1k001: Yea does happen, depends on one's nationality. My Kenyan wife got her visa at arrival so i can say for certain it applies to KenyansThanks for the reply. I've heard about someone (not sure nationality) who got turned back at the airport in Accra, Ghana while trying to board a flight based on the program a few days ago, so wondering what's really going on. Anyone wever tried it on a North American passport, or know someone who has? |

Well, first thing might be to deal with whatever deep seated issues are making you feel like it's you against the world. You are not a celebrity so news of your legal issues have not spread around the world. And even if the news has spread around where you are, the fact that people were willing to offer you a contract in the first place means that some people at least are willing to give you a chance. The fact that the contracts are not being renewed may be due to attitude displayed on the job: if you are feeling defensive, reclusive, paranoid, etc due to your past experiences, you will not be creating a pleasant atmosphere for your workmates and boss, and therefore it may make sense to them not to want to renew the contract (assuming funding is available in the first place, etc). You might want to consider professional counselling to deal with how you are feeling, because becoming as a recluse is not normal and is very likely impacting your family negatively as well. Having said that, Nigeria is a tough environment. If you return there out of frustration and without proper preparation, it may be even worse for you. Assuming you are in the western world somewhere, have you considered moving to a different part of the country you are in, or immigrating to another country? Several countries (Canada, Australia, etc) have programs whereby highly educated professionals can qualify to immigrate. That may be easier for your family to cope with than returning to Nigeria, especially without a foundation in Nigeria. If you are deadset on returning to Nigeria, then consider doing it in stages. First make several trips to explore the lay of the land and get ideas as to what you can get involved in with respect to business, how to get into the educational sector if that's what you want, how much money you will need to settle down, where you can live, what you need to come with (eg car, generator, etc), whether you will need to build/buy a house, whether it will be possible (or desirable) for you to be based there while your family is based outside, etc. Then at least when you make the move, you will be doing it with your eyes wide open. All the best, and remember, deal with the inner stuff that's driving to feel like a 'fatal outburst', or it will turn around and sabotage you one day. |
Has anyone heard about the Nigerian visa on arrival program, where people coming to Nigeria get issued with a visa at a Nigerian port of entry? Is it just for business travellers? Or does it work for visitors too? |
Sir P!:Basically, in the airport, you are charged much higher to change currency, buy food & drink, etc because you're in a captive environment. There's not much choice in that place, whereas if you were on the street in the middle of the town, you can go to a different restaurant if you don't like the prices/menu at the first place you stop, or go to a different currency exchanger or a bank to change your money. |
waka-about:Run and get your money back from the church member right away!!! There is NO SUCH THING as a Canadian Visa Lottery Program. |

To those able to make it out to Yonge today for the NL Toronto meet up, thanks for coming guys! To those who didn't show up, or did African time and missed it, SMH! It was good fun! Hopefully, there'll be a next time for you. |
peaceheartt: Hi all, tnx for d link JW, is it ok to apply now or wait till 2013, as hinted by @dustydee. Tnxx n ve a great day aheadYou should probably wait till the program opens again before submitting your application (for instance, you need to make sure your occupation is on the list of skills needed). In the meantime if you wanted to, you could probably start putting together generic items (documents, certificates, monetary savings, etc) you are likely to need if you do eventually apply...the website might probably give you some idea about this. |
You first get a green card (i.e. become an immigrant) and then apply for citizenship. You could get a green card in different ways- via employment route, marriage, investor class immigration, etc. Check the USCIS website for more details. |

timmy1999: Guy..If my friend grillo sister can relocate with her family to canada what is stoping you..they sold their home in VGC and relocated early last month.nothing dey naija anymore...so follow ur heart and don't let any deleted person discourage u.some pple r already in canada and be discouraging others from coming..why.some of us on nairaland r just wicked....shallaNo one is against the OP's desire to come to Canada. What we are telling him is to go about it the right away, or risk losing his money. I mean, seriously, how can someone ask you for 1 million for a visa, and you not smell a rat? The embassy itself, which is the only one that can give you a genuine visa, does not even charge up to 10% of that amount. If the OP truly has 1 million to spend, why not go to the travelling to Canada thread in this travel section and get info from those who are currently doing their Canadian visa on their own? Or why not go to the Canadian government immigration website and find out for himself exactly what he has to do in order to get a Canadian visa? Reading all this free information on the web will not cost him 1 million. If at the end of the day the OP decides to give away 1 million, at least he will be doing it with his eyes wide open. |
Say goodbye to the money if you give it to him. Please go to the official Canadian government immigration website and educate yourself on how to get to the country legally, www.cic.gc.ca. This is not a place for 'hustling'. Plan properly, get here legally, work hard and you will be rewarded. That's the kind of place it is. Read through the immigration information and you will understand better about the sort of immigrants Canada asks for. |

Bakorede: pls,wat do u mean by landed residence/resident?A landed resident is a permanent resident of Canada (same concept as an American green card holder). You can move on from that to becoming an actual citizen. If you are intending to study in Canada, you should be aware that the government of Canada has recently (few years ago) put in place regulations to make it a bit more straightforward for foreign students to become permanent residents, if they so wish. Check out cic.gc.ca, the Canadian government immigration website. |
lillaowow: bros, thank God for safest journey, we dey yur back..we dey come....I think Fhemmmy was trying to point out two things: 1) avoid changing money in airports (not just Canadian airports) because most of the time you will not get a good rate (just like buying food in airports; you pay way higher than outside the airport) 2) in a lot of places in Canada, you can pay for items with the US dollar. The merchant will tell you what their rate is and deal with you accordingly. There is constant cross border traffic with the US so it is very usual for Americans to show up here wanting to buy stuff with their currency. |
bashtee: @IfegyThanks. Sent you a skype request. Downtown seems to be the way to go, then! Details to be fleshed out shortly. |
enarese4: pls is it not posible for me to work in the uk after i hve gotern my papers?or can i relocate to another countryYou cannot get papers if you go there with a visitor's visa. You cannot relocate to another country with a UK visitor's visa. Your main concern now should be following up on the points made by earlier posters regarding real versus fraudulent documents, to determine whether you have already been banned for 10 years, or whether you are heading for a 10 year ban. |
Fhemmmy: The central one is Yonge & Bloor . . .http://www.koreangrillhouse.com/Ok, Bloor sounds central...let's see what other respondents have to say... |
Fhemmmy: Downtown Toronto is not a bad idea too . . . What do you guys think of Korean gril?...location/closest intersection/subway stop, for everyone's reference? Please and thanks! |
bashtee: @ ifegyIf Finch is not central, no worries; whatever works for everyone, is what we'll work towards. Yes I am on skype. Do you mind sending me an email (check profile for email address) and I will send you my skype id? I'd prefer that to putting it on here. Thanks. |
Go to the Canadan Government's immigration website, cic.gc.ca. Everything is laid out there. Read through. It's straightforward. You can do it by yourself. You can also check out the travel to Canada thread in the travel section. Some people have posted there about their skilled worker immigration experience. |
Fhemmmy: Congee Time is like 3 mins walk from the Finch Station.Sounds good...go for it! And for others heading to the city or already in the city who are interested in touching base, please get in touch with either Fhemmmy or Bashtee or myself! |
