I'd like to credit this progress in my quest of growing cucumbers to Mr. Okoroemeka although I stumbled across this thread very late after making series of mistakes. I read the thread from the beginning to this point and the information dropped has been very helpful.
Have been doing everything possible to rewrite the wrong and its been going smoothly so far.
Cukes are 9days today, it's my first time trying this and it's been fun(especially watering 2plots with hand)

Why not try hybrid varieties from Zwaan or Sakata or East West? These companies seem to perform well in other crops like pepper and watermelon. You need to see their pepper farm performance.

Cucumber seeds are scarce and expensive seriously. In Uyo, you can only get saira from east West and Nandini cuke seeds no matter how hard you try. The 5g pack are sold @ 3,500 each....most people can't waybill due to the challenges revolving around the interstate lockdown. I called Thai agro and they said seeds are not available for the time being...and I hope you know some zones have their preferred cucumber type if you don't want to face serious marketing challenges

this is an interesting question,we discovered a more effective way of stopping DM by default,due to the fact that we are planting young crops near old crops that is a reservoir of disease and fungal spores that are just spread by wind,so we used a combination of 100 grams zforce and 30 grams saaf fungicides per knapsack and we were able to clear and cure all foliar diseases that came up with strict 7 days application interval,I think such solution will save non hybrid varieties from disease pressure, but for us we are planning to throw in red force or ridomil copper in the mix also,this coming rainy season on a marketer or market more farm will not be a funny challenge,it will be daunting task for a farmer that I am not eager to tackle,but there's few options and the ball must be kept rolling.

SAAF is 12% carbendazim, 60% mancozeb and Zforce is 80% mancozeb. I hope the downy in your farm won't build resistance to the mancozeb. I am planning to use cabrio with saaf

I cannot say with authority the features of these two variety,we planted market more once but the farm was destroyed by wrong insecticide application, but from the results I saw before the catastrophe market more is a heavy yielder of medium size cukes of deep greenish colour,but it takes 50+ days to mature,we have not planted marketer before but a friend has,it has a slightly more bigger fruits than market more that has an overall higher yield.

How about disease resistance of the marketer?

i have a customer that is ready to pay #15-20k for 50gram seed that was #8k last 2 weeks,even seeds like murano,darina,etc is no longer avalible now,even I gobbled up 10 tins of marketer variety I saw at agritopic office Enugu,we don't have the luxury of choice,work must go on

You can plant in June, just endeavor to make ridge or anything raised soil. If you plant on flat surface,they may be stunted by heavy rainfall.

For yield, answers are already on this page. I cannot relate well wt basket cos of the different sizes that are available in the markets around me. I use rice bag, cos my market is very close.
With interstate lockdown, sending stuff wl be difficult. Before lockdown, we also used post office, they charge N1k upward depending on the weight.

I have seen the response, does the interstate lockdown affect movement of goods?... I will get back to you when I measure the land this weekend

Btw how are your Okro plants doing? I may do a 1½ plot Okro farm in the next few weeks if all goes to plan...this covid break is really serving me well

Oga o calm down! There is profit in waterleaf farming, but it's more difficult to manage than almost any other vegetable you may think of. Take this from someone who has singlehandedly planted and managed ½ plot waterleaf farm for about 3 years+( I don't know any state that farms waterleaf more than akwa ibom)....you should have been done with planting/replanting of your waterleaf by now, because the incoming rains will kill them bastardly btw july- November. There is a reason waterleaf is more expensive during the peak of the rainy seasons than during the driest of the driest harmattan period. If you plan to solely depend on labourers, then be prepared for losses as a newbie...better ask those experienced waterleaf farmers to tell you the honest truth about the business before you regret! I can BOLDLY tell you it's more difficult than you think, call me a pessimist if you wish to

Pls how is the shape and market acceptance of this kirokou F1 okro plant, and what makes them different from the local short okro variety and how much is the seed sold for? Sorry to bug you with all this questions, but how is the august-november sales like generally

Tomato, pepper, cucumber and the likes are profitable but could also send you into despair! as a newbie, I would advice you attach yourself to a local farmer around you or you do a little garden to learn the basics. there is a lot to learn Boss and it may take years to master the art and science of cultivating a particular vegetable , and no online tutorial can prepare you for the southern Nigerian farming experience!

What is strange? This armyworm infestation has been in akwaibom for years...go to any agrochemicals shop and get an insecticide

u uploaded only the aerial view! would you mind mentioning the road or locality coz someone may need to study something as basic as a contour map, and or geological profile of the construction area to get a better understanding( even though it would be limited as decision are made by team with huge access to data)

new student here! what an interesting thread this is going to be! have u observed that mushrooms of diff nature like to grow on rabbit droppings(don't knw if they are edible though), I would like to knw if d droppings would be a good growing medium

Sometimes, the images on those packs could be misleading. For instance, the size of the padma f1 that I planted was extremely bigger than what is drawn on the pack.

i hope the padma did very well 4 u sir!did you get the padma in seed count(100) seeds or in grams? cos I can't find it in grams arnd here and how much was it Sir?

You guys are the ones who scared me away from buying avenir, I no fit gamble with my money, but the etna f1 germination rate was superb, infact If not for rats I would say I had over 98% germination rate.. so far I have no problem with efia germination rate either.. but comparing it to etna f1, I'll say etna f1 is better

well I have met a lot of agro input sellers, they were majnly of d opinion dt weather nd experience of d farmer affects germination rate of peppers a lot, they suggested mini nethouse 4 d seedlings, need 4 good growth media nd moisture control to avoid damping off

1680 stands on a 50*100ft plot of land? z ds feasible! if u may recall, some weeks ago when I brought up d Rz seeds issue here, someone said he had abt 30% germination rate, dz z one f d reasons I m slowing down a bit. I even met a east west agent during an agri-expo in uyo who said they r abt 2 release a new habanero f1 b4 d month runs out...I am jst bidding my time
