TheLeakyTribe: Hello House, just to update you all, I had my son yesterday evening.God be praised.Congrats dear. May the Almighty God bless and keep you both. |
Hi all, thanks for the well wishes. We are very grateful. We are all doing great. Labour and delivery was smooth and short, an answer to our prayers from God. The sleepless nights have been a bit rough. We thank God for his mercies and grace, and for seeing us through the first month. Our son was 1month yesterday. Anyway, we used Gwinnett Medical Centre. Mother's bill was about $4500 (It was initially ~$5000 due to a mistake in the billing, so word of advice, if you are not using a package deal, go through your bill line by line. If in doubt, call the billing department. It is your money, do not be shy! lol). Baby's bill was $900. There was a 40% discount applied to both mother and baby's bills. Cant remember what the total came to, probably about $3300 for mother and baby. Ob/Gyn was North Metro Womens Centre and cost $1950. Regarding our son's documents, we are in Atlanta, so we simply went to the Probate Court in Gwinnett and got the BC three days after birth (gave birth on Thursday, discharged on Friday, went to court on Monday). Then, we went to Rockdale County Courthouse for the US passport. No queues, took no more than 30 minutes. Paid for expedited service. Then, we went to the Nigerian embassy and applied for his Nigerian passport. It cost no more than $100 in total for the Nigerian passport. I apologise, my husband handled all this so I do not know the cost of both his US and Nigerian passports. We got his US passport 8 working days after we applied though we were told at the time of application that it would take 2-3 weeks. The Nigerian passport was to be ready on the 25th of June (we applied on the 12th of June), but we only went today to pick it up. Pediatrician cost us $50 per visit. We have made 3 visits so far. We had two blood tests done because our LO was jaundiced. They have charged us $200 for this but I am waiting for the bill to come in the mail before settling this. We used the hospital pediatrician at birth and were charged $180, which we bargained down to $126 before paying. We still haven't gotten his SSN. We tried to go to the SS office but were told at the office that the hospital was already in the process of applying for it for us as we had ticked same in the forms provided at the hospital. Lessons learnt/advice: 1. Go through each bill diligently. Even oyinbos make mistakes. 2. May opt for a package deal at a hospital that offers same. That way, we will be able to control our costs as they will be fixed from day 1. 3. Do not be shy to bargain and haggle. It is your hard earned Naira. Use it wisely! lol 4. Check every detail on the temporary BC issued by the hospital before applying for the original BC. My maiden name was mistakenly written same as my married name by the hospital. Because we were in a hurry to apply for the BC, we did not wait to receive the temporary one which the hospital mailed to us. Even at the probate court when we realised the mistake, we just accepted it and went on to pay for 3 original BCs. Now, after further thought, we have decided to correct it once and for all as BC is a vital record. This means another ~$55 for 3 new BCs and a trip to Gwinnett county. 5. Pray to God and ask for whatever you want. Even the most random and seemingly unimportant things. I was specific even to the point of asking for a particular birth weight , labour period etc! and my God obliged.6. Be prepared for the after birth phase. I found that to be harder than labour and delivery and pregnancy (heartburn, morning sickness and all) all joined together. Nothing, I mean nothing, could have prepared me for the sleepless nights, incessant worrying and lack of time for myself. 7. Lastly, remember that you are a good mother/parent. You birthed this perfect being and went through 9 months of pregnancy. I am often times hard on myself to be a perfect mum. I am always tired and sometimes moody (the sleepless nights will do that to you!) I sometimes get down on myself and feel like I am not doing a good job. I worry that I am not making the best decisions for my son, that I am carrying him too much or too little. But I am learning everyday, and now I remind myself that it is okay to make mistakes. It is okay to not know how to do everything from day 1. That babies cry, and that is okay too. That this race is not mine to run alone. Parenthood is all about God's grace. May God bless us all and grant us the grace to be the best parents we can be to our LOs!! Cheers, Imp |
Hi guys. Wow! What happened to NL? Even this thread feels deserted. Just checking in. How are all my June mamas? Sorry I have been silent. Our baby boy arrived on the 29th of May, to the glory of God. It has been a learning experience and we have been so focused on him that I had no time for anything else. @Chigoziri? I hail oh. How are you? Has your bundle of joy arrived? Imp! |

"Day 1 complete....these are my confessions. I lied. I lied I was from Uni-Ben as it seems I am the only Foreign student here. I lied that I travelled by bus from Lagos to here via 'Ifeasinachi Transport Limited.' I lied that my mosquito net was not treated. I lied that I have a 'swee-art' waiting for me at home so I had to make a quick call. I lied that things were too expensive when in fact I have no clue what the real prices are outside to even make a comparison. I lied, I lied and I lied." From http://thecorper..com/2012/07/day-1-completethese-are-my-confessions.html A friend of mine posted this on her blog. I found it quite interesting. I could relate to what she was saying. Sometimes, to fit in, Ive had to pretend that I am poor, or that I am not as comfortable as I am, or that I didnt go to good schools. Heck! I had to learn yoruba to complete this facade! Its weird that while some people are busy blowing "fone" and trying to sound "cream", others have to do the opposite to fit in. To cut the long story short, I would like to hear from people who have ever had to lie, when, how and why. Im hoping this would be an interesting thread. Cheers all |
Im in a "mixed" marriage. lol. Its becoming more common these days. I feel like this is so because majority of the new generation are not so steeped in their culture and unwilling to bend like it used to be say 10 years ago. Honestly, every marriage has its challenges and with God, love, maturity and patience, these challenges can be overcome. For some, "he beats me", for others, "hes Ibo, Im Yoruba!". Others complain "she cant cook stones!!" Cultural difference has never been one of our challenges and if it were, we would still have gotten married. We would both have to learn to appreciate one another and our cultures though. We do this anyway, so I guess this is why it hasnt been a problem for us. @OP, if you are contemplating marrying someone from a different culture as yours, pls pray about it. Follow your heart. May God guide you. If he/she is a great person, biko, dont let culture stop you oh! lol Imp! |
Well, I bought a mildly expensive wedding dress and sold it off this year for about $1000. I promised my hubby that we would sell it off after the day and we did just that. So all in all, I think we got a good deal. To be honest, if you can comfortably afford the dress of your dreams, please buy it! But if your hubby cant afford it, dont pressure him. Buy a china imitation (ive seen a few and they looked good) or rent! Shikena. For some people, their wedding dress is the most important thing. For others, its the food and drinks at the wedding, or the car they will buy once they are married. Everyone has their thing! |
That is what you get from watching too much MTV! |
I like how he says "we have received further documentation" at 3.50. I guess he is referring to the $500,000 ![]() Nice one bro! If guilty, may you rot in jail! |
Funkymallam: A very good idea there, we can use this forum to save lives rather than daily e-fights.Seconded! |
@Queen, thank you soo much for bringing this case to our notice. Once you and the TeHN team decide on next steps, please let us know. I will do my best to support in any way that I can. I agree with the poster who talked about filming a documentary. All the causes the TeHN has been involved with, pictures of before and after. It is true that we should not always wait for the government to act. Whatever little we can do, let us do it. If our government wont lead by example, we can do the leading, and let them follow. I also agree that Seun should play an active role in this. Afterall, whatever publicity this movement garners (my prayer is that more people will continue to support the cause), will eventually result in more money in his pocket. My heart breaks thinking of Perx but I realise that the love that NLs showed her is all that matters in the end. Keep up the good work NL! Im so happy knowing the good ones are not all gone! God bless you all! Imp..... |
yes finally! lets hope for the best! Its been a strange wait to be honest.... Anyway, heres wishing all YouWIn hopefuls a successful end to this campaign |
RIP Uncle! My condolences go out to your family! May God grant them the fortitude to bear this loss Omg! This is sad ![]() |
doofanc: Na ethics i in chop abi?Im not sure about that. Sometimes, by staying put in such companies, one may find themselves involved in a criminal investigation years or months down the line. I have heard of accountants at companies being jailed for crimes the bosses committed, which they may or may not have even known about. These days, most accountants try to cover their behinds by keeping copies of mails, memos and instructions that go through their desks. If given the choice, 2months unemployment whilst searching for a new job after resigning from a morally corrupt organisation, or 10 years in jail, I would choose the former. I choose life. At least, I come out with my integrity, self respect and pride intact. |
I totally agree with you OP. These days, unethical behavior in companies has become the norm. Our moral compasses are rapidly shifting. The list of these practices is endless. Gosh! Whilst relatively new to the corporate world in Nigeria, I have fast learnt that it is near impossible to find a company devoid of this behavior. Heck, if Goldman can be accused of unethical practices, then who can't? I recently resigned from my post at my former company because of this. Whilst I will not go as far as Greg in naming and shaming, I just refuse, as a matter of principle, to participate in or contribute to any such activities. I just felt that if I stayed, then I would be just as guilty as my bosses and other company staff. Everyday for the thief, one day for the owner, eh? I know that taking a stand is usually costly to whoever does so, but for me, it is the only way that I can sleep well at night. The day I resigned was the happiest day of my life. I felt lighter, like a huuge weight had been lifted off of me. May God give us the courage to take a stand, to do the right thing, at whatever personal cost to us. |
The talented mr. ripley ![]() Ask me again in a year's time, not sure what i wud say, lol |
I loooove cricket!! Yay! glad to see some Nigerians luv the sport. I used to be a huuge fan of football but not so much anymore. I am a fan of the Aussies (initially just cos my fave tennis player, Pat Rafter is an Aussie, lol) and the England cricket Team. Strange combo right? How do I get thru the Ashes? lol. Well, its the best time of the year for me cos either way, my team wins! lmao! Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne are two of my faves, as well as Nasser Hussain, Freddy Flintoff and Graeme Thorpe for England. Michael Clarke and Kevin Pieterson hav my attention atm. At topic, lol, I prefer cricket to football cos there isnt much racism and hooliganism involved, compared to football. Its a gentleman's game! Despite the long 50over days, I love cricket cos of the moments of drama it produces. Very few sports are influenced so greatly by changing weather conditions. Its pure science! I love it! The sight of Gilchrist smashing 6's allover the place on a sunny day, on a flat pitch or of Warney on a damp or overcast day, spinning the ball like only him and Murali can, is the stuff that dreams are made of! Lastly, I love cricket cos its sooo complex, full of the strangest names and terms that very few understand and watch it. . My husband has asked (and I have obliged) a zillion times for me to explain the sport to him. We never get past the different meanings of WICKET!!! ![]() Just MHO. Hav a great day all! |

Hi guys! I remember I read this thread through and through last year. It started out of boredom and then I was moved and touched by the thread and the comraderie on here. I feel like I even know all of u guys sef. Good work guys. To all the 2009 hopefuls, I salute u. I know how it must feel. Ive been on the mobil waiting list since last year august or so too. ![]() We have all been hearing different conflicting intel as regards medicals IVs etc. Some ppl are adamant that this week IS the week, whilst some say before the end of the month. Everyone says their intel is "confirmed" but I have no way of knowing. My point it, lets not loose hope. The God that brought us this far wont leave us now? But sha, I am tired of waiting too and wish Shell will just send out the IVs already. Have a great week all! |
Read EEE in unilag, however, n very surprisingly, my fave course was one I did in final year: Engr. Law and Management. In that course, I felt like I had finally found my niche, my home n comfort zone. I had previously thot i dint like reading (except novels and magazines) but i thoroughly enjoyed reading up all the Law cases. It was like real-life John Grisham for me . As for the Management part, I was the best student in Eco in high scl so again, i luvd doin this course. It also helped that math has always been very easy for me too. ![]() shevalync:good one! ![]() damilola15:this kinda describes me tooo, ZE:I totally agree. |
How can a man (an educated one for that matter), with what seemed like his very last breath, (seriously, did u hear that recording? lol) choose to send the white man to us Nigerians. Not even a direct 5min call to NTA or VON to reassure his "fellow citizens" Shio! Even though I no that this is a sick joke, I can only say to whoever organised this: "WAKE UP SLOWPOKE!!! THIS IS NOT 1953! ITS 2010, YOU NO MORE HAVE TO REPORT TO THE BRITISH OR WAIT ON THEM FOR ORDERS!" Who would be so dumb as to assume we would believe this ? And with all that has gone on in his absence (Mu-Mu bomber and co), all he could talk about to Raypower is the African Cup of Nations![]() OMG! What is this world turning into ![]() |
