dfos2k: Why do you think Peugeot lost their market leadership status in Nigeria? Lack of innovation and unnecessary arrogance that is displayed in their unwillingness to follow changing consumer tastes and trends.
You mean Nigerians changed their taste and trends for broke automobiles and you want Peugeot to stoop that low? That some Nigerians couldnt afford Peugeot 406 when it was sold brand new, whose fault it is? Why not tell Ferrari & Lamborghini to produce low quality cars so that Nigerians can afford them?

wisesystem: Very timely information, my car mileage is 86,000 now and was thinking of changing it for preventive maintenance reasons. The idea that the gear box oil fluid can serve the life of a car worries me given how dirty those changed usually look...
You would be surprised that after 200,000 km, your gearbox oil will still look new.

If you want to find out, remove Transponder on the gearbox. Gearbox oil will likely drop. Come back and tell us what you see. You can hardly tell if its oil or water. It looks like water, its as light as water but a little bit sticky. Its even lighter than fully synthetic engine oil.

But like i said earlier, there is no harm in renewing it, if you can get the recommended oil grade outside the country or you sacrifice smooth shifting using available one in Nigeria.

gambus007,

I think you need to be expilcit with your (TB) throttle body description.

What drives the TB butterfly? I mean, what opens up that valve in the TB I am looking at on the pictures? Where is the throttle cable connected to in the engine bay? On the TB? If on the TB, remove that intake tube on the TB, have someone depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold it there with ignition off, then look inside the TB. See if the butterfly is wide open. Ask the person to gradually release the pedal. Keep looking to see if the butterfly gradually close up. If that happens, then your TB butterfly is mechanically or cable driven.

The thing is, the images you posted are not clear enough. I could see the throttle cable resting close to the TB, but couldnt see if it stops on the TB or on a sensor on a TB.

If the TB butterfly is mechanically driven, then it should have a sort of IAC. You just have to find it, clean it, lubricate and reinstall. After, re-initialise the ECU to work with the refurbished or replaced IAC.

You could try Peugeot TPS and MTB reset procedure and see if that works. Find them below:

For TPS: http://www.peugeotowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=21

For MTB: http://www.peugeotowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=23

But if really the TB butterfly is electrically driven, then you may likely need another one. A brand new one will make more sense. But the ECU may have to be re-initialised with the TB/TPS.

If you can't do these checks yourself, bring the car to me to look at it, since you stay in Abuja.

As for what your mechanic did on the TB, I have no comment on that, since I do not know what he did. He probably fiddled messed with the throttle stop, if the TB is not controlled by ECU. But if its ECU controlled, then I really have no comment on that.

Good luck.

bigx: I'm having the hard shifting too and in hindsight, it started when some guy drained my gearbox,
Please is this the reccomended, what quantity would fill the box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Total-BV-75W80-Transmission-Manual-Gear-Box-Oil-TOT-149980-2-2x1L-2-Litre-/151312630583?pt=UK_Vehicle_Oils_Lubricants_Fluids&hash=item233aef8337
Yes, thats the recommended fluid.

The gearbox takes 1.75 litre (2 litres).

Good morning house,

As new people are switching to Lions, I need to educate you guys on some tips that will help you keep your Lions in good shape and on the road beyond your imaginations.

Please, don't fall a victim to manual gearbox oil fluid change from our mechanics. Newly imported used Lions are always the victims here. They will tell or advice you to change the manual box fluid. Please, don't. Because, if you do, you won't enjoy the shifting anymore.

For most BVM5 boxes in modern Peugeots, TOTAL 75W-80 is recommended. But then, Peugeot said the oil in the box already is to be used for life, no need of changing it. But even if you are not comfortable with that claim or you observed a leakage and need to top up or change the fluid, then use TOTAL 75W-80. Its fully synthetic. But what we have in Nigeria are not fully synthetic: TOTAL 85W-90 & TOTAL 85W-140. The closest to the recommended fluid is the 85W-90. Of course, it won't harm the box if used, but the gear stick shifting will become hard and uncomfortable. You will need to apply pressure for the lever to go in a gear, unlike before you could shift with a finger or two.

Also, if you must top up, then you must drain the fully synthetic in the box and replace with the 85W-90, if you can't afford to import the 75W-80. Mixing fully synthetic with conventional fluid will damage box seals and your box will start losing fluid.

Hope that helps.

Since i put in manual gear oil in my car last week, the gear is now hard especially in gear1 and 2. My mech says the clutch disc needs a replacement. The question is why did it start immediately i added gear oil?
The hard shifting started because you probably put non fully synthetic manual gearbox oil in.

Peugeot recommended TOTAL 75W-80 for that box. But you won't find that oil grade in Nigeria, rather, TOTAL 85W-90, which is the closest. When you use the TOTAL 85W-90, the transmission will still work well, but the gear lever will become hard to shift into gears, especially 1,2 & 3. But with the recommended fluid, the shifting becomes very smooth.

Thanks to you all.
Hi,

Were you the one that sent me a whatsapp message thursday, 17,07,2014, making an enquiry on Peugeot 407? If yes, I believe we have discussed everything on the phone. But let me know if you need more clarifications.

By the way, a senior colleague of mine in my business group told me today, this evening, that he imports Peugeots from France and sells in Abuja. Incase you stay in Abuja and still searching for one, I can send you his contact to find out if he has one and go for inspection.

Car TalkRe: How Reliable Is Peugeot 306 by Ikenna351(m):
CityNG: Peugeot left the US in disgrace in the early 90's due to lackluster sales, lack of proper dealership support hence no parts availability. They haven't returned since while other brands like FIAT and even new ones like Lexus, Infiniti, Kia, Hyundai are here.

The rumor is that Peugeot is either unwilling to certify there cars to meet US safety standards or they are unable to. This is my premise that they are living and relying on past laurels. They entered the US in the 80's when things were lax (no airbags, ABS, side impact beams, etc) but are unable to return when safety standards are much higher. I am suspect of any manufacturer that is not selling in the US market. We are voracious consumers of automotive goods. Even Honda and VW have manufacturing plants (plural) in the US.

So the STX (turbo) was picked up really cheap in early 90s, but surfers from the aforementioned lack of proper dealer network support. Simple things such as oil filter was a chore to get (this was pre eBay/Amazon), you had to go to speciality stores and they treated the parts as if it's made out of gold (much akin to what OP will be getting into in Nigeria).

If OP had said, "hey guys, I'm thinking of adding a Peugeot to my fleet of Citroen and Moskovitch" then my answer would be different. Because that would explain a hardy autoist.

This just seems like an unnecessary desire to inflict automotive pain on oneself. Nigeria is not conducive, yet, to dabbling with cars like this for the novice.
Being a dream killer is one thing, but labeling yourself as a strong one with stinking lies is worrisome. Do you really need to go this extent to kill Ops dream with all these lies above?

1. Peugeot left USA & Canada in 1992 or so because the sale has started dropping, after 505 was declared unsafe for lacking "airbag" only, which has been set as standard in US.

2. So you based your facts on rumor? Did you say Peugeot entered US in the '80s? And did you say Peugeots in US in the '80s had no ABS? Wow!

Peugeot has been in the US since the '60s. Peugeot 404, which the production started in 1960, was sold in US with 3-speed auto transmission. That is, Peugeot introduced auto transmission in 404 in North American market. Even before the 404, it appeared Peugeot sold 403 in US in the '50s as well, because quite a number of North America French Car online forums had and still have Peugeot 403.

ABS was standard in Peugeot 505 V6 which production started in 1986. All STX had ABS. But the 505 V6 with GLX and S badges in Canada and US had no ABS, because the Teves Mark II ABS Peugeot used then (integral ABS type) was not compatible with LSD (Limited Slip Differential). So the GLX & S badges were produced for those who wanted a V6 and LSD, but would have to sacrifice ABS. While all STX had ABS, including 505 Turbos (phase II). That's why all STX and Turbos had different shock absorbers and alloy wheels, because the conventional alloy wheels on other 505 badges were not compatible on the ABS brake Calipers and rotors which were bigger in size.

Peugeot had no option than to leave those markets because the sales were dropping and the newer products they produced then (205, 405 & 605) had no Airbag as well, which were selling in other regions and continents. So , they left and shifted their focus in those places.

3. Did you say you got 505 " STX Turbo"? On which planet?

Peugeot did not, I repeat. Peugeot DID NOT produce any 505 with STX badge that had Turbo engine. All STX 505 had ZN3J engine in them (145 hp). The 505 with STX badges were produced and sold solely in US and Canada. All had ZN3J- PRV V6 engine in their engine bays. The other 505 V6 in US that were not STX had either GLX or S badges, with the same 145 hp. While most European spec 505 V6 had 170 hp, the same ZN3J- PRV V6 engine, but tuned to perform aggressively than those sold in US. All 505 V6, no matter the badge, had Naturally Aspirated V6 PRV engine. None had turbo V6 engine, no matter the specifications. Only 505 with Turbo badges had Turbo engines, but none had STX badge. Where then did you buy your 505 STX Turbo? From Jupiter?

Let's not forget, Peugeot 505 V6 production stopped in 1989, even though 505 production continued. Because the newer PRV engines (ZPJ & ZPJ4) that succeeded/replaced ZN3J were launched in 1989 Peugeot 605 V6. To put it together, ZPJ & ZPJ4 replaced ZN3J.

For Anonymous members, its easier for them to come online and claim they own heaven and earth. Its easier for them to even claim they are the President of the country. You should have done your homework well before you come up with those lies, just to kill this guy dream.

For those that stay in Abuja, help me count from today and tomorrow number of Peugeot 306 you find on Abuja road. Even this morning, I counted 2 306 on the road while coming back from Church. I know how many people have brought to me to troubleshoot. Quite a number of 306 are on Abuja road. If they are not getting the parts, how come they keep on the road? But as someone who is into this brand, I would advice anyone interested in 306 to go for one with XU7 (1.8 L) and XU10 (2.0 L) engines, since the parts are very much available. Going for those with 1.4 litre will pose a challenge when something goes wrong with the engine, because something must go wrong someday.

70%, if not more, of shops at Gudu spare markets sells Peugeot parts, both new and used. At APO, we have London Line for European cars, Benz line, Japanese line and Honda Line. What about Peugeot? Peugeot has 3 lines all to itself. The France line, the 406 line 1, and 406 line 2. Yet someone is telling us from there that Peugeot parts are scare in Nigeria. Isn't that interesting?

Now, this sounds like a low fuel pressure symptom.

If you can't find where to test the fuel pressure with a proper tool, I would suggest you swap in another fuel pump and see what happens. Your mechanic should be able to get a pump to do the test.

But before that, check and make sure the fuel line(s) under the car is not damaged. Because a bent fuel line will reduce the fuel pressure.

Failing or faulty MAF could do that, likewise weak upstream sensor. But I would start with the fuel pressure, if I were you.

NewIdeas: @ikenna351.thanks my bros for that wonderfu contribution.its quite encouraging.
Now, let's go down the technical.

From knowledge I have gathered so far working on 306, their electrics are the same with phase I 406 (D8). Less electrics, which makes them easy to troubleshoot.

Only annoying thing is accessibility of sensors on the engine. Some sensors are mounted where its difficult to access easily. It can be very annoying sometimes. Though, that shouldn't be your headache, since you may not be doing the repair yourself, unless you plan to do that.

Like I said earlier, would suggest you look for one with either XU7 or XU10 engine. It will look like sitting a 406 (D8) with different body.

Phase I 607 V6 (1999-2004) has VAN-bus system, just like in early D9. 607 V6 phase 1 has manual transmission option (5-speed). The engine is the ES9 engine in D9 V6.

Phase II 607 has slight change on the exterior look, especially front bumpers. The phase 2 has CAN-bus system in late D9 and 407. All phase II 607 V6 have 6-speed Auto transmission (AM6); Phase II V6 has no manual option.

Mpg, highway, gives about 37 mpg.

Attached below are phase I 607 interior.

NewIdeas: Pls do anyone have any positive thing to say about peugeot 306 wagon because i so much love the design shape
I am Surprised you didn't see the tdie's post. Or you didn't consider what he posted as positive? His post summarized everything. What beats first hand experience?

Now, I didn't state anything negative about the Peugeot 306 SW either. I only said of you are staying in Abuja, available of parts will pose a big challenge to you. I know because I fix Peugeots in Abuja as part job and Peugeot spare market is my 2nd office and the Peugeot spare parts dealers (both new & used) are my colleagues sort of, as well. So the parts are not as common as other Peugeots.

But why do you care about peoples negative about the car in this thread? Why allow dream killers kill your dreams or stop you from achieving your goal in life? You desire to own a Peugeot 306 SW, what stopping for going for the car?

You see, I expected you to ask for the pros & annoyances of the car, from people who have used the car, currently owned the car or have knowledge of the car. And not what Nairaland members feel about something a car. I mean, seriously?

Let me break it down for you. I appear to be the only guy that drives Peugeot 505 V6 in Abuja town. Do you think the parts are easily available for me in Abuja? Even before I ordered for the car in 2010, I knew I was not going to find the parts in Abuja. But did that stop me from going ahead with the purchase? No. Do you know how much I paid for that car? 800k. Yes, Eight hundred thousand naira only, in 2010. Crazy, right? Why? I was madly in love with the car. So what the world thinks about the car meant nothing to me. Why? Because, I would be the one to sit in it and drive behind the wheel; the papers will bear my name & responsibility of keeping the car on the road and in good rest on me, not my colleagues, siblings, loved ones or the world. So why the heck should anyones opinion about the car means anything to me? I knew what my colleagues said about the car when it arrived my place; I knew what some of my friends said at that time. But guess what. All them that had cars at that time, even those mine came before them, they have all replaced their cars they had that time. Some replaced their engines or transmissions twice before they got rid of them after given them series of headaches. What about the 505 V6? How many times have I replaced the engine since I got her? None. How many times have I replaced the gearbox? None. What about the clutch? None. How many times have I travelled with the car on long trips? I have lost counts. Has the car ever stranded me on any of the journeys? Not at all. The funny things, all those my colleagues and friends saying all those crap about my Baby never even for once done a trip with their cars, yet they have had engine and transmission failures, over and over, before they got rid of them. Now, do you think I should have listened to them?

A man doesn't run away from challenges, because facing challenges makes you a better man and more successfully in life. If you really really want something, damn it and jump in and face whatever that comes up and deal with. You won't know how good or bad it truly is until you risk it. If Mike Adenuga had seeked advice from Nairaland if he should go into Telecommunication, what kind of response do you think he would have gotten from Nairaland, even from close ones? A lot of people would have people would have advised him against investing in such sector in Nigeria, since Nigeria political system is not stable, incase someone comes up tomorrow and revoke his license. Would he be were he is today? One will never progress, when you are always trying to play safe in everything.

If you love the Peugeot 306 SW, then I would suggest you go for one with XU engine, since 405 and 406 had that engine and parts are very much available.

Australians regards Peugeot 306 till date as one of the best handlers Peugeot ever produced. So, beware of dream killers.

FiftyFifty: Hi all,
Oga IK kindly educate me more on Peugeot 607, V6 manual, u know. Thanks.
Before, I was telling veryone who cared to listen that Peugeot 607 was a mistake Peugeot ever made. grin Why? Because i was listening to all the craps people post online about the car. So much negativity! So, I foolishly believed all that.

But now, I authoritatively tell whoever asked, "Peugeot 607 is one of the best Pininfarina Peugeot ever produced".

Before i acquired my then 605 V6, i checked online reviews on the car and the what i got was awful. But few positive comments i found got me thinking, " Why do I have to live my life following the bangwagon?. If the car served some or few people well, why then should I believed it wont serve me well? " Is like your wife who probably dated some guy before you met her. The guy probably ended the relationship because he found her uninteresting and would always see faults in her that didnt exist. But when you met her, she automatically became the best thing ever happened to you till this moment. Yet another man could only see faults. Now, that was when my mindset changed. I jumped in, bought the 605 V6 and enjoyed the car throughout the ownership. All the faults people complained of, I did not experience. Few issues it had during the ownership were simply normal wear and tear of car of that age. The 605 V6 made me realise " DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ!"

With the mindshift and experienced got from the 605 V6, I jumped into 406 V6, irrespective of scary stories about BSI on these Lions. I know how many friends who advised me against getting the car, but i went ahead and achieved my dream. After a year of owning this Lion, I am yet to experience any of those stories dream killers tell the world. Some even claimed after 100,000 km mileage, D9 electrics will start falling apart. My D9 has done over 170, 000 km, yet my electrics is still intact. That someone fails in accomplishing a project he/she set out to do, does not mean I will fail too. That someone abuse his Lion or has poor maintenance culture, which led to his/her poor Lion to give them nightmares, does not mean I am destined to experience that as well.

The choices we made or decisions we took in the past is what led to what we have become or where we are today. Thats why I dont let the crowd, or even close ones, decides for me what I want or desire in life anymore. Becoming an owner of SV D9 made me realize how good the 607 electric is, which is what people are scared of. The only difference between a D9 electrics and 607 electrics is the 607 has mofe gadgets. Aside that, everyother thing is the same. The same VAN-bus system you find in D9 and CAN-bus system you find in 407.

Will come back and explain 607 in details.

For the past few days, quite a number of Nairaland members have switched to Peugeot or added Lions to their cars. I knew because of numerous calls I have received for the past 4 days or so.

I want to congratulate you all for stepping out and going for what you desire, irrespective of dream killers surrounding you, telling you all sorts of negatives about Lions. What interest me was how you all called and informed me how you madly fell in love with your newly acquired Lions, after driving it for some hours or few days. That's what Lions do to their owners, because they are cars with attitudes!

Check point increases on daily basis in Abuja. Funny thing is, I can't recall the last time I was parked to be checked. Yet cars before me or behind me would always be parked, yet I will be passed. Even brand new exotic cars will be parked for check, but I will be passed! Imagine what it feels like? Its called class. Its called levels. Because Lions attitude is why other animals respect them. And that's why Lions are respected at check points because the attitude is written allover them.

I would suggest you work towards owing your PP2000. Its a very important DIY tool for any Lion owner who wants his Lion to remain intact and their claws to remain sharp, as long as it takes. At least, the newer version works on windows 7 32bit, I gathered.

Always remember, the mark of claws you leave behind each time you pass says a lot about you to silent admirers of Lions.

Welcome!

PSA Peugeot Citroën and PAN Nigeria Limited sign an assembly and sale of cars agreement in Nigeria

On Friday, 11 July 2014, PSA Peugeot Citroën and PAN Nigeria Limited signed an assembly and sale of cars agreement in Nigeria.

The first vehicle concerned by the agreement will be the Peugeot 301, the assembly of which will begin in the second half of 2014 at the Kaduna plant.

Under the terms of the agreement, PAN Nigeria Limited will also be able to assemble the Peugeot 508 and the Peugeot 308.

Peugeot will leverage a network of roughly a dozen dealers that will be capable of rapidly implementing the quality standards required by the Brand and supporting its business growth in Nigeria.

The agreement is aligned with the new automotive industry development policy established by the Nigerian government.

Africa’s most populous nation with about 170 million people, and its largest economy with GDP of €372 billion in 2013 and growth of 7.4% forecast for 2014, Nigeria is emerging as a key growth driver at the level of the entire continent.

Commenting on the signature of this new agreement, Jean-Christophe Quémard, Operations Director, Africa-Middle East said: "This assembly agreement perfectly illustrates what the Group aims to achieve with its new region-based organisation. As announced in the “Back in the Race” strategic plan, we are going to focus more on growth markets. The assembly of the Peugeot 301 in Nigeria, a growth pillar in Africa, will enable the Group to take full advantage of growth opportunities in the market."

62 - 70 Ah battery will be ok.

Try Everstart battery. That's what I use and its good, so far.

Nwunuken: yes the check engine light is alway on if the engine is running.
Then I would suggest you scan the car.

Is the Lion in Abuja?

Nwunuken: At idle, RPM stand at 10
1000 rpm at engine optimal temperature is too high, but not high enough to cause the symptom you are experiencing. But if the rpm at 90 degree Celsius coolant temp is 1k, then I would suggest you readjust the throttle stop on the throttle body to reduce the rpm. At engine optimal temp, the rpm should fluctuate between 600 -700.

Does the check engine light remain on when engine starts running?
