I am directed to notify and inform you all of your screening as a minister nominee. In conformity with the norm and law of the land, it is pertinent you undergo this screening so as to earn you a confirmation as a substantive minister of this great republic.

"what a waste!", were the quick intrusive thoughts that took hold of my mind, as I lay awake, motionless, in the semi-dark room, whose only faint source of light, shone through the open window, from the reflection of a vigorously burning flame of flared gas from the nearby flow station of the city's oil and gas company. The ferocious flames sometimes gave me the shakes of how the much talked about hell experience would be -- horrific! at the very least; I sure wouldn't want to be caught up in that experience.

"she had you for a fool! you prolly should have listened, perhaps, your night wouldn't have ended up wasted!" , the thoughts continued reprimanding bitterly. She had called in by phone, announcing her intentions on coming over to spend sometime with me, but was constrained financially and needed saving. She had in the past given political promises, and like the gullible follower, I had swallowed them time and again. Excited! at what she had said, damning all contrary thoughts, I transferred a considerable amount, more than enough to transport her and all her belongings as though she were relocating for good. But like some of her well polished promises in the past, this was another hoax.

"maybe I was a fool -- for her at least. I prolly concentrated too much on the fixing to suspect any smart play from her and like the fox she capitalized on that or maybe she just got knocked by a car or something -- I dunno" , a second thought said, irritably in agreement.

"it's just sad I had to give up a good smoke and a stiff drink of hard liquor all to stay tuned for her" the thoughts continued regretfully.

At this time, I realized I had been on that spot for quite awhile now. Dawn was beginning to set-in, as the room slowly got brighter. I had slept suddenly last night on the sofa, after the disappointing wait; awaking only to realize I'd sleep-walked to the double sized bed in the room.
At the moment, I desired nothing more than a good smoke and a strong liquor to help still my mind and appease my soul.

***rolls over to the left side of the bed, with hands close enough, flicks the switch of d table lamp, standing on top of d bedside locker with a set of drawers -- on. Sits up on the edge of the bed, slightly raising the left hand to shield eyes from the blinding effect of the beams from the lamp. Pulls out the first drawer and reaches for the substance and a lighter. Sticking one end of the substance between lips, closes palms on d flame from the lighter on d other end.

Draws in a lungful of the lit substance and slowly releases tiny whiffs of smoke into the air through pouted lips. With the substance burning in-between lips, bends over with a bit of luck to locate the bottle of Russian water standing beside the locker. Takes d bottle to mouth and gulps some of the liquor, cursing only briefly from its burning sensation. Lowers the bottle to the floor and returns back to lying position, puffing away slowly on d lit substance***

After awhile, came a sharp voice, "who come dey smoke this kind early morning for my compound", inquiring from outside my window. I was on d third stick of d substance, unaware that, dawn had fully set. "that's gotta be MamaChi", a voice predicted, the mannish landlady who owned the only provision store in the compound. "who b dat pesin", she said persistently with a bit of a rasp in her voice. Somehow she knew I was d one but she always preferred the dramatics.

***jerks up from the bed, drops the stub of the substance to the floor and steps on it with d back of d heels, putting it off.***

This lady gives me d scare, she had once made my nerve snap, when she snuck up on me from behind, a certain night and caught me puffing the substance at an isolated corner at the rear of the building. Since then, I had always tried to avoid her trouble. She moved her bulk in a staggered manner that made one wonder, da hell the handsome, soft-spoken husband, saw in her to wife her. Sometimes I argue within myself that she prolly proposed to him or used diabolic means to hook him. But, despite her horrific looks, she was lucky to have three beauties and a son, who, unfortunately didn't fight d genes of her looks well enough. Chichi is the second daughter and the prettiest amongst them.
Chichi!... boy! ....What a lovely dish she is. God!.. did nature smile on this broad! Every curve on her body gave out ideas to whomever was listening. God surely took his time on her, putting the right proportions in the right places. I'd love to stir that ship one of these days. She's got to be part of the reason why I still reside here, I'd often thought. Oh well! a good meal is always worth the wait.

***smiling cynically, walks briskly out of the room feeling a bit satisfied***

Golden city must be warming up already for the day.

By this, the recess embarked upon by members of the senate is OVER!

Update on events.

On the 3rd of febuary at about 1-3 pm, distinguished senator IghraveIG will present to us, a detailed and comprehensive Update on political, social and economic sagacity that rocked/s the seat of power.

Ministerial screening shall take place 48 hrs after the update. This is to enable senators delibrate on presidential matters (update of events) and allow time for notification of ministrial nominees.
