I don't really know the reason for the commendation. The USA support democracy and it's evidence  in their actions and words. They never intervened for Mubarak of Egypt who is one of their strongest ally; were out spoken against the Chinese Government, that owns large part of US credit, even when Hilary came to Nigeria she expressed the truth in the midst of our lunatic senators. IBB is a lot better than Obasanjo. Obasanjo failed in many respects so also did IBB. But comparing the two, IBB is a star. Yes the media have problems with him for their suspicion that he may have killed one or a number of their comrades and at such have continued their personal vendetta against him. But, those like me who have tried to objectively judge IBB's administration, may uncover something differently.

We talk about what happened to the oil wind fall. But what about what happened during privatisation? Or what happened to the NIPP projects? Why are our kids failing WAEC every year? Why is Boko Haram bombing the hell out of us? At least these have more impact on our lives today. Like I have said somewhere in this forum before, we concentrate so much in the injustices of the past that we overlook the injustices of today.

The question is, all the things we accuse IBB of doing over 17 years ago, are they still not happening today? Is oil money still not being looted? Are journalists still not being killed? Are politicians still not assassinating perceived opponents? So, while we dwell on history (which we cannot change), we are overlooking the present (which we can change). History is there for us to learn from it, not dwell on it.

What did she do!!??  The question in of itself eschews any point of trying to explain economics to you. But for the benefit of doubt you may have asked an innocent question, so here is a simple to understand lone example of her many accomplishments.

1. She was key in the restructuring of our national debt (i.e Reduction of Principal size,and more importantly significant reduction of longterm interest payments)

In lay terms it means due to her ingenuity the nation was finally able to retain sizeable chunks of its revenue creation for reinvestment as opposed to using it to service debt.
