Ultrasonic injector cleaning is the best method, but not the only method. But it will give you a good result: good spray pattern. You also get to see if any of the injectors is having internal leak.

Carb cleaner can clean injector. But how that is done, is where the problem Nigerians are facing lies. Dont tell me that spraying the carb cleaner when injector is powered is enough to clean the injector, when the small filter on top of the Injector was not removed beforre the cleaning starts. The filter can be removed with a special tool designed for it. If the filter is too clogged that cleaning it wont help, replacement is the only option. In fact, the filters are meant to be replaced once they come out. Worse case, it can also be flushed from the bottom, for the cleaner to flow out from the other end. Am yet to see any of our clowns doing all these, which would have been an alternative to ultrasonic cleaning.

Injectors O-Rings (top & bottom), spacers and pintle caps, are supposed to be removed before the carb cleaner cleaning starts. And they are not supposed to go back in on the injectors after the cleaning. New ones should go in instead.

By the way, its wrong to power injectors directly from the battery terminals. The 12 volts from the battery may damage the injectors coil. The ECU supplies ground pulse to the injectors which is 5 volts (at least, thats what mine supplies). The best is to get a DC adapter and reduce the volts, then power it off the car.

All I have explained above is a DIY thing.Something you can do yourself, to avoid series of nightmares after visiting the clowns for injector cleaning. But if you think that you are not upto it (which i dont believe), stay away from those chemicals and always make sure your fuel doesnt enter the reserve tank before you refill. The quality of fuel they sell in Nigeria is bad, yes, but am not sure that is the cause of clogged injectors here. Unless you want to tell me I have a Ghanian fuel station in my backyard where i buy fuel from. Otherwise, why havent i suffered the injector issues?

Car TalkRe: "Servicing The Injector Nozzles" - Meaning In Nigerian Context? by Ikenna351(m):
My hussy always insists that I use an injector cleaner when refuelling. I did it for a while and stopped because I felt it was a waste since none of my friends or loved ones used it yet experienced no issues with their cars. After some time my car began to have trouble accelerating even when I hit the gas pedal to its end point the car wouldn't accelerate well. I told my hussy about it and he asked if I'd been using the injector cleaner. I lied that I always did yet he insisted that I hadn't been using it. Subsequently, i refuelled three times using the injector cleaner, to my surprise my acceleration improved greatly.
@ikenna: I'm concerned by your post. Are you of the opinion that I avoid using injector cleaner especially considering my experience?
What your car is suffering from now is the so called acid you called injector cleaner.

When you switch off the engine, fuel will be trapped in the injector. But because of the bad chemical/acid you have introduced in the fuel system or mixed with the fuel, it will form some stuffs (like a residue or something) that will block or clog the tiny hole/nozzle via which fuel sprays into the intake manifold. But when you start the car again, the chemical will push off the stuff a little, and fuel will start flowing via the injectors again, even though not as its supposed to. Anytime you stopped using the acid, it will clogged the system, not only the injectors, hence the hesitation you are now experiencing when not using the so called cleaner.

Bad fuel injector cleaner affects intake valves in the cylinder head. When the engine cools off, it will form like a gum or adhessive on the valve seats, making the intake valves sticky, not to move freely next time the engine starts running. The issues bad injector cleaners bring starts immediately after the engine cools off. To avoid the issues, dont ever introduce it in your fuel system.

To the best of my knowledge, the Best Injector Clearner worldwide, so far, is Techron, a Chevron Product, mostly found in North American market. Unfortunately, you cant find it in Nigeria. A friend of mine in US sent one can of Techron to me from LA, last year as gift. But i have never had cause to use it. For the past 2 years, my car has never had clogged injectors issue. Once in a while, i would pull out the 6 injectors, leaving them attached to the fuel rails. I would check the spray pattern and would use the opportunity to check if any is having internal leak. And they would check out ok.

If you are the type that only refuel when your car dies on the road because of lack of fuel or you are the type that visits fuel stations only when fuel reserve tank warning lit on the instrument cluster, then prepare to be having issues with your injectors. If you are the type that enjoy pouring in every liquid with injector cleaner stamped on the label, be prepared too. You get what you asked for!

That your car is misfiring, hesitating or stalling, doesnt mean your injectors are bad. A lot of EFI components, when faulty, would do the same. Stop listening to those clowns!

If you change your fuel filter regulary and once in a while pull down your fuel tank and wash, dirt will have no business with your injectors. EFI fuel filter is not like the fuel carburetted engine car fuel filters. The EFI fuel filters are designed such that it can hardly pass dirt because of the nature of injectors. Only when your filter becomes clogged or so dirty that dirt will forcefully have their way to the injectors. Please, before you clean your fuel tank, when its off the car, remove the fuel sender first before the cleaning starts. It could get damaged in the tank while the cleaning is going on.

Why do we still have to call it Injector nozzle?

The name of the component is Fuel Injector, not nozzle. It has tiny nozzle inside via which fuel sprays into the combustion chambers. To the best of my knowledge, there is no component in EFI car engine bay called Nozzle or Injector nozzle.

I sold my 605 V6 today. Sad face! embarassed

While the new owner was driving out with the car, i was just gazing at the car at the tail, while it was fading away. I started to miss the car immediately.

The guy came in from Lokoja this afternoon, inspected and closed the deal. He drove off to Lokoja around 5:30pm. He called me mins ago that he arrived Lokoja mins ago, safe and sound, that the car didnt cough on the whole 3 hours journey on that Abuja-Lokoja highway this night. Of course, i knew it wont cough, because I know what Lions are capable of. They will take you wherever you want to go and bring you back, leaving you smiling. No brand can take that away from Peugeot.

Well, it had to go for another to come in. But will surely miss it. I have done a lot of trip with that Lion and it really served the purpose it came for. Farewel!

Car TalkRe: "Servicing The Injector Nozzles" - Meaning In Nigerian Context? by Ikenna351(m):
Injector Nozzles? You are making it difficult for them to understand. Nigerians call Injectors: NOZZLES, while they call throttle body: INJECTOR.

From my understanding, what Nigerians regard as servicing of nozzles is cleaning of injectors with carb cleaner. Some would simply spray carb cleaner on the two ends of the injectors, and thats all. Unfortunately, they end up damaging the O-rings, spacers & pintle caps, since carb cleaner is a rubber destroyer. A lot of cars have burnt to ashes after the so called injector servicing. Why? Because the carb cleaner will weaken the O-ring and will cause leak from those points, which will, with time, start dripping/leaking fuel on exhaust manifold from the upper injector O-ring. Most people dont even know that O-rings need to be replaced after pulling out the injectors, to prevent vacuum leak from those ends.

Am yet to find in Abuja where ultrasonic injector cleaning is been done, which is the best method of cleaning injectors. But then, are we sure that our injectors really need cleaning? Or because our clowns said so? Most of us are good at driving reserve tank or only refuel when the fuel warning light starts showing on our instrument clusters. Why wont the injectors get clogged!

Some of us are fond of buying and pouring in the fuel tank, anything that has "injector cleaner" stamp on a container, not knowing that those Acids they call injector cleaners will at the end clog the injectors. Not all of them are safe to even touch the valves, making them sticky.

I wish we all know how we are killing our cars, with our hands and money, out of ignorance.

Car TalkRe: Peprish Air In My 2000 Honda V6 And Too Much Fuel Consumption. Pls Help!!! by Ikenna351(m): 9:05pm On Jan 19, 2013
The issue with your car is called excessive fueling/engine flooding (injection issue), though could be caused by ignition sometimes. It got nothing to do with your exhaust. Check your oil dipstick, fuel will be mixing with engine oil in the sump. I believe its overgauging.

Oxygen sensor is definitely not the issue here. It doesnt cause such overfueling when it fails. But the issue might have killed the o2.

CTS wont give such symptom when failed. Though would cause rich running, but not as thirsty as yours is running. I believe your car is emitting black smoke at the exhaust tail.

Whats the condition of your MAF, AFM or MAP? They determing 90% of fuel consumption, including the FPR.

Did anyone tamper with the timing? If something is wrong with the timing, sometimes it will disrupt the proper volts the spark plugs should get from the coils and would make the spark plug not to work properly, hence, the unburnt fuel or improper burnt fuel coming out from the exhaust peppering your eyes.

Your issue is engine management: electric. All you have been doing is beating about the bush. I would start with scanning the car, if I were you, since you cant troubleshoot manually.

By the way, nothing is wrong with your engine. Its just the management.

Car TalkRe: Cars Dt Can B Maintained With 10k Monthly by Ikenna351(m):
Op,

It doesn't work that way, as long as used car is concerned. Aside fueling, there are months cars dont brake down or have need to replace parts. On the other hand, there are months one will spend about 100k or so in keeping the car on the road. It could be replacement of failed auto gearbox, battery, tyre, sensors, mechanical & electrical components, brake pads, engine, etc.

One thing we tend to ignore is that these tokunbo vehicles are used, not brand new. The original or previous owners were maintaining & replacing failed parts before they were sold and shipped into Nigeria. So no matter how clean these tokunbos appear to be, most parts of the cars have been replaced. Reviews have shown that most people that bought their cars brand new over there have one time rebuilt or replaced their auto trans, not witstanding the mileage. Some rebuilt or replaced their transmission that failed even before 100k miles. So, a tokunbo car owner is just enjoying the last repair(s) the previous owner carried out on the car before selling it (some done by car dealers before selling). Some were covered by warranty.

If you really want a car you dont plan to spend more than 10k to maintain in a month if something goes wrong with the car, then buy brand new.

But I can never ever touch d Altima with a long pole because I know friends who flinged them away when they could no longer cope with d high cost of its problems. My verdict is GO FOR CAMRY & HAVE REST OF MIND. Shikena.
Problem with us is we can be so biased that it must be that thing that we like that everyother person should have, because we know better.

Are you really trying to say that everything about Altima is wrong, just because you like the Toyota Camry? Are you trying to say that the Altima doesnt perform or handle better than than the Camry?

I would suggest that you go back and read that my earlier post again. All i did was to point out few pros and cons of both vehicles and left Op to decide which to go for. Did i recommend or suggest that he should go for Altima and forget about the Camry? Did I not point out the high cost of maintaining the Altima?

There is something you need to understand about life and choice. People still buy brand new Benz, BMW, Porshe, etc, irrespective of the high purchase cost and high cost of keeping them on the road, as long as it takes, even when they know that their electrics and mechanicals are more complex than the Japs, and would give nightmares if abused like the Japs. But they still buy them and ain't complaining. Some people still buy brand new V12 cars, knowing what it will cost them in fueling them, as if they didnt know Toyota Prius exist and that new 3 cylinder cars are coming up everyday, which can take 10 litres of fuel to travel from Nigeria to South Africa. Some people find having cars they dont get to be opening their hoods as boring and would go out of their way to get one they will like opening the hood to be modifying the car till it becomes jet, not just aeroplane. While some will hate a car they will have to open the bonnet to check the oil guage via dipstick, since they only want the hood to be opened when changing the engine oil and the likes. What matters is what makes one happy. You are not the one to determine that for me or him, rather will i determine your happiness for you. What you see in your babe or wife that makes you crazy about her, its not what other men see in her.

I told Op what i knew about the two cars. Its left for him to decide which one to go for and which of the cons who could live with. Am not even a fan of any of the brands, and i dont plan to be tomorrow.
IKENNA

Beautiful job... Again I say, very beautiful job..

1. I love your 505. I have dreams of buying one and restoring it to its original factory state (with a few modifications of my own.) I wonder if you know any place in Nigeria where car customization is done. I'm talking beyond wheels and tyres to suspension, engine replacement (should I decide to fit a bigger and more powerful engine into mine) and brakes. I am yet to decide between the 505 and the 504. But God knows I surely restoring one. It would be a 1 year project as I intend to pace myself. I have been told I will be able to buy a good peugeot in the east whenever I am ready, its just the restoration that I have no I dea where I would do it.

2. The state of the roads are wow!! I would have enjoyed pushing my vehicle through those roads.

3. Fuel consuption! WOW!!! That was a real shocker. I always thought stick shifts (coupled with carburetor pumps) would consume more.. HMMMM!!!!

4. Quality of your photographs are great.

5. The picture of Amawbia/Nise road brings memories.. You were barely 10minutes away from my home town of Agukwu Nri.

Beautiful thread, nice ride, lovely photographs. Please let me know abou point one should you have any ideas on that.
When I told a friend of mine in Australia that I wanted to sell my 605 V6, he said if I was living in Australia too, he would buy the 605 V6 from me and transfer the V6 engine from the 605 to his 504. This guy owns Peugeot 406 coupe V6, 505 diesel, 504 & 403(project car). He will be wedding soon and planned to use his 403 for the wedding.

504 & 505 are good for project cars. They can take any modifications you can give them. Some folks in Europe and Australia have installed V8 engines in their 504s & 505s.

Whichever you decide to buy, i would advice you look for a foreign assembled one. Why? They have better ground clearance to maintain the stability on high speed, considering that you are planning to swap in a more powerful engine, with or without wide alloy wheels/tyres. They all also came with 4 wheel disc brake. Such brake system will be good enough to handle a powerful engine, when in action, unlike the drum brake.

If you decide on 504, go for GL. It has rear independent differential, for better handling on sharp bend (just like 505), unlike the PAN assmbled 504s with Live differential. Even if you cant afford to convert it to v6 or v8, buy a 504 or 505 with XN1 engine with double barrel Carburetor. It can produce an amazing power when you push it hard. I used my dad's 504 GL with the double carb then, so i can vouch for that. It was a fun car!

Goodluck.

You really wanted us to believe this? Each of the 2 Altima owners changed their engines twice, while your 2 friends enjoying their Toyotas? Hmm!

You said low fuel consumptions for the Toyotas. If i may ask, what are the engine sizes or number of cylinders of both those your colleagues Altimas and friends Camrys? Do you really want us to talk about which of the has more engine issues in Nigeria? Why do you think the Big-for-Nothing Camry I4 engine cost 350k or so? Do you think if the demand isnt that high, the engine will cost that much?

@ Op,
Both cars are good. It depends on what you want in a car. One performs or handles better than the other. But in terms of fuel economy and reliability, i believe they are thr same. If you want one that you will serve you well and takes care of your point A to point B,with reliabilty and good fuel economy, go for the Big-for-Nothing Camry. On the other hand, if you want one that handles better and give you the room to catch some fun when in the mood, with good fuel economy , go for the Altima. But do know that cost of maintening Altima will be higher and shouldnt br handled by anyhow mechanic and auto technician, unlike thr Camry that can take abuse and still run (though will still lead to its early death, hence, the high demand of replacrment engine).

I would advice you test drive both and take your time to make your choice.

The Hyper-V is a kind of Virtual machine. It will do same as VmWare. They are bother Virtual. So virtualisation is possible.

"Now, before you get all excited, losing XP Mode was not part of some evil plan by Microsoft to push folks away from Windows XP. In fact, the reason for the disappearance of XP Mode is related to the differences in the hypervisor platforms used by Windows Virtual PC and Windows 8’s Client Hyper-V. Windows Virtual PC uses Type-2 hypervisor while Hyper-V is a Type 0 hypervisor. The differences in Hyper-V’s hypervisor type means that it can’t provide the same access that made XP Mode’s integration feature possible.

tunaprex: pls, I need help. I use a 2005 toyota matrix XR 4wd. I had a mechanic check on it & it was discovered dat d catalytic converter is absent. I have a 45 litre tank(dats what d manual says) but @ filling stations, d minimum fuel dats filled it up is 52L & I use it 4 approximately 10days( I only go 4rm my house 2 my work place everyday of d week, which is 15minutes drive). Some pple say my car's fuel economy is good, some say its not. This is my first car so I don't really have nothing to compare with. But the main issue now is dat the noise d car makes is much. Every now & den, pple ask me why d sound of d engine is so heavy. U don't have 2 be in d car 2 hear it. The body vibrates, I hear lots of wierd sounds. A mechanic told me It was d engine seat, they checked & say a damaged one & fixed it. It didn't change anything. Anoda one said my exhaust is leaking 4rm d site the catalytic converter was removed & I shld bring it 4 sealing by welding. I've not done dat yet, I jux need you guy's opinions cos I don't think many of these mechanics know wat they're doin. Thnx a lot in anticipation 4 yur prompt responses.
When I got my car, the Catalytic converter was absent, meaning, the oxygen sensor was absent too. I bought an oxygen sensor, constructed the bung on the exhaust, screwed in the purchased o2 sensor and connected the sensor on its harness that was left hanging-unconnected.

Without the Catalytic converter, the car mpg remains factory, proven by the last trip i did with the car last month. I dont know about the working of your engine management, but mine runs well, even better, without the Catalytic converter, as long as the oxygen sensor is still installed and connected.

You need to find out how many o2 sensor and cat converter the car should have (google it). Then you check to know if the car still have the sensor(s), even after the removal of the cat converter.

You didnt give us enough details to know if the car is thirsty or not. We need to know the distance from your house to office and how many minutes/hours you spend on traffic jams on your way to office (if any).

Or you simply scan the car, whether you are getting the "check engine" light on the instrument cluster or not. Our mechanics and auto technicians can tamper with that bulb.

I wouldnt know why the guy i gave the laptop to couldnt succeed in installing the xp after the partitioning the HDD. I have even asked him to stop the partitioning and revert the HDD to default (500GB).

Meanwhile, someone succeeded in installing xp on his default Windows 8 system, via Client Hyper-V. Find it here:
