Enjoying your journey. For the benefit of those of us who aren't familiar with NYSC, what does CDS stand for? Google isn't helping.
Oh, sorry. It means Community Development Service. Service you render to your host community - could be extra classes to students, sex education, sanitation, road safety enlightenment, etc.
BusinessRe: My Startup Journey by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op):
It is commonly said that man proposes and God opposes. What appeared to me as the start of something great may have been brought to a sudden pause.

I finally travelled to my NYSC station and met the shock of my life. All these while I have shuffled my base and NYSC every Thursday for CDS.

I met them when the term was about to close so I settled on resuming September.

Being a hyperactive or rather meticulous person, I arrived Wednesday to beat Thursday holdup and meet CDS, as I had missed it the previous week.

Once again, there was holdup and I arrived late. Met a wet bed and cloths, but I settled in and slept like that. Enough about my woes.

There are two things I need to work - power and internet connection. None is present here. The network is not strong enough to work on my laptop and even on my mobile phone, it selects the sites I visit.

As for NEPA, GOD will judge them. Power supply here is epileptic.

I have two options - get a room in the city and travel every morning to my PPA and back. Implications - stress, cost of housing, transportation and risk of traveling.

Option 2 - Stuff myself with books and materials, courses.

I have chosen to settle for option two.
While keeping my business and clients in mind, I will go home every weekend and handle some jobs. Get a lot of books and videos to carry me through the week.

On my list are:
Digital marketing
Photo manipulation
Internet marketing
Programming
And a lot of business books

I have also decided to make out time and apply for the Shell Entrepreneurship stuff. God help me.
Jobs/VacanciesDrawing A Line Between Formal And Informal Meetings by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op):
I wanted to post this in the business section but I felt job seekers and career people will benefit more from this.

Social media has become ridiculously popular and this is a good thing. As a matter of fact, I hardly make calls.

The downside and somewhat good side of this is that we use short words - "u" in place of "you". Messages get across faster but we soon get accustomed to these words.

I won't beat around the bush but personally, I get shivers when someone I just met sends words like yeah, Yh, hey, watsapp, etc. in a chat, especially when the supposed conversation is meant to be professional.

As a recommendation, no matter who you are chatting with, endeavor to write complete words and correct sentences in the first few lines and change accordingly as the person changes.

Yesterday wasn't all I expected. I spent the bulk of my day searching for an image software. I thought I had it but it went missing when I upgraded my OS - vector magic to be precise.

This disorganized me a bit. Slept late searching for a free version or an alternative. Been awake since 2 searching.

Well, I have to improvise because I must deliver my job today.

I believe everything will go well. I will keep searching or opt for a paid version.

My plans for today - finish yesterday's jobs.

Yesterday was one of the few weekends I have had. For some reasons, I shoved work aside and slept all through the day.

I proceeded to create Twitter and Facebook pages later in the evening.
I also spoke with friends and colleagues about my brand.

I still have 3 research jobs and 1 animation so I'll be quite busy after church.
I need to round up with my website design and begin full promotion.

Happy Sunday, remain blessed.

Yesterday was rather unproductive. I didn't do all I had set out to do.

Activities
Handled a DIY SEO article for someone
Did preliminary market research

I was able to get a free software to merge my videos.
I uploaded a couple on YouTube and the quality reduces drastically. I figured a lot folks on the internet are facing the same challenge.

After trying WMV, FLV, and the recommended MP4, I finally settled to FLV format as my final file. It looked great on my mobile and when using my laptop to watch the YouTube, sometimes it is clear (my guess is that internet speed has an effect on this).

Today I will continue with my research, as well as handle a sales brochure for a client.

Links to my YouTube channel will come during the day. Feel free to advice, criticize, or subscribe.

Remain blessed.

I ended up traveling yesterday - a totally unproductive adventure, thanks to Nigerian roads. An hour's journey became three. In the process I lost two clients but at the end of the day gained two more in the market research niche.

I also uploaded my website banners to my site. All in all, I bless God.

I tried uploading them on nl, all to no avail. You will get to see them when the site is fully up.

I was also able to create a YouTube channel for my whiteboard animations and a company intro for all my jobs (I paid someone to do this part).
Currently searching for a software to merge two videos together (intro and animation), as well as render in mp4 (standard WAV format comes out blurred on YouTube).

My plans for today - write some more content, handle outstanding jobs, and maybe treat myself to a meal in the evening.
BusinessRe: My Startup Journey by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op):
Between Monday and today, Thursday, I have been writing content for my website. I figured, the nature of my startup requires active online presence and this is the first thing that needs to be done.

The previous week has been both wasteful and tasking for me. I opted for a partnership to build my site. My supposed partner was sourced for on fiverr. Eventually all went well but I noticed some irregularities.
My loaded master card has a #10,000 cap so I couldn't purchase domain and hosting for a year. I asked my partner to purchase but he insisted he doesn't have a credit card.
I went for a month, just to get the site off the ground.
Ideally, since I have spent some money on hosting and domain, he is supposed to go in and design. But then, he asked for money. I was perplexed.
Instead of paying him to design and still maintain a partnership, I'd rather pay an outright fee.

He still insisted on a partnership so I went in to scrutinize the samples he sent. What happened next was a shocker. One of the jobs has been sent to me as a sample by another web designer.
I didn't bother beating around the bush. Our partnership was over. This all happened last week.

I proceeded to build the site myself but met a brick wall. Images uploaded came out cracked. I contacted some experts on fiverr once again. None could fix it. One suggested the challenge was from my hosting providers. I had to buy a new domain and hosting. Another suggested I upgraded my OS to 10. I did, all to no avail. A hosting company I used in the past but wasn't impressed.
Well this new server had issues. I couldn't log in to my account. I didn't want to take chances with the experts so I went back to my former hosting company.
The deal is that I will pay a dollar for every image uploaded.

I started writing content for my website, and designing my website banner. I will post the samples at a later time. I also handled a video animation for a client.

I am contemplating traveling this morning for CDS. It just started raining here.

Today I will give an insight into what my startup is about.

My freelance days started on Nairaland with the help of ladywriter. Yes, you know the make $1,000 thread.

In exactly one year being a freelancer writer, I have grown to add other skills. My skill set includes:

Market research
Website content
SEO services
Copy writing
Whiteboard animation
Graphics Design

Others
Resume writing
Transcription services

I am still a newbie in the last two and I am very selective when it comes to accepting related jobs.

My startup revolves around providing the first 6 services to global and local brands or businesses, with particular focus on startups.

Why are these relevant?
Irrespective of how fabulous an idea may appear, chances are that it will fail within the first few years because of wrong decisions relating to target market, location, and competition analysis, etc.

Go past being relevant, a lot of businesses cannot engage their audience. Copy writing will help eliminate this.
The list goes on and on.

I'll stop here for today.
BusinessMy Startup Journey by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op):
I was inspired by 1K001 to document my efforts.

My name is Clement and I am many things to many people. For a start, I am a mechanical engineering graduate currently serving Nigeria.

I love business and I have come to full acceptance of the bearing of my life. 7 years ago, if anyone had asked me, I would say I wanted to be the greatest engineer in the world. Fast forward to the present and I want to be an extremely rich man.

Thinking aback, I concluded I had a penchant for business. My first attempt at business was at age 15. I configured phones to browse. The whole idea was still new then. Soon after I bought some shares. I believe the company has folded.

100 level came and I took a paid course on web design. Joomla and WordPress were probably nonexistent then.

In 200 level, I brushed up my graphics design skills and handled some jobs.

300 I started a printing and photocopying business on campus.

In 400, I moved out of campus and continued designing.

In 500, I became a freelance writer and designer.

I always told myself that I will never search for a job after school and God is helping me. I also told myself that I will never touch my allawee. Well, I haven't right from camp.

I hope this helps me press on and inspires someone in the process.

InvestmentAdvice On Investing In Stocks by INDESTRUCTABLEX(op): 3:11pm On Aug 20, 2015
Please I need expert advice on investing in stocks.

My first attempt at trading was several years ago, at the age of 16 precisely. I saw my friend's dad talk about investing so much so that I had no choice but to put in some money. I invested #2,000 in Dunlop shares (2k was big money for a student in secondary school).

Fast forward to a couple of years, the market crashed. My friend's dad sold his car. This became hard. I learnt he invested all he had.

For me I don't know if Dunlop still exists or whether my stock broker is still alive. But I have been following one of Africa's richest men and he categorically said shares is more profitable than real estate.

This has triggered my interest to reinvest. At least I have a lot of idle fund.

My questions in particular.

Is shares still profitable?
How do I go about investing? I know I need training and demo
What's the minimum reasonable amount I can invest?

Thanks in anticipation.

X.

Hello gamers. Although I am not a chronic gamer, I have seasons of intense gaming - dump the jobs and game for days.

Around 2008, 2009, I had this very tight PV game I never ended. For some reasons, it was deleted and I have since been searching for it.

Deux Ex. I have tried all the torrent links I know but still haven't found it.

The graphics may not be very tight but it still competes with some high-end games today. And I don't rest until I finish a game I started.

Please anyone with a link or CD will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

BusinessRe: Before Wal-mart Comes To Nigeria By Chidi Oguamanam by INDESTRUCTABLEX(m): 2:58pm On Aug 08, 2015
Freemanan:
The vastly reported news of Wal-Mart’s plan to branch into Nigeria – Africa’s largest economy – through Nigeria’s commercial hub of Lagos is a game changer for all actors in Nigeria’s retail landscape. But beyond the obvious, the reception accorded to Wal-Mart and the support that has been pledged to it is typical of Africa’s race to the bottom in the search for foreign direct investments (FDIs).
Recently, the Governor of Lagos, Nigeria’s most cosmopolitan State, was full of smiles and excitement as he hosted regional executives of America’s global retail chain, Wal-Mart. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode rolled out the red carpet and literally gave the Wal-Mart envoys a blank cheque of support from the Lagos State Government for the anticipated anchoring of Wal-Mart’s ship on Lagos and, definitely, Nigeria’s shores. The Governor made an obvious argument regarding the status of Lagos as Africa’s most populous city and viable market. He also showed excitement at the prospect of employment opportunities for Nigerians that will come from Wal-Mart’s imminent joining of other burgeoning global and regional retail chains already in Lagos.
Wal-Mart will naturally revel in the over-advertised trump card of the transnational corporate establishment as a mega employment generator. African governments have been known to not interrogate or scrutinize these assurances, which they often habitually over compensate to the detriment of national interest. And foreign direct investors expectedly play the script well since they are regularly courted across the continent in a zero sum competition game. It is simple: “If you do not make it ‘conducive’ for us to invest in your country, we will go elsewhere. After all, we are in a globalized economy”.
But more constructive engagement is necessary for Nigeria and particularly Lagos in this case. If not for anything, for the very obvious – Nigeria has a distinctive factor endowment as Africa’s largest economy and arguably the continent’s largest skilled middle class. Wal-Mart comes with a negative and not-so-negative reputation. On the face of it, the Wal-Mart brand has incredible, value-chain development potential. But Wal-Mart does not have an enviable profile in regard to its dealings with the desk-end employees it habitually confines to minimum wage. That is also the unwritten argument that such jobs are not for life. This is the reason Wal-Mart remains the contemporary global face of historic tension between capital and labour.
In a country, where the labour laws exist mainly on the books, will Wal-Mart exploit Nigeria’s situation or rise to the challenge of corporate responsibility and international best practices? The argument of job creation recalls the same arguments of transnational agricultural corporations that grab vast agricultural land across the African continent. As soon as they displace subsistent farmers from their ancestral lands, the only jobs created are those for a handful uniform-wearing, walkie-talkie-clutching security men, a few tractor drivers, and hordes of cleaners, chauffeurs and domestic aides. The ceding governments often have no plan for absorbing the displaced informal agricultural communities, especially women!
Yet it is possible to engage Wal-Mart and similar travelers on the FDI highway. In specific regard to Wal-Mart, Nigeria’s nook and cranny can serve as viable supply chain for Wal-Mart’s wares in contrast to the retail giant’s excessive dependence on China-made goods. Looking inwards is a win-win that would ultimately support qualitative employment and local entrepreneurship. Beyond allotting Wal-Mart privileged real estate in Lagos and other urban centers, in addition to extra juicy inducements of FDI, governments should insist upon qualitative quid pro quo arrangements through creative expatriate quota laws and indigenous-friendly regulatory regime. They should demand from Wal-Mart a strategy for developing and grounding their supply chain within the host country. From Oron, Amazano, Elele, Ntigha, Umunede, Ijebu Igbo, Otta, Ikire, Effon-Alaiye, Iseyin, Kafanchan and Malunfasi to all parts of Nigeria’s hinterlands. There is youthful energy for agriculture and various aspects of local entrepreneurship can key into Wal-Mart’s supply and value chain. This suggestion has greater economic ramification for Nigeria than Wal-Mart’s addiction to China as the supplier of its wares. With its global network and expertise, Wal-Mart can put itself in a position where it will bridge the gap in packaging, transportation and preservation of goods from Nigeria’s hinterlands to its cosmopolitan centers.
Within that confluence of manufacturing, distribution and retail, Wal-Mart can creatively be a catalyst for authentic and empowering job creation in Nigeria. But that will not be the case if all it has to offer are ‘T’ shirts from Indonesia or India, belts and handbags from China, apples from Annapolis Valley, bananas from Dominican Republic, pistachios from California, coconuts from Jamaica, etc. Let the Wal-Mart in Nigeria be a Nigerian Wal-Mart. That desire neither belies the reality of globalized retail market nor does it underestimate Nigerians’ taste for all things foreign. Rather, it reinforces Nigeria’s comparative advantage in the manufacturing and supply of specific items for integration into the global retailer’s supply chain with opportunity for blending Nigerian branded products and even services into Wal-Mart’s global reach.
Another peculiarity of a Nigerian Wal-Mart is that it would inevitably diverge from the brand’s low price and egalitarian customer appeal. In Nigeria, Wal-Mart will be for the urban middle and upper class. Perhaps, rightly so; in the light of the incredible gulf between the rich and poor in Nigeria for which Wal-Mart’s wares and services would be priced out of the reach of the poorest of the poor. Add to that, the inaccessibility of slum dwellers to the retailer’s predictably choicy locations in increasingly segregated Nigerian mega urban centers. Like other game changers, Wal-Mart would be a disruptive influence on Nigeria’s informal retail landscape and the country’s informal economic hinterlands. For as long as our governments are incapable of providing solution to mitigate such disruptions, let Wal-Mart remain in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano.
Nigerian governments and regulators should ensure they do not allow Wal-Mart and its ilk to play into the long-held but skewed philosophy of American monopolists: “that strength gives the strong in the market the right to destroy its neighbor,” those that are weaker. Wal-Mart in Africa must be prepared to operate with a commitment to balance wealth with the commonwealth, a lesson long lost to corporate America, but which must form a foundation for the new corporate-driven, commercial, and economic transformation happening across Africa.

It would depend on a lot of factors. I can't give you a figure off the top of my head. undecided

Mini- Gas Skid: You can start with a mini gas skid with one or two filling heads & scales, and a 5MT gas storage tank. I don't advocate anything less than 5MT for starters, because of the need to recoup logistics costs charged by the LPG Gas Trucks that deliver the gas. Total capacity of the Gas tank should be at least 6.5 -7MT in order to make allowance for the required 20% regulatory ullage space to prevent pressure build-up;

Medium Size Skid: You could go for a medium size LPG Storage Skid of 10MT to 15 MT with about 3-4 filling heads and scales, or a digital LPG auto-gas dispenser and 2 filling heads/scales;

Standard Gas Plant: Or you could have a standard 20MT to 30MT LPG Gas Plant with 5-8 filling heads & scale on a standard 4 plots of land.

Please note that you require fires suppression or prevention systems to be installed in each of these locations as well. wink

With the mini-gas skid, you need less than a plot size, but please ensure it is located in a commercial area close to the expressway, where an LPG Truck bringing the gas can easily turn and manoeuvre to discharge its contents into your storage tank. Accessibility is very important.

You could also arrange to lease space in an already existing petrol station, to place your mini gas skid there, in order to attract customers and get visibility. cool

With a medium sized gas plant, you would also need to have at least 2 plots or more (need to check the DPR guidelines);

With a standard size gas plant, at least 4 plots is required. Safety, security, proper installation and accessibility is very important. shocked

Provision of adequate fire extinguishers, laying of pipes, valves, connectors, security and safety equipment adds to the cost of setting up the LPG skid or plant. A price cannot be given, as a survey would first have to be conducted, to ascertain the kind of civil works to be carried out to install the gas skid or gas plant, the type of equipment selected and all the other costs associated with provision of fire prevention systems. undecided

Finally, DPR Licensing is required for all these different types of gas plants.

Kindly read the DPR guidelines for more information: https://dpr.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Procedure-Guide-for-Construction-of-LPG-Filling-Plant-and-Autogas-Station.pdf
Thanks. Already read through DPR guidelines. I will proceed to understudy before kicking off. Where are you located?

Once again, I have been compelled to post this. Before I proceed, I must commend oga StPrince for being patient with me.

I joined freelancer at August, 2014. I made some money (actually, I made substantial amount without lifting a finger).
In October, 2014, I joined fiverr. I didn't create a gig until March, 2015 (thanks to cremeandchic).

Now what do I want to emphasize on? I want to talk about the ABILITY TO SEE BEYOND.

I am a very hardworking person and at the same time very lazy or rather easily bored. I have rejected well-paying projects in the past because I feel they were too long - Note: The prices were okay.

Hence, the first ingredient of success in freelancing is knowing yourself. I know I don't like lengthy projects so I outsource them in most cases. However, I always handled the first few projects to gain trust.

I started of writing articles for $0.75 - $1 per 500 words. Soon after I got well paying jobs. $3-5/500 words. I figured I could handle assignments so I opted for that option. It paid me big time.

Calculus, philosophy, and engineering law came in handy. This was all on freelancer.

In March, I tried fiverr, creating my first article writing gig.
Next I went in for proofreading and editing.
When our madam talked about market research, I opted to be trained.
That is three fields I offer.
Long before I started writing I was a graphics designer. I watched videos, bought course, and refreshed my skills.
I soon added logo and business card designs to my gig.
Currently I offer video animations and it is selling.

All this happened in 4 months and I have become a level 2 seller. And yes, I didn't change my IP address. I am a Nigerian and appear as a Nigerian on all platforms.

In summary, I will highlight ways to succeed as a freelancer.

-know yourself
-connect with your customers. A client once promised me to buzz her if I am ever in the US.
- seek for ways to improve your customer experience. Whoever needs and article most likely has a website. If you have a website you need traffic and top-notch representation. I offer to design banners and logos at discounted price. I also handle their social media pages and create animations for them. That in my opinion is the whole package. And I will keep thinking of new ways.
- be passionate. I love what I do and my clients know.
- finally, pray and maintain your integrity.

I hope this helps someone become better.
