Islam for Muslims / Re: Shia Justice And The Sunni Predicament On The Popular Middle East Revolutions by illusion2: 6:45am On Mar 22, 2011
LagosShia:

mr.man,
i am not wahhabi or salafist and i am not even a sunni for God's sake.i am shia because that is true islam and islam doesn't teach about those you're confusing by putting them in one basket.
The fact that you say Shia is the 'true Islam',confirms my point. Sunni also feel they are the 'true islam',catholics feel they are the 'true christians' ditto ‘born-again’ christians & so on. You have every right to believe what you believe ,but you must realise that life is much more complex than that. Never see life through the lense of your sect alone.

LagosShia:

so please no one is advocating killing innocent people.the issue is when anyone takes sides and goes to the battelfield, that person should be ready and prepared for confrontation and for the worse to happen.the shia in bahrain will never kill anyone innocent and if that is done that would be an incident to be blamed on the individual perpetrator.

You are certainly confused. In one vein you are saying you’re not advocating killing ,yet you talk about battlefield ? Which battlefield? Which war? When did genuine political agitation turn to warfare?? You need to be clear on what you’re talking about.

This is no warfare. Every human being has a right to criticize and seek improvements from its government, warfare is something completely different

LagosShia:

common sense is really not common!
you got it all wrong.
this isnt about attacks on immigrants.the english league or OPC could attack others based on intolerance.in the case of bahrain it is not about "anti-immigration" attitude.those migrants given illegal citizenship were never attcked because of the citizenship given to them.
Indeed common sense isn’t common ,why else would you claim people should be attacked and yet say  they are in warfare & then  should not be killed ??

Who determines if citizenship is 'illegal' ?? if people feel something has been done illegally you seek recourse in the courts, why this jungle justice
.
The example of the English Defence League & Tea Party is very apt,as they have also have concerns about citizenships for ‘non-natives’ ,but the don’t go attacking people & calling their citizenship ‘illegal’ – they resort to legal battles or legislation. If like you say Shias are educated  & enlightened, surely you wouldn’t imply extra-legal measures should be taken to resolve political disputes ??

LagosShia:

1.)its either those pakistanis and indians are migrant workers and are therefore foreigners who got no business in interfering in bahraini issues and therefore have themselves to blame for any harm they could suffer from poking their noise in another man's affair.
OR
2.) those indians and pakistanis are "bahrainis" as "lagosboy" deem them to be legal citizens.then if they protest in support of the king and they get attacked no one should complain that foreigners or migrants are being targetted.its a brotherly fight between two sides.
so make up your minds.i can never imagine some oyibos like americans protesting in abuja in favor of buhari or jonathan against an opposing candidate and that oyibo would go scot free where there is trouble.
infact i am sick and tired of hearing Nigerians even on the steering wheel shouting against foreigners:"do you think this is your country"!!!
so how much more if we see some oyibos interfering in Nigerian politics?!!!

Like I said what you are proposing is GENOCIDE !

The current Australian Prime Minister emigrated from Wales, all Americans apart from  ‘native –Americans’  came from somewhere – Arnold Schwarzenegger, the past governor of California, the largest state in America, is himself an immigrant from Austria.
Carlos Saul Menem who ruled Argentina from 1989 to 1999 is the son of an Arab immigrant from Syria, President Obama has roots in Kenya & Ireland.

30% of Shia Bahrainis come from Iran, many nairalanders (including yours truly) have dual nationality & we have FULL RIGHTS in our countries, so what are you saying?

If an ‘oyinbo’ has Nigerian citizenship, he or she has FULL RIGHTS including the right to vote ,be voted for and support any candidate.

The PDP in Jigawa state Nigeria presented a candidate who has Lebanese roots in 2007.
http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4766&Itemid=46&page=2

Where have you being  I’m beginning to think you have never left your local govt before with your archaic sense of reasoning.(As you said common sense isn’t common)

Many of the ‘Indians’ & ‘Pakistanis’ were BORN in Bahrain & know no other country, so how can anyone say they don’t have any rights??
Many of the Bahraini shia activists have citizenship of European & North American countries, so why the hypocrisy??

Lagosboy:

This is exactly my point, after every 3 words he rewinds back to the issue of muawiyya, after 3 words he talk about Yazid , after four words it is 12 imams.

Must every issue be addressed from that pin hole mindset, it is the same problems some saudi scolars have. These kind of people are clogs in the wheel of progress as the thrive in retrogression and nver wants to move fowards, They keep taking us back to dwell in history without looking for solutions to move foward. Imagine all the pakistanis and indians get killed.

500000 people slaugtered all in the name of immigration.

Give me a break angry
Well summarised. Difficult to find common ground with such mind set(whether Sunni ,Shia,Evangelical or Hindu),may God help us.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Shia Justice And The Sunni Predicament On The Popular Middle East Revolutions by illusion2: 6:10pm On Mar 21, 2011
Very interesting indeed.

I think it is absolutely wrong for anyone to call for attacks on fellow citizens based on their race or religion due to any disagreements with their govt's immigration policy.

Lets expand this argument further- imagine the EDF(English Defence League),and other racist parties in the UK attacking all non-white UK citizens because they do not agree with how they acquired their citizenship.

Or the tea party in the US asking for all Hispanic Americans to be attacked , or coming home the OPC(Oodua  People’s Congress) attacking all  Igbo people in Lagos for considering themselves part & parcel of this state. And the list goes on.

This is not only imbecilic . . . . . . . . .its downright dangerous.

This is the very definition of GENOCIDE. The Rwandans have a distressing history of this. The Nigerian civil war has its origins in similar principles  & it should be stopped anywhere it rears its ugly head !

Immigration is always a 'hot-bottin' issue in most elections around the world and the way to go is not the jungle justice way (as recommended by LagosShia),but to make changes where applicable to existing legislation if too lax or in the case of poor enforcement adequate investigation.

I have been reading the back & forth on the situation in Bahrain and I have a feeling  LagosShia with all due respect is beclouded by his Shia ideology.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Shia Justice And The Sunni Predicament On The Popular Middle East Revolutions by illusion2: 10:36am On Mar 17, 2011
Good point LB,as always you take the middle road. wink

You go make better politician o ! why not run for councillor or something, seriously

I think the hesitation of the US and other countries to get involved in Libya is as a result of the double standards of arabs (both Sunni & Shia).

Saddam was one of the most hated leaders in the middle east ,he fough both Sunni (Kuwait) & Shia (Iran),the later war lasted for 7 years with over 1 million dead. He meddled in the Palestinian cause by supporting a splinter faction of the PLO(yasser Arafat supported his invasion of Kuwait),as you mentioned he killed most of the prominent shias in Iraq including Muqtada Al Sadr's father as well as most male members of the Al-Hakim family. Like Bahrain Shias are a majority in Iraq,so they were all in support (initially) of the toppling of Saddam.

So to go back on this history and blame America for all Shia misfortunes I think is a bit ingenious.

I do not like American policy generally even in Nigeria -as they have propped up one too many thieving politicians, but to blame them for any intra-muslim or intra-arab problem is being rather myopic in my opinion.

I am writting this with annoyance I took a drive here in Maryland, to look for Nigerian food, I just did not feel like cooking and eating my own Nigerian food and I went to one Nigerian restaurant and I wanted to check the kitchen to be sure that it was not an oyinbo person that cooked it.

Kai it was so bad i just went home and sat on my bed and started day dreaming of all the Buka joints i have been to in Nigeria and how i loved them and miss them so bad( yes i am a Buka Junkie i can't lie) grin

Please if you have a favourite one please give them a shout out here, and tell us what you miss the most about the place.
Let me start
Amala Shitta if you know surulere very well you know there are two hot spots one in the afternoon and one at night.
The one in the afternoon has some wicked Goat meat and Gbegiri soup.

The evening one was so nice but the wahala was that you will now meet all the guys you have been doing shakara for there to eat the amala then will turn to trouble you can't lick your fingers well well, because no matter how dark the place was someone you know will just call your name out in the dark grin saying haa i was not sure it was you i was just checking.

Bankolemo rice -Not there new location oh. After the alhaja died her children now took over it is ok but not like in the late 80's it was my dad's spot i learnt from the best you see. The hot rice with beans and Dodo.
Auntie Kemi The price of her rice was like The Hilton She was located at Tejuosho one of the many gates the one opposite the Lumber yard.
Transformer Amala haaa before i injure my self let me stop here i beg, Give me yours so i can day dream.
I don't know if the place still exists, but 'Iya Ghana' off Allen Avenue, ikeja was something else. It was located in a mechanic workshop (really dirty place),but we would queue up with plates every morning to buy food(working class corporately dressed).

In fact in those days,i would be dreaming of the food the moment i woke up to get ready for work.

The prevailing rumour goiing around then was that the woman was adding her 'toto-water' in the food, me I no know o !

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan is doing a good job in office, according to a poll conducted by THISDAY/Ipsos to gauge the pre-election mood of Nigerians.

Despite the protracted problems such as lack of electricity, unemployment, falling education standards, corruption, ethnic and religious tension and insecurity, in almost 12 years of leadership provided by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), three quarters of Nigerians registered to vote indicated that are happy with the Jonathan administration.

To the question: Agree or disagree with the statement “Goodluck Jonathan is doing a good job as president of Nigeria”, 38.1 per cent said they “strongly agree”, while 34.9 per cent said “somewhat agree”, giving the president a positive score of 73 per cent.

On the negative side, 9.7 per cent said they “strongly disagree” and 8.2 per cent said they “somewhat disagree”, representing 17.9 per cent “disapproval” – while 9.1 per cent responded “don’t know” or “uncertain”.

The poll was conducted through face-to-face in-home interviews by trained Ipsos interviewers in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between January 25 and February 8, 2011.

Coming shortly after the presidential primary of the PDP, the highly positive approval rating for Jonathan might have been influenced by a post-convention bounce, given his landslide victory over his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Jonathan won the delegate votes from 31 states and FCT in spite of the controversy over the zoning of the presidential slot to the North.

Also, as at the time of the poll, the other major parties – Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – were yet to resolve the uncertainty surrounding their alliance talks.

A state-by-state analysis showed that Jonathan got 100 per cent approval in Akwa Ibom State and an average performance rating of nearly 90 per cent in the Southern states, while his scores were generally low in the North-western states of Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Niger and Sokoto.

He scored the lowest in Kano, with an approval rating of 22.5 per cent, compared to the 62.7 per cent that scored his performance on the job low.

Niger State gave him 38 per cent approval, while 49.3 per cent said he was not doing a good job.

In Sokoto, he was approved by 46.5 per cent of the respondents and even though it is higher than the 37.3 per cent who disapproved, the rating is less than the positive average of over 60 per cent recorded in other Northern states.

Responses to other questions asked by the pollsters are:

• 83.9% highlighted power supply/provision of electricity as the most important issue which needs to be addressed, saying it is their biggest concern which the new government will have to make its top-priority to resolve.

• Nigerians consider the issue of power supply to have such gravitas that it is the president himself who should be the one to resolve it and to bear accountability for.

• The president is also seen as playing a critical role in addressing the top four other issues the country is facing such as unemployment, poverty, education and corruption.

• Other important issues such as lack of public transport and traffic congestion are seen by Nigerians to be of more local matters; therefore tackling these issues is seen as falling under the responsibility of state governors.

• Very few people mentioned the local government chairmen, senators, members of the Federal House of Representatives or the members of the states assembly as having main responsibility for fixing the ills of the society.

• Surprisingly, Nigerians seldom mention themselves as playing any role in solving issues which they are faced with on a daily basis, with two important exceptions, namely: Ethnic/religious tension – a fifth (21 per cent) of Nigerians agreed that they themselves had a responsibility in addressing this issue – expressed mainly in Borno, Abuja, Nasarawa, Ogun, Rivers and Taraba; a similar proportion (19 per cent) said they had a role to play in resolving the issue of corruption and government honesty – expressed mainly in Niger, Abuja, Osun and Nasarawa

• Despite the issues which need to be dealt with, Nigerians are largely optimistic about the future with just over half (54 per cent) saying that the country is going in the right direction, whereas only 15 per cent feel that Nigeria is going in the wrong direction. The remainder (29 per cent) stated that they do not feel that Nigeria is changing in any way - the country is not really going forward or backwards.

• On a similar point, 64 per cent of Nigerians think that the economy will improve over the next 12 next months.

• Most negativity about the future of Nigeria is seen in 12 states, all North-western states (Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna) and a few other states (Benue, Niger, Plateau, Kogi and Delta) where more than half of the registered voters feel that the country is moving in the wrong direction.

The poll was conducted with a representative sample of 11,100 Nigerian voters who were asked to share their opinions on a variety of issues.

A stratified, multi-stage probability sampling technique was employed for the study – a random selection method at every stage of sampling.

All Nigerian adults (18+) – males, females, urban and rural dwellers – were given a calculable change of being selected to partake in the polling.

Interviews were conducted all over the country in the language of choice of the respondents: English, Pidgin, Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa.

Data are weighted to match the profile of the population.

All sample surveys are subject to statistical error, depending on sample size, interviewing methodology and response rate. The margin of error for this poll is 0.93. This means that in 95 out of every 100 cases, the findings will fall within +/- 0.93 per cent range when looking at the national results.

It was a requirement of the survey that only registered voters could participate in the poll and, therefore, respondents were asked at the beginning of the interview if they have registered to vote in the elections in April 2011 – more than nine in every 10 (92 per cent) of the sample indicated that this was the case.

The other 8 per cent indicated that they were still planning to register; therefore, their opinions were also asked.

Next week, THISDAY will publish the results of other polls reflecting current realities with regards to the general election.

abdul4hire:

Aslmlykm. Read all your posts may allah guide us all. What's important as muslims is that for every new matter in our. Lives we should always refer back to the quran and the sunnah of the prophet for conclusions. Without doubt taken a muslims soul unjustly is a great matter in allahs religion which in many places has been condenmed by the shariah. But analysing this critically we should ask this question ;why muslim countries? Allah will not impose a tyrannical, blood thirsty, money embezzling ruler on muslims except we ourselves are not standing firmupon the correct teachings of our religion. Allah says if our affairs are inline, we donot associate partners with him, and work good deeds then he will shower upon us risq(provision) and children and he said he will make us firm in the land as muslm. doesn't this call for a sincere introspection as people that proclaim islam. We demand our rights from our rulers but do we give the most honourable of rights to the one that is most deserving, allah, perhaps only then can we truly rant over bad leaders, perhaps only then will allah give us good leaders, perhaps only then we will truly understand that the source of all the revolts which was a suicide which is forbidden in islam was never condenmed rather the guilty held up high as a hero (ironically can't the killings then be justified by gadaffi from his own point of view I.e if they honour killing themselve, don't I have more right to kill in my cause of establishing peace, stability and good governance, perhaps only then will we realise that the prophet had condenmed revolting against the leaders in numerous places including his farewell speech. as long as they observe prayers and do not associate partners with him, for the catastropic consequences that may follow I.e iraq, afganistan, still counting, so muslims let's not consume our selves joining this western propaganda of democracy and let's hold on to Gods teaching through only this can we reform

deols:

mashAllah. I have seen, heard, participated in arguments concerning whether what is going on in the middle east is justifiable or not. At first, i had the notion that the revolution is justified considering that the Muslims in Tunisia would not be allowed to even pray under Ben Ali's rule.I thought the call for Freedom was right. Then came the crisis in Egypt, the loss of lives and the division over who would take over leadership and i started to wonder if anyone could be sure the situation wouldnt be worse than it was at the beginning. Then came my search for what Islam says on it and I found out that Islam disapproves of this and the only way out would have been to change our attitude as a people and pray to God for what we want(better leadership) and Allah knows best.

In all, I think everything is predestined. The Arab world isnt the model of Islam and its not surprising to see such things as this happening. I believe its like every other course of events that change the world, bringing us closer to the last hour.

You need to separate Dosunmu and PDP. Remember Godswill Akpabio [PDP] of Akwa Ibom has been lauded as a performing Governor.

Is there usually a competitive bidding process in LASG Contracts? Was Dosunmu talking rubbish or is their sense in him claiming Gov Fashola was spending NGN 1 billion per kilometre of road to fix the Lekki Ajah Road?

Maybe the civil engineers in the house can give us a clue on how much it should cost in reality taking into circumstance the geography of Lekki - Ajah road and the kinda work being carried out.
True talk.

I also have my concerns on the undue influence of Tinubu on Lagos affairs,I learnt he pushed out the outgoing deputy governor(Sosan).

The N1 billion per kilometer road would indeed be a world record, unless they have included the costs of compensation for acquired land. I would appreciate more light in that regard as well.

@babogun,I visted the site yesterday and got all the contracts up to 2009,on second thoughts I probably should have downloaded the files.

Your points on Fashola vs Dosunmu are very relevant & while I believe Fashola is heads and shoulders above all the other candidates,he mustn't rest on his oars & should address all the issues raised by the other contestants.

Dosunmu & PDP really don't have any moral grounds to comment on leadership anywhere in Nigeria. PDP has been an unmitigated disaster on our dear motherland. They have had record incomes from oil and gas in the last 12 years and we still do not have constant power.

By all indices of development,Nigeria is certainly worse off than we were in 1999. So if not for any other reason,I believe PDP needs to cover their faces in shame.

The recent 'welcome back party' for the ex-con Bode George is another indicator of the disconnect of the visionless party from the average Nigerian.

So by all analysis therefore- Dosunmu doesn't stand a chance !
