
Next time before you plant the seeds, mix the soil with manure and maybe small fertilizer if possible, and buy standard seeds if possible next time so you can predict their characteristics.

I don't buy normal wood, but what they call "condemn wood". nothing with it, just that it's not acceptable generally, but that's what carpenters buy for projects to save cost. so I won't be in the position to estimate price, and secondly, I build it on my own, so no labour cost. I will try to come up with something concrete and useful before tomorrow morning, please be patient with me

Variety should be the answer. Get quality hybrids.

I'm not in anyways choosy when it comes to cultivars to use, neither do I have preference for any. Other factors influence my judgment when buying seeds aside the need to get first experience from much talked about cultivar.

The season of planting is my major determinant of cultivar to use. It helps me develop the strategy to employed through the growing periods, which includes;

* Cultural practice & Biological methods to help curb expected diseases predisposed to such variety.
* Seed treatment,
* Improved drainage & proper sanitation.

Trust me, even the best of Cobra, Padma, Platinum etc. will succumb to none stop heavy rainfall (No tomato can, I stand to be corrected).

Moreover, during my stay in the North, I never even saw these hybrid varieties being farmed. Wetin concern them with hybrids? Uc 28b and others where used mostly and they are having excellent results walahi.

Nevertheless, if your choice is based on other characteristics of the cultivar in question, such as; taste, size, flavour, etc. then, that's a different one altogether. My preference would tilt towards the Roma cultivar.

UC 28 and all the opvs would be a suicide mission during the rainy seasons of Akwa Ibom State. All tomato cultivars would succumb to the rains of the South South zone, but can be managed with GAP.
Testing suitable hybrids gives one a headstart, and exposes the characteristics of these cultivars, with respect to disease resistance, growth habit. Also, fruiting habits, shape, taste, firmness, market acceptance. We can't invest our hard earned resources just based on hearsay by seed companies and co-farmers, I need to test that it favours my environmental growing conditions.
About 2 months ago, I had the cucumber cultivars I was interested in cultivating, only for me to realise that Uyo seed sellers only had Saira and Nandini by east west(not very popular cultivars, except within Uyo), and one, I had no alternative due to the lockdown and scarcity of seeds nationwide.
I intend to avoid such scenarios next time, by testing cultivars locally available, and comparing them with other options I can lay my hands on.
2 out of the 3 cultivars I am interested in are difficult to access
platinum F1 - readily available and in small quantities
cobra34 F1 - Don't even know who is selling and most likely still available in only 50g cans
Gamhar F1 - Expensive and not economical to waybill less than a thousand seeds( I really need to test this seed)

Not too bad, not all markets accept it. Smaller sizes, Our local market here accept it well due to reason best know to them.

looks similar to the one I accidentally cultivated, our people call it benue tomato, it's only accepted during the peak of scarcity, it's sweet, high yielding but oblong, small and not firm

I really hope and pray it works out well @ dubem because I am so interested in next year's scorpion® cultivation

Not all fruits get cracked, just less than 10%, u may not experience it as its not yet dry season.
Not really planted much variety, some Cotonou variety n padma.

How was the Cotonou yield and fruiting characteristics

Your cracking observation wt padma is right. I experienced it too. It was around december, probably due to hot weather. Aside that, its a fantastic variety.

I have started harvesting but only at the greenish red stage, maybe I will need to keep it to the bright red stage to observe this. Oga oluchidelly have you started selling the dwarf Okro seeds, and could you suggest other tomato cultivars you have laid your hands on pls

Padma is good but cracking rate is the issue...anyday anytime platinum is the best,even Dem my boss planting at least 20k stand every month is planting only plantinum.

I will definitely test this platinum, but my Padma is not cracking at all, and the fruits are very heavy if well taken care of. I just want to test 2-3 other cultivars to gain a better understanding of their individual characteristics

Jidestroud and farmerakinloye could you pls mention 2-3 cultivars you have cultivated with incredible features and results, I really want to trial 3 exciting cultivars around August. I am presently trialing Padma and it's exciting, I tried cobra before then and Padma beats it hands down so far

I saw that thing but did not know it's name. But why didn't you employ the services of a tractor? I think it would have been cheaper. There was a farmer paid me to join a team of cassava planters while I was on school break, the spacing was nothing like I have ever seen before. it was so compact we had to call his attention to the spacing instructed by the supervisors, he told us that it's the standard spacing for the cultivar he had, we were never told the cultivar as they were so secretive about everything, including the names of the fertilizer used, they went as far as emptying bags of the unknown fertilizer into rice bags so we won't know the type of fertilizer. Maybe someone experienced in this compact spacing using tractor rigde could help explain the benefits and dangers here
