barcanista:Work on your use of English language, you can employ the help of "Brighter Grammar". The fact is clear, Obama himself did not have his full Cabinet in place for several months after first taking office. Even if it remains one, it was still not a FULL cabinet for several months. |
vooks:Like i said, i do not know any examples, i simply gave reasons and permissions in cultural context. ML already gave examples about the Pope or so washing feet. Feet washing or not is nothing, it can well pass off for a ceremony and not necessarily humility, it could also be humility and honour. God sees the heart. |
Winna01:Don't die brother, in fact, no be him be president sef. |
una don hear? Cabinet to be appointed September, get the patience of Job, not okrika |
By Muhammadu Buhari July 20 at 9 :20 AM Muhammadu Buhari is president of Nigeria . This month, the world moved a step closer to the defeat of Boko Haram , the jihadist group that has terrorized hundreds of thousands in the northern states of Nigeria . In one of my first acts since taking office as president six weeks ago , I have replaced the heads of Nigeria ’s army, navy and air force. Our new military leadership has not been chosen because of their familiarity with those in government, as was too often the case in the past, but on their track records and qualifications alone . These new military leaders will be based in Borno State in northern Nigeria , where the headquarters of the armed services has been relocated. This shift of resources and command directly to the front line, in addition to the replacement of the head of the State Security Service , Nigeria ’s intelligence organization , and a new emphasis on working in partnership with our neighbors, has equipped us to take the fight directly to Boko Haram . Already we are beginning to see a degrading of Boko Haram ’s capabilities as a fighting force. In recent weeks, it appears to have shifted away from confronting the military directly to an increase in attacks on civilian areas , as we saw only last week when an elderly woman and 10 - year - old girl blew themselves up at a Muslim prayer gathering in northeastern Nigeria . We should not be confused by this change , hateful as it is: It does not mean that Boko Haram is succeeding in its aims — it shows that it is losing . While we work to defeat the terrorists , I ask the people of Nigeria and the world for resolve and fortitude . The campaign we will wage will not be easy; it may not be swift . We should expect stages of success and also moments when it may appear that our advances have been checked. But no one should have any doubt as to the strength of our collective will or my commitment to rid this nation of terror and bring back peace and normalcy to all affected areas . Similarly, my determination should not be underestimated in other matters. This includes instilling good governance and tackling the scourge of corruption that has held Nigeria back for too long. As I meet with President Obama today — the first time a president of the United States will encounter a Nigerian counterpart following the peaceful transfer of power in a contested election in our history — I will be discussing my plans for critical reforms. So, too , will I discuss why the formation of my administration is taking time and , crucially , why it must. Already there are voices saying these changes are taking too long — even though only six weeks have passed since my inauguration . I hear such calls , but this task cannot and should not be rushed. When cabinet ministers are appointed in September , it will be some months after I took the oath of office. It is worth noting that Obama himself did not have his full Cabinet in place for several months after first taking office; the United States did not cease to function in the interim . In Nigeria ’s case , it would neither be prudent nor serve the interests of sound government to have made these appointments immediately on my elevation to the presidency ; instead , Nigeria must first put new rules of conduct and good governance in place . I cannot stress how important it is to ensure that this process is carried out correctly, just as it has been crucial to first install the correct leadership of the military and security services before we fully take the fight to Boko Haram. There are too few examples in the history of Nigeria since independence where it can be said that good management and governance were instituted at a national level . This lack of a governance framework has allowed many of those in charge , devoid of any real checks and balances , to plunder. The fact that I now seek Obama ’s assistance in locating and returning $ 150 billion in funds stolen in the past decade and held in foreign bank accounts on behalf of former , corrupt officials is testament to how badly Nigeria has been run . This way of conducting our affairs cannot continue. Indeed, the failure of governance, it can be argued, has been as much a factor in Nigeria ’s inability thus far to defeat Boko Haram as have been issues with the military campaign itself. So the path we must take is simple , even if it is not easy : First , instill rules and good governance ; second, install officials who are experienced and capable of managing state agencies and ministries ; and third, seek to recover funds stolen under previous regimes so that this money can be invested in Nigeria for the benefit of all of our citizens . We seek the support and partnership of the United States in these tasks . The importance of the fight against terrorism and corruption in Nigeria , Africa ’s most powerful economy and largest populace , cannot be underestimated. Our allies can provide much - needed military training and intelligence as our soldiers take the war effort to Boko Haram. Similarly, we look to U . S . businesses as well as the Obama administration to help develop governance initiatives that can ensure that Nigeria ’s wealth benefits all its people , not just a few . By taking these steps , we will be positioned to benefit from increased investment — particularly in energy and electricity — from the United States . I was elected on a platform of change . I know this is what the people of Nigeria desire more than anything else. I know they are impatient for action . I realize the world waits to see evidence that my administration will be different from all those that came before. Yet reforming my country after so many years of abuse cannot be achieved overnight . In our campaigns against both Boko Haram and corruption, we should remain steadfast and remember , as it is said: “Have patience . All things become difficult before they become easy . ” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/nigeria-committed-to-good-governance-and-fighting-terror/2015/07/20/8c1acd00-2e21-11e5-8353-1215475949f4_story.html |
vooks:Peter and his culture felt the lesser can honor the greater by feet washing. I see nothing wrong or odd with anyone washing the other's feet. it boils down to culture and perhaps humility, every Christian should be humble and Christlike, not just pastor. |
Fayose should forfeit his salary already and stop making noise. It will add substantially to Ekiti state's IGR which is currently the LEAST in the whole Federation. They were second to the last last year 2014, this year, they are gunning for last. Fayose, there is work on ground. |

Make sure to include the current administration in any current Federal Government 'achievement'. The past administration did very little on the much touted 2nd Niger bridge, it easily passed off for a political gimmick. Buhari can easily stop any Federal Government project, he stopped the Lagos Railway in 84, remember? So if anything substantial is ongoing, share the credit right. |
vooks:i wouldn't 'judge' any context and culture/norm, but if you mean to assess or determine personally, as far as it does not directly contravene God's revealed will, we should be led by the Spirit of God. For 4 and 5, i do not know anyone honoured thus. It might possibly be some culture, i don't know. But i know that in some places, people remove their shoes out of 'respect' when they visit certain places and even houses. As for feet washing, it is a thing of honour in some cultures, and the Peter felt it was so. People used to do it to honour guests. |
Funny guys. Subsidy started with Buhari when NNPC was founded. But the scam, rot and new agreement was largely unknown and shrouded in secrecy by the past administration. |
Haishophem:i'm sure you also guess that they sat up during the previous administration. Get serious and stop childish guesswork, this is not ludo. I thought local govts and some other towns were being recovered during the awakening 6weeks of the previous administration. Have you asked yourself why boko haram boys are winning right now upon the time when PMB took the helm of affairs.Deal with facts and not with your fancy thoughts please. The LGs were taken over during GEJ's administration, that was one of the reasons given for the postponement of elections in February. Such occurences are no more happening, that's improvement. Also, normalcy is being restored, closed airports and roads are beginning to function, Displaced people and refugees are coming home again, soldiers are no more running from boko haram, what is left is the bombs which will be taken care of. Your failure to see the improvement is due to your lack of exposure, that results in you typing your fancy thoughts from a distance. Volkswagen and other car manufacturers came into existence two months ago I guess as we all knew that babagoslow is yet to have his cabinets in place and there's no known policy that would have encouraged investors.http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/07/volkswagen-revives-assembling-operations-in-nigeria-unveils-new-vehicles/ Read the news and the date, thanks. There are combination of factors that drive investment and encourage investors. This is basic secondary school economics, don't just follow political jobbers like barcanista blindly. If all that is needed was policy, why didn't the investors come rushing during GEJ's 6 years of policy making. Business people look at factors like security, market confidence, demand, corruption, profit etc. No better company will come and invest in Nigeria because of security and corruption issues. That's why you see mainly oil and gas(profit), other sectors are very few except for chinese and co who are ready to fit into the Nigerian corruption laden setup. But with the new 'sheriff' in town, improvement in security and corruption index/ratings, Internation and Multinational companies will come begging, policy of course has its place but its not alpha and omega. It's better you guys stop all this lies and propaganda that brought you into power and get things done and give glory to whom it's due.i'm not a politician neither am i in power in the sense you write, i'm simply discussing common sense with you, free of party affiliation or tribal/religious sentiments. |
Did Adam and Eve repent? tunaguy: |
MizJanet:Don't be an hypocrite, you dooo think of yourself, don't you? Thinking of yourself is not the same as being selfish, that's where you miss it. There is no sane human being that does not think of himself/herself. It is the scale that is different, from selfishness to selflessness. So calm down, think through and let's talk. Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? Do you think of yourself? On what basis is it right or wrong to think of yourself? Who made/makes the law? As for your sleepless nights about two year olds, i would not be surprised if you support or have actually killed some, especially through the means of abortion. So i wonder why the fanaticism and show of self-righteousness you are putting up. God judges humans according to their works. There is something we call "age of accountability". Two year olds and below are not accountable for what they do and will not be judged into hell. Hear the Owner of hell Himself on this matter that is so close to your heart. Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. If you have to be like little children to enter the kingdom of God, what does your logic tell you of the very little children. i hope and pray that logic will not fail you. Because if you cannot handle simple and plain logic, how can you discuss further spiritual, watch your health. |
Weah96:You don't have to be abusive or demonstrate a lack of proper training before you pass across your views effectively. i am not the cause of your frustration and despair. i simply asked a question, and you can either answer it or ignore it. The question was polite, and its logic that the answer be polite. Question: Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? Your answer from what i can pick: Yes, I care, I want all two year olds in heaven Good to see you care where two year olds go. Seems you are also set to end up in hell, that's unfortunate. There is no reason why you need to end up in hell, you can also go to heaven with the two year olds. You have no basis or moral justification to want to end up in hell while unknown two year olds end up in heaven. Since you wanted my opinion or answer, you should have asked, instead of making baseless assumptions and generalisations. i'll kindly answer you though. i want two year olds in heaven, i want you also in heaven, i want everyone in heaven. However, it's not up to my wants, the owner and maker of Heaven and Hell has His terms for you and i. As for two year olds, they clearly and automatically get to Heaven. He stated already that OF SUCH is the Kingdom of God. It's not a debate. So instead of debating the unnecessary, take time to think, What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? |
bingbagbo:Preaching does not make you an evangelist. God gave SOME evangelists, not all. Get the point, we are all called to WITNESS and share the good news or gospel, but we are not all called into the five offices in the church; evangelists, teachers, apostles, prophets and pastors. |
Weah96:i asked you a question, are you an illiterate or what? Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? |
barcanista:How do we measure or arrive at conclusions about power in the past? how did President Jonathan arrive at his conclusion during his interview with Amanpour in 2012? You can run a poll to verify and i am certain many people can confirm that power has definitely improved. The main contention is the reason, some say rainfall some say Buhari. Even blind people do not deny that rain is falling, na wa for your own. Power and other ministries have improved because everyone is sitting up and making an attempt to work. It is the effect we are seeing. It's the difference between having a leader(Buhari) and having former president Jonathan. 2. Petroleum Sector:It was not the Buhari team but the NNPC that told us that the refineries were almost ready and will start work in July, do not twist facts. This is part of what i said earlier about every ministry and government agency sitting up and attempting to work. The previous government left the nation in a coma as regards to petroleum availability. There was no fuel by May 29 and where tthere was, it was selling at very high prices. So, it is fair to say that the queues are disappearing. It is just recently that queues are reappearing, and it is not due to the usual issues but to hoarding of the product, caused by anticipation of a scarcity. It's a people made problem which will be solved, unlike a government made problem as happened in May. 3. Foreign Affairs:With your exposure, you ought to know and appreciate the point of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. This is what Buhari has achieved in his first week or so of travels and meetings with Chad, niger, Cameroun. And Benin. You are also aware though ashamed to accept he news of the $21million that was given to the Multinational Joint Task Force by the Buhari governmant. Not forgetting the $5million given by the US to the same cause. These are not things that GEJ put in place. MNJTF was comatose and lacking direction before Buhari. Foreign armies were simply doing how they liked at will on Nigerian soil, even South African military men, NE was like no man's land. Things are different and better now. Even the commercial section of the Maiduguiri airport is now functioning, and our army is no more fleeing from boko haram. They are no more complaining to Reuters and BBC about unpaid salary and lack of weapons and morale. Boko Haram is no more reigning over local governments and deposing emirs and displacing Nigerian citizens, towns and villages. We are staying put and fighting back. Take that news to your mentors. And yes, G7 did offer support, this was not achievable under President Jonathan and i recall how Nigerians and pained government officials were whining and murmuring like America their god has failed them, who do they turn to. Some even excused government's failure then on that premise. 4. Trade and Investment:i thought Volks Wagon opened shop recently, it was on nairaland frontpage too. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/07/volkswagen-revives-assembling-operations-in-nigeria-unveils-new-vehicles/ On local content and policy direction, check http://www.nta.ng/2015/07/08/ministries-brief-president-buhari-on-their-activities/ You are also aware of the CBN directive which is geared at encouraging local production and investment. Why are you saying NOTHING is happening. Are you unaware of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) that started off on Saturday, where 1000 entrepreneurs(mostly Nigerians) were empowered to start business? Stop sleeping and deceiving people that no new industry or investors have plans to come in. 5. Anti-Corruption:While there is no call for celebration yet, there is EVIDENT change in BODY LANGUAGE of the Federal Government. People are beginning to think twice about stealing government money. EFCC is at last given room/space/free hand to perform their duties by the Executive arm of government. It is left to the Judiciary whether they will allow the guilty to escape or not. But definitely, there should be some acknowledgement that things are changing as regards graft, corruption, mismanagement and wastages. The Executive is started playing its part in the change mantra, we are waiting for the Legislative and the Judiciary to follow suit. 6. Public Finance:Don't be ridiculous, the bailout was a loan not a gift. A quality opposition will proffer BETTER solutions instead of just criticizing everything like a dog on heat. If the FG did nothing about states owing workers months of salary, you would still complain. Now, they helped, you still complain. i guess you would have felt better if he kept your commonwealth in Daura instead of helping out the workers. you complain about some so called same governors being helped, yet if he does not help past offenders you will still complain of witch-hunting or despotism or tribalism or whatever rubbish you drum up. What you refuse to understand is that this government is not a vindictive one but a principled one. That's why they can work and are able to work at least for the past few weeks with people who failed under the non-leadership of the past president. People like the service chiefs and many DGs, IG etc who were almost useless before are now attempting to behave. Even Fayose seems to be turning a new leaf. The difference is Leadership and Vision, not the past governor or past service chief or DG. That's the difference between an NOI under OBJ and the recent NOI. One had a leader, one did not, i know you know which is which. |
Weah96:Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? |
Weah96:Jesus'death was the very purpose of God and of life. He lived to die. |
SuperSuave:One important thing is that we keep our eyes on the ball as it were and not miss the important things. Christ has saved us, we believe in God, God loves us and hears us and see us, we fear God, we are expecting Jesus. Keep these in mind and as priority above all else, whatever may want to rock your boat. The Word of God is Life, its not a piece of paper, it is something God breathes into. Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The flesh and letter is of no profit. Let's not lose the substance chasing shadows. The life is not in Moses's rod or Aaron's rod or Paul's handkerchief, it is God. Let's not leave God, and be chasing papers and alphabets. That been said, most of what words mean depend a lot on context. If you miss CONTEXT, you miss everything. A simple "I am coming" may actually mean that you are going, it's context. Also, the right leg is not the same as the left leg, in fact they seem opposite but they are one in the body. Jesus Christ actually turned water into wine, however the Bible does not say that it is alcoholic. Words or vocabulary do not necessarily fully or perfectly describe everything. Old Testament/New Testament is not a change of God's mind. It is simply two different covenants. While the two covenants are everlasting, one is plainly/clearly better than the other. Peter's dream also has to do with the covenants. Peter was in the new covenant. IBM's mainframe computer and present day computer are different computers. They may both have different/differing manuals and fine print agreements. |
vooks:Apart from 3 and 7, the others may be permitted or normal depending on context and culture/custom. As far as it does not directly contravene God's revealed will, we should be led by the Spirit of God. Rom 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor. 3 and 7 is wrong. No human is God Almighty or should be arrogated such. Respect and honour is not necessarily agreement. For instance, i respect every political leader Nigeria has had but i do not necessarily agree with them or their policies. |
MizJanet:The end does not justify the means in Christ. A human being cannot murder or kill to do good. You destroy the purpose of life and of God for a life that you kill. Taking laws to your hands is a crime even secularly. |
Weah96:You talk too much already without saying much. Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? |
MizJanet:Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? Answer that. What's the importance of what i think or what you think about two year olds, if we do not think of ourselves? |
bingbagbo:Mar 16:14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Mar 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. Mar 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. It does not say that every believer is an evangelist. However, like i have said already, every believer is expected to be a witness for God. There is an office of an evangelist, He gave SOME evangelists, not all. |
tunaguy:Repentance. Repentance is necessary for God's forgiveness. |
All believers are witnesses, not evangelists. Actually, an evangelist is an office in the body of Christ like pastor, teacher, prophet and apostle. |
MizJanet:Do you really care where a two year old goes, or more of where you go? What would it profit you if all two year olds went to heaven and you missed it? |
nwafuluozoh:And your whole lineage is probably yet to achieve what she has, true or false? |
anonimi:How does BBOG please him? |
truthislight:They get destroyed again. |
anonimi:How is it an achievement if it never materialized? Despite removing 32naira from every litre in January 2012, subsidy payments still increased and today we are even owing. |

which means Jesus somehow endorses wine. In the same Bible again I saw in Galatians(can't remember the chapter and verse), where the fruits of the flesh were listed, drunkenness was listed also.
