gabng: IK,By mere looking at the VIN, I know they are all 407. The 4th digit said so. For 406, its 8 (VF38). For 607, its 9 (VF39). For 407, its 6 (VF36). * V = Europe. * F= France. * 3= Peugeot. * 6= 407. etc. Please, I didnt mean that EW10 407 is easier to maintain, after all my ES9J4S is easy to maintain as well, if not easier. What I meant was that its average engine in EW series, in terms of power and economy. All EW engines in 407 have MTB (Motorised Throttle Body). So maintenance cost would be the same. As for the result, will get back soon on that. Ikenna |
guysmilee134: Good day house, i just became a victim of an ignorant mechanic, i use a 406 EW12 engine and i took my fox to a mechanic to check out and probably change my Comm 2000. i thought the guy knew his onions and before i could say jack robbinson the guy had removed the positive terminal and bamm that was it. uptil this moment we ve not been able to switch the car on. infact the instrument panel on the dash doesnt even come on. i had to tow the car away from his place. all thats running through my mind is a corrupt BSI. pls i need help thanks in advance.About 2 months ago, around my office, i was coming from behind a 406 with his bonnet open and the engine running/idling. I got to the front of the car and saw 2 men facing the engine bay. I looked and it was EW series (EW10 or EW7). Something caught my attention which made me stopped. There was no battery in the engine bay, yet the engine was running. On the ground, i saw 2 batteries. One of them lifted up the battery and started to mount it in the battery box, to reconnecf the battery terminals while engine was running. I couldn't kept quiet. So i told him "Please, thats a bad practice and a call for serious damage to any modern Peugeot car". They both looked at me and the one reconnecting the battery now asked me, "Who fed you those lies?". He went on narrating how theg were taught while in training by PAN not to leave the battery connected while working in any Peugeot, especially the electricals. But that he never applied all that because he has been doing the opposite for many years in peugeot cars and nothing has ever happened. He went on and on, but i couldn't stay there listening to him, so i just shaked my head and left. The 2nd guy kept mute all those while the other guy was proving his better knowledge on Peugeot to me. He could be the owner of the car. But i didn't bother to ask, since he was ok with the abuse or destruction going on in the car. A simple spark from battery terminals when engine is off but terminals wrongly removed, can do some damages. Not to think of a running engine that will produce all sorts of sparks on the battery terminals while reconnecting the terminals, considering the Alternator is at work. @ guysmilee134, The deed has been happened. Yes, like you suspected, your BSI could have been damaged or corrupted during the wrong battery terminals disconnection. And if that is the case, your BSI may not even communicate with scan tool, not to think of engine ECU. I know what it feels like to drive into a workshop for a minor issue to be fixed, only for you to be forced to take back his car by towing it out. Notwithstanding, i would suggest checking the whole fuses: the fuses on BSM, fuse box under the steering wheel and fuses on BSM unit. I want to believe you guys must have checked all the fuses. But have you checked the fuses and relays on the BSI unit? I think the BSI unit has 2 relays on it, including fuse scattered on it. I would check all of them as well. Not that if the BSI is damaged, you will need to buy Engine Control Unit and key transponder from the same 406 BSi you will buy. The 3 components are coded together. None will work without the other. Please, do not trust your Lion to any mechanic or auto electrician, no matter how good they seem. It has to be a peugeot specialist. A good Toyota specialist would do the same thing that clown did on your electrics, because he wouldn't know the do's and don'ts in a Peugeot. The way Japs electrics are handled is not the same with Peugeot. So be careful who you open your bonnet for or leave your Lion for, with hope that he knows what he is doing. Those complex Peugeot electrics are their to protect your lions and worry less about losing your car to thieves. And to be enjoying that, don't let any clown disconnect your battery. DO that yourself with the procedure. Ikenna |

You hide an unwanted/unrelated post or topic as a warning, the member that broke the rule would come back and insult you for hiding his/her post. You post a warning that if he/she breaks the same rule again, it would earn him a ban. The member comes back and accuse you of threatening him with a ban. You ban the member, some members would call you all sorts of derogatory names. I dont go about sending love letters, in the name of PM, to troublemakers not to break the forum rules they see each time they are about to compose posts or create topics. I don't keep the forum rules because am a moderator, but because i agreed on it the day i registered my only username in Nairaland. davonny: Thanks so much mr IK. Concerning d horn, I did as u said and It worked until this evening. I had to hit d d steering hard b4 it started working.this happened for about 3times. Maybe there is partial contact in d steering or what do u thinkHmm! I would suggest you be careful with your hitting the steering wheel, because you do not want the airbag inside it to deploy and smash your face. Remember, airbag ECU can be very sensitive. This is no 504 or 505 that you can knock big hammer on and they smile back at you. Probably the horn switch on the steering wheel need to be checked and cleaned, including the connectors. Do you know how to remove the steering wheel? Its illustrated in the repair manual that has been posted here. But if you can't remove, take it to a Peugeot auto electrician to remove it for you, so that you do the cleaning. But then, it has 2 horn switches on that steering wheel, i think. So both can't fail at the same time. I would suspect the connector. Are you sure the grounds/connectors on the horns were well cleaned? Ikenna |
I just left a thread ( Funny Things Written On Cars(buses) You've Seen?), and I must really speak against the manner of speech of lomomike(?) Trac: The thread is getting long. A lot of the issues are repetitive. Meanwhile, it's been answered in details. It'll be buried by page 100. I don't know if it makes sense to you; probably MB Thread II. The thread right above this is a typical complaint that has been addressed and would leave him empowered afterwards. yungboss: that's true sir. Please, it's not allowed to break threads in Nairaland. That's the Admin decision. Some threads in other sections have exceeded 100 pages. Besides, that one finds it difficult to learn or get solutions to his car issues by going through thread, from the first page, should be the members headache. Even when a student missed a lecture, he would not expect the lecturer to have another class on the same subject he taught in the previous day because a student was absent in his last lecture. The student have his classmates notes to read up on what what was taught in the previous class and keep himself/herself updated, even though questions could be entertained in the next lecture for more clarifications. So let's leave the thread as it is. Moderator |
davonny: Good morning house, good morning Mr Ikenna. My 406 ( EW10 engine ) horn has been working intermitently. Some times I would be able to honk another time I won't be able. Last time it didn't work for a whole day only to start working next day moring and stoped in the afernoon. Presently its not working, I hope it will come up b4 today is over. Pls what is d problem and the solution.Check the fuse 13 in the BSM (the fuse box in the engine bay, behind the battery box). If the fuse contacts are corroded, clean and slot back in. Also, Check the ground connections on the horns. Clean them, including the connectors. You may have to bring out the horns and test them on the battery directly. Ikenna |

dgitrader: @ ikennaMy SV D9 came with winter tyres, Q rated, which can only take maximum of 160 km/h. Why on Earth would I have such a tyre, and on a V6 for that matter? Of course, I got rid of them 4 and mounted V rated tyres on the wheel, which can take maximum 240 km/h. Now, thats a matched tyre for the car! A tyre with maximun speed of 160 km/h means a reasonable maximum speed to push the car is 130 or at most, 140 km/h. It will be unwise to drive the tyre on its maximum speed. Now, did I acquire a V6 stick for just 130 km/h as maximum speed? I don't think so. Buying a 240 km/h speed tyre does not mean one plans to doing 240 km/h with the car. But the day it will come handy, you will what it means to have a car you cant push beyond 120 km/h to save yourself, simply because the tyre could explode since it wasnt designed for such handle such speed, even though the car can handle the speed. That I have a V6 car doesnt mean I will be doing 200 km/h with it every time i find myself on highway or expressway. One must not make use of the V6 power all the time. It's there, waiting for you to make use of it when it comes handy and damn the fuel economy. Let me ask you. Have you ever been chased on the highway by robbers? Besides, the my SV D9 left the Show room with V-speed rated tyres, so says the manual. So, I no sabi pass Peugeot. Ikenna |

^^ 1. Since you have confirmed it's MAP, I would leave the MAP as it is for now, but make sure the connector is not corroded and the vacuum line leaking. 2. Since you said your o2 have two wires each, they will have no heater. It also means the o2 get their get their ground supply from the thread. The two wires should ECU signal wires and 12v+ supply from either relay or fuse. Get a DMM, disconnect the o2, test any of the two wires (i think the white) from the engine harness end, you should get 12v. As for the other (maybe the blue), connect the connector/socket back, start the car and probe the wire. Signal wire should give you less than 1v, when connected while engine is running. 5. If you are sure the radiator sensor is the fan trigger by factory, switch on the ignition. While the fan is spinning, pull out the connector on the radiator sensor, to see if the fan will stop spinning. From your findings, we will take it from there. Ikenna |
Your Areas of Concern: 1. You keep syaing MAP sensor, but am not sure what you have is MAP sensor. I want to believe its AFM. Troubleshooting is different. Confirm. 2. Your o2 sensor, how many wires does it have on the connector? 1, 3 or 4 wires? 3. I wont comment on this since everything is not equall. Will explain later. 4. I don't understand what you mean by Injector regulator and nozzle. You mean Throttle Body and Injectors? Confirm or explain.\ 5. Same as #3. Now, what you should have in your cooling system is coolant only, not water and coolant, since almost all coolant i have seen in Nigeria are premixed. Unless you imported undiluted coolant. With the present mixture, your cooling system temperature will take longer to rise, meaning, longer duration of excess fuel injected before it gets to optimal temp. Does your engine have FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator)? If it does, have you checked if its passing fuel into the intake manifold via vacuum line on the FPR? Start the engine and pull out the vacuum line on the FPR. If you see any fuel on that line, replace it. I mean the FPR. As for your radiator fan spinning constantly, you have not checked well. Pull out the fan relay and radiator sensor connector, check for bridge on those connectors where the relay and sensor pins go in. There is a bridge somewhere, you just have to look harder. Your fan spinning at cold engine start will make the ECU to continue to spray in excess fuel for a long time, since the fan is not allowing the coolant to heat up faster. 2,540 rpm at non running engine Weird! Notwithstanding, I prefer to work with parameters values while engine is running, idle or WOT.Ikenna |
popplm: Pls help: my peugot 206 is just 1 week old, I notice the engine get jacked after 3 mins of running (either moving or not) I thought it was the fuel filter or the fuel pump. And my mechanic help to change both. But the fault still there. He also washed the fuel norsle but noting change. Meanwhile this fault is notice only once at the start of the engine and will not happen again when the engine is turtle to avoid the total failure of power. Pls what do I do?Am not sure i understand you "get jacked". Do you stay in Abuja? Ikenna |
At 86 - 91 degree celsius temperature which your CTS showed, it shows the engine is at optimal temperature, meaning the car appears to have thermostat still intact. Notwithstanding, hope the cooling system thermostat is still in the system? But at 91 degree C, the rpm should be 736 -760 at idle, but not too high though. But it depends on the ignition system. But i would have considered it not normal if the result showed 950-1,200 rpm or so at the 91 degree C. Yes, at 20 degree C, i would say 1000 rpm is ok, since the ECT/CTS is doing its work, since the engine is cold. As for the TP (TPS), i don't know the factory value of your car TPS at WOT and closed buttery. So I won't comment on it. But your IAT showed that the outside air entering the intake manifold via airbox is about 49 Degree C. It means the engine is sucking in hot air. Are you staying in the hottest part of Nigeria ? Or is your airbox air inlet tupe disconnected from getting cold air? Otherwise, your airbox is sucking hot air the engine generates, instead of the outside cooler air, unless you have swapped in cone filter. Or that your IAT is faulty? What's your tyre sizes? Out of factory size? What about your radiator fan(s)? Still run with factory connection or has been bypassed and connected to spin constantly ? What fluid do you have in your cooling system? Water or Coolant? Ikenna |
nikkyshyne: It is auto. What do you expect when most part of your body are inactive while driving auto transmission. As if its not enough, Nigerian female driver's sitting position while driving is not helping matters. For a start, shift that driver's seat back and adjust the height position. Unfortunately, 98%, if not 99.5%, of our females want to be seeing their front bumpers while driving, to the point that they would shift their seat forward and move their bodies so close to the steering wheel that one starts to imagine which part of their bodies turn the steering wheel? Their hands or their b.. em.. em... chests? But seriously, ever considered what would happen when you crash into something or another car smashed onto your front? Even before the Airbag sensor will signal to its ECU to deploy the Steering Airbag, the steering wheel would have been pushed onto your chest and crush your ribs, lungs, heart, etc. Each time i see ladies behind the wheels, i would wonder who taught them how to drive. But when i do see some driving school instructors sitting in that manner too, i would rest my case. I wonder how you guys drive long distance in that wrong sitting position, especially behind the wheel? Would that not paralyse one?Manual Transmission helps ones 2 legs to be active while driving (including your waist), since you will always be moving both legs, up and down, while depressing clutch and releasing accelerator in the process. Your two hands will be very active as well, since you will be shifting stick with right hand, while the left hand takes care of the steering wheel. A very good form of exercise. Notwithstanding, proper sitting position will go along way to to help the situation. Ikenna |
yemionline: My remote dosnt work oo, hasnt worked since i got the car. the button on the remote is not there. was told that because my car dosnt have a BSI, nothing can be done to make the remote functional again. please is this true?Sorry, i forgot you said central lock, not remote issue. Check under the steering wheel for blown fuse. For D9, fuse A powers the central lock. Ikenna |
yemionline: Hi Ikenna, how was service today, i guess it was splendid. As for key remote , is 2 buttons or 1 button? If its 2 button key remote, try the below: http://peugeotarena.com/how-to-programreprogram-406-key-remote-with-2-buttons-2001-2004-models/ But if its1 button key remote, let me know so that i will direct you on how to reprogram the key. As for your 16" Alloy wheels issue, what phase is your 406? Phase I or II? At least, all most all D9 with EW12 and V6 had "16 Alloy wheels from factory. Mine have on it 205/55 R16. So, i want to believe the Aftermarket 16" Alloy wheels on your Lion is not compatible with the hub, not that Peugeot didn't design 406 hub to be mounted 16" wheel. Since you have 16 size tyres, i would suggest you look for used Peugeot 16"Alloy wheels and lug nuts of D9. It will be available in Peugeot used parts shops. As for the Diagbox interface (cable) question. Sorry, it's not sold separately. It's sold as a box with other stuffs, hence, the diagbox (Diagnostic Box). Find it below: http://peugeotarena.com/peugeot-pp2000-lexia-3-diagbox-scanner-for-sale/ Ikenna |
aikerism: I have checked it out. I do have a thermostat afterall but it most likely has failed, it is a whaler brand... The mechanic disconnected the socket and the temp gauge pin droped to the minimum, he then used a wire to connect the socket to one other place and the guage pin shot up to the maximum... Hmmmm! Is like you want to join the mechanic in performing Circus show in your engine bay, because it appears two of you have mistaken temperature switch with thermostat. Thermostat has no wiring connector or socket. It pure mechanical. Ikenna |
embee430: My friend died trying to negotiate that same bend at area 1 with a Peugeot 406.. Dont try it next time OP. Drive carefullyDid Op said he was the one that negotiated the bend on high-speed with his Peugeot 406? And did Op mention any bend at Area 1 in the post? Ikenna |
I just remembered the below: http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/peugeot-forum/105920-we-should-make-ikenna351-aussie.html Ikenna |
When I got there, we put in my own car battery it started and went off within 5seconds. The driver tried again and I was just hearing kur-kur-kur. After sometime, he suggested we call a auto electrician. (I also obderved that the battery terminal head was very hot and it seems to be as if it weakens battery). The two auto electricians confirmed that it wasn't a kick problem. The other mechanic(he is not a specialist in Toyota) said it may be that it is metal, that the engine is not turning. He then said that I may need to buy a new engine or half engine. NB Also, there was oil in the engine(I can't say how thick or light). But they said that Sienna 98 engines can pack up anytime.
Sounds like a seized engine. In that case, the mechanic could be right. But I wouldnt stop there though. I would try and rotate the crankshaft manually with sizeable spanner/socket via Crankshaft pulley lock nut, with the gear in Neutral. Whatever happens then will tell me if the engine has packed up or the problem is elsewhere. About '98 Toyota Sienna packing up anytime like they claimed. I wont comment on it, since i know little about Toyota. They could be right or wrong. I would suggest you try another mechanic. Dont tell him what the others said. But if he say the same thing that your engine has failed, then take heart and source for another engine, if you can afford it now. That's all I can think off, unless someone else has a better solution. Ikenna |
Your description of the car problem is not clear. Are you saying the engine cranks (turns) but doesn't start or that it doesn't crank at all? Please, leave what the auto mechanics/electricians said. Am asking you as what you observed, since you were there. If it cranks, does it sound weird? Just to know if your timing belt has given up. But your camshaft sensor should tell you if its timing belt/chain related issue via scan tool. Ikenna |
If you are not a speed freak, get H rated tyre. Its good for all weather (abi all seasons) . But if you are speed freak, depending on the size of your wheel, get V, z or W rated tyre. They are otherwise known as performance tyres. Both the V rated tyre will give you better road handling than the H rated tyre on high speed. But the H speed rated tyre should last longer than the V. Maximum speed H rated tyre can take is 210 km/h, while V rated tyre is 240 km/h. How to identify the speed rated symbols on the tyres? You will see something like 205/55 R16 91V Or 195/60 R15 88H.
