There is no Canada visa lottery. If you really do want to immigrate to Canada, go to the Canadian government's official immigration site, where everything is clearly laid out. http://www.cic.gc.ca/. To be able to work in Canada you will need to be legally entitled, either as a citizen, an immigrant, or with a work permit. |
Harmony222: This is very true..................but my research is still on to know the exaact thingy...... my sisters friend called ogorchukwu got the opportunity to travel to canada with her family the year 2007, now they are all citizens of CA....... buh the thing is that its not lottery kind of buh something like it as she refuses to reveal the secret....... nobody wan cast am.It is quite simply not true. If you really do want to immigrate to Canada, go to the Canadian government's official immigration site, where everything is clearly laid out. http://www.cic.gc.ca/. Do the research you mentioned there, if you so wish, and confirm for yourself that that 'opportunity' is non existent. |
Is this a long term posting? If so, your company should be able to sort you out with a car and driver, in most cases, or at least give you the advice you need for transit. If this is just a business trip, you're probably better off communicating with the parties you're going to be dealing with in Lagos and letting them arrange airport pick up and daily commutes to and from the work place for you. That'll probably work out better for you than trying to navigate the transit system on your own. |
At the Lagos airport you'll need to go the counter for your outbound flight, get checked by customs/immigration, pass through security screening, and then go to the gate for your flight. Your luggage should be checked all the way through to JFK (ie, you shouldn't have to pick it up at your layover point and recheck it); you can clarify this at MMIA. There will be lots of signs in the airports that you can follow to identify what gate to go to for your flight, where to pick up your luggage, where to go to pass through immigration, etc. Plus, most of the people that you are flying with will be heading in the same general direction, so you can just go with the flow. There are also usually information spots in airports where you can ask questions if you don't know where to go. Or you can just stop someone in a uniform and ask. You'll need valid travel documents (passport, with visa if needed). You'll also be given US immigration cards to fill out on board the flight, before you get to JFK, with your personal info, where you're going, etc. You'll have to present these to immigration when you arrive. All in all, it does work out to be pretty straightforward, as long as you're a legit traveller! All the best! |
Just a few points re Nuendo's last post- was a bit concerned about the reference to high medical costs. I just want to point out that as a foreign student you are still entitled to health insurance to cover medical and dental expenses, through your school. If you're not aware, please contact your school's international students' office, and make sure you get all the benefits you're entitled to. And for the reference to religious practice, yeah, Canadians are nowhere near as 'expressive' as people back home about religion but there are tons of vibrant faith communities, including those specifically targetted at young adults (college/university), and Nigerian churches as well, if that's what you want. Look around, ask and you'll find something for sure. Oh, and if you do plan to do any kind of public speaking with a microphone in the city, you will need a permit, whether or not it's religious. |
Gymme: @GboyegaD and Kjbobo, I noticed both of u do connect to the internet while travelling out of †нє country (Nigeria), pls how do u browse wen u got stop-overs. Abi Naija mobile networks dey worldwide ni? Anybody sabi too? Nobody be island of knowledge o.Also, a lot of airports have wifi, either free or at a cost. |
agbegbe: Hi friends, please how much will it cost me to travel to united arab emirate?Flight ticket? Flight and accommodation? Flight, accommodation and tourist activities? You need to be more specific. |
Maybe both sit down and make a monthly budget, as well as short and long term financial goals- kid's education, etc. That way you can put aside appropriate amounts of money for all the things that are important to you both, including gifting. Note that the gifting may also serve as a way of giving her a sense of control and adequacy in an area (ie finances) where she may feel weak due to not working. So it may be as much about making her feel better about herself as it is about making others feel good. It may also be about maintaining a certain image. Whatever the roots, you want to be sensitive in how you handle it so that it doesn't seem like you're trying to railroad her just because you're the only one earning right now. If you can both get on the same page financially, however, that would really help with improved financial management. |
Tanks Boss! Pls do u hv an idea of the kind of documents that i will be required to present @dt point? Will i be ask any question? Please nid sombody to answer mi oo
Well, it's typically straightforward- purpose for coming to Canada, where you're headed, that sort of thing. I recall coming in from Europe the High Commission gave you some sort of letter/document which you presented to immigration on arrival and then got the actual study permit; it might be the same for your case. Just answer simply and truthfully and you should be good to go. |
Almost the same route with the one I booked. From lagos to paris, paris to montreal, finally montreal to St john's airport. Please ma ogas @ wad point will my study permit be issued? Cos at montreal will be transfered to anoda airline. Nid ur urgent respoonse
At the first point you come face to face with Canadian immigration; in your case, Montreal. |
Have you considered Canada? International students there have a better defined path to post-grad work and immigration than in places like the US or the UK, for instance. Plus fees are less than in either of those two other places. Might be worth a think. There is a thread on nairaland focused on those wanting to study in Canada: https://www.nairaland.com/1229480/travelling-canada-part-4/318 |
@Trickoftech, you might want to compare bank charges to money transfer charges before doing the transfer, if you're looking for cost effectiveness, as sometimes it is more expensive to send via the bank. Cheers and all the best. |
OMOBOLA k: Hi ifegy, kaycee and all pls am heading. To vancouvver island university will be arriving nanaimo on the 27th of aug ,pls will like to connect with my peeps already in VIUHI, you can try posting in this thread which is for students heading to Canada: https://www.nairaland.com/1229480/travelling-canada-part-4/265 You can also try connecting with the international students' office when you get there (or via email), asking about getting connected to other international students. As well, there might be an African/Nigerian students' association on campus. You can ask the international students' office or student affairs office about this, or check the listing of associations on the school's website. Or there might be a Nigerian association in the city-- try googling. All the best and hope you have a good stay there! |
empress hair: i got admission into centennial college ontario for january 2014,and i braid hair for a living (twisting, million braids)i dont know if there re customers in scarborough....There are, for sure. Just talk to people that you see with braids to get a sense of the price range to charge; put up notices advertising your services, etc. |
kollinz003: Good afternoon Justwise. Are you intending to immigrate to Canada and live for a while, or just try to get a Canadian work permit from the UK? |
Rexwoods: @ifegy , I need information on exact cost and suggested hospitalYou can try PM'ing hotstepper, as honey86 suggested. Also, you can try google- look up hospitals in the city where you want to go and then call them to ask if they will take non-citizens/permanent residents, and how much they'll charge. They don't seem to put such info on their websites, apparently; so direct contact might be the way to go. |
Perhaps specify exactly what further questions you have... |

kinfuny3: ifegy i think u are right because on the day i went for biometrics i saw two bank statements one from firstbank and GTB. Now that it is refused the GTB account statement was not returned with other docs. Could dat be the problem?...Hmm, from your reply, sounds like either one or both of the bank statements was not genuine...if so, that could indeed be the reason(or one of the reasons) for the refusal. As justwise pointed out, get all the documents submitted on your behalf, and make sure any re-submission has only genuine documents... |
kinfuny3: I recently applied for a Schegen tourist visa tru Spain and i was rejected on the basis that; "information presented to the justification of the purpose and conditions of the intended stayWell, you should probably find out from your agent exactly what he submitted on your behalf. Did he submit false information of some sort to try and boost your chances? That may be what the embassy considers 'unreliable' information. |
When I was at the airport last Dec, I asked some officials (security operatives, I think) about getting a registered/official cab to my destination, and they pointed them out to me. The guy I went with was ok, and provided a receipt. It was 5k to get to the Aso rock part of town (not sure exactly what it's called, sorry). I booked him to take me back to the airport for my return trip, but ended up getting relatives to do it, so I didn't use him a second time. You could try asking at the airport, therefore. I got a business card from the one I used: Ogoke Uchenna, 08038877349. I make no assurances, as I only used him once; but, like I said, it worked out. |
@OP, PLEASE tell your family what's going on right away!!! You cannot go on like this. Life is too precious. Forget the shame and worry over what people will say. You must get help right away. Start with your family, since it seems they don't already know. |
@stagger, em, you know how the whole Russian, communal, back-to-the-land thing (otherwise known as communism) eventually worked out for them, right (Animal farm, anyone)? And how the whole economic system even today is still nuts, with the rich, corrupt few (communist big wigs/connected few turned capitalist oligarchs) versus everyone else? |
Where in Lagos are you starting your journey from? If you have access to the web, try using google maps to plot your trip. |
Sad to hear about your experience. The last time I was there to see if I could get a Nigerian passport to make travel back home easier, it was crazy having to wait the whole day just to get personal data taken down. But after that, they actually did deliver the passport within the time frame promised, which was a pleasant surprise. It would be great if they could deliver consistently, though... |
Ezegozie: pls i need more contributions. for me to finalise my thought. Demaejy's contribution is so nice\ Here is some info on scholarships, grants and fellowships for international students that might be of some interest, in terms of saving you money, especially if you intend to return to Nigeria and try to establish a foothold after school: http://www.scholars4dev.com/category/field-of-study/ Other than that, there are so many options available to you if you do decide to study abroad, from gaining work experience before returning (to enhance your employability back home), to obtaining citizenhsip, depending on where you go to study. It all depends on your ultimate objective. What you could do is give the mid to long range picture some more thought, do some research along those lines, and if you do have specific questions, raise them. Cheers and all the best. |
Nnaaiirra: Greetings Nairalanders -- I've been following this post for a while now and it has been inspiring & helpful. Kudos to you all.Why don't you want to wait for the next full-time intake? |
