My man, i am from Imo, my mum from anambra, i did my secondary schooling in abia, my university in enugu, i am well absorbed in these states. Imo and abia tends to slide in the dark skin/ caramel/ ebony than fair or yellowish. Anambra/enugu has more concentration of light skined/ fair individuals, ebony state is predominantly darkskined
It's the other way round, people from Imo/Abia tend to be lighter skinned than people from other parts of igboland.

I didn't say Mmingwo is an igbo greeting. It's a word play: Mmingwo(palm wine-Owerri dialect) and Migwo.

My dad did his bachelors and masters here in the US back in the 80s before leaving for Nigeria right after. He dated an African American while he was here and guess what? This lady adopted our family last name after he left, had a daughter and gave her our family last name and her daughter now had a son who she still gave her son our family last name! Now, there is a whole different branch of our family last name existing in the United States!

And just like you said, this lady's daughter always felt she had Ibo roots even though she wasn't sure and when Nigerians asked her if her last name was Ibo or Yoruba, she said she always responded 'Ibo' even before confirming it with me on Facebook. She plans to visit Nigeria someday.
I totally agree with you. Apart from that,it's our duty to teach those of them that show interest in the igbo culture. I was even surprised when one of them joined the struggle for the actualization of Biafra via facebook, lol.
Apparently, she has been making independent researches about igbos after the little discussion we had.

Lol,this is interesting indeed. Origin of the white race. Going by this piece, oyibos are the white children of the black race that left because they were being bashed for their white skin tones. Left the comfort zone of Africa and came back with gold- superior technology and advancement. Any link between these oyinbos in yoruba myth and the albinos?

Some African Americans who do not have a recent igbo ancestry adopt igbo names because of their contacts and friendship with Igbo people. I've seen quite a few of them reach out to me on facebook to teach them about the Igbo culture and Nigeria in general. Some of the name just feel it within them that they have igbo ancestry and just pick igbo names right away. I've given 2 of them igbo names which they loved but haven't started using them formally. It a way of reconnecting back to the Motherland even if they never visit Africa in their life time.

These things can only happen when you are playing husband and wife in a mere relationship afterall, there is nothing exciting about the both of you any longer.
A 'decent' girl who guards her body, time and mind will not fail into this problem of being dumped by a 'decent' man. A ''real'' man who knows that a woman shouldn't play Wife or Mistress to him in the name of a relationship. Not the half ass men in the shoes of the OP who will mess up a girl and dump her.
There is no differences between the irresponsible girlfriend on the Ops list and the irresponsible man that dumps her after being with her for a long time.

Lolz! Anyway,if we go by colonial records, igbos were one of the ethnic groups with large numbers of light skin people. At least 80 percent of those records speak of their skin tones. If other ethnic groups were that light, they would have written it down. Don't mix up the Fulanis with the Shuwa Arabs and related groups you see on your streets. We are talking about groups that have been in Nigeria for years not people with recent records of migration.

I never cursed you out, so don't misconstrue things. Also , you clearly stated that some Urhobos have Igbo ancestry, which is highly debatable. And yes, Urhobo happens to share words with Igbo and Yoruba, but it has no effect on the language as it's distinctively Edoid. There's nothing you people can do to change that.
There is nothing my people want to do about it as it's not igboid. However,it's interesting that igbo found it's way into an edoid language.

You and I know that the Urhobos and Isokos are 'minority' groups and they cherish that status.
They are also generally igbophobic, you see them wailing that they have entered one chance because an Ifeanyi is their governor, they believe Igbos are expansionists and land grabbers (thanks to the lagos-ibadan expressway media houses)
Even though it may be true, blatantly saying that some of them are partly Igbo will potray you as an expansionist and a land grabber in their eyes.
I know how their minds work.

Besides, na you madness go strike
If you are 'igbo' like you claim yet do not understand the simple igbo i wrote there, then strike out that Igbo from your moniker. You are not Igbo. I like how you justify your reasons for attacking and insulting me for a simple question i asked while showing support for non Igbos at the same time.
Finally, Na u madness go strike since you don't understand a simple Igbo sentence. Efulefu should be your new name.

That is a lie from the pit of hell. Urhobos are not linked with Igbos in any way shape or form. The Urhobo language has some similarities with Esan and Etsako also Isoko since they are almost the same. For you to claim that shows how ignorant you really are.
@you,trapQ and the rest. I never said Urhobo was igbo or Igboid. Can't you all read for Pete's sake? Any reasonable person would want to investigate how Yoruba and Igbo words found their way into Urhobo and Isoko lexicon and that alone points to several sources including shared ancestry, commerce, migration, inter marriage, influence etc. I don't know why you all are ignorant of simple facts and rather curse out people. If you insist that those words few into your language just like that,so be it. Ignorance is deadlier than foolishness!

lwkmd this one is saying igbo is written all over nollywood o kikikiki cheesy ... Nollywood comprises of all the movies acted in Nigeria this include Yoruba Igbo and Hausa tongue yorubas maketh films with der language and ppl watch it very well.. Dey even made africa magic yoruba nd even hausa cause dey are proud to act like dat nd it's still selling ive not seen africa magic igbo (lol wonders who will watch dat tho) whilst most igbos maketh films with english, fear of being not watched if dey use der language for d films, speaking of which films dat r acted with u ppls language is sooo boring, ps an Igbo frend of mine said dat... So because most of u run from ur language using English makes i think u own nollywood.. Lol I thought all u ppl do is to claim now i see uve added stup!dity grin
I wouldn't stoop so low to insult you. Can't you Yorubas state your opinions without insulting others? Why are you all very Razz?
Anyway,go and ask Olu Jacob, Omotola, Funke Akindele etc who gave them the opportunity to participate in Nollywood. Folks like Desmond Elliot and Ramsey Nouah had to hide their Yoruba identity when they joined Nollywood. Nollywood has expanded, now we have assimilated actors from all over the Nation, even up to Ghana, Cameroon and Kenya. Don't take that priviledge and expansion for granted!

fratermathy:

Igbo words in Urhobo is not unique. Urhobos have a bad habit of borrowing other language's words. Urhobo is not as linguistically wholesome as Igbo or Yoruba is and so words that have no direct translation in Urhobo are borrowed from other languages, ergo, the use of some Igbo words. To yield credence to this, Igbos have been neighbours to Urhobos via the Abraka/Orogun axis for quite a long time. Igbo is a language of commerce and affluence and so most Urhobos employed words that they learnt from their travails to Onitsha, Aba, etc in the Urhobo language!
Lol, why are you all mentioning me up and down. I only wanted to get basic information concerning the presence of Igbo words in Urhobo/Isoko language. This fear of Igbo people is getting out of hand and you all should deal with it! Nobody is claming Urhobo and Isoko to be Igbo or Igboid but the word out there is that some Isoko clans have Igbo ancestry or influence, which ever way you want to put it. What you have here is not a unique case. Even in Igbo,we share certain words with our neighbours and that is a pointer to shared ancestry or influence if further investigations are conducted.
It will be nice if we have an open discussion about the origin of those Yoruba and Igbo words in your language instead of coming off as angry whenever Igbo is mentioned along side Isoko/Urhobo.

It is foolishness if you don't know that Oyibo is an Igboword. It is also foolishness when you fail to realise that no Igbo claims Ashewo to be Igbo. The Igbo word for Ashewo is Akwunakwuna or Iko for side chick and that is what we use in deep igbo conversations.
It is also foolishness when you have refuse to acknowledge that Yoruba,Hausa and Igbo made movies before 1992 but what we know as Nollywood has igbo written all over it. Pls refer to threads about Nollywood.
