I go disagree with una small. No be everybody wey buy expensive/ recent car wan impress you or tell you say him don arrive.

1: You no sabi how much him get o. So you can’t be really sure if he can or can’t afford it.

2: Big congested cities and Outskirts of towns no be same thing. One requires you must have a car to commute and the other, not so much. Bus service kuku dey sef. Referencing the scooter.

3: (my personal favourite cheesy) Yolo!! If you can afford Tesla model S as a first time car, unku/ aunti, goan buy eet. Me I go like private jet but I no go run go collect loan on top say I wan buy one. Get it?

So to you reading this and considering car to buy, goan buy what you can afford. Emphasis is on “afford”.

If you wantu pepper dem too, abeg pepper dem joor. Who am I to tell you otherwise? cheesy

Una dey well.

Also if you get no claims for naija, try collect and see if one of the companies will accept (some don't). I have 15 years no claims combined with naija own smiley

Hello house,

I've followed this thread from the beginning and I was earnestly hoping that someday I too will be able to share my experience of living in the UK.
And finally I got the break I was hoping for, got to UK late last year on a tier 2 visa.

I'm in Salisbury  ( Wiltshire ), it's a small but lovely town, there are few blacks here from different African countries cos by their accent you shall know them cheesy and some few Nigerians.

My flight down here was amazing, had a stop over at Dubai airport then finally Heathrow the next morning plus i got a window sit.

I had just one luggage which weighed 22kg plus one hand luggage, no food stuffs cos I like travelling light. Just my clothes plus winter kit .Was really prepared for that and was disappointed when I got to London and there was no snow cheesy ( don't yab me please grin )

My employer arranged an airport pick up for me plus accommodation so it was easy getting to my accomodation and they already got me a giffgaff sim card which only gave me unlimited phone calls and sms to UK numbers plus 3g data.

I've been able to get around town, got my BRP, opened an account with HSBC, registered with a gp and all

Found an asian store, the only one in Salisbury. They have basically everything from indomie to garri to yam, palm oil, egusi, semo even wooden mortar.

I generally do my shopping at tesco and pounland for groceries and charity shops for shoes and clothes in the mean time. I hope to upgrade when my account gets bigger wink. Plus I found the brioche bread at tesco kiss, I finally felt like I was eating bread after a long time, not all those tasteless oyinbo bread.

I've really learnt a lot from this thread and I'm happy to be here finally.
Just want to say thank you to all the people that added useful information to this thread and kept it going

P.S
I made my own UK survival guide from all the information I got here.
Welcome to abroad. grin

Your landlord by law was supposed to have given your the information about the deposit scheme used not later than 3months into the tenancy, if he has failed to do this, you can legally claim back about 2 or 3 months (not sure) rent back from him.
She done that already. Na she go gimme back abi which level?

How do I get my house deposit back?

There's no End of tenancy command on the deposit protection website. Abi na to open dispute or just ask the landlord to return it?

dupyshoo:
1. With mortgage, you can fix your interest rates for a fixed no of years usually 2, 5 and 10 years. The more the years, the higher the interest rate. Fixing your rate means regardless of the change in bank of England rate, your interest rate will remain the same. Once the no of years you fixed the rate for ends, your mortgage will revert to a variable rate. At this point, you can decide to remortgage and fix your rate for another fixed years.

2. You can make overpayments but if you are on a fixed deal, you are most times allowed to pay up to 10% of your total mortgage amount per year. Any extra amount is not worth it as your lender will charge you 10% of the extra overpayments you made. If you are however on a variable rate, you can make as much overpayments as you want.

3.When you want to sell your house. The bank will collect the remaining debt first. The remainder will then be yours For instance, if you are still owing 20k and the buyer is paying you 60k, bank will collect 20k, the remaining 40k will be yours.
Thanks much dupyshoo smiley

(clears throat)

abeg I wan ask. If person buy house 60k on mortgage of 30yrs.

Him deposit na 6k normally. Then, monthly payment of lest just say 200.

1). The 200 monthly go begin rise after sometime? Just like phone deals that increase based on apr something something.

2) if you decide say, you wan dey make additional bogu deposits like 500 untop the 200 (whenever excess money show) just to pay off in time, Dem go gree?

3) when you decide to sell the house (maybe 10yrs after. Remaining 20yrs) shey na the money wey you don pay so far plus profit Dem go gee you back, then collect the remainder?

I don gugu the thing sotey I come dey confuse. Make una chuk mouth for the matter abeg.

PS: Na question I ask, I no tok say I wan buy house o. grin
