claremont: In my opinion, I think there are good and bad people in all cultures regardless of race. I think we should cultivate the habit of looking beyond the race, and actually getting to know who the person beneath the skin is. I agree that there are cultural challenges in dating outside the comfort zone we were all born and raised in, but life would be boring to us all if we do not try to understand the culture of people different from us. In my own experience, I have dated ladies from a wide array of cultures, and my current girlfriend is Kenyan. However, my experience with Naija women has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth. If I start writing stories of what the Naija ladies I know did to their husbands who worked his socks off to bring them to the UK, the stories will fill a book. Chai!!! Why a lady will just change it for the husband after the marital vows all because she is now "woke" to overseas life is bad fa. |

DisGuy: Nothing wrong with actually dating anyone as long as its genuine and you are not taking advantage of the other person. When I see a 'freshie' uncle and an Oyinbo woman, the first thing that comes to my mind unfortunately is - Papers/benefits
There are so many Naijas/Africans all over the country i don't understand the whole traveling to village to get a wife thing, but seems some men like someone to be indebted to them Lols. But this is not the USA where I presume it's relatively hard to get ur Citizenship. Most of the "fresher" uncles came on a good visa that in no distant time, they getting their ilr and citizenship noni. Plus, they getting paid well. So issue of papers/benefits is really not factored here. |

Aphrodite007: British Nigerian/Nigerian British girls are something else! I keep hearing complaints about them. I had a Nigerian friend that just kept dodging all the British born Nigerian girls cos he said he didn't have energy for their drama. As much as English girls are quite materialistic and lazy (my hubby told me this one), I don't think the British born ones are any better. Na hear say o, nobody should come and beat me!
As for why a lot of men prefer to marry Nigerian born women, I think its pretty obvious. Other than the fact that there will not be culture differences (which can be extremely stressful to overcome, trust me), a Nigerian born will be humble and grateful to the husband for the move abroad. At least for one year, she will pamper and cater to the man. Also, if she is not aware that the UK Laws favour women, she will cope will a cheating/abusive man. Finally, Nigerian born women have seen a lot of suffering, they will happily work to support the family rather than leave the man to work alone, or happily stay back home and watch the kids.
I am not generalising ooo! This is the gospel!!! Thumbs up |

Geetrix: That mumu button go scarce oh....Personally, i think British people are very proud and i don't mean that in a bad way. It's just the way eg....SW looks down on hausas as illiterates! In my experience, i think, Brits generally have a superiority complex, so will probably need to be a big time person to attract or impress a Brit...Very handsome, great personality or be a footballer rich! or celebrity...Otherwise, maybe you are the one who will be the mumu and profess your undying love, probably because of visa and end up being the 'Houseboy". I think, other Europeans, except for Germans and maybe French, are less proud and more likely to date you or fall in love easily, Indian or Pakistani....those ones will not even look at you, as their family will easily frown on you as a black person. The family usually arrange marriages, no matter how much they might like or love you.
But, what do i know, i've only been here 1 year! I had a 1 night with a 37yr old Romanian divorcee and i think she felt she was doing me a favour. I wasn't into it, she was just disturbing me and i was trying to be polite! And the blacks i try to hook up with on Tinder and other dating websites are extremely proud, even more so than whites.
So, if you no fine, no money, and not a celeb. You might save yourself headache and get a wife in Nigeria who will love you like Superman for bringing her out of Africa Lmao! Your finishing line is badass!! The respect no go dey ordinary I swear. Sha, na make person no go carry karashika for naija. The type wey to follow you come up then leave your behind for an oyibo man. |

NosoChic: Hmmm. ...I usually don't like generalisations as there are good and bad people in every race. But to a large extent, our cultural differences can be a divide. The one of your mother becomes my mother and she may have to call her Mama/Mum. As simple as it may sound, not all will understand it. So if you jam person wey go dey call your mama by her first name. No vex!
Marriage to them may also not be stick in there till it works- once she's not happy she'll not fake it oh.There is no role of a woman oh, so you should dust up your domestic skills!
There have a good attraction to us as we sabi work. We are also very ambitious and it may just be fulfilling a fantasy to some.
That said, if you meet someone whose head is very calm, hardworking, well exposed, won't mind coming to Africa to stay...and you genuinely are in love with the person please go ahead.
It's a bit better for we African women in biracial marriages although hubby complains I can be LOUD around my 9ja peps. Thanks for this. So, it's safe to say it's all about their character and upbringing then. |

Openedheavens: I was applying for a tourism visa with my fiancee and while filling out the electronic form to book appointment, my fiance mistakenly answered "yes" to the question "Are you 80yrs and above?".
Because of this single mistake, we couldn't schedule the appointment. On calling their contact centre, I was told the cause of the error (which is having answered wrongly to the question are you 80 years and above?).
I requested for a reversal in order to carry out the correct steps but I was shockingly informed that we have to make another payment. Himself and myself. Meaning 128,000 naira (64,000 naira each) is gone.
It's so annoying and devastating owing to the fact that nothing can be done to this criminal act . this is scam! This is daylight robbery. The way these people see us is what I don't understand. You should go and make the payment oga. If you like, go and make mistake again. They will just bar you for like 2years. |

The Journey so far.
After I passed my ieltsUKVI, I contacted the agency someone suggested here. Well they were keen to run with me thus prompting me to "do fast" and write the CBT. Within that period, a lot happened. I got mobbed in Lagos twice. Phones, laptops gone. Well, let's just say I got feed up and relented in my pursuit. Broke and having lost all my study materials, I was just not feeling it again. Thanks to gratefulme40 and a handful of friends that still encouraged me. Fast forward a month, I registered and passed my CBT.
It was not magic, I was just angry I can't come and use my "last card" to write exam and fail it. I studied my eyes out and it payed off. Na God grace sha.
I got a job offer before my CBT, so it was pretty damn fast and expensive journey till my visa came out.
Make no mistake, it ain't easy but not as hard as you'd think it is. All na "mind".
That's my story. Thanks to all who helped me out here. I can't be more grateful. I really appreciate all y'all. |
