In the past, the blame for the growth of drug-resistant superbugs was pinned on doctors who over- prescribed antibiotics to patients but alas, it has been discoverd that there is the over-use of drugs within the agricultural world, especially in the production of cheap supermarket chicken.


Experts are warning that the overuse of antibiotics in poultry farms around the world is creating a generation of superbugs that are resistant to treatment by virtually every drug in the medical armoury.

These bacteria, can be transferred to humans during the handling of infected meat or the eating of undercooked produce.

The bacteria will then survive in the gut before potentially triggering illnesses such as persistent urinary infections or, more seriously, blood poisoning, also known as sepsis.The condition strikes hard and fast and kills 37,000 people a year in the UK.

So here is it...it really is hard to determine what chicken has been grown with excessive drugs or not...but to be on a safe side, always buy a live chicken, locally grown when you can!

The stunt was organized at the music festival by costume experts Escapade to raise money for Help For Heroes, the charity for injured servicemen and their families and the event was the three-day Kendal Calling festival in the Lake District, UK. The company gave away hundreds of free Superman costumes to encourage people to join in.

Previously, the record had been set by 556 people but it was broken recently as 867 people of the 1200 people who were present for the count.

A pair of conjoined twins have been born in India with two heads but just one body.

The boys' heads, nervous systems and backbones are separate. The backbones are joined below the pelvis and they share a rib cage and shoulder girdle.

Doctors say they believe they can save the lives of the boys who were born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Wednesday.

Dr. S.D. Sharma, medical superintendent of J.K. Lone Hospital, said that such cases are very rare, especially in boys and are known as Dicephalic Parapagus. He added that this is the first case in Rajasthan and second in India.

Most of the time, children that are Dicephalic Parapagus are born dead and, in the vast majority of cases, are girls, reports CBS. But doctors are hoping they can help the boy.

It seems that the unwritten rule among vulcanizers is that any car driven into their workshop or makeshift tent must have its tyres inflated, no matter the level of pressure in the tyres! In this way, the owner of the vehicle is made to cough out some money.

The experiences of many motorists in show that most vulcanizers give different readings of tyre pressure.

For example, after the first vulcanizer has said that your tyre is over- inflated, another one reads it as under-inflated. Then a third vulcanizer will commend your decision to check the tyre pressure as any further delay could have been suicidal.

“What some of these guys do is that they don’t even read the pressure at all. They fix the gauge and, in a twinkle of an eye, they shout, ‘No air.’

“The truth is that the pressure may be okay. But, they feel that admitting it may deny them the opportunity to make extra money. So they will tell you that there is no air.

“They pretend to inflate the pressure and turn around to reduce it and collect money from you,” Mr. Okoli Udeh, who operates a commercial vehicle in the city, says.

Experts have warned motorists not to inflate their tyres beyond 40psi or 280kpa. As if to buttress this, the report posted on tyresafe.org says, “Don’t inflate your tyres above 40 psi or 280 kpa. By keeping them at their optimum pressure, your running costs are also reduced. Under-inflated tyres require a bigger force to make them turn, so your car uses more fuel. Additionally, tyres that are not set to their correct pressure wear out more quickly.”

Beyond safety, some motorists cut fuel costs by maintaining accurate tyre pressures.

The Federal Road Safety Commission recommends a complete tyre change after two years, but the life span becomes shorter with inappropriate tyre pressure.

Most vulcanisers in Abuja are accused of using faulty or low-grade gauges to read tyre pressures. Some of them deliberately empty the air in the tyre, even when they know that the reading is accurate, only to inflate it again. The owner of the vehicle is promptly billed!

“The faulty gauges they use can only fetch one result: wrong reading. That is why vulcanisers keep telling you different stories.

“It looks like a deliberate ploy to get money out of motorists at any cost,” another resident, Musa Liman, argues.

Investigation shows that many of the vulcanisers lack the basic knowledge of some factors that may account for changes in tyre pressure.

For instance, experts say that the best time to read tyre pressure is in the morning or before the vehicle is used. This is because tyre pressure tends to increase on its own in hot weather or after gliding on hot surfaces for a long time.

But, many vulcanisers lack this basic knowledge. Thus, by lying that your tyre is under-inflated, though it already contains too much air, they endanger your life.

Stressing this point further, Tyresafe.org notes, “Recommended tyre inflation pressures are always for cold tyres, which means you should check the tyres in the morning before the vehicle has been driven.

“Driving heats up the tyres and causes the air inside to expand. If you check the tyres right after driving, therefore, the readings will be at least several pounds higher than normal.

“Hot weather raises air pressure inside the tyres, while cold weather lowers it. So air may have to be added or vented from the tyres to compensate for seasonal variations as well.”

A vulcaniser named Sulieman Salihu blames the gauge used by most of his colleagues to read pressure for the problem.

He notes that when a gauge reads incorrectly, a vulcaniser either adds air or reduces it.

Salihu says, “There are times when it is obvious to everyone that a tyre needs air; you don’t necessarily have to read it because it is obvious. The tyre is without air, you can even feel it with your hands. The driver himself drove the car to your shop after detecting that the air is low. What do you do? I believe that it is not everybody that wants to cheat.”

To inflate a single tyre costs N50 in the city; an average of N200 for four tyres, if you have to inflate all.

The driver spends about the same amount again if the next vulcaniser comes up with a different pressure reading – a hole in the pocket for some people, considering that pressure checks are recommended every week.

There was drama as Prince William’s wife, Kate, on Monday gave birth to a baby boy, the Prince of Cambridge.Her royal highness, the Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24pm and the baby weighed 8lbs 3.8 kilos.

Already, economic impacts have begun to trail the birth of the Prince with baby wears being re-designed.

The birth came later than widely expected,with the Duchess arriving hospital in the middle of a thunderstorm. The royal couple used a back entrance to the hospital when they arrived at 6:00 am, missing the ranks of international media who have camped outside the hospital for three weeks.

Many were hoping for a repeat of the scene in 1982 when Charles and his first wife Diana brought out the baby's father, Williams, to show him off to the world.
“I’m so excited. Like in a washing machine. Never been so high!” said John Loughrey,a royal fanatic, who has slept outside the hospital for seven nights, wrapped in a British flag.

2. Recapture your account.

If your access is blocked, follow the directions on the email site help center. Once you again become the master of your email kingdom, invent a very sophisticated password, change your security questions and get creative in your answers because the hacker may well have nailed those questions correctly in the first place.

3. Report the incident to the email site.

Your email provider has seen this type of thing before and may be able to provide you with further details about the nature and source of the attack, as well as any tools they may have available to protect your information and get you back up and running. (You may also have access to identity protection services through your insurance company, bank, credit union or employer).

4. Speak to your peeps.

Notify everyone on your contact list that you have been compromised and they should look at any communication from you with suspicion for the time being. Further, they should double down on their computer protection. If they have already been victimized, offer your condolences and support, and make sure they are following these steps, too.

5. Scan your computer with an updated anti-virus program.

Don’t think that sophisticated email hackers are in it for the fun of grabbing your email and then doing a spam conga line. Often their goal is much more insidious. Why crawl into a life unless you can truly monetize it? Therefore, beware of the Trojan.

In this case however, they may have inserted it into your system so that it can conduct recon and report back to them with all of your passwords or a treasure trove of your information. Get that program running and eliminate any and all viruses, spyware or malware that it discovers. If you don’t have a new and sophisticated security software program, now is not the time to cheap out. It’s a reasonable investment that will ultimately show a serious return by keeping your information yours.

6. Don’t fail to review your personal email settings.

Make sure the cyber ninjas haven’t created forwarding email addresses and if you find any delete them immediately. Also, look carefully at the signature block and make sure it’s really yours. The hackers may have included some malicious links there too.

7. Change passwords or security questions for other sites.

In the event you shared your email passwords or security questions with any other site, change them, too. Too often consumers opt for convenience (or simplicity) over security and use a single password for multiple websites — including financial services, social media, retail or secondary email sites. Not a good idea. In fact it’s a very bad idea. Change all of them and use different passwords for each.

8. Check your email folders.

Folks have a tendency to send financial or personally identifiable information to others via email and then archive the offending email in a file in their system. If so, immediately go to whatever account is identified and change the user ID and password.

9. Monitor!

Assuming that the hacker in question was able to find either your valuable pieces of personally identifiable information, it will become important for you to monitor your credit and various financial accounts for suspicious activity.


Remember, your email is an important component of your identity portfolio. You must manage it like an investment. Since, prevention is usually better than cure, also do good to make sure that all measures are put in place to guide against your e-mail being hacked.
