Call the hotel and ask if they can reschedule |
All the best, then... |
lucky Don: i knew of Humber college recently from this thread.and i have already applied for trv with MOHAWK.is it possible to change school after i have arrived Canada?Yes, you can switch between schools after you arrive |
Dextra: I have a job to come back to, I intend to get a notice of annual leave from my employer and also present my payslips.Well, then I guess the best thing to do is make sure you have all the items required in the application form. How about you draw up a list of the documents you intend to submit and put them out on this and the Travel to Canada thread for people to critique? |
Dextra: I've gotten almost all the information I needed on that site. Thanks. Do you think the money I have is enough?Well, I don't know what amount of money they would consider enough, but I think your focus should be demonstrating that you have a source of income, and/or can fund your trip (assuming you're a student and not working). So you might want to consider things like pay slips, or evidence of sponsorship if someone else is funding your trip. As well, bear in mind that if it seems the trip is going to essentially use up all your resources and leave you destitute, the visa officer might wonder what the real purpose is. I mean, if you have nothing to come back to, why would you come back? You generally do need to demonstrate strong ties to your home country (eg assets, property, etc) in order to be granted a temporary visa to another country. |
abnice2004: Sociology. Not more than 10k(cd) tuition.can sum1 aslo work and pay for second year?am sori if am inquisitive. You can work after 6 months but it's very, very unlikely you will earn enough to cover all your expenses. Take some time and go through the thread; there's a lot of useful info for people in your stage of the process. |
Dextra: Can the Visa be processed in Abuja? How long does it take?Well, based on the Canadian Govt's immigration website, visitor visa processing is done at the Lagos office and there is a processing time of 89 days. This is the email address for the Lagos high commission: lagos.immigration@international.gc.ca And this seems to be a website: http://www.vfsglobal.com/canada/nigeria/ I would suggest calling/emailing the high commission or checking their website, for more info on their application procedures and processes. I don't have experience with processing visas through them. I just happened to recall a similar scenario where someone I knew was taking an exam at a consulate, when I read your post. |
abnice2004: Can someone pls explain d issue of this credit hour to me. Winnipeg says 2,248cd per credit hour and I don't undastand.tksI'm guessing you're referring to the dollar cost of a university course. If so, then this might help: courses typically have credit hours attached to them, and you're required to take a certain number of credits in order to graduate. One course might be a 1 credit course, 3 credit course, 6 credit course, etc, depending on the university's course weighting convention. You'd then be charged a dollar fee per credit/per course, so that a 6 credit course would typically cost twice as much as a 3 credit course. |
Dextra: Thank you Ifegy for your response. However, I have been notified of the venue (in Vancouver) and I have also made payment. I would have been much happier if I had the option of taking the exam here in Nigeria. It will save me money for flight and accommodationWell, you could try contacting the exam body, explaining your situation and asking if they can make alternate arrangements for you. Might also be worth mentioning to them that it can take a very long time to process Canadian visas from Lagos, so who knows if you'll get it done in time for making it to the exam? |
Emiree: Thank you all so much. I wonder why there would be baggage issues though. Didn't they load all the luggage on the flight, or were you connecting to another flight from Atlanta?Well, my luggage got left behind both in Atlanta and in Lagos. One explanation I got was that it had been happening on the Lagos flight on several occasions because the flight was typically overloaded, with people bringing on tons of luggage, so that luggage would end up getting left behind and put on a later flight. I guess that's not surprising considering the way people pack like there's no tomorrow when flying to/from Lagos. For me, it was ironic because I only had one piece of luggage, which consistently got left behind on the round trip. Just keep track of all your luggage tags, boarding passes, flight details, etc., and Delta contact details for delayed baggage, etc., and follow up with them consistently. I complained on the Delta website, laid out all the details and sent them the receipts for the out of pocket costs I incurred due to the delay, and they agreed to reimburse me. |
This is how the world is changed, one brick at a time... |
@SaintP, the following is from the Canadian Govt official immigration site. You can read more at the links. You can get a post graduation work permit that is the same as the length of the study program, up to a maximum of three years. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp If the official length of your program of study is two years or more, you MAY get a three year permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp To obtain a work permit after your graduation, please read the requirements on the website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp You can qualify to immigrate under the Canadian Experience Class if you use the post graduation work permit route. These are the conditions: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/apply-who.asp It is possible for your spouse to accompany you and obtain a work permit if you are a full time student with a study permit. Work permits for your spouse or common-law partner are valid for the same period of time as your study permit, and are open, meaning they can work for any employer. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-spouse.asp Note that either you or your spouse can apply under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to immigrate. If you are married or live with a common-law partner in Canada, and that person also meets the conditions , you can decide which one of you will apply under the CEC as a principal applicant. Therefore it might be beneficial to have your spouse accompany you and work while you study. Hope this helps. You can also reach out to the High Commission in Lagos (or check their website)for the visa application process for yourself and your spouse. There is also another thread for people looking to study in Canada: https://www.nairaland.com/962116/travelling-canada-part3/335 |
Em, the visa office in Lagos is probably your best bet, actually... Bear in mind that sometimes regulatory bodies make arrangements for people to take such exams under supervision at the High Commission/embassy of the examining body's country, in the examinee's home country (in this case you'd take it at the Canadian High commission), or some other exam centre in the home country. You might want to check that option with the regulatory body, in case the High Commission here asks you about that. |
Yes the Atl-Lag flight with Delta is still on. Did a round trip recently. I and several others had issues with delayed luggage at both ends of the trip, so you might want to consider either a sole carry-on or be prepared to follow up with their luggage dept. Based on the Arik experience, the Delta in-flight service is better. |
There is a formal one, its on the arrival floor beside first bank
This is international arrivals you're referring to, right? If so, that's very helpful to know. Leripa: Or visit Sulah's head office on Allen avenue, Ikeja.Thanks. I need to use one on arriving at the airport, though. I will need to connect from an international to a domestic flight and apparently you have to take a cab from the international to the domestic terminal. Hence I'll need local currency. |
Thank you |
Vicjustice: You mean those "Hausas" hanging about the airport premises? Thanks. I'm trying to find out if there's any official currency exchange in the airport itself...or is it just informal exchange with the Hausa's that you refer to? |
Does anyone have any information on this- i.e., is there any such thing, is it safe to use, hours of operation, location? Please and thanks! |

bamshy: Hi Everyone,Supported...let's get together, peeps. |
eldred the don: thank you very much for this well structured and concise explanantion. know it is well appreciated. but please i wanna ask , when you talked about the tech industry in ontario, Can you say what aspect of information Technology is booming?.....because i am into networking and telecommunications ,and a lil bit of programming. so i just want to know what my chances are?.....thanksWell, unfortunately I'm not a techie so can't give an indepth answer to that. There is an info tech association of Canada- you could try contacting them to ask if they know what areas employers are hiring in the most these days. http://www.itac.ca/ Other than that, my knowledge is pretty broad based. Eg, there is a cluster of tech companies that have developed around RIM (blackberry maker) in Waterloo, and they seem to cover a broad range of research and innovation in tech areas. This website might help: http://www.techtriangle.com/information_technology There is also something called the Ontario technology corridor which basically covers the tech industry in Southern Ontario: http://www.ontariotechnologycorridor.com/ I also read recently that apparently Toronto is a hot spot for app developer start ups, but again don't have much indepth info on that. The schools you are interested in might also be able to give you an idea of what type of tech employers are doing most of the hiring these days. Hope this helps. Any techies out there wanna add more, pls do. |
