I think he should go back to the GT bank where he made the payment and ask for another reciept. They'll likely issue him another if he can remember the date of payment.

PS : Not saying you should buy from the woman as I don't know her from anywhere but for REAL AND CONFIRMED, Delta do have 210- 220K tickets on sale now. You doubt me? I'll have someone book a seat, give you the ticket reference to call delta and confirm it. They just did not give you their cheapest fares or its not available for your travel dates.
