davidylan:Perhaps it will have greater impact on Zexyworm in the rephrased version. |
alexis:So we should start killing innocent muslims as well? The best way to counter Islamic extremism is not through the force of our weaponry but the force of our example |
heyma:They have got Petrochemical Engineering |
In Nigeria its law, outside Nigeria they are all into IT these days |
Maybe its because religion in general is often incompatible with rational thinking.Incompatibility with the rational thought process is particularly acute with one religion. This is not neccesarily a critique of religion,I am a Christian, but I realise my faith often is difficult to reconcile with my thought process |
ijogbon:In a country of 150 million, how many people actually work in those institutions. Its possible for things to get worse for the average Nigerian while things get better for a small sector. In Nigeria, that is the case |
Lacking the instruments of logic, our anti-Isreal brigade have resorted to ad hominen attacks |
zexyworm:Didn't the Arabs try that in 47 instead accepting the land they were given, look what happened after that. |
Tornadoz:They have been negotiating with Fatah for decades. The Oslo Accords its a case in point.Sometimes negotiations break down but they do negotiate.Where they draw a line is Hamas. This is not to say that there are no low-level contacts. Tornadoz:Land was demarcated between Isreal and the rest by UN Resolution .Isreal accepted it but the Arabs insisted on sovereignty over the entire territory. They went to war and lost, the rest is history |
Have you ever had one of those girlfriends who wants to kiss you in front of everybody to show you are hers and you are taken? Annoying isn't it? @TOH What happened to the old pic? |
iyken:Just correcting falsehoods. iyken:Neither |
Cookies! |
Tornadoz:Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Arafat was of the Fatah party while the present Palestinian Govt is Hamas led.Article 7 is to be found in Hamas' constitution not Fatah.I thought u know the issues well Tornadoz:Now this is a joke.I can overlook not knowing the difference btw Fatah and Hamas but not knowing that the Arabs rejected a 2 state solution in the 40s and decided to wage war is on another level.I presume you know the basic history of the conflict before arguing about it? |
iyken:So effectively you are saying that more than 50% of African women are "towing the line of single parenthood" ?Where are these stats? |
So if Idi Amin wanted nukes, let him have it.Brilliant! |
babasin:Our money? The former Vice President who was Chinese actually promoted his wife and gave her a huge salary.U know what happened after that, nothing! The World Bank survives on giving credits and Wolf has been cutting back some of the loans to the consternation of staffers. Now that he is gone,"your money" is not any safer |
adconline:Ranking Universities in Nigeria is a farce.Ranking Universities in any part of the world is an imprecise science anywhere in the world, moreso Nigeria. The fact that UNN does not make other lists is hardly news to UNN students. In the law sector I alluded to,we were denied accreditation for the Law Faculty despite the fact that our Law students were consistently coming out tops. Some Northern Universities actually have a higher admissions quota for the Law School than UNN. My point is,if UNN is as bad its made out,how come in the one field we can get to compare students-law-UNN does far better than the rest? Are u saying the Law Faculty is just an exception?I dare say if we had a Nigerian Medical School or a Nigerian Engineering School,we will have the same result |
mrmayor:Are u a George Monbiot MOONBAT? Tell us what you think is wrong with the basic premise, that a religious doctrine that demands the expulsion of infidels from "Holy Land" is a huge clog in the wheel of peace-making in the Middle East. This is one "elephant in the room" that the anti-Isreal brigade prefer to gloss over. |
luxoire:That attitude works like a self fufilling prophecy. |
Since they are "passing ports" ,yes |
I used to be a strong Christian untill I read the Bible, seriously.I did CRK in my JAMB exams and had to study the Bible extensively and the more I read, the less sense it made. I wonder how people who regularly read the BIBLE still have strong faith.I am still a Christian but a rather sceptical one. |
Why should anyone accept cheating? |
KAG:The GSS study is for the US.I have seen a couple other similar studies before, but not online, coming to the same conclusion.I will try and find them so I can post them here |
I read somewhere that Castro is worth $2 billion. At first I thought, how sad. Then I realised he has been President since the 1950s.If he was a Nigerian,he will be worth at least $100 billion ![]() |
Let me summarise what happened at the Bank Shaha was due for promotion with a higher salary but when her boyfriend was appointed Bank President, her position became untenable because of Bank rules.Wolf asked to recuse himself from the issue but the ethics asked him to personally decide on the matter. When he did,he was sent a memo approving what he did. Politics has gotten in the way of the matter. The only thing he did wrong was that he probably was too generous in the financial compensation, other than that he did nothing wrong |
@KAG The bewildering thing is that the study you posted asks whether a person has been divorced, without asking whether they have ever been married. I have never been divorced but I have never been married either.Given that atheists/agnostics are less likely to marry, its hardly surprising. General Social Survey (GSS, 2000-2004)—one of the best known sources of sociological data. “Frequent” is attending church about once a week or more. 58%, non-frequent Black Protestants 54%, non-frequent Evangelicals 51%, no religion (e.g., atheists & agnostics) 48%, ALL NON-CHRISTIANS 48%, non-frequent, other religions 47%, frequent Black Protestants 42%, non-frequent, mainline Protestants 41%, ALL CHRISTIANS 41%, non-frequent Catholics 39%, Jews 38%, frequent other religions 34%, frequent Evangelicals 32%, ALL FREQUENT CHRISTIANS 32%, frequent mainline Protestants 23%, frequent Catholics http://brewright..com/2006/12/christian-divorce-rates.html |
I just decided to google this point.I came up with this article, not much I admit- http://www.pobronson.com/blog/2006/06/will-this-marriage-last-religions.html If i find something,I will paste it tommorow. From the article- Studies have repeatedly found that increased religiosity increases marital stability. Those without any religious affiliation have a higher divorce rate than those who are religious, no matter what religion it is we're talking about. Religious affiliation also seems to be a general indicator of increased marital satisfaction.[/i] |
Variation in divorce rates by religion: Religion % have been divorced Jews 30% Born-again Christians 27% Other Christians 24% Atheists, Agnostics 21% Ron Barrier, Spokespersonn for American Atheists remarked on these findings with some rather caustic comments against organized religion. He said: @KAG Should i also find links on sites run by the Christian Right about studies on the divorce rates of religious people vis-a-vis the non religious |
Telly B:You would think that studies conducted by think tanks and Universities are "scholarly".They must be credible to make the Economist. Is it really difficult to believe that the average religious person has a longer marriage than the average non-religious person?I would think its obvious why that is the case.Whether they have "happier marriages",I have never seen anything in that regard |
Give the President of Liberia some credit, she has too much class to stoop to that level |
