BluStreak: During my check to ascertain why my car temperature rises way above half - about 3/4 on the temp dial, I found out that, my radiator upper and lower hose get warm at the same time meaning their is flow of water the moment the engine starts running. Does it mean there is no thermostat in the car? Ordinarily, I expected one side to remain cold since the thermostat stands as a barrier to hold back the flow of coolant pending when the car has reached operating temperature. You didn't state your vehicle or brand. For Peugeots, below is the simplest method of testing presence, absence, failed or working thermostat, without bringing it out from the thermostat housing/cooling system: http://www.peugeotowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8 Ikenna |
tyoseni: Why not remove the hose to physically confirm if the thermostat is present. For your theory, assume the thermostat is stock open it is as good as the thermostat is remove. Not necessary. Ikenna |
Onosy: I went out to check out with mechanics today if I can get d O ring from a thermostat de av removed n some wer like wat do I still need a thermostat for.....it was only one mechanic dat ask if I needed it for heat boast......I just said to myself dat u know there s something called heat boast needed in d engine n yet u advise people to remove their thermostat....Lol! https://www.nairaland.com/1006388/camry-99-thermostat-removal/1 Ikenna |
itsmreldorado: @Ikenna. Thanks again, if I may ask you which of them(307/407) will be cheaper to maintain.307. Ikenna |
I worked on this car for a lady the other day, for an injection issue I later resolved. A very nice mini van to drive. Power is moderate for the size. The auto transmission shifted smoothly all through while I took it for a drive, even though I wasn't impressed (my thing with auto transmission anyway). One thing I don't like about the car is the location of the air filter. I wonder what they were thinking when they put the filter box in that location. Probably they were drinking French wine when they designed the air intake system. Lol! Another good thing I like about the car is there are so many hidden boxes in the car where you can hide something and no one will see it. I mean, the hidden boxes are so hidden and secured that you can millions in that car and thief won't even know 10 kobo dey inside the car. Lol! Simple, its a good French car. At least, it shares few parts with Peugeot, like fuel filter, etc. Ikenna. |
itsmreldorado: @Ikenna. Thanks a lot for the info I find it wow, is 307 and 407 same apart from their sizes?307 & 407 are complete different Lions. 307 gadgets are no way close to gadgets in 407, depending on the spec, year model or badge. Notwithstanding, both cars have CAN-bus, especially the late 307. Both cars use electric PAS Pump (power assisted steering), especially the facelifted models of both cars, not the mechanical PAS pump on older Lions. Though, the 407 V6 have the conventional mechanical PAS pump (not sure of series 2). All 407 V6 have Variable Power steering (Speed sensitive steering), while some 307, irrespective of engine, have the variable Power steering. All 407 V6 have variable shock absorbers (speed sensitive), while 307 have none. 407 is a mid or full size family car. while 307 is small-sized family car (more like a city car or compact one). So you don't expect both to have the same features. And most importantly, you don't expect to derive the same comfort in both. Ikenna |
itsmreldorado: @Ikenna thanks for the info I find them very useful. I want to go for a Peugeot 407 2006 saloon but I don't have any knowledge about it. I will need some education in this regards407 is as good as its predecessor, 406. But just like 406, it has its peculiar issues. 1. 407 has 2 ball joints on each front wheels, unlike the 406 that has the conventional one ball joint on each wheel. 407 has upper and lower ball joints. Unfortunately, the lower joints seem to fail, unlike the 406 one that is indestructible. So, you need to look out for signs of failure and replace them once they come. The signs would be pronounced. So don't panic. They don't give up like the Honda Accord. Otherwise, you would have been seeing them pulling off on the roads like the Honda Accords do on daily basis on our roads. Fortunately, the upper ball joints of 407 remain intact, even as the lower ones fail. The lower joints carry most of the load, not the upper one. Some claimed they fail as a result of the design of the wheel hub. Fortunately, the error was corrected in face lifted 407 (series 2), 2008 - 2010 models. 2. The nose. Be careful were you steer the nose (front end) into. Otherwise, you end up replacing your bumper or repairing it every now and then Aside these 2 above, that is, if you can live with the above headaches, then you will find it an interesting Lion to own. Vitality22, You made it sound as if there is something wrong with OEM used parts (tokunbo). If not, why not buy a brand new engine or auto gearbox when yours fail. Or you think engine and auto box are not car parts? Back then, sometime in 1999, the charging system cut-out (external) of my dad's Peugeot 504 GL I was using then failed. I bought a used new one (Nigerian used). It didn't last a month sef! Back then, a new one (aftermarket, though) cost N1,400. But I went again for a used one, this time, a tokunbo. I bought it N300. Since then, the cut-out worked perfectly from that 1999 - 2012 when my father called me one day and suggested he sell the car since I was no longer available to be using the car. How many years between 1999 - 2012, which the tokunbo cut- out served us? In the same 504, it had a clutch release bearing that was indestructible, mostly found in foreign produced 504 GL then, just like ours. But the type used in PAN produced 504s and 505s was not as durable as the type in imported ones, new or used. People were now scampering for the used type in our 504 which was never available in new. My father said he never replaced it till I took over the car from him. He bought the car brand new in 1977 and we never replaced the throw-out bearing till 2012 the car left the family. That type of clutch release bearing was a scarce commodity back then. A used one that can last lifespan of a car, if you are lucky to find one. Unfortunately, it has its own clutch fork different from some PAN spec. Meaning, if your clutch fork won't match that throw-out bearing, you will have to replace the bell housing with the one that matches the clutch fork and throw-out bearing in our 504. In 2011, I bought oxygen sensor for my Baby at the price of 17k. It was Bosch, new OEM. It works perfectly, even till this moment. But now, what you will find in Abuja Peugeot shops is one fake brand, TK, which cost 7-10k, depending on your bargaining power. Does it work? No. Fortunately, it works when used as downstream sensors, but doesn't work for upstream sensors, which it was designed for in the first place. Meaning, to now get a good new oxygen sensors for Peugeots, you either buy online or empty your bank account at Peugeot dealerships. A friend bought a new oxygen sensor and swapped in. It didn't work. He bought a used one, removed the new one and mounted the used one and it worked. Now, do you think he will listen to you when you preach to him "Buy new parts instead because its better" ? By the way, it must not be new OEM. As your car gets older, new OEM will go out of production. Aftermarket is what you will find in the market. OEM does not mean its better than aftermarket. Sometimes, aftermarkets are better than OEM in quality which cost more than aftermarket. All you need is to find out which aftermarket, which is cheaper than OEM, is as good as OEM or even better, that is if Nigerians have not started bringing the fake ones. Even in western world, most of them buy used parts from junkyards. Its not a Nigerian thing. Only risk there is, you will have to install it in your car to know if it still work, for some parts that can't be tested or tell from appearance. I could go on and on. The fact is, OEM used (tokunbo) parts would last you beyond your expectation, if its still good. Problem is ability to identify a true (tokunbo) parts, not a Nigerian used parts disguised as tokunbo. Some of us into Auto business know people that sells genuine tokunbo parts. All you need is ask, and we will direct or recommend you to them or teach you how to identify some of these tokunbo parts from Nigerian used New ones, etc. Ikenna. |
elbashyr: I will like to inform this highly intelligent forum that i have lunched a lion,Congrats! That's a clean Lion you got there. Ikenna |
oladele007: thanks Oga ikenna, so what do u suggest i should do now? and can u get the original number of the ECU for me? here is the chassis number of the car VF38BLFY880006694 Maybe i should replace it with the original one, am in france now so that i can buy it here. Will look up for the injection ECU part number tomorrow morning. But would likely find Peugeot part number instead, not the ECU brand part number. Will see how it goes. Ikenna |
vivaciousvivi: sweetheart, I drive a 2010 Peugeot 407. if you like, quote 2000 model or 1969 model that are no longer in production, I can authoritatively state that Peugeot is NOT fuel efficient. And btw, this happens to be not my first or second car so I have compared brands. I have driven Honda and 1 corolla. The fuel consumption levels as compared with Peugeot are staggering. vivaciousvivi: Excuse u, the cars I "claim" to drive or have driven? are you alright!? Oga, please go and meet the person that offended you wherever you met that person. Not everybody on Naira land are aggressive or abusive in order to put their points across and I definitely am not one of them.Read your above posts and see why i made those statements. Please, forgive me. I wasnt insulting you. if you felt that in my last post, I am sorry. I just needed to point out how wrong you were. So, we are good, right? Ikenna |
vivaciousvivi: sweetheart, I drive a 2010 Peugeot 407. if you like, quote 2000 model or 1969 model that are no longer in production, I can authoritatively state that Peugeot is NOT fuel efficient. And btw, this happens to be not my first or second car so I have compared brands. I have driven Honda and 1 corolla. The fuel consumption levels as compared with Peugeot are staggering. You can AUTHORITATIVELY state that Peugeot is not fuel efficient because you claimed you drive a Peugeot 407 2010 production? Wow! Isn't that interesting! Is very unfortunate how ignorant some of us can be, sometimes. So you are now comparing Toyota Corolla to Peugeot 407? What on Earth would make you think the fuel consumption of the two would be the same? As small as Corolla is and as big as 407 is, the consumption must be the same? Isn't that interesting! Some people would drive Kia Picanto today. Tomorrow they find themselves in a family sized car with V6 or V8 engine and would expect the fuel consumption to be the same. I had expected you to be specific as I was, by stating at least the basic spec of the 407, Corolla and Honda cars you compared in your post. No engine type, size or cylinders? Is that really all you know about cars? Only God knows the injection state of these cars you claimed you own or have owned. Only God knows which of them still have their thermostat still present and fans still factory connected. But then, You Can AUTHORITATIVELY State Peugeot cars are fuel guzzlers. Peugeot 106, 107, 206, 207, 208, 301, 307, 308, 308 R, 406, 407, 408, 508, 607, 807, 2008, 3008, 4008, RCZ, RCZ R, etc. They are all gas guzzlers, isn't it? But all Toyotas, including Avalon and Toyota SUVs are very fuel efficient compared to Peugeot cars, isn't it? Bravo! Ikenna |
vivaciousvivi: I wasn't aware that PAN had revived their assembly plant. good move though if the so called automotive police works out and the cars are made affordable. however Peugeot have been known to be overpriced despite the influx of cheaper and more efficient Asian brands. and their fuel consumption levels are horrible. I should knowMy current 1986 production, Peugeot 505 V6 5-speed manual with ZN3J engine, 170 hp, averaged 22 mpg from Abuja to Enugu (about 500 km), on my last trip with the Baby to East from Abuja (about 68 litres - N6,000 +). A/C on throughout the journey. Also, my current 2000 production, Peugeot 406 V6 5-speed manual, with ES9J4S engine, 210 hp, averaged 39 mpg (about 40 litres - N4,000 +) from the same Abuja to Enugu which is about 500 km,on A/C all through the journey. Now, help us explain, with my above Lions fuel consumptions, how Peugeot cars are fuel guzzlers? Better still, can you share with us how many V6s of other brands of the same production years have achieved such fuel economy? Could you share your personal experience to prove your assertion that Peugeot cars are fuel guzzlers? Ikenna |
oladele007: thanks Oga Ikenna, pls whats the meaning of BSI and stealing.BSI: Built-In System Interface. It's a module that controls every electronics or electrical and all ECUs in modern Lions. If a Lions BSI dies, nothing will work in the car. Ikenna |
lonelydora: Infact, I am considering to join u as a Lion owner. As soon as you jump in, the only thing others would see are your claws, as they follow you from behind. Always remember, Lions are the most respected animal because of their attitude, not because they are the strongest animals. That you will start enjoying when you join the Lion family. Ikenna |
lonelydora: Ikenna351, hope u r happy now?If you stay in Abuja, you would have known that every 5 mins you stay on Abuja road, a Peugeot 301 must have passed. Peugeot cars have already taken over Abuja city roads, both brand new and tokunbo or used. Nigerians have started getting bored of all these uninspiring looking and boring moving vehicles. The Lions got some attitude others don't give behind the wheels. Who wouldn't want that? So, you were saying? ![]() Ikenna |
Piyke: Its perfectly normal see link belowOk. Ikenna |
fidinwala: good day IKWith the new import tariff increment, things have changed. Price won't be the same. Ikenna |
oladele007: its 1996 old model 406. thanksNo wonder. That's the disadvantage of using a Non BSI Peugeot. Because an injection ECU coded to work with a BSI is useless outside that vehicle. So need of stealing it in the first place. Unfortunately, I don't know any good Peugeot specialist in Lagos. You know Lagos don't drive Peugeot that much. Ikenna |
Last month, I Drove into NNPC fuel station at Zone 1, Wuse (not mega station) to refuel. Saw a guy who just bought a fuel in a white can on one of the pumps. The fuel color was dark red, meaning Lead fuel (bad for EFI system). I quickly turned round and drove out. Unfortunately, I have been buying fuel from that station. Never knew what I was buying until that day. Now my 2 upstream sensors of my SV D9 are dead. Reason has become obvious to me. Ikenna |
silvoice: yesThen its safe. Nothing wrong with it. Ikenna |
Sometimes, experience works better than profession in tackling some issue. In your case, experience is what needs to be applied to get it fixed. That's why an old experienced driver would always know what could be a culprit when a car starts acting up, more than some mechanics. Because he must have had that symptom and got it sorted over and over again. It's the reason I always tell people to stay and find out or ask your mechanic what caused the issue when it has been fixed. Always insist to know, its your right. Sometimes, I would threaten to find another person, if he is not ready to disclose what he did to my car. Op, if you have not done what Kashif suggested, then properly diagnose the brake system, which is what your mechanic would have done instead of replacing the master cylinder in the first place. Take out the brake pipes on the master cylinder and watch. Does the cylinder bleed itself? If not, take out the master cylinder from the brake booster (servo). Leave the hydraulic reservoir attached. Fill up the reservoir with water and watch the openings for brake pipes. Is water flowing from those openings now (bleeding itself)? If yes, put the cylinder back on the booster, tight it back on the booster and fill it up a little and watch if it still bleed itself. If yes, you have found your culprit. Bad hydraulic. Remove the cylinder, pour out water and refight it on the booster. Go and buy a good expensive brake hydraulic that is as light as water, fill up the cylinder, bleed and your brake is back. All these nonsense brake hydraulic in the mechanic will end up making your brake master stopped working. They are as thick as engine oil. TOTAL HB 4 is the best brake hydraulic I ever used. It looks like water when you pour it out and does perfect job when in brake systems. It cost about 600 - 700 (don't remember the exact amount). You will get it at any TOTAL fuel station. To bleed the brake wheels, don't pump your pedals. Doing that could damage those rubbers in the master cylinder. Just loose the 4 nipples on the calipers/drums, pour in the hydraulic and gradually, the old bad hydraulic will be pushed out by the new one on the whole brake systems. The TOTAL hydraulic HB 4 is white in color (just like water), while those fake ones are either red or yellowish in colors. So as soon as white hydraulic starts coming out on each of the wheels, then that line has been replaced fully with new hydraulic. Gradually or slowly tighten the nipple. Do the same on the remaining 3 wheels. It means you have flushed the system. If properly done, you may not need to pump the brake and bleed (conventional method of bleeding brake). But, you can still bleed with the conventional method, after you have carried the first procedure I mentioned. In this case, you won't have to pump more than twice on each wheel while bleeding, since almost the whole air trapped in has been earlier pushed out. If there is no leakage in your brake system, your hydraulic level doesn't drop, then the hydraulic is usually the culprit. Flush the system with good new hydraulic and the problem is gone. Don't waste your money replacing the master cylinder when you have not ruled out the hydraulic. ** Note that for Peugeot cars with ABS and ESP brake systems, the brake must be bled electronically/electrically That is, it has to be bled with PP2000. If not, air will remain trapped in ESP control unit. Conventional bleed method doesn't work on these systems. Ikenna |
Raymondenyi: Tnx boss; 4 ur time in going tru, n giving me ur thoughts; my issue is; colleaagues, strongly discouraged me 4rm getting matrix; I was told its a feminine car, for ladies, dat corolla is d better ride 4me; so I 'm tending 2wrds dat...Don't take it the wrong way, but its high time you became your own man. Seeking colleagues opinion on issues like this is the last thing I would do. I Don't revolve my whole life in my office building. The way I see it, some cars would make ladies very sexy or "You can try your luck". While some cars would make ladies behind their wheels "I am taken or Save your strength". So, yes, some car designs gives women that feminine touch men find attractive, no matter how you want to argue it. Because some cars look Teddy Bears to me. Notwithstanding, don't take my opinion as your choice. It does not mean I know better. Because what I like would always appear better to me. It doesn't mean its a better option. It's left for you to find yours. Go out there, spend few minutes and watch cars pass your street. Imagine how you would feel or be seen sitting behind the wheels of the two cars you are interested in, as they pass by. Check out the colours and think which color appeal to you on which car. Then, ask "What are the cons and pros of Vehicle A". Or you google it. If you can live with the cons and find the pros interesting, then you have find the car to buy; you have made the choice. The topic should been "What are the pros and cons of vehicle A and Vehicle B", and not "Help me make a choice between vehicle A and Vehicle B" or "vehicle A vs Vehicle B, which one is better". Peoples definition of reliability, durability and economical differ. So find out from the pros and cons your own definition of these terms and make that choice yourself. Ikenna |
Piyke: 1500 is right on spec, it then gradually drops to 750-800rpm once the car reaches operating temperatureAre you sure that 1500 rpm at cold start is your car spec? Because none of my Lions have ever gone beyond 1k rpm at cold start, no matter how cold coolant or weather is. My ES9J4S would gradually drop and stays at 600 - 650 rpm, while my ZN3J will drop to 750 rpm and stays there. Unless Honda injection/ignition system is that different, anyway. Ikenna |
silvoice: is it wrong to test ur gears by shifting from 1 to 5 while d car is off?I don't understand. You mean while car is stationary and engine off? Ikenna |
oladele007: good day Oga Ikenna, do u have any expert in peugoet 406 like u in lagos that u can recommend for me, am still have problem with the charging system, sometime it charge and sometime it will not charge, i have change many alternators, belt and the wires that connected to the alternator is change too. i dont know maybe brain box can cause the the problem cos i changed the brain box when the original one was stolen. pls help me. the car is giving me headache.Your ECU was stolen? Seriously? By the way, what model? D8 or D9? Ikenna |
silvoice: sorry ooh! Jus asking: holding d clutch down to d floor and holding it partially to avoid stalling, while stationary on hold up: which one wears d clutch out faster. Are u suggesting we put it in neutral each time? Or to off engine each time? silvoice: you'v not answered d question, oga ikennaI answered one of the questions you asked, and not that I didnt answer the question. silvoice: sorry ooh! Jus asking: holding d clutch down to d floor and holding it partially to avoid stalling, while stationary on hold up: which one wears d clutch out faster. Are u suggesting we put it in neutral each time? Or to off engine each time?If you must use your clutch or touch the clutch pedal while engine is running, you must depress the clutch pedal fully. I mean, the clutch pedal must touch the floor. Dpressing it half way would gradually damage the clutch pressure plate. And depending on the rpm, could also wear off/burn the clutch plate/disc faster. Your gearbox input spline may not like that as well. Ikenna |
silvoice: sorry ooh! Jus asking: holding d clutch down to d floor and holding it partially to avoid stalling, while stationary on hold up: which one wears d clutch out faster. Are u suggesting we put it in neutral each time? Or to off engine each time?Put it in Neutral whenever the car is not moving in the next 5 seconds, while engine is running, when at idle, hold up or traffic light. Ikenna |
