I left East in the morning and arrived Abuja about 3 or 4 hours ago. As for the fueling, it consumed about 45 litres of petrol from Abuja to Enugu, likewise Enugu to Abuja. Meaning, i spent only N4,500 in the fueling. Note that Abuja to Enugu is about 500 km. Really impressive!

I love my Lions, because they make my trips interesting.

Btw, i did the trip with my D9 V6 manual.

I thank God for everything.

olamega: Oh Ikenna, I didn't know you travel, I wanted to come and show you my Beemer, anyways that's cool, how's the experience with ur 406 V6?
Fantastic! cool

Doing a journey with a 406 v6 stick is something i find difficult to explain. Where do i start? The more you push, the more stable it becomes and to crown it, more fun. All i was doing behind the wheel was smiling, especially when i was doing some quick overtaking of queue of trucks. I would shift the stick from 5th to 4th or 3rd, push the throttle pedal to the floor and there goes the jet! cool

I can't wait to hit the road back to Abuja again.

kenyarttar: Ikenna351 you sound hot headed and boastful. Possibly because our Oga Siena said he liked manual. But may i remind you that he also said

Meaning he's a super man!

Which also means Auto's were created to make driving more pleasurable, so yes they are generally a technological improvement on the average over manuals.

I say once again, life is short no time for long thing. "Learn with a manual then switch to Auto". Peace!
However you define me makes no meaning to me. But what i find interesting is what you said about me making those comments because Siena liked manual transmission. Am sorry disappoint you, because am not one of the zombies that suck up to people or have no mind of their own by playing solidarity just to be associated with someone.

You need to pay attention in Car Talk, if you care, because it's obvious you really don't know me. I jumped because Siena jumped indeed !

Earlier in the thread, i posted my observation about Nigerians and auto transmission; about how someone wanted to crash my car because gear 1 meant "Park" to him, after more than 5 years of driving; made a suggestion what should be used or taught in driving schools. I didn't come to this thread to debate manual vs auto transmissions or why you chose to drive auto tranny. I didn't consult Nairaland while choosing my current Lions and the one i have had. So am not interested or here to debate why you chose auto tranny over manual. So please, spare me your "Life is short".

abatically: Driving schools in Nigeria don't teach with auto tranny, they all use manual to teach.
I wonder which Nigeria you were referring to? The one on planet Earth or maybe one in Pluto? Because am sure it's not the Nigeria on Earth.

Driving schools in Nigeria don't teach with auto tranny indeed!

Car TalkRe: Reasons Why Real Men Still Drive Stick Cars .....manual by Ikenna351(m):
In Australia, anyone that learns how to drive with auto tranny car only will be given partial driver's licence. Meaning, you are not allowed to drive a manual tranny car with the partial licence (have forgotten the name they call the partial licence ). For such a person to start driving manual tranny, he/she will have to undergo another training with manual transmission. He/she will be tested and will granted th full driver's licence, to allow him/her to drive manual transmission cars on public roads.

But any Australian that learns how to drive with manual tranny, he will be issued full driver's licence, to drive both auto and manual cars.

Not long ago, someone wanted to start my 406 v6, to hear how the engine note is. I was standing beside the car. Suddenly , the car started jerking forward while he was cranking the engine. And there was a car parked in front. I had to rush into the car to pull the hand brake, which if i had not done that, my car would have rear end the car in front. Guess what happened ? The guy attempted to start the car while the 1st gear was still engaged. Because to him, he thought it was in "Park", just like the auto trannies. This guy owns and have driven his auto tranny car for more than 5 years, yet he couldn't start a manual tranny car. I get it, he should still be called a driver because he can move the steering wheel while car is in motion. Talk about who is a true driver!

If i were Federal govt, I would make it compulsory for driving schools to teach with manual tranny for the 1st 3 weeks, and conclude the lesson with auto tranny the 4th week. A lot of driving skills are imbibed when learning how to drive with stick cars.

Ninilowo: OP is a typical Nigerian that fail to move with technology. Something is designed to ease off stress and you ve turned it to a device for lazy fellows. If you are so strong then you dont need to drive around just make use of your legs. Too dogmatic and allergic to change!
"move with technology" huh

We can really be ignorant, and the worst part is that we gloat with it. So many times, you read Nigerian comments here how some people have refused to adapt to change; to something new, by refusing to switch to auto tranny, while they stick to manual tranny. Then i would ask, "since when did auto transmission become new technology"?

Peugeot 404 was produced in 1960 with both manual tranny and 3-speed auto tranny (ZF). Now, what makes something that has been in existence since the '60s new? Let's not forget that Peugeot would likely not be the first car manufacturer that introduced car with auto tranny. Meaning, auto tranny would likely be in existence before 1960. So, what "moving with technology " are we talking about? Or do you think the manual transmission in the '60s is the same with present manual trannies, no improvement ? I would suggest we stop embarrassing ourselves before the foreigners that visit this section as guest, with ridiculous information.

icemann: Really. So you are saying dropping our books would do more good for us? You keep saying Turbo engines are not economical please prove with a logical explanation, otherwise stay silent and accept a worldwide proven fact.

He was trying to describe a propeller(hence talking of the blades)and something else you called "bla bla bla" .

I noticed in most replies you keep referencing your 504 or 505 and most times you are fixing it or having some one fix it. Its say a lot about how unreliable that car is. So with all this "i am fixing my car" memories/incidences you still stuck with Peugeot and the disappointments it has given you? shocked shocked

Like i always say " No matter how you see it ever fan is a sucker"
Am really disappointed with your comment about, especially "how unreliable Peugeot 504 & 505 are". Couldn't imagine such statements could come from you.

How unreliable a Peugeot 504 GL bought brand new in 1976 by my father, is. Simply because it had a failed propeller shaft in 2002/2003, after been driven on Nigerian road for more than 26 years old, still having the original engine. What an irony!

How unreliable my Baby is? Peugeot 505 V6, a 1986 production, that still takes me to any part of the country and brings me back without a cough? Really? How unreliable she is?

Am really disappointed, honestly.

Notwithstanding, why not bring those your Toyotas and Honda to Nigeria and lets see how they will hold up together, after driven hard on Nigerian roads for just a year. Of course, the "Honda Surprise " is not your portion, because your Honda is different from others in Nigeria that have proven how reliable their front swivels can be on Nigerian roads. And may be the ever frequent failing dampers of Toyotas driven on Nigerian road is not your portion, because yours was not produced with balloon like others. Talking about durability!

Back then in the East, the frequent failure of CV joints of Japs made the mechanics to start converting the Japs drive shafts with Renault & Peugeot ones, since the French cars CV joints appeared indestructible. It got to a point, the French cars CV joints and/or drive shafts became scarce commodities in the East back then. And you are here telling me how "unreliable " Peugeots are, compared to your Japs. Wonders shall never end.

Why not ask Peugeot owners in Nigeria how many times they have replaced their front ball joints, CV joints and shock absorbers, of all the long years of ownerships of their Lions? Likewise, ask the Toyota and Honda owners the same and lets find out which of the car brands are so unreliable and not durable.

Next time, however you want to impress Nairaland members of cars you drive, speak of what you know.

KA24DETT: Boss, I think what he's trying to say is that turbocharged engine is more efficient than an NA engine( more power from same displacement) Yes, turbocharged is more expensive to build and requires more plumbings than an NA engine.
With advances in technology and reliability, most turbocharged engines require little to no maintenance than a non turbocharged one.
He said "more economical ", and not "more efficient ". They are two different things in automobile, as far as am concerned.

Rudebwoy: I have a Peugeot 406 Automatic V6, when in drive mode the car drops out of drive then might shoot back in again and the indicator for the drive postion on the dashboard shows the sports and winter postioning flashing. Sometimes although you can select the drive position nothing will happen but if you rev the car it picks up.

Two days ago, I noticed there's oil in the radiator tank which the mechanic told me it's a fault where the gearbox oil is mixing with radiator water. I immediately bought two tins of gear oil and topped pending when I will repair it after new year.

Just yesterday ( Sunday ) the stopped moving. I don't know of it's the gear or the shaft.

Please help.
It's possible your transmission has packed up. Or renewing the transmission fluid with the right fluid may fix the issue.

Since your 406 is V6, the auto gearbox will be 4HP20.

About your issue, unfortunately, i really don't know any good Peugeot mechanic in Lagos i can vouch for and recommend for someone. If it were in Abuja, i have someone that i recommend to Peugeot owners for mechanical repairs.

Let's hope house members that live in Lagos would be of help to you.

1. It's likely that your Camshaft and crankshaft sprokets were not properly timed, whenI the new belt was thread in. I would suggest you take it to someone that knows what he is doing to re-do the timing belt.

2. Also, it depends on your engine : interference or non interference. Whats the state of the intake and exhaust valves after the the belt failure ?

Car TalkRe: What Is A Turbo Charged Engine? by Ikenna351(m):
gbonsalifus: A turbocharged or supercharged engine is more economical than a non turbocharged one. Now, the problem is with the definition of fuel economy and fuel efficiency.
Auto enthusiasts use the two expressions interchangeably but in engineering, there is a little difference. While Economy puts the cost/price of achieving the output into consideration, efficiency only considers the unit ratio of input to output of a particular system like 'fuel' for example. Can't say it all here, I should write about this on my blog soon.
for those who can comprehend, consider a Nissan GTR vs Audi R8. Also, a Bugatti Veyron vs Koenniseg Agera in relation to this topic Efficiency vs economy'.
Chech out 101carsense..com soon for a detailed talk.
For anyone to say turbo engine is more economical to run than NA engine is laughable. Sometimes, you guys really need to drop those your books and get practical.

Back then in Awka, our Peugeot 504 GL propeller shaft failed and also damaged the input spline of the rear differential. While a mechanic was replacing them, a friend came, who was in 400 level, Mechanical Engineering. He pointed at a long pipe and asked me what it was. I told him it was Propeller Shaft. The guy said no, that i was wrong. That it wouldn't be the propeller shaft of the car. I asked why would he say so. He said the drawings of propeller shaft in his books all had fan on one end and bla bla bla. Even when he left, the mechanic who was silent and looked confused all those while the argument was going on asked me " So, is this what they teach you guys in Schools?"

Before, Peugeot turbo engines suffered from cracked cylinder heads, compared to their NA engines. I don't know if the problem has been corrected in their modern turbo engines.

Generally, cost of running turbo engine is higher than that of Naturally Aspirited engine, of the same number of cylinders.

Sorry, am not in Abuja right now. I travelled and have been busy behind the wheel since yesterday. Lol!

As for your radio issue. Honestly, i have no idea what could be the cause. Of course, what would come to mind is disconnection from roof Aerial. But since you said you have checked and it was connected, then i can't think of any other thing. Unless the radio FM in your Lion was designed to work only in Mars, not Earth. grin

PP2000 should have indicated the cause all those while you have been scanning the lion with pp2000, unless you didn't bother to check if the radio ECU had presence of fault during Global scan.

Like we have just discussed on the phone, the new fan was a wrong one for your 407 EW12, which led them to connect the fan wrongly, hence, non-stopping of the fan spinning.

Get the EW series fan in 407 and the problem will go away.

Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(op):
wisesystem: Travelled to Jos for the holidays with my 406 ew7. cool drive for most part of the journey, blessing my choice of a manual drive. Met my albatross just before Forest when on high speed a team of goats entered the high way. Not wanting to brake abruptly for fear of the cars behind me , I slowed down considerable but still ran over one of them. I continued my trip without stopping not wanting any local trouble from villagers who wont understand anything about highway regulations. I stopped at Forest to buy some fruits for my folks and after about 5mins, was greeted by an alarm with the Instrument panel reading COOLANT TEMPERATURE TOO HIGH. I immediately took off for some yards and parked. I called Ikenna and told him what was happening and after a lot of questions , he asked if my fan was working and only then did I realise that the impact with the goat had affected my fan. on Ikenna's advised I ensured I maintained a speed of not less than 80km per hour which landed me home and try with some scares during brief hold ups.
D next day I managed the car to a Peugeot Electrician and against all my fears of replacing my car fan, I ended up replacing only a fuse and my car fan got rolling.

@ Ikenna, the fuse that got burned as you would see in the pictures beneath was marked 40, while the one the Electritian used to replaced was marked 50. when i asked him he insisted it didnt matter but av learnt not to take all the dish out...

My Lesson Learned: Always stop to check your car if you ever run over an animal on the high way , but pls give youself and the villagers some distance.
pics below
I believe the fuse is located in the BSM, right? You can always get fuse you want from Peugeot used parts shops or even from the new ones.

You were so lucky that your right fog light was intact. Judging from the number plate, one could tell which side that hit the goat. A set of D9 Fog lights cost between 15-25k, depending on the grade (follow come). Unfortunately, they sell them in pairs, not single.

We thank God for everything.
