sultaan: Let us stop here and keep to the rules.

Car brands and models are game here, ridiculous and obscene fallacies can be made about those things but we should resist direct unflattering opinions on personalities on this forum.

Like this

I still think Peugeot are crappy, they have no luxurious brand just the cheap decomposes which worked well for those on a budget.

Audi is overpriced bank breaker not for working folks

And Mercedes is a dynamic coefficient of bla bla bla for grandpas

Those are my opinions, and Ikenna, Siena, and Trac (just more fun dragging him into this)should never take it personal.

Ford would have killed the competition if they had a stand, from those pics Chrysler brought the best product per naira others are just not showing their money worth.

Like women, some married the first girl they got into, not the best thing.

You need to get into different brands, models, engine sizes take them for a ride city, highway, back road even off road pick the one that fits your needs.

People that take home an econobox because of running cost end up renting a big*ss V6 on weekends taking it for a ride as if its stolen in a way they won't drive the one at home could have gotten the big engine at same price but skipped on fuel economy.

Don't get a 3cyl Peugeot for 3 mil when when there is a V6/V8 out there waiting.A 4cyl Prado at that price hell no.
Exactly what I was saying. You specifically said "don't take it personal", yet you went on and started talking down on other brands of car, excluding yours. So your brand of car has nothing negative to comment about it? Now I can see how you have proved me wrong.

What exactly is wrong with Peugeot 301 with 3-cylinder engine? Are you saying Peugeot is the only company that produces 3 cylinder engines Presently? Almost all Euro and Japs car companies now produce cars with 3-cylinder engine. Why is Peugeot one a headache for you? Don't we have Toyota Yaris with Cylinder engine? What about Toyota Aygo, BMW 1 series, Ford Fiesta, etc? Don't they have 3 cylinder engine as well? Name any Euro car manufacturer that is yet to go 3 cylinder engine or not planning to? Was it because Peugfeot 1st introduced theirs in Nigeria as new that it became some headaches to people?

Now how many bhp those some 3-cylinder engines of different brands produces?

1. Toyota Aygo: 68 hp: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Aygo

2 Toyota Yaris: 89 hp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Vitz

3. Peugeot 301: 72 hp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_301_(2012)

4. Peugeot 208: 68 - 82 hp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_208

4. Nissan Micra: 79 hp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Micra

etc.

Now are you saying in US where you stay, People don't buy Toyota Yaris with 3 cylinder engines? So do you really think those that buy new Toyota Prius cant afford to buy used V8 cars and still have change, instead of buying the Prius? Are you saying everyone that buys green cars did so because they cant afford V6 or V8 cars? Do you think its everyone that cars how many hp a car offers? Why then should you say its not wise to buy a Peugeot 301 3-cylinder car for 3 million since the money can buy one a used V8 car? So everyone must choose a gas guzzling car?

How much does a brand new Toyota Yaris cost in USA. Convert it to Naira, with all the clearing fees and dealers profit and tell me if it would be less than 3 million or more. Or simply because it was Peugeot, so it should cost upto 3 million, instead, others should?

What is going on in this thread has nothing to do with the so called "constructive criticisms". Answer my questions above and prove me wrong.

About the thread and the form rules. I started this thread, I can modify it to accomodate the present discussion, as long as the title still covers earlier discussion/posts and doesnt break the forum rules and its still a Car Talk matter, which I have already done.

Then go to APO mechanic village. Locate France Line. France line is directly behind Benz line. You will find the Multifunction display screen there. Or you go up a little bit further, after a newly constructed Fuel station. You will find another Peugeot parts line there, mostly used parts.

You may get at Gudu market, but you will find mostly new parts there. Good luck.

Car TalkRe: 2013 Abuja Int'l Motor Fair: Compare Car Brands. by Ikenna351(op):
Siena: Nice write-up, Ikenna.

But one thing's for sure - you can't expect everyone to like the same cars. Some will love them, others will actively detest them. I admire your passion for the Peugeot brand, but I still feel you need to lighten up when others slate the Peugeot brand, rightly or wrongly. I have owned a Peugeot 505 STI - while it may not have been to everyone's taste at the time, I liked it, and will certainly consider getting another RWD Peugeot as a V8 project car - a 505 or 504 GL (because independent rear suspension is a must).

I'm an Audi and BMW man, always will be. But much as I like my preferred brands, there are others that don't, and they'll make their feelings pretty clear. It doesn't bother me in the slightest - their opinions don't affect my choice of car.

I buy my cars because I like them, not because the world and her wife have an opinion. I think you should be the same - enjoy your Lions, and don't get too defensive when others feel the Peugeot brand is dog poo. It's just the way of the world bro. We can't all like the same things, otherwise there wouldn't be enough to satisfy demand.

We live in a diverse world! wink
^^^^
Whatever your definition of the word "Defensive" is, am not sure my post you referred to has nothing to do with. Speaking of defensive, i remember vividly a post about how an engine of one certain VW or Audi car fell off from under the car, while car was in motion along Lokoja-Abuja expressway or so. I also remember how offended you became and attacked the poster, proving to him how that would be impossible because you understood the configuartion of the car front end better than the poster who made that claim. Your outbust in that thread was very obvious that you were defending VW for such a false information. So if both of us were been defensive to brands we drive, you should have spared me the above post. Your post can get 100 likes, but concern me not.

Of course, I understand. People should post negative comments on Peugeot cars, but should keep the flaws of the brands they drive, as if they are perfect cars and no one should mention it, except only Peugeot flaws. I totally understand. Of course, those that find only faults in Peugeot in their comments have no attachement to the brands of cars they drive, which was why they forgot to mention the flaws associated with theirs too. So, its ok to see only negative in someone or someone 's something and speaks only of those negatives, but no one should negative things they see in you or your things too. Sorry, it goes both ways.

How I feel about negative comments on Peugeot here is irrelevant, but what bothers me is what is wrong with us a people. So lets deal with those problems in these threads. Let's this thread be "Moment Of Truth". I wouldnt mind to modify the title of this thread to accomodate it, since I created this topic/thread. So if you have any negaitive comments you have been waiting to tell the world, lets have them here. But don't forget to mention the car brand you drive. Because i have so many "sweet" comments on your car brand too. Let's see how reliable, safe and unplastic the brand of cars you drive really are.

Car TalkRe: SUV Made By Innoson Motors (Pictures) by Ikenna351(m):
One thing I like about Igbo Language is that it doesn't give room for lies. The moment you start lying, you will look so daft, because even a kid would tell you are lying. But what do we do with this Alien Language called English, we commit all sorts of impunity with it. And when asked, it would be called "Constructive Criticism". Things have fallen apart! cry

Ask an average Nigerian, he would tell you "Nigeria doesn't produce a Pin; No jobs; We are not creative; Federal Govt. is daft, etc" the list goes on. Now, a fellow Nigerian, on his own, decided to solve or contributes in solving one of our social problems, but here we are killing the solution he has offered even before it fully get started.

If your child has some arts to perform in school, you go over there, as a parent, to cheer him/her up, even if he /she makes mistrakes while on the stage performing. I dont see any parent shouting from the audience, blaming his/her child for making a mistake in his her hole. A child seing his/her parent would gather more confidence and perform better than expected, because he/she has been encouraged by mere presence of the parent(s).

If your 6 years old child draws a Monkey, wrote Daddy or Mommy on it and show it to you, you would not spank him for calling you "Monkey". Instead, you would draw something that looks human, show it to her/him and say "My child, next time, draw something that looks like this as mommy or daddy. It will look better. But please dont show our Neighbours that your drawing". Yes, You wouldnt want your child to show your Neighbours how Monkey you are so that they wont call your child daft. Of course, we take care of our own, show love by encouraging them to do better.

Unfortunately, what has been going on various INNOSON MOTORS Threads, including this one, is quite the opposite. Very obvious!

Why so much emphasis on "It's not a manufacturing company, but an assembled one"? Which present car companies manufactures everything in a car? Do we really expect this young car company to start off today be where Peugeot or Benz are today? How old is Peugeot in this Car business and how old is Innoson Motors? How did Peugeot, Benz, Honda and the rest started? Can someone care to share?

Cant we just encourage this young indegineous car company to provide for us what we have been lacking since the existence of the Nation-state? Did any ask if Globacom equipments were been produced in Nigeria when the company came into existence? What exactly is our definition of "Production" ?

Innoson Motors may be lacking in Publicity, but they have just started. Those things cost money. Besides, Nnewi, Anambra or Enugu is only hundreds of kilometers from where we live. Yet, some of us go extra mile, forwarding hard earned millions to people in thousands of kilometers away to help them procure used cars they have not seen and ship them. But we are making so much noise about what we can get in our backyard. It doesnt make sense to me. But I wouldnt blame the Innoson Motors owner if he could afford to pay for the pubilicity, but chose not to. Because if he would read all these rejections here, why bother. After all, Our neighbouring country, Ghana, are demanding for his products, even though his people rejected his. Not surprised though. After all, Jesus Christ was a victim too. His people rejected and called that "son of Carpenter". I wouldnt blame Innoson Motors tomorrow if they close up in Nigeria and move to Ghana. They werent the first that have done it. At least, Michelin and Dunlop did it. You wouldn't know what you have untill you lose it.

Look at TATA? How did they get where they are today? What about KIA & Hyndai? Sometimes, while watching Korean movies, it would like as they drive KIA and Hyundai only in South Korea. You will hardly see any other brand of cars in their movies. Look at where they are today.

We are shouting "they are not safe enough", as if we have checked them out, driven or own them. Yet, some of these imported new cars from old big car companies dont even have the basic airbag. Yet people buy them, knowing they lack those safety features. But no one should buy Innoson or IVM cars because they are not international standards? What an Irony!

Anyway, for those in Abuja interested in Innoson SUVs, you can try the NOA (National Orientation Agency). Their head office at Area 1, old Federal Secretariat, uses IVM G5 as their official vehicles, including their Ogas. You can go there and they will direct you where you can purchase 1 in Abuja, if you are interested.

Car TalkRe: 2013 Abuja Int'l Motor Fair: Compare Car Brands. by Ikenna351(op):
I have started seeing a number of the newly launched Peugeot cars displayed in the 2013 Abuja Int'L Motor fair on Abuja roads. Quite a number of them, including the Peugeot 301. While some Nairaland members were here hating Lions, some Nigerians and non-Nigerians in Abuja are busy buying off those new Peugeots from various Peugeot dealerships in Abuja. I know so many calls and e-mails i have received after creating this thread, asking me to help them find out for them more details on features and prices on these displayed new Peugeots in the fair, from Peugeot dealerships here in Abuja.

Right in front of my office, a company that deals on new cars sale recently removed all other brands of cars and fill the compound with brand new Peugeots only. In the compound, the newly launched 5008 into the country are displayed as well, about 5 or 6 of them. The 5008 is a family Van. Find a video of Peugeot 5008 below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb4ng3TV51U

Before 2012 December, I was the only guy that drove Peugeot in the compound where my office is. But now, 3 more Peugeots have been added, excluding mine. Last month, 3 guys from another office we share the same compound with approached me on different days, asking me to help them source clean Peugeots for them. They all drive other brands, but have decided to move into the Lion family. If I was the one that converted them to join Lion family, I do not know. Because I have never ever sat down with anyone in that compound to discuss Peugeot or argue car brands with anyone, including my colleagues. As far as am concerned, drive whatever car or brand you desire or like. But then, action speaks louder than words. They most have been observing me and my Peugeots and couldnt help but got converted. cool That compound may soon be filled with Peugeots only, if care is not taken.

I took my time this morning to go through some comments here. So many awkward statements, just to prove fanboys of other brands. But it's understandable that man have this instinct to easily condemn or talk negatively of something he/she cannot afford. Because it beats me how one would condemn a car when he has not seen the car key, let alone touch it, not to think of seating in the car, driven the car or ever owned the car, yet he/she knows how bad the car is, better than those that own the car or have used the car. Some even called Peugeot 301 "plastics". But it would be so unfair of me to link some online car reviews here, proving how "un-plastics" the new German cars and other brands are today. Let's not even go down the relaibility matter on both the new German and Japs cars. Sometimes we forget that these cars were bought new and used before they go to us. So those that bought them new have their own stories to tell about how "unplastcis and reliable" the cars we brag with truly are. Just because those issues have been fixed before it got to you doesnt remove the fact. Even some online forums are enough to prove how Peugeots are so plastics, compared to those your "metal" cars. Really awkward statements!

Am not a German or Japs car fan, but I respect and admire the ones that gets my attention among them. I just simply love my French cars. Nairaland has only 1 million + members. Nigeria population is over 100 million. So you really think over 100 million Nigerians depend on 1 million Nairalanders negative opinions on new Peugeot cars, to influence their decisions to purchase these new Peugeots in that stand? Drive down to Abuja and find out.

Car TalkRe: Is Day Light Running Required In The Tropics ? by Ikenna351(m):
If I were in Federal Government Position to make policies regarding road use in Nigeria, I would make it a mandatory for all incoming (both new and used), assembled or manufactured cars in Nigeria to have Daytime Running Lights.

Sometime this year, on my way to Enugu from Abuja, I started making an important observation while i was behind the wheel. Around 1 pm, I noticed that I would feel more alert or consious whenever there an incoming car with the Daylight Ruuning Lights. I dont know how to explain this, but you can go out and try this on a highway after about 4 hours of non-stop driving on high-speed.

Daylight Running Lights helps in dealing with fatigue on a long distance driving in day time. With More Daylight Running Lights on our highways, I believe there would less sleep off cases on the highways and that would reduce accidents on our highways too. Trust me. People don't tell the truth about what caused accidents in cars they were driving when the accidents occur, that is, if they survive. No one wants to be blamed for causing loss of lives of putting others in danger. But no matter how good or experience you are in driving, there are times sleep may make an attempt on you and you dont just pull over anyhow on some parts of our highways, otherwise, you may end your jouney without that car or even lose your live. Ask those that it has happened to. My father was once a victim.

By the way, Euro spec cars do come with the Daylight Running Lights as well, not just American spec cars. My 406 V6 has it.

dellyosh: thanks.
i actually had the gasket changed by a mechanic sometime in march this year when the car had constant overheating issues.

could that be the reason?
Then, its likely they have removed your thermostat as well.

Before we go into the t-stat matter, check the coolant reservoir cover/cap seal and bleed the cooling system. Because its alo possible that they didnt bleed your system when the head gasket was replaced. Trapped air in cooling system can be unforgiven to cylinder head when engine gets hot.

As for your t-stat, if you are not sure if its still there or not, there is a simple method of finding out. I dont know about VW, but you can try Peugeot method. Find it in the link below:

http://peugeotarena.com/how-to-test-peugeot-engine-cooling-system-thermostat-while-its-still-in-engine/

Car TalkRe: Issues With My '98 VW Golf III Auto trans by Ikenna351(m): 5:40pm On Dec 06, 2013
uchman,

Now let's see what we can do while we waite for others more knowledgeable in VW.

1. Overheated while in a Journey

You said the car overheated. What happened? The car suddenly stalled/engine went off while in motion? Or you realised the car was overheating, stopped the car and kill/switch off the engine? Did you make an attempt to start the car after the car overheated? Did it start? I want us to know exactly what happened.

2. Head Gasket replacement

Before the head gasket replacement, was the engine starting, though running poorly?

3. Starter

I want to believe the non-starting issue led to the issue of failed started. Because the car was refusing to start, they problably were cranking the engine longer than it should which eventaully killed the motor in the starter (aka amiture). But the truth is, for Peugeots, if there starter crank speed becomes slower, the car wont start, just like a failing battery would do in Peugeots, even though the engine would be cranking. But they need to crank faster for the Engine management to do its work. A dragging starter will sap or reduce 12 ve+ that goes to engine management and the rest of the injection components. If those components and the ECU receive less than required volts, the engine wont run, even though it would crank.

If you car were manual transmission, the easiest way to test if starter is the culprit is to push-start the car. But in your case, since its auto, it has to be started while car is stationary.

But if the car refused to start after replacing the head gasket (and the starter was good then), I would say that replacing the car may not solve the non-start issue, even though it may contribute.

Your CKP (what Peugeot calls RPM sensor) would make the car not to start if it fails. But that your engine simply overheated shouldnt damage the sensor. I dont know about VW, but Peugoet mounts their RPM sensor on Bellhousing. Oh! CKP means Crankshaft Position Sensor.

If one were to diagnose the car with info you provided so far, one would suspect the engine timing. Probably, it was not well timed after the head gasket replacement, since the timing belt/chain would have to be removed before the cylinder head comes out.

If you answer the above questions, we can able to direct you were and were need to be checked, even if they are to be done by your mechanics.

Where is the car now at Onitsha? Mgbuka-Obosi? I grew up in Awka and Enugu towns, so I know exactly what you are going through.

Your car is OBD II compliant. But finding where you can scan the car in Onitsha may be a little bit difficult. But note that not all OBD II scan tools can scan the Golf III (though I dont know your engine/electrical system). But I have tried my 2 scan tools on a Golf III with 1.8 L engine, but both couldnt communiacte with the ECUs, because they dont have the ECU protocol. But then, your car issue may not be an electrical matter. But it wouldnt hurt to know what a scanner has to say.

Good luck!

Car TalkRe: I'm Getting Tired Of This Car!!!!!!!!! by Ikenna351(m): 5:00pm On Dec 06, 2013
Op,

The fisrt problem seems like an IAC (Idle Air Control) issue. I don't know what system yours is, but if it has IAC, I would suggest you clean it with Carb cleaner, lubricate it and re-install. It should stop the engine from going off when additional load is added or when de-accelerating. It could be that your IAC is stuck closed. Adjusting Throttle stop to increase idle speed will not fix the issue, even though it may appear fixed. It would also increase the fuel consumption, since the rpm will be high at idle. If your car were manual transmission, You would find it difficult to shift into gear 1 and reverse gear.

As for your cooling system, it appears air is trapped in that cooling system. Did you work on the cooling system that needed removing and refilling the cooling system with coolant? Probably, it happened when the thermostat was removed? Or is the thermostat still in there? Anyway, you need to bleed the cooling system.

From your description of the cooling system, it seems yours have coolant reservoir where the coolant is poured in, not directly into the Radiator? If that is so, check the coolant reservoir cover seal. If the seal has broken, absence or not so good, replace the cover.

What I explained above is how I would troubleshoot a Peugeot with similar issues. So I dont know if the same can be applied to VW. Good luck!

Then, I would suggest you go for the EW family engine of any of the 3 below:

1. EW 7 : 115 hp.

2. EW 10: 138 or 145 hp.

3. EW 12: 170 hp.

The above listed engines are good and are all 4 cylinder petrol engines. You can choose any of the 3, depending on how heavy right footed you can be behind the wheel. EW engines succeeded XU series. An improvement on XU engines.

Trac: If the diagnosis turns out inconclusive, then find someone else. Chances are: no diagnoses are being done. No help can be given online. You can waste your time and prove me wrong but it's mere logic. The competent service man will not return the vehicle after his care in the state you have mentioned. If all you want to do is remove each symptom, you can running around in favour of achieving that objective. If you really want to get your vehicle fixed, a competent mechanic is not hard to find. Someone will recommend one to you. A competent mechanic will seeks for tricks; then, he can work on the vehicle. Don't be deceived by what the web offers. There are proper ways to do so. The two mechanics you hired did not work to standard. The vehicle has to be seen onsite and interacted upon to make any conclusions whatsoever. Tests will be run. So, the cheapest route is [still] to find the competent workman that will resolve ALL the problems with no pragmatic (without application of logic) mindset.
Trac,

You have been going round the section, throwing insults to some Car Talk members indirectly, and trying to be smart about it with grammer. I was hoping you would get tired and drop it. But I was wrong.

Car Talk was created to help Nigerians discuss their cars, both negatively or/and positively, issues with their cars and solutions to get those issues sorted/fixed. And so far, we have been progressing on that. A lot of members have gotten the help here in Car Talk they couldnt get out their in workshops, from fellow members. You have no clue what Nigerians go through in the hands of some clowns that call temselves mechanics, so you need to keep your thoughts to yourself on how members can't get help online.

Car Talk is not my property, neither Nairaland is. It's someone's means of making money. Don't go about destroying someone's business. If members stop visiting Car Talk to sought for solutions to their car issues, we could as well ask the Admin, Seun, to close Car Talk, so that we all can go back to Autos section, for those who would remain in Nairaland if Car Talk seize to exist.

There are so many online car forums, if not in hundreds. People go there to help themselves in keeping their cars in good shape as long as they want/could, yet you left them them and chose to start your campaign against online car diagnosis on a mere section of a forum, that is not even a full forum. Why not start your campaign there? We have Toyotanation. Start from there. Sometimes, you think we dont know how Americans truly fix/repair their cars in those "cheap" dealership workshops. Of course, all those Youtube videos on DIY were made by Nigerians and posted online.

Nairaland members bring their Peugeots with injection issues to me. I diagnose, fix them and charge them for that. Those that would require engine to be dropped or more serious internal engine issues, i would direct them to a good Peugeot mechanic i can vouch for. But it has not stopped me from coming online, Car Talk, to offer suggestions or solutions to issues I could diagnose online, depending on how technically minded the individual/member is. So let's not kill that spirit in Car Talk, what sustains this section.

You have a problem, seeked for help or solution to solve the probem, but you prefer "what you want to hear" and not "what you need to hear" to fix your problem".

Paul Walker, the edgy action hero with all-American good looks who became an international star with "The Fast & the Furious" movie franchise, has died in a fiery car collision in Southern California. He was 40 years old.

The sad news was confirmed Saturday night by Walker's camp via the actor's official Twitter account.

According to the statement put out by Walker's team and also posted on Facebook, the actor was "attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car.

"We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news," the statement continued. "Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences."

[Related: 'Fast' Stars and More Tweet Reactions to Paul Walker's Death]The identity of the second victim, a male, has not been released by authorities; but numerous reports have identified the driver as Roger Rodas, the owner of Walker's auto-racing team, Always Evolving.

“Him and his buddy, his brother in arms at heart, just decided to joyride, take a spin," Antonio Holmes, an onlooker at the event who identified himself as a friend of Walker's, told the local Santa Clarita Valley Signal newspaper. "Something we all do. We're all car enthusiasts. ... We’re all here driving, enjoying each other, and God must’ve needed help."

According to witnesses, the red Porsche Carrera GT carrying Walker and his friend lost control and slammed into a tree and then a light pole. Walker, an unapologetic car lover, had been participating in the "Winter Drive" for Reach Out Worldwide, a toy drive and car meet charity event for disadvantaged children. Walker was also involved in humanitarian efforts in Chile and Haiti after the devastating earthquakes in both countries.

"Speed was a factor in the solo vehicle collision," the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said in a updated statement late Saturday.

Earlier, the sheriff's department and county coroner confirmed that two people were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Santa Clarita, north of Los Angeles, around 3:30 p.m. PT.

"When they arrived, deputies found the vehicle engulfed in flames. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded, extinguished the fire and subsequently located two victims inside the vehicle," Sheriff's Deputy Kim Manatt said in a statement. "The victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the collision is under investigation."

The tall, blond-haired, blue-eyed heartthrob was a California native, hailing from the L.A. suburb of Glendale. He began appearing in TV commercials when he was just a toddler. He guest starred on shows like "Highway to Heaven" and "Charles in Charge" as a teen, and scored his first leading role in 1998's "Meet the Deedles." This lead to higher profile roles in features like "Pleasantville," "Varsity Blues," and "She's All That" in the late '90s before cementing his status as a leading man in 2001's "The Fast and the Furious."

Walker starred in all but the third installment of the "Fast & Furious" movies, including the seventh chapter which is still in production and scheduled for release next summer. He also received critical acclaim for his performances in 2006's "Running Scared" and in Clint Eastwood's WWII drama, "Flags of Our Fathers." His next film, "Hours," about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, is scheduled to open on Dec. 13.

"Fast" running mate Vin Diesel posted an image of him and Walker on Instagram with the caption: "Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace."

gabng: Thanks Ikenna.

Considering it shares engine parts with the EW10 406, what is your take on availability and affordability of parts?

I stay in Lagos

Thanks
Availability of EW10 parts shouldn't be an issue in any part of Nigeria. Most D9 and 407 on our roads have EW10 engine, including some 307. Or have you forgotten that PAN assembled and sold these cars in Nigeria too?

As for affordability. Sorry, genuine Peugeot parts are pricey. Peugeots are not cheap cars to run, if that's what you are asking.

Good morning.

Car TalkRe: Project: Nissan Deisel Engine Conversion To Petrol by Ikenna351(m):
If I were you, i would suspend this conversion untill i get the Electrical workshop manual, wiring schematics or diagram of that Petrol engine you want to swap in, including the books of the present Diesel engine in the car. I would first study the books to be sure i can swap in the petrol engine wiring harness of the engine i want to swap in. I would also study the wiring schematics of the entire car, to know how to modify the petrol engine wiring harness to work. Then, I would go ahead with the conversion.

Any mechanic telling you that such conversion or swapping a different EFI engine in another car with different engine, will be very easy is simply deceiving you. The mechanical conversion is not where the problem is, but the electrical one. The wiring transfer wont be a simple drop. There has to be some modifications for it to work. For example, the wiring schematics will tell you which of the wires sends positive and grounds supply to the engine ECU, which will be different from the present harness in the car. The schematics will show you all the ground wires in the petrol engine harness, otherwise if all those wires are not grounded, the ECU, the sensors or injection components will never function well, which will make the engine run very bad, consume excess fuel and eventually dies. You won't even have the chance to enjoy the engine before it gives up, due to wrong engine wiring harness connections.

If you are not sure you can get the wiring conversion done properly, it would be better to find a fuel carburetted engine and swap in.

Trac: It is true people will not go through "trailer-loads" of texts to sift what's necessary. It is very understandable. However, the purpose of publishing text on this thread is for everyone; not for the trending moment alone but future referencing as well. Then again, the limitations of this thread forbid easier references. Stickies would have resolved a lot of the undesired outcomes. This will avoid rummages. It will also resolve to near-zero the repetitive posts.

It's just a suggestion. It may/mayn't sound okay but it's my two-cents smiley
Sticky! Seriously? Unless I didn't get you right.

So, MB thread needs to be stickied right? What happens to those important threads too like Peugoet, VW, Honda, Mazda, Toyota, BMW, etc.? So all those threads should be stickied as well? Or only MB thread should be stickied because its more important than the others? What do you think will happen in the 1st page of this Car Talk when all these threads are stickied?

When a member asked questions or seeks a solution to an issue that has been treated earlier, you can ask the member to go back a bit and search for the solution to the issue already discussed. Or you refer him to the exact page of the thread if you know. And there is nothing wrong in asking one to go back and start from the beginning to find solution to his Benz issue(s), which will be beneficial to the member, knowing other tips or knowledge he/she acquire by the time he/she gets to the last page. Thats why we have Libraries for reserach; thats why we have Car Talk Library.

Visit Peugeot thread to see how we do it over there. For example:

https://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-thread-psa-community/41

https://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-thread-psa-community/42

Breaking this thread or creating MB thread II will make this very thread meaningless. All the important discussion and tips on MB on this thread will be lost. Because attention will be focused on the new thread, and the very thing you guys are complaining here will take effect in the new thread, since you will have to start all over to repeat what has been discussed here in the new thread, instead of moving on.

Anyway, like you noted, just a suggestion. But note that other similar threads are moving on and no house members are complaing, like Peugeot is now on 42 pages.

But if you guys really want an MB II thread, you can present your case to the Admin. You guys may be lucky and he will grant your request. This is my last comment on this.

Car TalkRe: Mercedes Benz Thread by Ikenna351(m):
aikerism: About the issue of thermostat, I'm already looking for a Behr 87degC thermostat. I am finding it difficult locating same as I hve combed the whole Gudu market here in Abuja yet no show? I will take my search to Apo mechanic village later today, hope to hit the thermojackpot there...
See, I like keeping my cars to factory, but am not an OEM freak. I really dont understand all these insistence on Behr thermostat.

My ZN3J thermostat failed sometime last year. I ordered for one from US, because I didnt think I would find it here in Nigeria, after a few attempt. While I was waiting for the Thermostat to arrive, I stopped using the car. Was using only my 2nd car then, the 605 V6. Unfortunately, NIPOST staffs entered strike, since it was shipped via NIPOST, meaning I wont be able to use the car again till the thermostat arrives. One day, i needed to go to Gudu market to buy parts for someone. I decided to go with the failed thermostat, to try my luck for the last time. I checked all the Peugeot shops there, but none of had it. As I was about to leave the market, it struck me. "Since Benz and Peugeot use Bosch parts, why not try Benz shops as well?, I thought to myself. The very first Benz shop I enetered, they had the damn thermostat that grounded my Baby. And the price was just 1k. It was Whaler brand. Unfortunately, the opening temperature was lower than the failed OEM one. But I decided that I would rather use a lower opening temperature thermostat than run that engine without thermostat. I bought the Whaler thermostat. Got home, tested it in hot water and it worked. I installed it. Yes, it was taking the temp guage longer to rise to 90C this time, due to the lower opening temperature, but it was better than none. I started using the car with the Whaler thermostat, while waiting for the one from US which had 82 C opening temperature, higher than the OEM/factory/follow-come that is 79 C. While the Whaler t-stat was in, I travelled to Anambra and spent about 5 days, shuttling between Enugu and Anambra states while I was there, daily. Even when i drove back to Abuja, I still had the Whaler t-stats for 2 months more before NIPOST staffs called off their strike and the one from US arrived, before I now removed the Whaler one, since the opening temp was lower than what the engine needs. I even came to this very thread and stated my experience with the Whaler t-stat. It was even au.hanson that confirmed to me that if I had looked harder, I would have found 82 C t-stat , which was the one he was using then. I still kept the removed Whaler t-stat as spare, pending when I remember to look for another t-stat with 79 or 82 C for a spare, be it Whaler brand or not.

Now, I dont understand why you guys must insist on Behr. Is it that there is a chemical Benz uses to produce their engine blocks which will kill off Whaler t-stat as soon as its installed in the t-stat housing? Even if the Whaler t-stat is not as relaible as Behr, does it mean it will fail before its due for replacement? I may not know anything about Benz, but I do know that T-stat is a renewal part, just like Timing belt. You dont wait for it to fail before you replace it. Why not buy 2 and keep 1 in the car as spare, incase it fails on you? Is it not better to have the unreliable t-stat in the system than run that engine without t-stat? Do you actually truly know the effect of running engine without t-stat?

What keeps cars on the road after their production ends is not OEM, but aftermarkets. What keeps some cars that have aged more than 50 years we see on car days displayed in foreign countries, is not the OEM or Aftermarkets, but practicality. Most parts in those have been modified. Some have their engines and transmissions removed and the modern ones swapped in, just to keep the car running strong, and most times, running stronger than when they were driven out of show rooms. OEM parts doesnt mean they perform better than Aftermarkets. It simply means they have been tested by the car manufacturer and recommended ok. I would try Aftermarket, if OEM is not available in my locality, unless its too fake to damage my car.

I, we can only suggest or advice, but how you keep your car(s) running in whatever shape you want, is your call to make.

guysmilee134: thanks Ikenna for the response. infact he checked the BSM but all to no avail. i dont think he checked the BSI relays or rather i didnt notice him do it! so worst case scenerio if im to think of replacing the BSI unit how much would all the components cost? and is it available in the dealerships? we scanned the lion and the BSi didnt communicate, a host of other ecus' also didnt communicate.
It should be available in Peugoet dealership, but it will cost $$$$. ASD Motors had it sometime last year or so when i asked them (have forgotten the price though). But they didnt have a complet set then. I think 406 engine ECU was out of stock then, but the new BSI Unite and Key set were available. Will find out and get back to you.

But you can as well get the BSI set/kit (BSI Unit, Engine ECU and Keys) from a scrapped 406 at Used parts markets. It should cost less. Difference is that it will double your mileage on the instrument panel. All you need is to swap the transponders in the 2 keys. You dont need to change the switch, but the set will come with the switch anyway.

If you are buying a used one, you will need to get the VIN of the car they were removed from and the DAM number as well, for PP2000 diagnosis. Otherwise, you wont be able to diagnose or use PP2000 on that car anymore, even if the car starts running again.

A new set means you will have to take it to a Peugeot dealership to code the 3 components and update the engine ECU software with the last update from Peugeot. The new ones will be blank, until reprogrammed and updated.

But before going down this route of replacement, check the relays and fuses on the BSI unit. The BSI unit is behind the fuse box under the steering wheel.

Car TalkRe: Peugeot: Cars With Attitude! by Ikenna351(op):
Ordinally, there is nothing wrong with AL4. But technically, its a complex Auto box. Meaning, if anything goes wrong in that box, you will need an AL4 specialist to rebuild it, not just an auto box specialist. The solenoid which usually cause the AL4 failure is not available in Nigeria, unless you can source it outside the country. But if you can afford to replace the entire box "if" it fails, then the issue is resolved.

*Note. There are people i know that have driven their Lions with AL4 & 4HP20 auto transmissions for more than 2 years now and they have not experienced any transmission issues. So, it's a black and white thing that it must fail during your ownership of the car. They probably have been rebuilt or replaced in Europe before they acquired them, by the previous owners. Or that they are just lucky.

Find in page 8 of this thread what the AL4 solenoid looks like:
