king406: I can't get the VIN number because the car is at kaduna, and I'm in abuja, but the car was a V6 because I checked the engine, I have a picture of it too!
I am not doubting whether its V6 or not. I only wanted you to know that "prestige" you called it is wrong. V6 is V6. Prestige is Inline-4. So if it has a prestige badge on it, then it was stamped in Nigeria.

Like i said earlier, PAN didnt produce V6 406. Prestige is PAN 406. Maybe other countries other than Nigeria had prestige 406 as well, but not Europe, i think.y

king406: please if u can help me find the right specifications of my 207 I would really appreciate, I bought it from a friend and I donno what engine is in the car, its a 2007 model, I4 (don't knw the displacement), 5speed manual, this is not a common car so its very hard to know the engine, but from the sound of the engine I think its a turbo engine, there is nothing written on the engine or any badge on the body of the car, it has a large single exhaust pipe, I can post pictures of it if u need it, and u know how peugeot sell their hatchbacks, there is trendi, sport, GTi, SW, I've searched google so many times but fail to find the right car and engine spec, thanks @ikenna351
Post or text me the VIN. With that, i can post what engine is in that engine bay.

You may want to consider reposting this in Peugeot thread, so that we dont derail this thread.

I forgot to mention.

After the Lion owners meeting yesterday, i drove to a Business partners house for another brief meeting, entirely off Car thing. Lol!

But i got shocked with what i saw and heard when i entered their house. They were having kind of family reunion thing. My Business partner has 407 V6, which i knew already. But i saw Lions everywhere in the compound. When i asked how come, he started pointing at them one after the other saying, " This one belongs to my mother, this 2 belongs to my elder brother, etc. As if that was not enough, when i met the elder brother, he said he plans to add 407 V6 phase II to the 2 Lions he already own, after seeing what his brother's 407 V6 could do, probably.

Honestly, I used to think na only me be Lion freak. But that yesterday, i met Lion freak family. Lol! In fact, it was really a big Lions family reunion, with my presence there as well.

Car TalkRe: Peugeot Owners Meet: Abuja by Ikenna351(op):
Beforw now, i found out that more than half of Peugeot owners in Abuja that have been calling and bringing their Lions to me to diagnose dont even know such thing like Nairaland exist, let alone visit the forum. Unfortunately i couldnt invite them for yesterday's meeting because the flyer came out very late and most of them are not on WhatsApp. I could only send the soft copy of the flyer to few that were on WhatssApp and someothers on Nairaland.

Will do my best to let more Peugeot Owners in Abuja be aware of such program, which i already started today.

Also, because of how it went yesterday, if someone could drove from Kaduna to Abuja to attend the meeting, then its my responsibility to make sure the meeting holds every Saturday as stated. To do that, i have decided to start charging some fees for the PP2000 Scan session after each meeting, for anyone interested. With that, i will have no reason not to keep the meeting running, since the venue is paid for. So that i wont have to give excuses it couldnt hold because i could no longer afford to hire the place, even for once. The fee from the scan should at least go along way go cover for that.

So, the PP2000 session/scan at the Saturday's meeting will no longet be free, to keep the program running. Thanks.

kablooee: any update from the event?
The program is not a Car display show. Its a discussion forum where all listed on the flyer are carried out or discussed.

As for Peugeot Festival day, we will discuss that in subsequent meeting. If we agree to do it, then we put our heads together and make it happen, probably beforw the end of the year, in dry season.

It went very well. In fact, someone drove his Peugeot 406, all the way from Kaduna to Abuja to attend it. I was amazed when i saw him because he called and said he would come and he did. Thats very inspiring. It shows love people have for their Lion.

Even, the person that came has bo Peugeot car, but he came because he wanted to learn. Of course, the program started immediately without waiting for more people to come. He definitely benefitted more.

king406: Hello all, I'm not sure if I should be posting this here but from my own understanding it says 'car chat room' so I'm gonna bring it up... A lot has been going on about the peugeot 406 in nigeria, I've driven one myself and its one of the best cars I've ever driven, I drove the 3.0V6 prestige with 210bhp, now I'm having an arguement with my friends that a 2008 honda accord V6 is faster than the 406 V6?? Its that true?? huh
Peugoet 406 Prestige V6 3.0 does not exist. Prestige is just a badge for mostly 406 PAN production with EW10 engine. PAN stopped at EW10. They didnt produce EW12 406, not to think of the V6.

What dealers do, out of ignorance, is as soon as foreign produced 406 comes into the country, they will buy the "Prestige" badge and stamp on them. Most prospective buyers ignorantly buy them, thinking prestige means D9 or facelifted 406. Its just a badge like SR, ST, GLX, LX, etc. It simply specifies the specifications of the Lion.

V6 406 usually comes with 3 badges: V6, V6 SV and V6 Executive. The executive have more gadgets. Send me the VIN of the V6 you drove with Prestige badge and i will confirm the true badge from Peugeot database and post it here.

If you meant 2008 Accord V6, of course, the Accord will be faster.

But just like i told people at the Peugeot owners Meet today in Abuja, I am a car person, a petrolhead and a Peugeot freak. What i look for in a car is not just the speed (even though i like and want them powerful), but "handling". Thats why the fastest car in a race doesnt always win the race. Also, that why in 1988, Peugeot 505 Turbo, with just 180 hp, won a race in USA. The car was not the fastest car in that race. But if watch the video of that race, you could see how it handled better than other cars in the race and won.

The bigger the hp, the more fun to speed on a straight line. But with poot handling, it sucks!

LegatusGlaber: I recently acquired a Tokumbo 406 D8, I still own a peugeot 406 2001 model. What I realised in this particular D8 is that instead of the rev meter, you have an analog clock there in it's place. What does this mean?
Can you snap and attach instrument panel picture?

Siena: King406, the Peugeot 406 2.2 SRI makes 157 hp, with a maximum speed of 135 mph.

Now unless your car was extensively modified, there's no way it would hit 150 mph.

Your speedo must be over reading by a massive margin.
Peugeot 406 with EW12, 2.2 litre Petrol engine develops maximum of 170 hp. And doing more than 200 km/h in 406 with that engine is not a big deal. A lot of people have done that.

Hello everyone.

Been busy since morning, work and arrangements for the Meet tomorrow. Not long i got home, after leaving the garden, some minutes ago.

Yes, non Peugeot owners are invited as well. After all, you may decide to add a Lion to one you currently drive, after hearing what we have to discuss on our Lions. Lol!

But note discussion is specifically on Lions, no other brand. But of course, you will benefit from some topics that relate to other brands or cars generally.

Will see you guys tomorrow morning.

Car TalkPeugeot Owners Meet: Abuja by Ikenna351(op):
Peugeot Owners Meet

I have been receiving mails and calls from Lion owners all over the country, on issues and sometimes excitements from newly Lion owners. So far, I could tell from these issues, they could have been prevented with acquisition of right information/knowledge and basic preventative maintenance tips. A lot of Lion owners are so scared when they hear or read of these DIY tips, which if applied, would prevent nightmares these Lion owners go through.

For the above reason, I realised that explaining and demonstrating these tips live and other discussions on Lion brand will go a lot to help people take care of their Lions and would be surprised how there nightmares would varnish and never return. For that, I am initiating this opportunity for it to become a reality. If I, with no science background, could understand and apply these tips on my Lions and other people’s Lions, then you can. Don’t let people’s opinion of you become your reality.

For the first time in Nigeria, owners of particular brand of vehicle, Peugeot, will be coming together to understand their Lions better than what books or articles teach them. For the first time in Nigeria, you will be shown simple ways one can upgrade from used to brand new Lions or add more Lions, irrespective of your current income monthly or annually, without any Loan. Isn’t that wonderful?

I have discussed with some new Peugeot parts dealers and they are willing to come and educate us how to identify fake and genuine parts. I have also discussed with Peugeot Auto Transmission expert who also is ready to come and educate and answer questions, on best way to own Auto Tranny Peugeots and the recommended ATF for them. Other Peugeot specialists will be part of the Meet as well. I also plan to get PAN to come and talk to us. At least have your questions prepared, like why some vital parts are not available in the country, irrespective of their presence in the country. Lol!

Quite a number of Lion owners have been making grave mistakes, changing their transmission fluids with wrong fluids, be it manual or Auto box, when there are better alternatives available in the country. All that will be discussed. Also, discussion on right Engine oils for our Lions engines and renewal interval controversy.

For those outside Abuja, it’s not going to end in Abuja. There is plan to take it to other states, so that everyone will benefit.

Oh! I forgot to add. There will be a free scan of Peugeots with Peugeot Planet (PP2000) for all attendees interested, after the program every Saturday. And most importantly, it’s free scan. Anyone who had carried out a PP2000 session in his Lion will understand the value.

What more can I say. It’s happening!

Date: Every Saturday.
Time: 8.30am – 11.00am
Venue: Gudu Park & Recreation Garden, beside NNPC Filling Station, Gudu, Abuja.

Before I go, I have this I learnt from someone to say to you reading this: "It's better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, than have have an opportunity and not be prepared." Which do you prefer? Former or latter?

tumababa: maf- sprayed and cleaned.
Sprayed or cleaned with what? A swap with another would have been better to rule out the MAF. You must not pay for parts while carrying out this manual troubleshooting. I adopted a trick and it works for me. Contact me offline to leak the secret to you.

Ah! I love manual troubleshooting. I am actually missing it. I applied it on my Peugeot 505 V6 when I first got her and thats how i know what I know today technically with cars. But the car EFI system has refused to fail again for over 2 years now. Lol! Really missed that method. Now, PP2000 kind of looks like cheating. Lol! Honestly, with scan tool, you wont learn or understand EFI systems.

Even though manual troubleshooting takes time to detect the culprit(s), but by the time you catch those principalities (lol!), you must have learnt alot. And most importantly, understand your EFI system better, which will help next time troubleshooting easier and faster. Been there!

You havent answered the question on vacuum leak.

By the way, does your temperature gauge on instrument panel correspond with coolant temperature on the scan tool while carrying out parameter measurement?

Just in case. If I find out it's trigger 1 or trigger 2, how do I fix the problem.

Will get the car scanned soonest.
It means you wont have to replace anything. But the two fronts seats will have to come down for the repair to be carried out. A simple fix but not funny while at it.

But you need to find out the cause first. It could be connectors under those seats or COMM2000.

walestega: Hi Ikenna,

I commend you for the wonderful job and selfless service you've been rendering to nairalanders. Gob Bless U Bro.

I'm having some issues with my 406 D9.

Firstly, when I start up my engine in the morning, and try to rev it sounds a little odd (to me) until the engine warms up. I only notice this when †̥hε̲ car engine has been off for a long period. Is this a cause for alarm?

Secondly, in the past week my air bag light was flashing intermittently and is now permanently on. Any quick fix regarding this (maybe some things I need to check before going to scan my lion?).

Thirdly, my ABS lights have been permanently on for a while. I scanned it and it complained of the passenger rear sensor which I got my mechanic to clean. However the light remains on (haven't gone back to scan it). Do I need to clear the fault with a scanner before it resets or does it clear off automatically?

I love my lion, that car is a monster on the road. I also noticed that at a speed of 110km/h it seems to move faster than other cars @ the same speed. Is it just my imagination.

Thank you.
1. You need a PP2000 scan to tell what the cause is. It could be permanent or intermittent fault which generic scanner wont see.

2. There is no quick fix on this until you detect the cause, which likely is trigger 1 or trigger 2 under the two front seats. You need PP2000 to find out the cause.

3. You need to erase the fault on ABS/ESP ECU with PP2000 first. I am not sure it goes off automatically.

4. I think its just your imagination. Lol!

nas00: @Gazzuzz and Adanny01:

Thanks so much for your comments and correction. Your points are well taken and noted.

I ran a check on the car early yesterday and found out that my alternator was no longer working. I knew this because my car started normally when I replaced the battery with a friend's. However, while my friend's engine kept running when I removed his battery (then placed my flat battery in his car to charge), MY OWN ENGINE STOPPED immediately I removed the battery terminal after starting it.

@luvinghubby: Please, how much will I get an OEM alternator at oyingbo? .. Car is 2003 Accord, L4. Kindly reply asap. Thanks!
The bolded above is the easiest way of frying injection ECU. Its a major killer of EFI systems, I mean playing with electrics in that manner. A small spark could easily harm your injection ECU which will gradually detoriate and would later send the ECU to grave the day you least expect. That you didnt notice any abnormal behaviour from the car after doing that doesnt mean harm has not been done. The second harm is all it may need to say farewell to you for good.

A Lion owner called me some days ago. He took his Lion to an auto electrician to revert the wrong radiator fan connection to factory. Unfortunately, the clown didnt disconnect the battery terminals. While at the work, a wire touched where it shouldnt touch and it generated a spark. Guess what? It fried the injection ECU straight ahead. Luckily for him, it spared his BSI, but the engine ECU was gone. I knew how much it cost him to get that car to start and run again.

Few months back, a Lion owner called me as well. What happened? A mechanic disconnected the battery terminals while leaving the key on the ignition switch (probably the ignition was on as well). It simply fried the BSI, no mercy!

My point is, those sparks you see while reconnecting battery terminals while engine is running is not good for any ECU.

The easiest and simplest method of diagnosing, troubleshooting or checking the state of Alternator or Battery is with DMM (Digital Multimeter). You can get a DMM as cheap as N200 (Two hundred naira only) and it will do the work perfectly. Get one, switch on the DMM, turn the knob to DC volts, start the vehicle, place the DMM red lead on battery positive terminal and DMM black lead on negative battery terminal. If you see on the DMM screen 11v, 12.4v or 12.5v, then the Alternator is gone. Also if you see anything between 12.5v - 12.8v, it means the Alternator is on its way out (failing gradually). I dont know about Honda, but for Peugeot, 13v - 14v means the Alternator is still intact.

To check the state of the battery. While engine is off, place the DMM leads as explained above. Anything less than 12.5v means the battery is drained or dying. It could still start the car, but could die soon, unless something is draining the battery.

Please, not that 12.5v also means 12.50v, depending on how the DMM is set up.

Car TalkRe: Where To Get Toyota Recommended Coolant by Ikenna351(m): 12:20pm On Aug 12, 2014
Bossmd: Coolant is not like engine oil that is replaced at interval. Except there is a problem with your cooling system, no need to replace your coolant.
I dont know what works for you guys in Toyota. But for Peugeot, it would be wrong not to replace your coolant every 2 years or so.

These days, car manufacturers would claim in their owners manual that the auto tranny fluids in their newer cars are to be used for life. Ask those who kept that instruction how it turned out for them on their auto trannies.

19naia: I dont know how the antique car market goes in Nigeria, but in countries like USA, old out of date cars can sell for extreme high price, even the ones that are not working properly or even missing the engine..
Peugeot is not high on the list of coveted cars, but eventually the price of any proper working car, stops dropping and starts rising..
There are cars sold new in 1950's that died and were abandoned after being used down to the bone.. Then when the car was rare and antiquity, people buy and rebuild it with customized design and even original restoration to sell the car for even more than a new mercedes today.. Rare car, rare price... Not sure about this 505, but eventually it will be a novelty item and the price will not drop but rise instead.. So far as the car is maintained or restored/refurbished... In USA the almighty VW Bug/beetle is a coveted car and the older the better, there is nothing they cannot refurbish on the car and people pay high dollar for it...
You know, poverty has made most Nigerians to reason awkward.

Right now, there is a Peugeot 504 on sale in USA that cost $18,500 USD (N3,004,400.00). Find it below:

http://inventory.ragtopsmotorcars.com/listing/1973-peugeot-504/

Like you have observed, not everyone appreciates good things in life when they see one. I know how many people that have asked me to be on look out for a Peugeot 505 V6 and let them know when one pops up for sale.

To get the message home, someone offered me over a million naira to give up my 505 V6 stick for him last year. Guess What? I turned him down.

We had a heavy rainfall about an hour ago in Abuja. Well, after the rain, I got into my SV D9 and headed home. I got to infront Ministry of Defence, Area 10. There was this pool of water and every car would slow down and would craw through it. When it got to my turn to pass, one animal seating behind a Toyota truck couldn't wait and pushed his nose into the flood with speed. Hell was let loose. Every vehicle stopped immediately. Pedestrians took to their heels. The animal was just splashing water all over the place. Luckily for me, my windows were up, as usual, while my SV D9 was covered with water. It was as if a tanker of water just open his tank full with water on top of my Lion.

But the scenario turned into an interesting movie when all of a sudden, even before the water got to my windscreen, my wipers came to life and quickly started wiping at high speed. While that was happening, my Lion was stationary and almost all the pedestrians who took to their heels and were cursing the Toyota truck guy, were now gazing at my Lion. It was as if the car developed a terrible serious electrical fault, the way the wipers came on and the speed it was going. Then all of a sudden the wipers stopped wiping the windscreen, all by itself as it started. I put my gear back to 1 and slowly started moving. I couldn't believe how the whole attention turned to my Lion. I looked at a stationary Honda Accord. The drivers window was open and the Driver's mouth was open, as he gazed at my Lion like a zombie. Lol! I just knew at that moment that someone or some persons just got converted to Lions family. Lol!

Funny thing is, I actually forgot I left the wiper to Auto wiper (rain sensor). Its not that only Peugeots have that gadget. But the way mine behaved and for a 2000 production for that matter, they were probably thinking " How did I end up with this thing I am sitting in, instead of that?" Lol!

The Peugeot Owners Meet arrangement is still on.
