peace777: @ikennaSounds like a timing issue. The car will not start if the CKP (Crankshaft Position Sensor) is faulty. Thats where the ECU gets its electronic timing. But since yours have Camshaft too, which does similar work with the CKP, it may have something to do with the two not signalling each other anymore. The pp2000 should fix that, i believe. Ikenna. |

Did you mistakenly tried to start the car leaving the driver's door open? Ikenna. |
peace777: @IkennaWill call you then, so that we arrange how to meet. Thanks. Ikenna. |
@ peace777 Are you in Abuja? Ikenna. |
kels on point: Here in my area we have a lot of Yoruba folks driving cabs and they like putting a lot of fancies on their car and make use of the horn frequently in fact if their horn is faulty they consider it as a major fault. One interesting thing about them is that they choose a particular brand of car they use for transportation like when i was small i do see them with datsun, from that they shifted over to Mazda and now they are gradually migrating over to this Toyota privia. Why do dey act that way?Anti-tribal threads are not allowed in Car Talk. Better watch it! Ikenna. |
Sometime in 2011, i was travelling back to Abuja, in one of my trips to East that year. I was packed at a check point somewhere in Kogi state. The Police man asked for my driver's Licence and vehicle papers. After glancing at the documents, he asked me to open the car bonnet. I did. He then asked me to show him where the engine number was engraved on the engine. I told him i didnt know and i wasnt interested to find out. That if he really wanted to see it, he would have to find it himself. So, which one concern me! Well, he looked at the engine bay, sigh and gave me back my papers. Trust V6 engine! The whole engine bay was covered with the engine. Where would he have started to look for the numbers? I gathered online that to see the engine number on that engine, the engine will have to be pulled down from the car. As soon as he gave me back the car documents and my driver's Licence, he said " Oga, anything for me?" "Now you are talking", i mutered. I like those of them that simply beg for "greener pastures", rather than try to waste my time. Ikenna. |
If your car starter solenoid fails, you will get this symptom your car is having. If any of the 2 starter brushes fails, you will experience the same issue. But one important thing auto technicians tend to overlook is the starter relay or how many volts the solenoid receives from ignition switch via relay. If the solenoid receives less than 12v, the starter wont crank the engine. It will only click. If i were you, i would test the wire from starter relay to the starter solenoid, with digital multimeter, to know how volts the solenoids receives from the key switch when the switch is turned to crank the engine. If its not upto 12v, make sure the wire that feeds the starter relay constant 12v from battery is in tack, i.e, it reads 12v. Make sure that the wire from relay to the solenoid is not broken or partially damaged. If i were you, i would crank the engine direct from the battery positive terminal head. If the engine cranks when you do this, then the issue is not with the starter, but with relay, connection or ignition switch. Ikenna. |
peace777: i have a Peugeot 607 hdi 2003, it has a new engine but refuses to start, get fuel to the pump but nothing after that. i had it put on fault reader and came up with cam and crank sensor out of sync. does anyone know how to sort this out. i ive been stuck with the car stiiting at the garage for 3weeks.This is what i have been saying. If you know you are not ready to learn how to fix a Diesel car yourself, dont bother buying one, because you got no one to repair the car for you when something goes wrong. HDI has less electronics than petrol engine, hence, it gives less engine management issues. But the parts cost fortune, when eventually any engine component fails. One thing a diesel engine hates is air in the fuel line/system. Once air gets trapped, the engine wont start. Even when it starts, will be giving you a lot of running issues. Your 607 HDI issue sounded like air in the fuel system, or maynot be. Have you tried to bleed the fuel system? Unfortunately, i know little about HDIs. Ikenna. |
bigx: ask ikennaUnfortunately, i have not been able to install windows xp on my newly purchased windows 8 laptop. The person i gave it to partition the HDD and install the windows xp is not yet succesful, since last week. So, please, does anyone know how to install windows xp on windows 8? I bought the diagbox & laptop since last month, December 2012, but yet to install the pp2000, since it runs only on windows xp, while my laptop came with windows 8 as default operating system. I gathered online that its possible to install windows xp on windows 8, using windows 8 Client Hyper-V. If you can do that for me, i will be scanning your Lion for free with pp2000 ![]() Seriously, i need to start using the diagbox. Its killing me that i have it, yet cant use it. Ikenna. |
Siena: Yes, it's turbo, and makes 190 hp stock. A remap will make 230 hp, and much more with supporting mods. The US boys are running the 1,8T with up to 600 hp at the crank. The V6/V8 songs, I would call it. So sweet to listen to when they rev above 3k rpm. And they rev smoothly to red zone, unlike some I4s that would start to sound harsh when they rev above 4k rpm. Ikenna. |
Siena: Thanks bro. Still, I miss the power and low-down torque a large capacity engine gives. But that'll be addressed pretty soon.I can understand. But since its Turbo, i thought that should have been taken care of, to some extent? Ikenna. |
Congrats! Ikenna. |
So easy the way these clowns decieve you people! The engine drive belt didnt just break. It was broken by the mechanic, his carelessness. The car manufacturer were not daft when they designed and produced that car. They knew the belt would break someday. So, there is no how they would run design it such a way that whenever the belt breaks, it will damage the sensor harness around. The mechanic, while replacing the failed oil seal, must have removed the sensors harness from their secured locations and left them hanging around the belt or the pulleys, without putting them back as they were after the work was done. When the engine was started, help me guess what must have happened. Engine ECUs usually have a constant supply of ground,as long as the negative battery terminal head is connected. If the ECU ground wire touched any naked positive wire or the wires were wrongly connected, it will damage the ECU without a blink. This where Peugeot beats other brands. Peugeot has each wire in their cars stamped with numbers for easier identification. For issues like this, one will simply trace the sensor the cut off wires should go to or connected by checking the source. Its always advisable to disconnect any of the battery terminals while working on a car electric. Even a small spark on any of the ECU wires is enough to fry the ECU. The best way to find out the state of your ECU is by testing the ground pulse wire from ECU on any of the injectors with Digital multimeter, to know if the ECU is still sending ground pulse to the injectors. Likewise, i would test to know if the spark plugs are still getting volts from coil packs or distributor by grounding any of them and crank the engine. The result of these tests will tell you whether you engine ECU is the culprit or not. Also, there are other ways of testing ECUs manually. But you can simply scan it. But i can tell if the scanner will connect with the ECU, if the ECU is dead. Ikenna |
bhurlarh: Was driving along a freeway and suddenly the "service engine soon" light came on, all of a sudden the car won't respond to the accelerator and the car begins to drop speed. It moves very slowly and has below 1000 rounds per minute and doesn't go above that when you floor the gas. It starts up and does every other thing normally, but won't accelerate..any idea what could be wrong?Could it be your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)? Never heard of such symptom, but only the TPS could come to my mind. But in my car, if i disconnect the throttle switch, the engine would still rev when accelerated, except that the rpm will be high at idle. I believe my cars electrical system are different from yours. Lets wait and hear from others. But i would advice you scan the car. Even though the warning light is on, i hope the throttle cable is still in tack? Or is your thottle cableless? For a Peugeot with AL4 auto trans, the transmission will go into Limp mode, if the trans ECU detects that the trans is failing or about to fail. Meaning it will be giving a similar symptom like yours. But in Peugeot case, i think the engine can still rev but the car wont move, i think. Anyway, am not into Japs. I believe other Japs users could have experienced the same issue, if its a common problem. Ikenna. |
Hello ikenna, sorry for derailing your thread, sort of.please could you help me on this? I did an OBD scan on an 07 accord I just bought so I could be aware of any fault to enable me service before use. The scan came out with these codes: 1.P2185... Engine coolant temp.sensor2 circuit high 2.P0141...02sensor heater circuit malfunction bank1 sensor2. 3.P0457...evaporative emission system leak detected(fuel cap loose/off). It was observed that the fuel consumption was unusually high. Please are these serious problems? Can the normal roadside mechanics fix these? I don't really know about cars as this would be my first, and I don't want any mechanic to damage my car. Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanx.
You know this thread isnt supposed to here. Anyway, 1. CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor). This sensor, usually located on thermostat housing, determines the amount of fuel that goes into the combustion chambers via injectors. It signals to ECU the temperature of coolant/cooling system. With the values it sends to ECU, the ECU uses it to command the injectors amount of fuel to inject in when cooling system/engine is cold, warm or at optimal temperature. That is to say, the CTS tells the engine ECU when engine is cold, warm or optimal engine temperature, and the ECU uses those values or signals it receives from the sensor to control the engine fuel consumption. So when the sensor fails, it will always be signaling to ECU that the engine temperature is to cold and the ECU will constantly be commanding the injectors to inject excess fuel, since a cold engine needs excess fuel to start and run, but will reduce as the coolant temp reduces. So, i believe your car is having an excessive fueling issue,; running very thirsty. 2. Oxygen sensor: Its also an injection sensor that determines the amount of fuel that goes into the combustion chambers. It primary function is to fine tune the amount of fuel that goes in. It does it via the exhaust. If the sensor senses excess fuel in the exhaust, after the engine has warmed (when the CTS is now signalling to ECU that engine temperature is warm, hot or optimal temp to reduce fuel that goes in), it will fine tune and brings it back to normal consumption. Its function usually starts when CTS has done its first part of its job, since the oxygen sensor heater will still have to heat before it starts it work well. So, if failed, you will still get the excessive fueling issue. But note that if the CTS or anyother fuel related injection component fail, and the car is still been used for a long in that condition, it will kill the o2 sensor (oxygen sensor). So, it could be that the failure of your CTS led to failure of your o2, since black smoke hinders its smooth operation. Please, do know that o2 can still fail without the failure of other injection components. o2 sensor can also be damaged by bad fuel (low octane level), which is why failure of o2 is high in Nigeria because of poor quality of fuel sold here for us. If i were you, I would still confirm with Digital Multimeter if those two sensors have really failed. Because if their sockets corrode, you will get those codes and symptoms as well. Cleaning the sensors will fix the problems, if they are the culprits. Each of the 2 sensors have factory values when engine is cold and hot. I would test them with DMM to be sure they dont give those values again before replacing them, since they are not cheap sensors. I think o2 sensor cost around 20k or so. So, you need to be sure you are buying and replacing what actually has failed. If you dont know to test those sensors, i can teach you, but not in this thread. Ikenna. |
gmyguy: i cant say for the technical jib-jabba, but from practical driving, the golf is just of a slight performance higher, i really doubt his 05 would stand either, besides, the 5 is an old car...i am talking about vw 96, 2.0 GLS, the turbo was one of the race cars used in Fast and Furious 2. abeg, which movie dem don use 505? 504 still show for James Bond...505 nkoIts obvious, from your comments on this thread that you were born yesterday, too young to appreciate good things. Of course you were not there in those decades, so i wont blame you for not having a clue of how foolish your posts here sounded. Seriously, so you consider only vehicles that appear in movies as only powerful ones? Not difficult to tell who is still been breastfed. Ikenna. |
neutralist: What is limp mode pls??When the auto trans ECU shuts the transmission down and stops the car from moving, to prevent severe damage to the transmission, when the ECU senses a failing auto trandmission component or sensors. Ikenna. |
ehie: LOL..i filled up my tank last week and friday, and i have fuel on quarted tank now...can u try that with passat,i will probably fill my tank upper monday, and the distance between my house to work is about 45 minutes without holdup, with holdup roughly and hour and i go to work everyday, however i do not use the all the time...all these ur calculations na u sabiYour posts in this thread showed that you know nothing about cars, yet you keep trying to prove a point you dont even understand. How you could compare two cars fuel economy without first knowing their engine capacities, engine cubic/litre, no. of cylinders, naturally aspirated or turbo, car weight, tyre sizes, state of their injection systems, etc. Its obvious that your Passat was having a serious injection issue, but you failed to solve the problem. The truth is, not everyone deserves every car. If you dont know how to handle or maintain an EFI car, dont bother owing one. Go for fuel carburreted engine car. Newer cars have made diagnosis so easy that you dont need a mechanic to do repairs on your car anymore, except the major repairs, yet to some folks still cant tell a spark plug from injector, when they have internet access. What do we even use internet for? To check to know the next Governor rumoured to have died? Smh! While the Passast was giving you issues, did you bother to scan it? Did you bother to take it to a reputable VW workshop? Why should you complain when you chose an under mango tree mechanic, i believe. No offence, but Euro cars are not for unserious car owners. youngchopper: bro we aint talkin about who sold more or not. Na 9ja terms we dey yarn. Believe it or not japan as cum to stay. They ar far beta dan german in terms of maintanace here in nigeria. I laff wen peeps on these forum talk about handlin, na 4 which road u wan test ur german machine? Truth as to be said japan win it hands down. Av ownd both france , german and japan. Will honestly tell u dat japan is da best in every rankin. Dont just wana remenber my puj 607 dat always chase me in ma dream. NB. Av read ikennaz trip story n all ar rubish to me cuz he always encounter 1 fault or the other wit his car, if not he as experience in mechanical he would av cause the day out of his fox. My japan VQ 3.5l as neva 4 once stoped me on high way, av done longer trips it moves like jet. Wat am saying in conclusion is dat every body is entitle to his taste. My 607 brake pad goes 4or 20k. And u want nigerians to petronise such rubish brand? Everytin in life is luck. U might use car A or B and it wount giv u anyproblem dats ur luck period! What a terrible mistake you made! I tried so had to avoid this post, but you just spoilt the whole thing. You said my trip stories were all rubbish because i encountered one problem or the other with my Lions, meaning, none of them is reliable enough to be travelled with. Do we really have to allow our emotions make us sound foolish just to prove a point? You should have kept me out of it, because am going to embarrass you. Na you find my trouble! The first trip story thread, journey with my 605 V6 to East. I stated that the car radiator electric fans were originally a used before i bought the car as Nigerian used. The fans original connections were bypassed and connected to be spinning constantly as soon as ignition is switched. So, as soon as i got the car, i reconnected the fans to run as factory. But i had to buy and use new flexible wire to run the connections, since the original wires of the fans connections to the trigger were cut off and removed. Now due to the terrible traffic jam i encoutered on the journey between Gwagwalada and Lokoja, the fans were running often and considering the fans need high volts from their relays to spin faster, the new wires i installed couldnt bear the high volts, so they gradually got burnt and break, which happened 3 days later, while i was on Enugu-Onitsha highway. When i pulled out the wires, it was only the new wires i installed that got burnt. But the small remaining wires the car came with that i connected the new ones to make up the cut off wires, didnt even show any sign of burn, even till today. Now, is it the car's fault? Did the car came with the fake wire that got burnt? What is your point then? The 2nd trip story with my 505 V6, just last month. The car viscous fan bearing failed in 2011. Instead of replacing the bearing or the entire viscous coupling, i decided to convert it to electric fan, which i gathered releases the sapped hp of the mechanical from the engine and gives better fuel economy. So i went to APO, tried France line, but didnt get one that marched the radiator. I went to Japanese line and got one. I installed it myself and used the radiator sensor as the trigger. But because they have opened or worked on the fan before i bought and installed, i didnt know that they forgot to lock the fans blade firmly with a washer. Now one the journey, i stated how i encountered a terrible traffic at 9th mile. The long spining of the fan in traffic made the bolt that was driving the blades pulled off and fell inside the fan's motor, since it was not tight enough on the blade housing. I opened it and got it fixed. Again, whose fault it is? The car? Did the car came with the fan? Did the failure of the fan madesthe car unreliable, even though it was caused by stupid auto technician that worked on the fan before it was sold to me, which i didnt even know it was not tokunbo? Next time pick someone else, when seeking attention. Because i know Peugoet, especially my car, damn well. Stick to your japs and say the little you know. Did you try to find out how many trips i have done with those Lions since i own them? So you thought those two trips were the only trips i have done with them? What a joke! Ikenna. |

I have taught about 9 persons how to drive. 7 of them were women. Couldnt go through that nightmare anymore since last year, when a close female friend wanted me to teach her how to drive. Of course, the answer was capital NO. She now hates me for that, but that doesnt bother me. She even wanted me to use my car for it. What a joke! Are these not the same husbands that were proud of driving and braking auto trans cars with left leg, that would teach their wives how to drive? What do you think they will produce at the end of the day? Expert female drivers? Some of us, the males, dont even know how to properly drive, yet it wont be an issue to transfer dangerous driving skills to the female folks? A former colleague of mine have driven his Lexus auto trans for years. He and his siblings sometime 2 years ago bought a tok car for their dad, who lives outside Abuja. It was a manual trans car. This guy wanted to enjoy the car for a while before taking it to his dad. Unfortunately, he has been driving for years, but didnt know how to move a manual trans car. A shameful thing to tell people. Anyway, he went and got someone, a friend, to teach him with the dad's car, how to drive the manual trans dad's car. The first day he drove the car to work, i observed that the car would jerk and stall, each time he wanted to move from stationary. Initially, i thought it was just the normal thing with learners and manual trans. But, he later told me that the person teaching him how to drive instructed him to always move a car with the 2nd gear, when in stationary. That the gear 1 is like an auxilliary gear, meant to be used to move a car when its stucked. I couldnt believe what i heard! I tried to correct him, but he kept insisting that his friend knew better. Well, i let him be. But i advised him to stop using the car and send it to his dad, unless he would be ready to replace the clutch plate when he would be through with the abuse, before sending the car to his dad. Of course, he kept on with his thing. It was his call to make not mine, anyway. Weeks later, the dad sent someone to come and pick the car. On the way to the state where the dad was staying, the clutch plate failed and the car stopped moving. Of course, they had to tow the car for the rest of the journey, i believed. He felt so ashamed of himself when he was giving me the update about the clutch plate failure. HE thought i would say " I told you so", but i just nodded my head and changed the topic. It wasnt my call, after all. You may think you are saving cost by not sending your babe or wife to driving school, but you will end up spending more to fix back what would be damaged after she must dealt with your car, while you are teaching her with your car or family car. Not to mention all the bashes on the vehicle body. We do forget that its difficult to get a car back to its original shape. Places or spots that were panel beated would always rust later. But like my former colleague said indirectly to me, it wasnt my call or my decision to determine what he should do with his car or his dad's. Am just letting you know the consequencies you could face with that your call. Ikenna. |
