First of all, I try as much as possible not to criticize the bible because i do believe that parts of it are from God, The problem with most biblical texts is simple, There is no original text to refer to, There are many different copied texts and many of them have differences. So the problem goes beyond just mere interpretation or translation, because there r no original texts. Most of them have been lost.

I’m happy you are raising this point.

This is one of the reasons I spend a lot of time in the Islamic section. Rather than follow stereotypes, I try to understand Muslims point of view, it’s equally important that Muslims also spend time to research any assumption they have had or being told about Christianity and not take every fable hook, line & sinker.

What you have just stated as per the holy Bible having ‘no original text to refer to’ is just like someone saying the Koran has no original text to refer to. How is this possible?

There are more than 14,000 existing Old Testament manuscripts and fragments  throughout the Middle East, Mediterranean and European regions that agree dramatically with each other. In addition, these texts agree with the Septuagint version of the Old Testament, which was translated from Hebrew to Greek some time during the 3rd century BC.

The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in Israel in the 1940's and 50's, also provide phenomenal evidence for the reliability of the ancient transmission of the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) before the arrival of Jesus Christ.

The manuscript evidence for the New Testament is also dramatic, with over 5,300 known copies and fragments in the original Greek, nearly 800 of which were copied before 1000 AD. Some manuscript texts date to the early second and third centuries, with the time between the original autographs and our earliest existing copies being a remarkably short 60 years.

Interestingly, this manuscript evidence far surpasses the manuscript reliability of other ancient writings that we trust as authentic every day e.g  Julius Caesar's "The Gallic Wars" (10 manuscripts remain, with the earliest one dating to 1,000 years after the original autograph); Pliny the Younger's "History" (7 manuscripts; 750 years elapsed); Thucydides' "History" (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed); Herodotus' "History" (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed); Sophocles (193 manuscripts; 1,400 years); Euripides (9 manuscripts; 1,500 years); and Aristotle (49 manuscripts; 1,400 years).

tbaba1234:

I beg to differ on that point, his political life for the first time united the whole of Arabia, If your know the history of the area before islam, You would know that is a big deal, His political life united territories into one brotherhood. I find nothing wrong with his political life. You find that many prophets were both spiritual and political leaders, Moses. David , Hear what people say about his political life.
English author Thomas Carlyle in his 'Heroes and Hero Worship', was simply amazed:

"How one man single handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades."

What should we think about our prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, when someone with the worldly status such as Mahatma Gandhi, speaking on the character of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, says in 'Young India':

"I wanted to know the best of one who holds today undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind, I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the 2nd volume (of the Prophet's biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life."

And then we read what George Bernard Shaw, a famous writer and non-Muslim says:

"He must be called the Saviour of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much needed peace and happiness."
[The Genuine Islam, Singapore, Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936]

These are what people thought of his political life. It remains a very important part of his message.

I don’t want to offend your sensibilities, I would have given you many more quotes of people who disagree with you on the prophet Mohammed,  most recent of which was the Pope’s quote of the 14th Century Byzantine emperor-Manuel II Palaiologos.

Christianity and Judaism (and possibly Islam too) have similar religio-political figures e.g David, Moses, Joshua, Samson etc.
God prevented David from building a temple in his name because he had blood on his hands (1 Chronicles 22:7-9).

The prophet is the example all Muslims follow & since he is one record of having  fought wars involving loss of lives no matter how justifiable it may be , its only logical some of his followers will take it as licence to do this based on their own warped interpretation of what ‘justifiable’ is.

My point is God is in Heaven & the fundamental purpose of serving/worshipping God is to make Heaven (or paradise), so why should we spend so much time on earthly things like war ,position, wealth, power ,wives etc?

The intra-Arab tribal problems have now being made (by extension of Islam) a Nigerian issue.
Politics should be localised and Heaven global  IMO .

tbaba1234:

You see, people will always have their interpretations. Islam allows only combat with an army, you fight people who fight you. Unfortunately, what a few do reflects on the rest and the media is not willing to look at ordinary muslims because they are not as interesting, Setting off a bomb kills animals, trees, kills christians, Muslims, Jews, old men, little kids, women, It is totally against Islam.

This is precisely my point. There is no country called ‘Islam’ you are a Nigerian, the Nigerian Army should have this responsibility. But when a Muslim based on the example of the prophet believes he needs to take up arms in the name of his ‘religion’, I have a problem with that one.
The Palestinian issue, which seems to be the main source of most of the concerns of Muslims should not be a religious one as 20% of all Palestinians are Christians.

Secondly it has an ethnic dimension – Arabs vs. non Arab Israeli. But when ‘soldiers of Allah’ decide to take this up in the name of Islam (a country that only existed during the caliphate period) this is where people like me have a problem.

A good example of someone who strongly believes he’s following the path of the prophet is our own Farouk Abdulmuttalab from Funtua ,Katsina state. A state where over 60% live below the poverty line largely due to corrupt government systems. Rather than fight to help his own people, he feels obliged to help people of the non-existent ‘Islam State’ being oppressed by America and Israel

tbaba1234:

Wow, I have a few Pakistani friends that won't take too kindly to your words, my friend, anyway same as above; we have over 1.5 billion muslims in the world and a tiny fraction cause trouble for everyone. Generally, the Pakistani people are hardworking, friendly, loving people who care about their families and loved ones like u n I.

I was just joking as per Pakistanis as I have a few around me as well and i personally don’t go with stereotyping.

However it is worthy of note that Pakistanis born or raised  during the regime of General Zia (1977-1988) are probably the most radicalized Muslim generation in recent times as the General used Islam to impose himself on the people.

Hence the propensity and willingness to ‘die or kill for Allah’ among a good number of them.

tbaba1234:

The Quran is actually "THE QURAN", only when it is in the Arabic language and as such, there is no perfect translation. There are two reasons for this, one being the difference between the Latin based "English" and the Semitic based "Arabic." The second reason is a bit more in depth, that being, the Quran means "Allah's Recited Speech to Mankind in the Arabic language" (even then, this does not totally fulfill the whole meaning of "Quran."

Some of the words are arbitrarily translated into English words only because there were not enough choices in English.

First, here is the more or less, transliteration of the sounds to English letters to assist you in understanding the actual sounds of the Quran:

:Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la tattakhithoo alyahooda waalnnasara awliyaa(1) baAAduhum awliyao(1) baAAdin waman yatawallahum minkum fa-innahu minhum inna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alththalimeena. (2).

(1). Auliya carries a special meaning that must be interpreted according to the teachings of the Quran itself and the teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him. friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), consider the following and then place them accordingly according to the sentence structure; 1. "protectors and confidents" 2. "intimate darlings" 3. "closest of confessors" 4. "dearest confidents" 5. "most trusted protectors" 6. "trusted guardians"

(2). Zalimun (also pronounced as THalimoon) could carry the meaning of; oppressor, self oppressed, polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust.

Here, we offer more or less, a translation and interpretation of the meaning to English:

"O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya(1) they are but Auliya(1) to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliya(1), then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun(2)."

The word "Auliya" has been simply translated as "friends" in the past, due to a lack of exact translation to English. However, the usage of such a simplistic term would be most inadequate when other verses talking about the relationships between Muslims, Christians and Jews are taken into considerations. This naturally necessitates a more in depth explanation and understanding of the term “auliya” when used in the context of the verse or verses.

Both at the time of revelation and in modern times, we can see clear evidence of what happens to the condition of the Muslims when they turn over control of government and place total confidence of the disposition of their affairs in the hands of others. From the evidences provided by Quran in Arabic and hadith (teachings of Muhammad, peace be upon him), we conclude the best interpretation of the word "waly" is "ally" and "auliya" is "allies." This clearly shows Muslims not to give their pledge of authority and leadership to other than Allah, even if it is to those who are the closest to the Muslims in their faith. See the reference to this relationship in surah Al Imran (3:110) and other places.

Words are always lost in translation
, Seek a muslim interpretation,  Stop exposing ignorance,

Peace
Thanks

This is interesting. I don't wanna take sides or anything, but aren't muslims the first to say christians have 'many versions' of the Bible? Now you appreciate the import of translation in fully apprecaiting the ancient texts.  wink

Anyway,I strongly believe majority of muslims are good loving people,I have concerns about the political life of the holy prophet Mohammed (pbuh). In my humble opinion if he had remained strictly a spiritual leader, things would have indeed being different.  smiley

My second point is that I hear muslims talk about the Quran forbidding the killing of 'innocent people' ? I'm just curious, who determines if someone is 'innocent' ?  undecided

As far as Osama Bin Hiding is concerned - all american citizens are culpable because they pay taxes to their government which in turn perpertuates all the 'atrocities' all over the world,so they are not innocent hence can be killed according to the dictates of the holy Koran.

This is the same opinion of the Taliban and most Pakistanis(probably the most s.tupid people on earth  cheesy).

So tell me  who determines if someone is 'innocent' ?

You'll need to convince me you're not a school certificate holder ! Firstly the NBA doesn't award the SAN,so your slanderous statement that Tinubu begged them to give him SAN is not only false but without foundation.

Secondly how can you say 'all he can brandish is his SAN' . . eh  undecided  Is your Banire not a lawyer? Why isn't he a SAN? The man -Fashola became probably the youngest SAN in the history of Nigeria at the age of 40 years & you're saying 'all he can brandish is SAN' ? SAN na beans?

okay mrs."hymen"!
you're talking as if you know plain arabic.
,you should ask yourself at what age did Mary (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon her),the mother of your acclaimed god got pregnant?according to the catholic encyclopaedia,Mary was 12 years old!!!

if your "mother of god" was that tender why do you attack others?hypocrisy!!!

Matthew 7:3
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
Its interesting how human beings easily lose perspective on issues.

Imagine a Shia muslim who constantly faces discrimination from fellow (sunni) muslims for his beliefs, try to cast aspersions on another person's faith ("your acclaimed god"wink.

The story of Imam Hussain is really about the victory of patience over oppresion , love over aggression and humility over confrontation -a universal lesson which has been often quoted by the great Indian leader -Mahatma Gandhi (a Hindu).

So I'll advise you stay within the scope of your remit- expantiate on Shia theology & do not be distracted into bringing down our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,no genuine believer would.  smiley

Dear LagosShia,
Thank you for all your enlightenening posts,I'm still reading through each link & watching each Youtube video,I just thought I should spare a few lines in your defence.

The problem with us in Nigeria (muslims & christians)  is that we have been brought up to defend our beliefs aggressively & never leave room for intellectual discourse, historical arguments & cross referencing of facts.

So rather than castigate the 'blasphemer' LagosShia, what I expect 'rightly guided' sunnis to do is tackle/disprove all his points intelligently.

This 'don't spread our linen in public' nonesense needs to stop !  angry . . . . .  .This is the internet age for crying out loud. . . . nothing is hidden .

Go to the christian thread, you'll find Grail message ,christ embassy, catholic ,jehovah's witness boku there - everyone believing their sect (or section) is God's gift to the world.

So in a nutshell- lets stop getting emotional about issues- its is a given that we will not always agree both on politics, religion or government policy, but for God's sake let us argue intelligently (with facts).

Afterall none of us was actually there when all these thing were said to have occured.

Good piece, one cannot really blame the man. As rightly observed, many muslims do not seperate politics from their religion,so he needs to tread carefully in such a volatile state.

Ovularia:

There are many interests to appease, however, and the governor should proceed with caution. Southern Kaduna and Christians in the state have long complained of marginalization, and they are still angry that Noble Prize winner, Professor Andrew Nok, was awarded then denied the position of the head of Ahmadu Bello University. When he was the deputy governor, Yakowa denied that there was marginalization, but now that he is himself governor, he seems to want to adjust his position. He has stated that equity in the state is one of his concerns, and making it his campaign slogan might go a long way to his victory.

its Imam Mahdi am refering too,but the shia calls him IMAM MADHI d TWELTH IMAM based on the generation of the prophet, because even in the Hadith,it says,a man from his projeny, and they count from the prophets progeny down to him,he will be the one to complete the eleven to make twelve, like they say  great grandsons were imam too,so mahdi is the twelth one.

And besides am not following any hadith&sunnah but five pillars of Islam the Religion of Abraham, which Prophet Muhammed too followed,Quran is my only source of guidance.e.g 6:19,and not hadith cos its gonna make muslims unknowingly set up prophet Muhammad has partner with God against his wishes(prophet muhammad)

Allah says,we should obey the messenger-meaning prophet with the message when conveying it to us,and not Muhammad's personality, because he's human like us,and can be prone to mistakes,e.g Him and the blindman, and hes not taking his adopted son's wife, until Allah commanded him to,because Allah, wants to make a law thru that, and to set him as example so people can do that too when the need arise, and the only way we can love the prophet is by Obeying the Quran(message)because he obeyed it too,pls am free from IBN and ABU says,so and so says, such and such and such and such and such, that the messenger said or Aishat said.

The fact isthat majority of believers are going hellfire based on this verse,12:101-106,they think Allah reveal some things to THE PROPHET which is in the hadith,Any unseen reveal is only in the Quran and not Hadith,e.g,stories of yusuf,Allah said this is one of the unseen, and not some hadith narrations
