@ifegy thanks. I just realized my NECO certificate is missing, what can I do since a senior certificate must be presented and would they even accept NECO?
The best thing to do is to contact the school and ask what they will accept. Most schools have an international admissions office or staff who focus on international admissions in their admissions office, and they will tell you what kind of qualifications they require from applicants. They are familiar with educational systems around the world and they have their criteria as to what is acceptable.
Please I intend going to Canada as a visitor this summer please is it possible to apply for a school while in Canada as a visitor and change my visa type there
Please refer to the official Canadian government immigration site. The quotes below are from the link:

Working or studying in Canada
Most visitors to Canada are not allowed to work or study in Canada without permission.

You must apply for a work permit or a study permit before coming to Canada. If you are visiting Canada and you want to work or study, you must leave Canada and apply from your home country.

bashtec9: Please what is the advantage of Cooperative education and Internship,Does it add to permanent residence advantage
Well, it may add to 'employability' post-graduation, as it will provide you with Canadian experience that could make employers view you more favorably than if you didn't have any experience working in Canada. You could also end up getting a job at the same employer after school, because they know you and like you.
You need a certain amount of work experience to qualify for permanent residency but note that it doesn't necessarily have to be experience that you gained in Canada. People immigrate to Canada from around the world based on the experience they gained in their home country.
First of all *I'll bow my head down low* for the members of this room. U guys are indeed very helpful.
I have one question. After getting a PG certificate from a Canadian College what next? Can one further their education say to Msc? And hw easy is the transition?
I studied Elect Elect with a 2.2. I plan on doing a PG at Humber but my main goal is to get an Msc at the end the day.
I await response (s) thanks.
The best approach is to check with the school you want to do the Masters at, as to what their entry requirements are. If you are qualified, the transition is pretty straightforward- just apply to the school, obtain admission and adjust your study permit while you are here to reflect your new program.

If they have a January start date, they should be able to offer you admission for that time. Check their website or ask the admissions office about that.

There is the possibility of immigrating as a skilled worker. You can refer to the Canadian government immigration website, www.cic.gc.ca, for more information on that.

EMEKS86: Pls, do you know whether Memorial University of Newfoundland offers admission unconditionally? I really need to apply to the school, but no information on prior payment of Tuition fees before admission is stressed on their website. You know if they demand for tuition payment before issuing admission letter?
You typically have a to pay an application fee when you apply to schools, but you don't have to pay your tuition BEFORE they admit you. You pay your school fees after you become a student.

VCTROKOYE: hi house. Please I have a document which I want to know if it is necessary for me to submit for study permit tomorrow. My brother who traveled to USA through visa lottery filed an US immigration petition for relative for me which has been approved. Do you think submitting the document for the visa approval will help me get the study permit?
Probably not. It's for a different country entirely and has nothing to do with Canada.
Plus, some questions might arise: If you are already approved for another country, why are you applying for Canada?
If you are thinking of immigrating to another country, might that indicate that you are also thinking about immigrating to Canada?

Ctemi: As a female going 2 canada 2 study,do d schools in canada allow pregnant ladies cos ve already apply 2 a school which am 2 resume by september
Well, there is nothing to prevent anyone from being admitted to schools in Canada, as long as you are qualified. You might want to think through your decision carefully, however.
You say you have applied. Have you been admitted? Have you thought about how you will cope with a child (on your own, maybe), in a foreign country, while trying to maintain your student status? If you have been admitted, have you thought about deferring your admission? There's a lot to think about. Being a foreign student can be challenging; being a new mother can also be difficult. Putting the two together...

Hi Kaycee, no probs; I do whatever I can by God's grace. Switching programs after you arrive shouldn't be a problem in most cases. Just follow the application procedures and deadlines for the program you want, and if you're qualified, you'll get in. If you then need to adjust your study permit, just ask your school's office for international students for pointers and they will direct you/ As long as you are studying what you want and on track to achieving your goals. I honestly can't think of any negative effects of switching. Hope this helps.

Nkpor and Awka (42.2km)- again, not sure if this is what you want.

fendorf: My wife is a nurse and we want to apply under the skilled labour visa program.please how can she get a job while still in nigeria cos I read frm the site that it makes the process easier.thanks
To be honest, it won't be easy to apply from outside the country. Bear in mind that she will be competing against people who are here, and have the same skills, and went to schools that are familiar to the recruiters, and don't have to be sponsored by the employer.
Having said that, you could do some searching on the internet as to whether there are health industry focused recruiters who look for health professionals based outside Canada and help them get recruited. You just have to remember there's quite a few people who look to take advantage of job seekers that way (eg asking you to pay them money in order to get hired).
Another thing to consider is that your wife could look into what she will need to do (eg take certain professional exams, etc) in order to be qualified to work in Canada as a foreign graduate. You can look into the information on foreign credentials evaluation on the government of Canada immigration website:
http://www.credentials.gc.ca/

shiborobo: Woww there's nothing to ask again you have said it all...one more question can I have another means to work in canada without my student visa?
You will need to have work authorization of some sort to be able to work in Canada.

If you're thinking of working without authorization, please think again. You could lose your student status and be deported, not to talk of getting ripped off by people who take advantage of you, because they can.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by ifegy: 3:23am On Feb 20, 2013
shiborobo: @ifegy.....a friend told me he's brother travel to canada on a student visa and he applied for a srudent loan off campus in one of there banks there and a loan of 5kcad was given to him not in cash but with credit card and he said he can get more up to 20k......how about that?
Well, I can't speak for him unless I know the exact details of his experience. If there was a credit card involved, then what I can say is that banks do offer students, including international students, credit cards. A credit card will typically have a dollar limit up to which you can borrow, although I have to say that a 5K limit for a credit card for an international student with no credit history in Canada sounds very high. As well, increasing the credit limit on a credit card typically requires that you convince the credit card company you have good reason, such as increased income, for requesting that increase. However, assuming the figures quoted are correct, bear in mind that credit card debt is VERY high interest (typically 20% or higher), and unless you pay off the entire balance on the card every month, you will end up owing some serious money. And if you don't make regular payments, or fail to make payments, your credit history and rating will be negatively impacted. This could impact job applications, future loan applications (eg a mortgage, car loan), etc.
All in all, credit card debt is not recommended.

shiborobo: @ifegy I still dey wait for your response on how I can get a student loan in canada?do you have any ideal on student loan in campus or off campus in any of the banks in canada?
You can't get a student loan unless you are either a permanent resident or a citizen, unfortunately.

If you go to a publicly funded college or university, you can work after 6 months, but you are very, very unlikely to be able to earn enough to cover your school fees by working as a student.

ighoosagie: I need help pals, i am a permanent resident of d united state, I know travelling 2 Canada with my green card will b pretty easy frm USA , but I don't know how possible it will b traveling frm Nigeria 2 canada with my green card? If yes how?
From the Canadian government official immigration website:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp#exemptions

•United States citizens and permanent residents: You do not need a visa to visit or transit in Canada if you are a United States citizen or a person lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who is in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence.

Also note the following advice from the Canadian Border Services Agency for US citizens and permanent residents:
http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/travel-voyage/ifvc-rpvc-eng.html#a1

Identification for U. S. citizens and permanent residents
If you are a U.S. citizen, ensure you carry proof of citizenship such as a passport, birth certificate, a certificate of citizenship or naturalization, a U.S. Permanent Resident Card, or a Certificate of Indian Status along with photo identification.

For all modes of entry, we recommend you carry a valid passport for all travel abroad, including visits to Canada from the United States. A passport may be required by your airline or alternative transportation authority, as it is the only universally-accepted identification document.

Citizens and permanent residents of the United States who are members of the NEXUS or FAST programs may present their membership cards to the CBSA as proof of identity and as documents that denote citizenship, when arriving by land or marine modes only.

All visitors arriving from or transiting through the United States are encouraged to visit www.cbp.gov for information concerning the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, and the requirements to enter or return to the United States.

olalekan46: Thank u so much & this is d basic Truth: am going for Masters program and am 31years. These are my mistake & Regret: I applied in 2007 as an undergraduate which I lied about My Age & not to contradict myself, I changed My age also on My WAEC result & d year I wrote d exams.
When Canadian Embassy verify My WAEC result, it was Frudulent becos of d changes in d year I wrote d exams & My Age. I stand 2 regret My action but I move forward & graduated from OAU.
Now I want to re-apply for a Masters programm & this is my concern- Telling Canadian embassy that I had applied b4 wit this reasons why I was denied; Is My formal act (2007) Pardonable ? Considering d fact that I want to apply now wit ALL neccesary document which are very authentic & subject to Verification.
Wot do u think is likely to be there decesion ??
Well, the best course of action is of course to be completely honest and present only genuine. verified documents. If you can explain why you did what you did in the past, that might help. But you'd be basically counting on the visa officer's discretion, and I really don't know how they would react. Bear in mind you still have to meet the hurdle of proving you have sufficient ties to your home country to return, and your prior actions may make it seem like you were really desperate to leave. In other words, you really need a very solid application. Here is information from the Canadian Government's immigration site on document fraud:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/protection/fraud/document.asp

Document Fraud (Misrepresentation)
It is a serious crime to misrepresent yourself by making false statements, or submitting false information or false documents when dealing with CIC.

Document fraud includes both false and altered documents, such as:

•passports and travel documents
•visas
•diplomas, degrees and apprenticeship or trade papers
•birth, marriage, final divorce, annulment, separation or death certificates
•police certificates
Lying on an application or in an interview with a CIC officer is also fraud and a crime.

The Government of Canada has officers in Canada and overseas who are highly trained to detect fraud.

If you submit false documents or information, your application will be refused. You will also face serious consequences. Depending on the situation, these may include:

•no entry into Canada for at least two years
•a permanent record of fraud in CIC’s database
•having your permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship revoked
•being charged with a crime or
•removal from Canada
Please Guys, I will need Flight ticket to Abuja for 2 adults, how much do you think that can cost? And I will aslo need cheap Hotel around WUSE, please need dis. Asap
For flight tickets, you can either check online, e.g., google arikair or aerocontractors (costs less than arik). Cost will depend on where you're coming from, when and how you buy the ticket (online less costly), and if it's a round trip or one way. Eg, last month, you might have been looking at close to 50K for a round trip Lagos to Abuja purchased sameday . You can probably also go to the airport and purchase at an airline counter, either before or the day of the flight.

No idea about hotels, though. You can try google for that as well.
