OP, you are not in ancient times. To get to the sea you need permission to passs through indigeneous right of way and territories belonging to non-ibo tribes. They will tax you and generate revenue each time you pass through toll points. Not only that, they will control your trade with merchants at sea, because they own that sea, not you.

Get a grip, iboland is landlocked!

I saw an earlier thread of same event with mothers.

Look, Yoruba have style, period!

When you show up to any event outfitted in Yoruba attire you will carry the day. Thats just it!

Do you not recall this picture of Obi and how entire Biafra nation went gaga and bragged about his sophisticated look?

Of every picture that exist of Obi, this is the only one I have seen of him in Yoruba dress, and it proves my point that Yoruba owns style and swag. Have a Yoruba outfit in wardrobe for special events, you will be ok.

If the groom's parents had done that this thread and the earlier version wont be necessary.

May their soul rest in peace.

Four parties are liable, and must be charged and prosecuted for manslaughter.

1. The owner of the water tank
2. The builder that erected structure and mounted the tank
3. The owner of the land, or right of way for the tank.
4. The engineer that inspected and approved build order.

These nonsense repeat itself in our society because we are too fucking lazy on law enforcement.

The Nigerian military during the biafrian war disguise as Biafra soldiers to perpetrate atrocities against several communities in coastal Biafra to make them hate igbos .that is the basic and beginning of the stigma till date

Freak!

Niger Delta already had hatred for ibo before the war. Even before the coup. They wanted out of Eastern Region long before 1966.

If Azikiwe was a man of integrity he would have taken same steps as Awolowo to respect the agreements for referendum and allow the exercise in East.

Their hatred for you intensified after Zik reneged on the agreement.

I respectfully ask you to kindly walk out your house, building.

Now count 10 houses/building close to you.

Yes you will find out an Igbo from the dot nation owns at least 2 of those house

2 here is so our ego won't be totally crushed, can be more.

Are other regions left out?

No!

If you're from North, South you can do same experiment.

They achieved this after all they owned in other regions were forcefully taken away from them during the war which is quite fair as the rules of war is simple..... Victor takes all and implements new rule how they feel like.

There's a reason some particular people are scared of Igboman leading Nigeria.

They're scared.... If they aren't scared why have they sworn on their father's graves not to let an Igboman rule?
Them an their brothers alike up North are terribly scared of Igbo ruling Nigeria 😂😂

They know if an IgboMan rules this country their so called developed state will be at great risk.

Most of the benefits their so called states enjoys will shift to another state hence opening their Nyansh...

One day na One day.

I love this generation of Igbo... We do anything to protect our own however few they claim we are.

Buhari tried 3 times before winning.

There's great hope for Obi.

All it will take is for Tinubu to ruin this tenure completely and then it will be smooth ride for Obi

The final Blow?

If PDP gives Ticket to Obi then it's 100% game over!

Yorubas are scamming and fleecing you but because you lack political wisdom you fail to realize the racket that has sucked you in.

First, the places you buy land to build are typically under a Baale. Such lands are never individual properties, they belong to a large family.

Second, they plot to part you with your money. They send a representative from one branch of the large family who negotiates price with you. Another family send pressure group to harrass and issue terms of ownership and rope you in.

Third, you finally drop millions for the front guys, then more millions for a certificate issued by Baale representatives.

Fourth, while your contractor is pouring cement and concrete, pretenders from land survey, from engineering, from enviromental begin to visit and collect from you. In your foolishness you believe their representation is an approval of your structure.

Fifth, your naivety about land laws in Lagos and ignorance about family rights to land are your doom when soon, State Government begins to audit records and find the multimillion naira mansion you erected is in violation of building codes and edicts.

Sixth, government then cannot find your building record in its archives, but the land is part of an earmark for road construction. What are you doing building 100million naira mansion in the middle of a proposed 4 lane highway? Who told you to build on the land without govt approval?

Seventh, government mark your mansion for demolition. You run back to Baale for help, but he has never even seen you before. Then another branch of the family that own land show up and demand to know who issued you C of O over their family land. They have never heard of a Kunle that took land money and issued you c of o.

Eight, they demand fresh negotiation and settlement. They even promise to intervene and get govt off your back. You believe them and pay more millions. They dissapear. Two years later government show up at Emeka house and bulldoze your property.

Nine, you first start an argument that government is wrong and its their problem for not approving your building. After they bulldoze Emeka property, they go down the street and bulldoze Chuckuma building, and after that Chidiebere mansion is flattened, then Chibuzon building comes after that.

Ten, you all then storm Nairaland and tell Yorubas you are our landlords and you have bought all our lands.

We Yorubas dont care if you buy all the lands in Lagos and erect mansions and we become tenants to Ibo. We just want to make sure the keys to the bulldozers remain in our possession. Thats all we truly care for. Good luck buying more lands and sinking millions into them....we will meet you in two years to ask for your building approval.

Until then...cheers! grin

Politics / Re: Here Are Some Places That Also Bears The Name "Èkó" In Nigeria by ImperialYoruba: 5:18pm On Dec 09, 2023
Raydos:
Were all these places named by the Binis too?

Just because we have same Word in two different languages does not mean they're the same

For example: 'Akin' Is a Yoruba word for a Strong man

And Also Akin is also an English word which means something of similar nature

Same with Ode which means a hunter in Yoruba
And "Ode" which means a lyric poem in the form of an address to a particular subject in English

Does that mean Yoruba language belongs to the English people just cos they have a word in common?

Even Àkùkọ in Yoruba is Hẹn
And Okuko in Igbo is Hẹn

Because these words sounds the same, Does that make Yoruba own the word Okuko?

Under the suzerainty of Ife Empire, Benin Kingdom was used to civilize Edo people.

Since its independence from Ife, Benin has not been able to forge new developments on its own. This has resulted in stagnation and isolation of the Kingdom. The impact is a retrograde in political and social gains in the Edo society. They continue to focus and hope on a renaissance for the powerless Oba.

They dream hopelessly of a return to old glorious days when Yoruba rescued them and re-ordered their destiny. It is impossible to revert, that tie is severed for ever, but the obstinate Edo slave is not going to simply give up just like that.

If Oba of Benin told them his mecca is Ife, the home of his ancestors, they will cease slaving for him. An Oba must always be sorrounded by slaves to perpetuate power.

So do not beat them too much, Edos are only living their destinies as slaves to children of Oranmiyan.

Politics / Re: Igbos Are On A Rebound, Don’t Allow Biafra To Stop The Momentum by ImperialYoruba: 4:57pm On Dec 09, 2023
SSFeedsNigeria:
. I once saw data from the 1960’s that showed how the old Eastern region (comprising the entire SE with Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River) was the fastest growing economy in Nigeria, and among the fastest in the world. The region was registering new businesses far more than Western and northern regions combined! Then the civil war happened in 1967-70 and that momentum was lost. The region turned into a sorry state. New centers of growth and investments shifted to Lagos/Oyo and Kano/Kaduna axis.

Infrastructure in the East decayed. Investments fled the region. Even Igbos themselves abandoned their region and instead chose to invest in the new centers of growth outside their region. Onitsha deterioted. Aba decayed. Enugu, Owerri, Nnewi, Awka, Umuahia, Abakilike etc. became glorified villages. People looked down on those that choose to remain in the East as unambitious people who don’t want to make it big in life.

From the 1980’s, 1990’s and up to early 2000’s there were constant religious riots in the North, and each time it occurred, Igbos and their investments became targets. As a result, calls for “aku ruo ulo” which loosely means “bring your investments home” became rife but unfortunately, the East was still in a very bad shape. This pushed Igbos to start making demands from their governors on infrastructure improvements. Having realized that North was no longer safe for them and their investments, Igbos began to move massively into Lagos & Abuja in the interim, along with their investments. Not long after, the aku ruo ulo calls began to yield dividends as Igbo investments began to trickle into their region.

As Igbo population & assets in Lagos spiked, Yorubas began to get uncomfortable. Then 2023 election happened & they weaponized tribalism. Several Igbo dominated markets got burnt. It was followed by the demolition of houses and plazas in Igbo dominated areas too. Just like North in the previous years, Igbos also realized that Lagos isn’t safe for them and their investments too.

Almost same situation that occurred in the North in the years prior to 2000, is now occurring in the West. The period Igbos began to abandon North coincided with its economic collapse. I’m not saying that North collapsed economically because Igbos abandoned it but several other factors added to it.

Now, calls for Igbos to divest away from Lagos region is happening at a period foreign investors are also abandoning the region. Lagos/SW loss now becomes SE gain as investments are now pouring into the East in an unprecedented manner. What makes it more remarkable is that SE is rising when other regions are stagnating or even regressing.

Just like in the 1960’s when the civil war truncated the rise of the East, Igbos should avoid history repeating itself. You can make IPOB or ESN your pressure group but never escalate things to unmanageable crises level.

Another good thing is that Nigeria is finally being restructured without many being aware. The North may or may not be aware that Nigeria is being restructured against their age long hindrance to it. However, there is little or nothing they can do to stop it. Fuel subsidy removal, unbundling of power generation and distribution, removal of certain things from the exclusive list etc are restructuring that will make regions grow at their own pace. This is the opportunity Igbos need to roar back like the Asian Tigers and it is gratifying to note that the prognosis indicate positive signs. Aba, Onitsha and Nnewi are back on track. SME’s and manufacturing in the SE is thriving once again.

Unfortunately for the northern region, they failed to invest in Human Resources. If Tinubu sustains the covert restructuring, the region is likely to collapse further without new investments and rising insecurity. With foreign investors also fleeing Lagos region & Igbos doing same, the SE is now poised to become the new axis of growth in Nigeria. Also, with AFTCA now in place, Lagos no longer has locational advantage like in the past, when ECOWAS was the trading region. Now, the entire Africa is, and SE is well positioned between West and Central Africa.

Igbos can truly achieve their mission even within a dysfunctional BUT DECENTRALIZED Nigeria.

I would like to see too. Please share.

Ibo and his fake references. grin

Politics / Re: Lagos Should Removed The Title "Oba Of Lagos" If Ignorance Persists by ImperialYoruba: 4:27pm On Dec 09, 2023
Biodun556:

.

Then he should be Oba of Lagos island not oba of Lagos so that his Ogiso people will know their limit and what to claim if at all anything belongs to them

Your reply here is worse than the logic-deficient opening on page1.

When the Ashipa dynasty started rule in Lagos, there were only two communities inhabited. The two communities were Isale Eko and Ereko. I have the map of old Lagos and narratives from oral source about its origin and development.

Portuguese later named it Lagos, and this was during Oba Kutere's reign. The fourth successor after Ashipa.

Ashipa
Ado
Gbobaro (misspelled Guabaro by European scribes)
Akinsemoyin
Kutere (popularly called Olorogun Kutere. The Olorogun in the name is a title, not his name, and means war commander, similar to Balogun)

You will find many people answer to Balogun or Bashorun, or Olorogun as surnames. These are titular offices prefixed to proper names of the office holder, but down the descendancy line children will drop the proper name and just adopt the titular rank as their legacy. This is common across Yorubaland. I will teach you what you lack in accurate history of Yorubaland.

There was nothing called Lagos Island or Lagos Mainland. These are modern appellations made popular after Yakubu Gowon built Eko bridge.

Carter bridge was older than Eko bridge and that term Lagos Island was not even a popular term prior to Eko bridge.

Before Carter bridge was built there were two ports on each side of the lagoon banks. There were produce ports in Ebute Meta for getting market produce across to Ebute Eleja in Isale Eko. There was a port at Oto for shipping hardwares and merchandise across the channel to Ebute Ero. What does this mean?

Isale Eko was residential and ports there served homestead needs for food and produce. Ereko was a market, ports adjoining it served merchants and traders.

There was another port on the southern end of Ereko, at Ehingbeti. Only sea vessels berth here.

So when Lagos was substituted for Eko, the name change did not in anyway alter the geographic settlements nor disrupt authority of the Monarchy over the domain. Oba Eko simply became Oba of Lagos. Indeed in old Portuguese records Eko was also known as Onim (sometimes spelt as Aunim or Oonim).

Interestingly in Portuguese, the "m" ending is a possessive noun, denoting attribute of ownership. Scholars believe this ONIM is a acknowledgement attributing the sphere of influence of the all-powerful Ooni's Imperial power to the coast.

The conclusion is that Oba of Lagos is authentic as the Monarch in Lagos. In its origin, Lagos did not have any other association outside of Isale Eko and Ereko. Infact, subsequent expansions and developments all were completed as domains under the Oba's power, exception being Epetedo. All other names bearing Lagos need to shift.

Let me know if you need more tutoring. grin
Politics / Re: Burkina Abandons French As An Official Language by ImperialYoruba: 3:09pm On Dec 09, 2023
AncientAlien:
The report of the Council of Ministers specifies that this bill "is part of the realization of one of the main missions of the transition which consists of initiating political, administrative and institutional reforms to strengthen the culture democratically and consolidate the rule of law.

Among the "major innovations" of this new text is "the establishment of national languages as official languages in place of French which becomes the working language".

Earlier this year, Mali, governed like Burkina by the military and which also maintains terrible relations with France, had modified its Constitution by referendum and reserved the same fate for the French.

This bill, which must still be voted on by the Transitional Legislative Assembly, also provides for "the establishment of traditional and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms".

The Constitutional Council sees its missions expanded while institutions are abolished such as the High Court of Justice which judges senior political figures or the Mediator of Faso.

Finally, the powerful National Intelligence Agency (ANR) sees its status reinforced by now being protected in the Constitution.

In recent months, several demonstrations for the adoption of a new Constitution have taken place in the country. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who came to power in September 2022, had promised a partial modification of the Constitution two months ago.

“The writing of a new Constitution is a question of political, economic and cultural sovereignty. No one can truly flourish from the concepts of others,” Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem of Tambela declared on Friday, alluding to texts modelled on the French constitution.

Since Captain Traoré came to power, Burkina has moved away from France, a former colonial power and historic partner, while moving closer to Moscow.

Since 2015, Burkina has been caught in a spiral of violence perpetrated by jihadist groups, which were already hitting neighbouring Mali and Niger and which left more than 17,000 dead.

Continue crying on the Internet.

When houses or shops are demolished in SE, ibos are the offenders. When houses are demolished in North, ibos are the offenders. When houses are demolished in SW, ibos are the offenders.

Apparently you are naturally lawless anywhere and everywhere. This is not about ethnicity, ibos are misfits under a civilized system of living. A jungle is a more appropriate habitat for omoibo, than say a living among civilized society.

Besides, Yorubas do not foolishly sink millions erecting a mansion in a strange land. But assuming you find a Yoruba with a 100million naira home in Onitsha, the house will meet all codes, and within legal limits.

Lagos state has 52 officially recognized kings. Geographical location and economic advantage is what gives 1 of the 52 title " Oba of Lagos" over the rest. If ignorance continue to make people stares controversy, the Lagos state house of assembly should enact a law and review the title to something else.

Oba isale eko is better

This suggestion is devoid of logic.

There is only 1 Oba in the entire Lagos Island.
The term " Lagos" is unique to Lagos Island.
It is inorganic to apply "Lagos" to the entire State, many parts of which were redistricted from Western region.

Change title for the state. Call it Awori State,

Aromire is the land baron, Oba of Lagos is the Monarch. A perfect balance!

Point to one Ibo that ever succeeded without the influence of Yoruba.

In finance and trade, Ngozi Iweala is at the top of Ibo success chain. She is the alpha and omega of success in iboland.

Her parents are from Anioma Ibo, which is now Delta, but formerly Midwest, and formerly Western region. When Ngozi attended primary and secondary schools she enjoyed Awolowo's free education programme for Western Nigeria.

In literature, Chinua Achebe is the most accomplished Ibo. He attended and graduated from University of Ibadan. He even worked in Western Broadcasting Station, a legacy from Awolowo's vision.

In military, Emeka Ojukwu is most decorated Ibo hero. He schooled in King's College Lagos. His father's businesses in North were unsuccessful for many years. He relocated his family to Yorubaland. In few years he was successful.

In politics, Nnamdi Azikiwe is the father of Ibo socio-political awakening. He adopted and accepted Yoruba as a superior race to Ibo. He assimilated into the superior culture by showing up in public dressed as a Yoruba man.

OP, name one successful Iboman who made it in life without aid of Yoruba in his or her life.
