While not excusing the govt of her responsibility, individuals, civil society groups, private sectors should seize the initiative to transform our for good, its possible if we believe so.

Candy, I forgot to ask you; whats going on over there in your base, hope you are still in AUS. How is life over there; politics, leadership, education etc.

I believe you will agree with me that all that we need to focus on now is majorly attitudinal change in all the fabrics of our society. ATTITUDE determines your ALTITUDE as the saying goes, when we are properly groomed in the handling of what goes on in the inside of us, then all that happens outside will be a small thing to handle.

There is a palpable fear in the life of Nigerians, and that accounts for most of our actions; you ask me; fear of what?, Fear of the UNKNOWN, what will happen tomorrow, let grab all I can grab today, for me, oh NO, but also for my wife, children, grandchildren, my late wife too, and all those funny way of seeing life, forgetting that the LIFE of a man does not consist in the abundance of what he possesses. Femi Pedro is Lagosians' best set. Apart from the thuggery required to rule a place like Lagos, all that is required for a definite change can only be found in PEDRO among all the packs of pretenders. Being the best does not translate to winning anyway, but me think that all serious minded people like those on this forum should begin to strategise on how PEDRO can take over at ALAUSA come may 2007. Every smart mind should know that the reason why Bobo TINUBU wants somebody planted in the office is just to avoid KIRIKIRI in june, I know he wont wait to be taken to KIRIKIRI. If you ask me, TINUBU will be in USA immediately after the polls in APRIL, at least on that note he is a smart guy. Make  u na leave the matter; PEDRO NA IM BE GUV. JARE. The project NIGERIA might have been a DREAM in somebody's mind before the 1914 amalgamation adventure, but it can be a reality. The issue to clarify is what is the DREAM itself; now that may be difficult to figure out as the personae to ask are no longer here with us, but that in itself shouldn't stop our generation from creating the nation of our own dream. This article stems from many outburst of anger and frustrations that one comes across daily on the pages of our national dailies, talk show on TV, RADIO, and even one-on-one encounters. It is as if this thing called NIGERIA should just vamouse into the thin air, or God in HIS infinite mercies should just scrap the whole thing like one of these govt parastals. It can WORK if we understand how, one of the terrible things that bedevil our nation is the uninformed adventure at reading SCIENCE based subjects in our institutions at the expense of the Art subjects. History is one such subjects that has experienced great fatality in the last one or two decades in the mad rush for SCIENTIFIC advancement in our nation. But the consequence of this is the repetition of HISTORY of events that has taken place in other nations from which we would have learnt some good lessons. Nations like SINGAPORE, MALAYSIA, SOUTH-KOREA, BRAZIL, CHINA etc. have shown that nations can built with VISIONARY men and women, who has imbibed the principles of LEADERSHIP,  which means the ability to INFLUENCE positively, by rising up to the occasion where there is a need among the populace, deploying their God-given talents with assistance of the same people that they have been able to rally-round the VISION that they believed will be to the advancement of the same society. Troubles bedeviling us are so enormous that we find it so discouraging to even give a new drive a trial. In the last couple of years, there has been so much of acrimonies, that so many hands are up on the nation, but there is a way out. There is  a need for a paradigm shift in our mind-set, we need start learning that Leadership is about service, no more no less. When we begin with these, things will begin ti look up for us all. Its a long way to go, but the chinese knows it and its showing in their nation that a journey of a thousand miles begin with a step.

The above topic was quite interesting, with as diverse a response as the writers, its expected. How I wish a comment to each of the contributors can be done, but all the same quite educative. Generally speaking our nation should achieve more than what we are experiencing now, but you can't beat the maxim that says "FOUNDATION MATTERS".

No matter the edifice you intend putting up, if you miss it at the foundation level, you are in trouble; rectifying it is not impossible, but its a lot of hard work that you may even be tempted to pull down the whole structure and start all over again.

Now you may pull down the present structure, but still retain the concept, but now ensure that the FOUNDATION STRUCTURE is properly done, its only then and then your peace and joy of building is guarranteed. 1914 was a long way back, but it never matters for how long you've been travelling on a wrong road, you will never get to the desired destination.

The VISIONEERS( British) of the amalgamation was never altruistic from the very beginning, and there is no need now to start crying over the spilled milk, however we had an ample opportunity in 1960 to lay a new FOUNDATION but we  blew it still, because the then architects of our nationhood were not SECURED enough in their LEADERSHIP competence, and all they were after was; what will acrue to me, my people(ethnic clans) that the new BABY (our Nation) does not matter to them; it was a time-bomb going somewhere to happen. Fortunately it hasn't exploded, we still have a chance, but it has to be on a new foundation. Some of the comments given by members of the forum are familiar in our national daily discuss, but they are too simplistic, not SIMPLE but simplistic. They will never get us out of the woods.

Everything rises and falls on LEADERSHIP, goes the saying. But the Leadership that we are talking about here is not just about those occupying one position or the other, majority of those sitting in those offices; either private or public are NOT prepared for those positions, and what you don't have you cannot give, the lawyers would say. When the Leadership is right EVERY OTHER THING will be right, our best bet is to go back to the basics of Leadership training right from primary school level till we are able to create a paradigm shift in our mentality as a people, this is a process and not an event as we will always desire in environments like ours, it is like this CHANGE should happen over night; it never does, its always over TIME. But we have to start, and this task is too important to be left in the hand of the govt.

As a matter of fact, the way it has always worked is that the INFORMED about what we are talking about begings with private initiative at every fora available to teach and MODEL this SERVANT-LEADERSHIP kind of mind-set, that will make us to appreciate the importance and the truth that the only way out of our LOGJAM is to unlearn certain errors like SELF-CENTREDNESS, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, and begin to imbibe GOOD NEIGHBOURLINESS, BEING YOUR BROTHER'S KEEPER etc. Every other principles of nationhood and leadership can then follow this basic ones. We will surely talk more on this in this forum.
