Education › Re: Is Homework A Waste Of Time For Primary School Children? by ifyalways(f): 9:17pm On Jul 14, 2009
lekside44:
This is an article i saw on page 45 of the PUNCH newspaper published on friday 24th of April, 2009.it reads:

"some teachers in Liverpool during association of teachers and lecturer conferences claims that homework is a waste of their own time and the children's time.they said it is a a time that could be used for more profitable on effective learning both in and out of the classroom."

My own view of this is that in Nigeria, most homework given to children are puzzles meant for the parents since thy help their ward in solving the question without many students actually grabbing the problem in question. nairalanders, what are your own views?
I think the purpose of homework which is to :
chaircover:
I don’t think homework is a waste of time.

• It teaches the child discipline to work without someone breathing down their neck in the classroom.

• It gives the kid an opportunity to realise that work doesn’t only have to be done in school

• It gives the parent & child an opportunity to bond; the child asks questions and the parents answer/discuss homework and are able to talk about other things relating to school.

• It helps give the parents an idea on how well or not the child is doing at school and to offer help if the child needs it

• It takes the kid away from watching too much TV in the evening

• Yes - sometimes some home work is even challenging for parents to work out the answers but that can only be a good thing as it is enhances parents knowledge. One can learn new things an any time of their lives
has been defeated in most cases in Nigeria.
Reasons(esp in govt owned schools):
Teachers dont teach in school, they wud rather load the students with assignments and homework of Topics they have never heard of/treated in class.
Students most times don't do the homework, they look for an erderly person to help them do it,or copy the answers/solve the problems from their textbook.
Sometimes, students are loaded with lots of homework u wud begin to wonder if they do anything at all in school. How do u justify a child coming back from sch. with like 7 homeworks for 7 diff. subjects?
Not all parents even have time to go through the kids homework.mad rush for money.
The teachers sometimes "might" not even look at the homework the next day.It wont stop them from assigning a new one the next day too.
Dont know abt Nig. Private schools though.

Hey fellow Nairalanders! My friend is 25 yrs old and has only been asked out once. In all fairness to her, she pretty, well behaved and intelligent but a little bit shy. Are there people in d house who are or have been in similar situatiön? Come on, lets talk about it. What do u think is respönsible for this? Whats she not doing right? Your suggestions are welcomed
If shes pretty, has a good job and Xter but locks herself out from the world, the world wud forget her and move right on. . . .Tell her that !
Let her smile often,go out often(If shes born-again,she can attend single progs. in church, weddings, child naming ceremonies, she can also chill out with GFs at the beach, clubs, parties once-in a while).
Lastly,u as her friend can organice blind dates for her(be careful though, this can be disastrous undecided )
You guys can go shopping together, salon,to the seamstress. . .reason, she wud get to meet more ladies, gist with them and gently overcome shyness.

Whome:
I just read IFA's response and that was uncalled for. I can only hope that one day you are not in this womans shoes. Remember GOD sees ALL things. He loves us ALL even those of us that make choices that are not the best. But remember that he also allows things to happen to us as a reminder of our place as humans. Watch what you say to others and try to be more humane and understanding than judgemental and superior. If God was that way we would all be dead and I know you are not holier than him.

I am not trying to get into it with you I am just trying to get you to be a little more "open minded" wink

I wud like u to point out where i condenmed the lady  undecided

I wonder why brides-to-be inflate the price of clothing materials ( "ASO Ebi"wink used during their wedding ceremony, is it a kind of Fund-raising scheme?
rofl @Fund-raising
If its true then it might be a way of making u pay for the wonderful food and drink u'r gonna consume on the wedding day considering the fact that most peeps see weddings as an avenue for free food and drink (Plus take away),sadly such ppl rarely attend with valuable gifts. undecided

Family › Re: No More Communication And Sex In My Marriage by ifyalways(f): 5:37pm On Jul 14, 2009
Xiomarra:
The thread is 2 years old but still has relevance to most relationships today.

Please, my anger is not that serious to withold sex from my husband for 5 months. Especially when I know say the dude no dey take the thing play oooooooooooooooh. Some women are stupidly brave I must say. Thank God I do not consider myself in that category. We can attend to business and continue the quarrelling later. Besides, I know what a wonderful deek he has and cannot dream of not using it as much as possible since I don't know where and if I will get another one that scratches ALL areas like his. grin

Also, I have noticed that sex is awesome after a good "fight". The residual anger is used to propagate sadistic pleasures in the bedroom and boy, I love it. cool

@Poster,

I hope you have resolved these problems by now. Please come back if you have not. I have a lot of advice for you.

You were not wrong for what you did but you were insensitive. If you know what pleases your wife, you should do it without much machoism. I would not like any extended relative to live with me in my house with my family. But under the circumstances, you had no choice but to let the woman and the 4 kids into your home even if only temporarily.

If I were you, I would let the woman and her 4 kids in for some time but make it clear to your wife that it is only like for a month or so. Then as a man, I would leave the house as much as possible for them only coming home for brief periods of time. So the wife and her sister would understand that I can only tolerate the situation for so long.

Next time talk less and let your actions tell others how you feel. Calling your wife's sister a trouble maker was a little off the mark. You only added insult to injury here. One day it may be your turn to look for shelter when your marriage is about to hit the rocks. Looks like you just gave your wife an opportunity to hate your guts.

Please come back and give us updates.

I think she needs to leave him for sometime(NOT divorce),let him stay alone and enjoy his Mistresses while she goes somewhere else and reflect on the marriage and ger life generally.
Sadly, she alone can decide what to do,either to leave or to stay.i wish she makes the right choice.
