Hello pro builders in the house. I will be starting my building project soon and I have been thinking about roof designs. Personally, I like the feel of flat roofs. But I had lived in a house that leaked heavily (just decking, no roofs). And this has given me reason to rethink. The typical roof designs in Nigeria are pitched. Is this because of our weather? Is it more expensive or cheaper in the long run? The idea for a flat roof is because I intend having a vegetable garden on the roof and of course DIY solar assemblies. Will this decision cost me more in the long run? And yes, I have limited funds ![]()

Trust2001:That's not how the Nigerian police works. They beat you of you resist. And if you sheepishly obey and follow them yo the station, you'll have to drop something or risk being implicated. |
@Op, this is not a new thing in PH. In some parts of Diobu, boy get arrested for wearing an unbuttoned shirt on top a polo. Sometime last year, several boys were arrested or threatened because they had tattoos on at Town area. The particular culprits in this case is SARS. Those criminals are just out for money and very unprofessional. For young men living in PH, always dress responsibly. |
ShegzyB:Amen. I had to move mine to Bayelsa. The whole community boys issue is worrisome. |
Oblo everyone is looking for you oooooo... Where you dey. I sent you a pm, thanks. |
Seedworld:Okay naw. Make we schedule meeting in the coming weeks, upper week maybe. Will send you a message on whatsapp. |
Agritech:Great thanks. More questions coming shortly. |
Seedworld:Did you just say you are in Port Harcourt? |
Pavore9:My Oga pavore, I sent you a mail recently, I don't know if you received it. Are you on whatsapp? |
@op Step 6: Why not fresh manure? And in preparing your compost, how long do you wait? |
@Op, I commend your resilience. First, I like the fact that you have realized that making money online is not easy. But then, making a lot of money is very easy. I'll explain shortly. I have been on fiverr for quite sometime time; created my first gig on March, 2015 and I have been a fulltime freelancer since then (and yes, my account is Nigerian). I can't disclose how much I earn, but believe me, it is rivals and sometimes beats what entry level graduates earn in the oil & gas industry. Why am I telling you this? Why your aim is to gradually build, like you said, build your skills. I repeat, build your skills. Ask yourself, why would a musician charge 500k just to sing in an event and another would be hustling for that same position? Skills, positioning, exposure, and specialization. So in choosing a skill, choose something you can build on. Take courses, so not be afraid to invest in yourself - Udemy, Lynda.com, Treehouse, these are all great platforms to learn. I will rest at this point. Goodluck guys. |
saydfact:Thanks if that's he case, I may go with option 2. |

Well done op, you are really doing a great job. I have intentions of getting a piece of land early next month and saw two options for a plot. 1. 1 plot with cassava stems (minor clearing) - 600k 2. 1 plot with trees, virgin land - 450k From the cost of clearing I saw on the first page, 10-20k per plot. Is it advisable to go for 2 plots of option two or 1 plot of option 1? Thanks. |
ShegzyB:Have you started your building in PH? |

Ahhhh... Na read and pass? Make una help a brother naw |
Hello Nairalanders, good morning. As part of my plans for this year, I intend taking partial vacations every 3 months to visit nice sites and places in Nigeria. And my first official vacation should be ending of next month/first week of April. I am an introvert and an indoor person, and I am trying to break this jinx by exploring Nigeria first. So please, I need recommendations on top affordable sites to visit. Typically, I will spend one week in each state and I will be looking for affordable hotels (nothing high end), meals, and mind blowing trills. Brief details: 1. I am traveling alone 2. Budget for each trip #50-80k 3. I have visited a couple of Nigerian cities in the South, East, and West - (Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Owerri, Aba, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa), and these will come last on my list. 4. I am considering Ikot Ekpene but not sure 5. I am particularly looking for affordable, yet comfortable hotels and things really worth my stay. Thanks in anticipation. |
celeron40:As much as I'd love to argue, brother, I have gone past this point. It's your life, your perspective, your choices. Whatever rocks your boat. |
Thanks to Oga Ceejay80s. My UPS, fans, smart charger and battery arrived in good shape, now fully operational and charged. Abeg make una give me membership card. I didn't want to interfere with the house connections so I ran a different wiring for the system. Only what needs to be powered will be powered.

Baba Ceejay thanks so much for your help. I have decided to get all these. My only challenge now is getting them (good ones). I was supposed to touch Lagos, but activities don full my schedule, I need to go back to base. Do these guys handle shipping to other states? Anybody for help me with the purchase? Thanks Or Biko is there any seller in Ph here? |
Heavance:You always have to tread with caution with these guys o. I no won hear accidental discharge. They even asked of my aunt's picture and proof that we are related. Can you imagine? |
I have read countless tales of members of the police force harassing people but I never thought it would happen to me. Mine was less of an harassment though, because I know their tactics. So here's my story. I traveled to Ibadan, Oyo State to pick up my B.Sc certificate, and I have been here for almost 3 weeks. My plan was to travel back next week, so I decided to get 1 or 2 things, since things are generally cheaper in Ibadan. I did all my running around and it was time to visit the market. Guess what? I got flagged down by a mean-looking police officer (fine boy sha) wearing a bulletproof vest and wielding an AK47 around Dugbe police station (for those familiar with Ibadan). That wasn't a problem, I cleared and one of their personnel entered the car (mind you, I was driving my aunt's car, I was with someone from home, and I had my extended temporary license). Before this dude entered, I had alighted to shake his hands and asked him how he was doing (forming boss). He sat at the front and the passenger had to go behind. Next we drove into their station. I wasn't really disturbed even though I checked the papers of the car earlier and they had expired few months ago. Na so them carry me enter station oooo. I tried being friendly with this guy, asked questions about the search, if they had a tip off or something. This guy (I call him guy because he looks very young - by my analysis he shouldn't be up to 30 years, probably 25 or 26) searched in and out of the car - boot, under the foot mats, pidgin hole, sides of the car, etc. Next I and my passenger (let's call him Wale) were lead to an office. I wasn't unsettled, I had already told them him that I am a graduate of UI, and my mission in Ibadan. He had us take out our phones. I had two phones on me and Wale had one. Wale's phone was briefly checked. He asked about our relationship (Wale works for my aunt). Wale was asked to move away, leaving me and this police man. He tried unlocking my phone. I gladly gave him my password. He went through and then asked what I did for a living. I am a full time freelancer so that wasn't an issue. I told him - animations, market research, copy writing and graphics design. I just asked him to check my fiverr app to confirm. I tried showing him he resisted. Wo, I never chop, I relaxed. This idiot decided to go through my mails, and my text messages. Saying he is looking for internet fraud. I laughed. For 30 minutes this guy was going through my phones. And then came the shocker. He asked if I am registered with CAC, and if I have an office. What does my family do for a living. I gave him details. But hell no, you don't expect me to register my fiverr business with CAC and rent an office space for that. I have about 4 emails all linked on my phone - 1 personal, 3 job related. He started questioning me about my emails. Even when my email names clearly states what I do - lordofcontent (for my copy writing service), animation guru (for my animation services), etc. Two other cops walked in (the guy that flagged me and someone else) and they went to the corner, discussed a bit and came back to me. Guess what the new idiot asked me - where is my Id card for my email. At this point, I stood up from my sit and gave him a run down of what I do. He insisted I must have an id card. When they noticed nothing was forthcoming they handed me back my phones and particulars and the story changed from you are wrong to find us something. I carefully gave them a run down of my accomplishments - 1 national award (Diamond bank challenge), 1 international award (Peter Drucker), and several others. I asked them to Google my name or my business name and see the search results. And that was how they left me. So if I didn't have all these or didn't stand my ground, na so police for take me shine. If I didn't know military personnel (this was where my confidence came from - even though I never mentioned it until I was released) they would have made a mess of me. Eventually, I gave one of them #500 out of goodwill when I got back to the car, and we exchanged contacts. But please to the necessary authorities, train police men. They are grossly incompetent, they don't know anything. These guys claimed detectives and were asking for an ID card for my email addresses. My case is just one in thousands and others may not be so lucky. It is now a crime for a young person to have or drive a good car. This shouldn't be so. I rest my case. Please pardon me if there are typos. I no proofread jare. Seun, Lalasticlala |
