Afam4eva: A religious tradition in a multi-religious or secular country? Anything that will conceal people's identity should be looked into. I have nothing against the religion.
A tradition is what it is regardless of the chosen way it is mirrored. It's an infringement, even in a secular country, to ban the use of the nijab.
It's not about the nijab, people will always find new ways to commit crime.

PAGAN 9JA:
excellent post. this tradition and religion of Seprent worship is also present among the Nair and Bantavaru tribes of South-West India. they call themselves the Nagas or Serpent race. they worhsip Seprents to a large extent, especially the poisonous King Cobra. apparently these Serpents rarely harm human beings members of these tribes , especially around the Sacred Groves. if a person even witnesses a dead snake , he/she must conduct an appropriate funeral for the deceased snake and feed the entire village (approx 100 persons). if a person kills the snake, that individual must be ready to face the much feared wrath of the Cobra. apparently the influence and the power of the Serpents in these areas is such that muslims who live there have also secretly taken to worshiping these snakes. cool

You do know that some Nagas use snakes to harm people. They use black magic and even likened to assassins. That was then I don't know about now.

Africans are known to use acid from what I've read from other stories in this section.

This is really awful and I really hope they get the person who did this. Her life will never be the same but I hope she can try to move on. Really sad sad

Afam4eva: This is why we say wearing of hijab or any form of clothing that conceals people's faces should be banned. Even a majority muslim country like Kosovo has banned it. It should be extended to other countries. How are the going to catch who poured acid on this woman?
How can you suggest to dissolve a tradition over this kind of argument? Have Igbo men learnt to cook or stop fighting over land?
TV/MoviesRe: Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun by ijebabe: 10:57pm On Feb 01, 2013
I hope Orikinla is right. I'll look it up.

It is normal for certain scenes to be removed during editing and it is the director's call. It is not a question of Genevieve being a good actress because there's no doubt she is one of the best actresses Nollywood has got and that is the truth. If she fails abroad it will not be an encouragement to others in the industry who want to move out of their of mediocre productions to bigger and better ones. Rather than throw jabs at her for moving into bigger productions it should be the opposite. It's not her fault the Nigeria film industry is the way it is!

I was only concerned about the fact that the movie did not have a strong Nigerian casting to begin with and cutting out Genevieve's scenes felt like what was left of that 'Nigeria' element was lost. Well, except for the names of the author and director. That will also mean that Chinwetel's role will be cut too. I don't mean to ignore Zack Orji and the other Nigerian actors involved but I hope you understand what I mean.

I'm still looking forward to seeing the movie and no matter what is edited I hope Biyi does us proud.

TV/MoviesRe: Half Of A Yellow Sun: Best Nigerian Movie For 2013 by ijebabe(op): 7:48pm On Feb 01, 2013
SMH

Genevieve Nnaji's small part in the big screen adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel “Half of a Yellow Sun” has been cut out from the finished film. It wasn't just Genevieve's scenes that were cut from the movie, a few other characters from the book didn't appear in the movie. Sources in the know say the producers may have cut Genevieve from the movie because her character wasn't important to the story and was dragging the storyline unnecessarily. Other characters didn't appear because there was not much time to tell everyone's story. Genny may appear in a scene or two but it will be very insignificant. Genevieve played the role of Ms Adebayo, a professor who develops a flirtatious relationship with her colleague Mr Odenigbo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Genevieve might not even know she's been cut from the movie.

I can't believe that Biyi Bandele will allow this. How can the role be unimportant, unless the script writer did a bad job. I hope this is one big joke!

Let's see how Nigerians will react to this development. The BIS service is what is making blackberry lag behind. Remove that and see development in the phone's technology. The world is fast advancing beyond BIS technology.
Lol! True. You should hear them get defensive over why BB is the best there is grin

TV/MoviesStanley Ohikhuare's 'Loop' Premieres Online by ijebabe(op): 5:52pm On Feb 01, 2013
Stanley Ohikhuare's Award Winning Short Film 'Loop' Premieres Online

No tickets, no invites, just 15 minutes of your time. Cinematographer and Director Stanlee Ohikhuare’s award winning ‘LOOP’ takes the viewer on a chilling suspense- filled ride in 15 minutes.

Synopsis
LOOP is a story about two twin sisters who scheme a deceptive plot to help one of them "Jenny" to travel out of town for an interview against the wishes of her husband. According to the plan, Julia was supposed to fill in for Jenny -- her identical twin sister until her return. However, things take a drastic turn when Tony; Jenny's sex-starved husband comes home drunk that same night, resolved not to accept a "No" when he makes sexual advancements towards his wife Jenny.

Jenny is frigid and does not enjoy sex -- a situation that has left her husband Tony sexually deprived and frustrated. Julia just happened to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time and she bears the recompense for her sister's unyielding nature.

What follows is a spasm of hallucinations, fantasy and sordid surrealism which proves deadly and leaves Jenny in a fix as she must now assume her sister's identity.

Bola Edwards gives an outstanding performance playing the ill-fated twins Jenny and Julia.

Stanlee Ohikhuare is also the director of the soon to be released flick ‘Tunnel’ which stars Femi Jacobs, WAJE, Nse Ikpe-Etim and others. He also directs the animated movie ‘Lifespan’ due for release later this year.

‘LOOP’ was nominated in 5 categories in the ‘In-Short Film festival’ in 2012, including Best Director and Best Actress. It clinched the award for Best sound.
