okunoba: @Ijebabe, As mentioned by Afam, there are many societies where walking naked in public is part of their culture and way of life, but I am sure this isn`t allowed in most parts of the World and certainly in all muslim countries. Based on your logic, shouldn`t these people be allowed to follow their tradition of wearing very little or nothing in Mecca and all the other Countries where it`s not allowed? But since it doesn`t affect you, u don`t care about tradition in this case. Atleast they are not using it as a cover to commit a crime. My logic is very simple. Just because a person covered his/her face to carry out a criminal attack does not justify banning the use of the nijab. When muslims go to take passport photographs for official documentation don't they remove their headpiece? Laws are laws, the government can look into means of catching these criminals and not an outright ban of the nijab. The UK as a nation is more tolerant and aware of the different cultures of its citizens, hence it is absolutely ridiculous to ban the use of nijab because a crime was committed where the person covered his/her face! Its very simple really. |
I said Hindus in India are seen as Aryans not India as a whole ![]() Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me, you obviously know their traditions well! I am into mythology and that's how it led me to RMN and MBH ![]() |
Afam4eva: Again, this is not about the hijab but about facial coverings. Do you know some religions allows people to walk unclad? Will you also defend people who their religions allows them to walk unclad in public? But walking unclad has been banned by most countries without bearing in mind that it's the belief of some people.Which religions and in what context is it allowed? I can't argue that with you. Banning the nijab doesn't make sense to me in this girl's case. It is ridiculous. |
Afam4eva: The bolded is permitted as long as it's done in the comfort of one's home. But anything that will affect other people need to be looked into. I'm not saying it's wrong to wear a hijab but for the sake of security and posterity, any kind of total face covering should be banned. We need to see the faces of people around us. if they want to keep covering their faces then they should stay indoors. It is not for you to decide what people wear and who should stay indoors! It is a shame that woman/man who damaged that girls face can't be found, that doesn't mean the nijab should be banned! That person used it to hide his/her identity to carry out the crime, whether the nijab is banned or not, would have covered up to attack the girl anyway. Its like saying if women stop wearing short dresses there will be no rape. Once a person is sick in the head or wants to carry out an evil deed you think banning a nijab will get in his/her way? How can the UK take away such rights from their citizens? It sounds ridiculous to me. |
okunoba: @ijebabe:, Tradition does not make everything right, was it not tradition to use human beings as sacrifice in most parts of Africa until the Europeans banned it, was it not the tradition in calabar to kill twins until our colonial masters stopped it. Please lets look at issues based on logic not because it`s our tradition, culture or religion. These things are meant to be dynamic not stagnant, change is part of growing up. We can`t keep on holding on to things just because our forefathers did it that way. Based on your reasoning maybe we should go back to the culture of enslaving our fellow black brothers since it was our tradition before Britain put a stop to it by force. We should be governed by reason not tradition from the dark ages.It is obvious you did not understand my post. Afam made reference to religious tradition, I was only saying that tradition still remains tradition. Christians will argue that God said a woman's role is to cook and not the man. When we know its just traditions brought into religion. Banning the nijab based on these crimes is pointless and no one has the right to strip that away, secular society or not. That's my argument. I am not supporting crimes or wicked traditions. |
This doesn't say anything about Genny's role in Half A Yellow Sun though. Ngo is just hot! |

Yeah they had a very effective caste system back then. I remember reading that children were taken away from their parent to be educated and during the course of that it would be decided what caste the fell under. Just because both parents are Kshatriyas doesn't mean the child will end up one, although that was majorly the case. Upon completion of their education they would leave to join their caste. The down side was sometimes parents ended up not seeing or knowing their children till they were adults as they were under the tutelage of the gurus. The Ruling family has this rule imposed on them but for the sake of the crown they made sure their children came home early. Vaishyas travelled alot as they dealt in trading. You're right about the Shudras. I believe Aryans is loose a description. Aren't they divided into 2? The Suryas and and the Chandras which make up the Aryan nation? I'm still wrapping my head around this part. Presently all hindus in India are seen as Aryans. I didn't know the forest dwelling tribes where called half-citizens, sad. |
Im sure ur name means something nice, I just find it funny that Jide is Jhyde and Lekan is, well you know hehe. Don't be heart broken, its just me. Well progress is a good thing, its just a shame that certain must go for progress to take shape. The caste system is just the effect of capitalism cos in the days of Shiva every person had a dharma and were respected for it. Not everyone was born to be a Kshatriya or a Brahmin. I enjoyed reading the Mahabharata and the Ramanayan and was questioned at home alot about it as its unchristian. I couldn't be bothered because it was all out of curiosity and interest. I don't think there is any hindu god I don't know of and I don't think there's anything wrong in that. |
I am more intrigued than judgmental about their culture their beliefs. Its a shame its eroding with modern times. |
Please try it, especially in the north ![]() |
You must be right. From what I have read from the Mahabharata I know them more in relation to their gods than otherwise. |
Alright. If I remember correctly they worship Shiva (he is always pictured with a snake) and he is known as the Destroyer. |
pDude: Nne, if you see how me sef used to defense my blackberry, you go sorry for me. Now I feel so ashamed when I remember those days. ![]() The BB has always been a boring phone. Never wasted money on it but I understand why its preferable there. |
