Politics / IPOB Suspends Sit-at-home Order by Insidenaija: 12:35pm On Aug 14, 2021
The Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) has reportedly suspend the weekly sit-at-home exercise it commenced this week in the southeast, Newspremises reports.

Spokesperson of the group, Emma Powerful, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

IPOB had declared a weekly sit-at-home exercise to protest the arrest and detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government.

The exercise, which commenced on Monday, August 9, was trailed by loss of lives, property as well as huge financial and economic implications for the region.

The region was projected to have lost millions to the exercise as Monday is usually one of the busiest days for businesses in the region.

The group said the suspension of the exercise is due to a direct order from Kanu to that effect.

It explained: “The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) understands the concern being expressed by the global IPOB family on the suspension of the weekly Sit-At-Home earlier announced by the IPOB Head of Directorate of State of the Indigenous people of Biafra.

“We know that our people embraced this civil action wholeheartedly and without any compulsion.

“The leadership sincerely appreciate the innate desire of Biafrans to sacrifice their time, resources and energy in ensuring that our leader Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released unconditionally from the illegal custody of the Nigerian State who criminally renditioned him from Kenya to Nigeria.

“The suspension of the sit-at-home by the IPOB Head of Directorate was as a result of a direct order from the leader of this great movement Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that one of the major fundamental guiding principles of IPOB is Command and Control.

“This simply means that all commands from the Supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will be obeyed and implemented to the latter by the Directorate of State of the Indigenous people of Biafra.

“Bearing in mind therefore that this principle has enabled this movement to surpass even the expectations of both Biafrans and Non-Biafrans alike, the leadership wish to encourage Biafran to focus on the most pressing issue confronting this great family presently which is ensuring the safety of our leader while still in the illegal custody of the DSS and to secure his unconditional release from detention.”

IPOB said in accordance with the directive from its leader, the sit-at-home will be observed on the date of Kanu’s court appearances.

“The lPOB leadership urge Biafrans worldwide to take note of the next court appearance of our leader which is the 21st of October 2021.

“If however, we have any reason or directive from the IPOB highest command that requires us to reactivate the suspended weekly sit-at-home, the leadership will not hesitate to lift the suspension and continue with our civil action’.

“The leadership once more appreciate all Biafrans and our friends and sympathizers who faithfully observed the Monday, August 9 Sit-At-Home which was a huge success throughout Biafra land. May God continue to bless and uphold all those committed to our struggle”.

“We consider Biafra restoration as a sacrosanct call to duty above all else. Any other information regarding Sit-At-Home in Biafraland not emanating from IPOB through our main channels of information dissemination should be disregarded”.

A Nigerian lady, Oluwaseun Sakaba, whose husband, Lt. Col I. Sakaba, was killed by Boko Haram members in 2018, has slammed the Nigerian Army after the military shared photos of repentant sect members with placards seeking forgiveness from Nigerians, Newspremises reports.

Sakaba was one of the 44 soldiers killed by the insurgents during an attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State in November 2018.

His widow, Oluwaseun Sakaba, saw the post by the Nigerian Army with the sect members asking for forgiveness and took to her Instagram page to react. Oluwaseun asked the Nigerian Army if she should forgive the same people who made her a widow at a young age.

She wrote;

Sports / Meet Ngolo Kante's Lookalike Who Was Spotted In Daura, Katsina State(photos) by Insidenaija: 9:53am On Aug 10, 2021
Like some people will say, God has created man in pairs. Though I do not subscribe to that opinion, but truly there are people who look almost exactly like other people. They are not twins, they have never met and do not even know each other.

This is actually the case with a 24-year-old Hausa man who goes by the name Ya'u. He lives in Daura, Katsina state, a northern state in Nigeria which also happens to be the home town of Nigerian president, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. This guy looks exactly like Chelsea star Ngolo Kante.

Ya'u revealed that he was nicknamed Kante six years ago due to his striking semblance to the Champions League winner. Ya'u, surprisingly is not a football fan and never liked it when people started calling him Kante in 2015.

He later enjoyed his new nickname when he realized how famous of a footballer Ngolo Kante is. He further revealed that he was mistaken for Kante in Kano when a Keke Napep rider and his friends started calling Kante! Kante! They all ended up taking pictures with him.

When asked if he would be glad to one day meet Ngolo Kante, Ya'u dismissed the possibility because they live too far apart. He says ''I live in Daura and Kante lives in London and I have no link with him, so I have no dream of meeting him".

Ya'u has so many similarities with Kante. From his skin, to facial structure, dentition and even his smile is just the same as Kante. They could pass for twins and this could only be more confusing if Ya'u eventually gets a chance to visit London.

Kante is currently in Chelsea's pre-season training under Thomas Tuchel. There's a very high chance that he could feature for the Blues on Wednesday when they play against Europa League winners, Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup.

He had an excellent campaign last season. He was very instrumental in Chelsea's run-up to winning the UEFA Champions League. He racked up brilliant performances and his heroics over two legs against Real Madrid, where he made elite midfielders like Kroos, Modric and Casemiro look so ordinary, would linger in our hearts.

He was tipped to go on and win the FIFA World Best Player Award. Kante dismissed those insinuations and would rather focus on winning more trophies with Chelsea. We'll have to wait till the end of the year to see how things pan out as regards the FIFA Best Player Award.

Maybe Ya'u could get even more publicity if Kante finally wins the FIFA Best Player Award. You never can tell. The Frenchman might even be eager to meet him if he gets to see this. The road to stardom is indefinite and this could just be Ya'u's turn.

Politics / Ortom: I Have No Plan To Dump PDP For APC by Insidenaija: 8:56am On Aug 10, 2021
Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has vowed not to return to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which brought him to power in the 2015 general election, Newspremises reports.

The governor made the clarification on Monday night during a news programme on Channels TV.

Recall that there have been speculations that Ortom and other governors elected under the platform of the PDP were making moves to join the ruling party.

But Ortom, while answering questions bothering on alleged plan to dump the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said APC has completely destroyed the country.

He said he has no reason to leave the PDP, insisting that he is comfortable with the party.

According to him, “How can I go back to APC that has completely destroyed Nigeria? I’m very comfortable with the PDP”.

Religion / Chris Okotie: The Truth About T.B Joshua. He Was A Magician & A Sorcerer (Video) by Insidenaija: 7:49am On Aug 10, 2021
Pastor of the Household of God Church International Ministries, Rev Chris Okotie, has described the late founder of The Synagogue, Church of all Nations, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, better known as TB Joshua, as a magician who carried Bible around, Newspremises reports.

[url=
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kClX8izq_Zs][/url]

Recall that Okotie, who never hid his dislike for Joshua even while he was alive, had described T.B Joshua as the “Wizard at Endor”, shortly after his death in June.

In a video shared on social media on Sunday, August 8 titled ''The Truth about T.B Joshua'', Okotie described Joshua as a man who projected himself as another ''Jesus''. He said Joshua was a fake prophet who went about carrying a bible with him.

“Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus. What is the truth about TB Joshua? Who was he? Was he a product of Christianity? Or a practitioner of shamanism? Was he a servant of the Lord Jesus? Or some itinerant religious quack? Was he a true prophet, who was misunderstood? Or a hypocrite masquerading under the habiliment of the Faith?” Okotie began

Anchoring his message on the Bible book of John 8 v 32: “…Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”, Okotie began to examine the life of T.B Joshua whose name is Joshua.

“Joshua took that name because he believes he is another Jesus. He believes that God sent him to our world to bring reconciliation between God and mankind, exactly the same way the Lord Jesus was sent, and that is why he took that name Joshua,”he said.

Speaking on the identity of T.B Joshua, Okotie said the clergyman fulfilled the pattern of Bar-Jesus, a false prophet, and a sorcerer according to the Book of Acts, Chapter 13 v 6:

“He is a magician, a sorcerer and calls himself a prophet. Notice he doesn’t call himself an apostle, he doesn’t call himself a teacher, he doesn’t call himself a pastor because if he calls himself by any other name outside of prophet, he does not fulfill the pattern. So, he must stick with that appellation. He must call himself prophet so, so and so… So, he is a magician who claims to be a prophet but he is a false prophet…,” Okotie said

Okotie went further to say that T.B Joshua went about doing philanthropic work just so he can be like Jesus.

T.B Joshua was buried on July 10.

Sports / Romelu Lukaku Set To Surpass Neymar As The Most Expensive Footballer Of All-time by Insidenaija: 9:14pm On Aug 08, 2021
Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to become the most expensive footballer EVER, surpassing PSG superstar Neymar, Newspremises understands.

Lukaku to Chelsea is now on the very verge of completion, with the deal set to rank as one of the biggest moves of the summer transfer window.

Their report notes that Chelsea will be paying £97.5M to prise Lukaku away from Inter Milan, a club-record fee for the reigning European champions.

That will take Lukaku’s accumulated transfer fees throughout his career to £293.5M, surpassing Neymar’s record of £246.6M.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that Lukaku’s total tally doesn’t go much higher than that, because they’ll want him to be the man leading their line for years to come.

Sports / Ten Major Premier League Transfers That Could Still Happen This Summer by Insidenaija: 8:30pm On Aug 08, 2021
The summer transfer window of 2021 has already been one of the most memorable of all-time, but you can’t help but feel there’s still SO much more to come.

From Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho heading to Manchester, to Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku making differing career decisions when approached by Chelsea, some of the game’s biggest names have been on the move.

With Lionel Messi heading to Paris Saint-Germain, 2021 is already going to go down as the year arguably the most high-profile transfer EVER took place, but there’s still three weeks left for clubs to conduct business.

Newspremises have picked out ten players who could still be on the move this summer, as well as providing insight into the clubs that have been linked and the possibility of the moves materialising.

Jules Kounde

Current club: Sevilla [Contract until 2024]
Clubs linked: Chelsea, Tottenham
Market value: €60M [£50M]

Transfer probability: 9/10
While Tottenham were previously considered to be the frontrunners to sign Kounde, the arrival of Cristian Romero from Atalanta leaves it looking highly unlikely that another centre-back will be signed.

Ever since Fabrizio Romano dropped the bomb that Chelsea were in talks to sign the Frenchman, speculation has been relentless. Newspremises predict that Chelsea will get this deal over the line before the window shuts, though it’s more likely to be for straight cash, with all previous part-exchange proposals falling flat.

Eduardo Camavinga

Current club: Rennes [Contract until 2022]
Clubs linked: Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid
Market value: €40M [£34M]

Transfer probability: 6/10
With Eduardo Camavinga’s contract with Rennes due to expire next summer, he was always likely to be one of the hot topics of this transfer window. However, with less than a month til the deadline, he doesn’t appear to be imminently heading anywhere.

Newspremises understands that at this point Camavinga to Man United is looking unlikely, with PSG being pre-occupied signing Messi and Real Madrid, Camavinga’s favoured next move, dragging their heels.

You still have to think it likely that Rennes AND Camavinga would be keen to get a move sorted before the end of August, but it remains to be seen whether there’s sufficient interest to get it done.

Saul Niguez

Current club: Atletico Madrid [Contract until 2026]
Clubs linked: Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool
Market value: €45M [£38M]

Transfer probability: 4/10
Earlier the transfer window, it looked as though Saul Niguez to Barcelona was ON, with Antoine Griezmann heading back to Atletico Madrid in exchange. However, the deal never came to fruition, despite talks between the parties involved.

The Spaniard has since been linked with a move to the Premier League, with CaughtOffside’s understanding that Saul to Liverpool is being worked on by his representatives. The Reds are not thought to be too hot on the deal, though, with the player’s representatives understood to be pushing for it.

We also believe that Manchester United are not in the picture to sign the 26-year-old, despite continual links, and with Barcelona completely cash-strapped, you’d put your money on Saul staying with Atletico Madrid at this point.

Bernardo Silva

Current club: Manchester City [Contract until 2025]
Clubs linked: Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal
Market value: €40M [£34M]

Transfer probability: 8/10
Pep Guardiola has recently confirmed that Bernardo Silva wants to leave Manchester City, so it would be a surprise to see the Portugal international still with the squad beyond the transfer deadline.

There have been suggestions that Silva himself would like to join Barcelona, but Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are the side who have showed the most intent in terms of striking a deal to sign the 26-year-old.

Arsenal are another club who have been mentioned in the running in recent days, but the suggestion is that Bernardo no longer wants to stay in England, so that’d make little sense.

While there doesn’t appear to be an obvious route out of the Etihad for the attacking midfielder at this point in time, you imagine that his representatives, and Man City alike, will be working on finding one.

Tammy Abraham

Current club: Chelsea [Contract until 2023]
Clubs linked: Arsenal, Atalanta, West Ham, Aston Villa
Market value: €41.3M [£35M]

Transfer probability: 9/10
Tammy Abraham has been Chelsea’s top goalscorer in all competitions for two years on the bounce, but the striker is quite obviously not to the taste of Thomas Tuchel and is expected to depart this summer.

In recent days, Atalanta have been strongly linked with making a move for Abraham, with Duvan Zapata thought to be a target for Inter Milan as they look to replace Chelsea-bound

Romelu Lukaku.

Arsenal, West Ham and Aston Villa have also shown interest, with Abraham’s preference thought to be to remain in the Premier League in order to improve his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup.

With Lukaku to Chelsea set to be confirmed, we’d expect there to be movement on the Abraham front in due course.

Paul Pogba

Current club: Manchester United [Contract until 2022]
Clubs linked: Paris Saint-Germain
Market value: €50M [£42M]

Transfer probability: 3/10
A fortnight ago, when Paul Pogba to PSG was first mentioned as a possibility by the press, you wouldn’t have bet against the move happening, especially with the midfielder in the final year of his contract.

However, with PSG set to sign Lionel Messi on quite ridiculous wages, you imagine that there’s not going to be much money left over to bankroll a move to sign Pogba.

While it certainly shouldn’t be ruled out that Pogba could run down his contract until the expiration date and look to secure a move to Paris next summer, it’s now very unlikely that it’ll happen this month.

Lautaro Martinez

Current club: Inter Milan [Contract until 2023]
Clubs linked: Arsenal, Tottenham
Market Value: €60M [£50M]

Transfer probability: 7/10
Lautaro Martinez to Arsenal has been the deal considered most likely to take place between now and the end of the transfer window, but Tottenham appear keen to blow their rivals out of the water.

It was reported on Sunday that Tottenham agreed a fee with Inter Milan, heavily suggesting that Fabio Paratici was looking to bring Lautaro to Spurs in order to soften the blow of Harry Kane’s departure.

In what will no doubt be cause for concern for both clubs, Newspremises’s understanding is that Lautaro actually wants to stay at Inter. Though, with fees reportedly being agreed and two Premier League heavyweights showing interest, there’s every chance he could still move this window.

Dusan Vlahovic

Current club: Fiorentina [Contract until 2023]
Clubs linked: Liverpool, Tottenham, Inter Milan
Market Value: €60M [£50M]

Transfer probability: 6/10
Dusan Vlahovic is one of the brightest up and coming players in Serie A, having netted 21 league goals last term in a Fiorentina side which plodded along to a mid-table finish. Liverpool, Tottenham and Inter Milan have ALL been linked with the forward.

Liverpool are certainly in need of a new ‘number 9’ but there are major question marks over the affordability of the deal from their perspective. Tottenham could become real challengers for his signature if Harry Kane departs.

Inter Milan are set to have a major influx of cash with the departure of Romelu Lukaku. If Lautaro Martinez was to also depart, they’d have more than enough money to cover their financial issues. A move for Vlahovic can’t be ruled out.
James Maddison
[James Maddison looks out for Leicester]

Current club: Leicester City [Contract until 2024]
Clubs linked: Arsenal, Chelsea
Market Value: €70M [£60M]

Transfer probability: 5/10
James Maddison is a key figure for Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers, but has been continually linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in recent months.

While Chelsea have been loosely mentioned in the running for the Englishman, Maddison to Arsenal has always been considered the most likely outcome, were he to move this summer.

Newspremises understand that Maddison is in no rush to leave Leicester, but links to Arsenal do excite him. There’s also a belief that any move for the Foxes star hinges on whether the Gunners are able to re-sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid.

The likelihood of Maddison moving will likely become clearer in the coming days, but for now, we deem it relatively unlikely.

Harry Kane

[Harry Kane frustrated for Tottenham]

Current club: Tottenham [Contract until 2024]
Clubs linked: Manchester City
Market Value: €150M [£130M]

Transfer probability: 7/10
Harry Kane’s desire to leave Tottenham was expected to dominate the back pages throughout the summer, but with his involvement in Euro 2020 and subsequent holiday, things haven’t really progressed.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City are interested in signing Kane, but recognises that the deal will not be able to happen if Tottenham are not willing to negotiate over their captain.

Still, there’s plenty more time in the transfer window for something to happen, and with Kane now back at training and presumably holding talks with Daniel Levy at some point in the next week or so, this situation could be set to explode into life.

Kane to Man City has lied dormant for long enough, we don’t expect that to be the case for much longer…

Premier League clubs are already understood to have spent in excess of €850M [£720M] this summer to date. At the time of writing, we expect that number to soar past the £1BN mark before the window closes…

The Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde has called on clerics to join politics, if they want Nigeria to progress, Newspremises reports.

Making made this call during a thanksgiving service of the Christ Revival Miracle Church, Molete, Ibadan, shepherded by Reverend P.F Owa, On Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Makinde, while addressing the congregation noted that it is when men of God participate in politics that the desired changes can occur in the country.

He maintained that only the participation of men and women of faith can give Nigeria a perfect and complete nation.

Makinde, while speaking further, charged professionals to participate in politics.

He added that this will enhance good governance and promote sanity in the political system.

The governor, while speaking on the 2023 election, said that he has not made up his mind whether to seek reelection or not.

He added that he did not know if he would seek reelection or not.

“Well, I came out in 2019 to tell the people that I wanted to become the governor but I prayed to God that only His will should be done.

“And now, I don’t even know if it is the will of God for me to even seek or push out for a second tenure.

“The only prayer I want you to be praying is that God’s will alone should be done in my life.

Politics / Igboho: Yorubas Ask Benin Republic Govt To Protect Agitator, Reveal His Mission by Insidenaija: 4:19pm On Aug 08, 2021
The government of Benin Republic, has been urged to respect the rights of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo better known as Sunday Igboho in the course of his trial, Newspremises reports.

National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, who is also the spokesman Oke Ogun Development Consultative Forum, ODCF, made the call while calling for Igboho’s protection.

Ajayi said the issues surrounding Igboho are political in nature because his mission was meant to stop the iniquities being meted out to Yoruba people.

The group stated this in a statement jointly signed by its President, Dr. Olusegun Ajuwon, and Ajayi.

According to the statement: “We are proud of his desire to see that farmers are no longer prevented from cultivating their farms and our women are no longer raped in the course of pursuing their businesses.

“It would be recalled that Mr. Adeyemo was the arrowhead of a movement peacefully tackling Fulani herders who were terrorizing farmers and rural dwellers particularly in Ibarapa area of Oyo State. His group later began to agitate for the creation of a Yoruba nation. In the wee hours of July 1, 2021, his house in Soka area of Ibadan was invaded by armed officials of the DSS resulting in the death of two people and arrest of 12 others who are now on trial in Abuja.

“Feeling that his life was unsafe, Adeyemo decided to sneak out of the country. He was arrested in Cotonou while trying to board a flight to Germany. He has been on trial since then. The reports have it that Nigeria is making efforts to have him extradited so that he could be tried here.

ODCF said that while it concedes that the government has a right, indeed the power, to try anybody thought to have contravened the law. “But in doing so, government should factor in the relevant sections of the law that says that a suspect is innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. Not only that, the governments of Nigeria and Benin should remember the relevant sections of the African Charter and other international conventions to which they are signatories.

“Some of the documents being referred to include Article 4 of the ECOWAS Convention on Extradition which prescribes that a suspect can not be extradited if the offence for which he is wanted is ‘political or for the purpose of prosecuting him on account of his ethnic group or political opinion’. Various provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Nigeria is also a party, have similar provisions.

“Part of what Sunday Igboho advocated was echoed penultimate week by Emir of Muri in Taraba state. The monarch had given Fulani herders a 30 day ultimatum to vacate his area because of the harm they were doing to farmers and women in his domain. Reports indicated that the herders last week Monday, August 2, pledged their readiness to comply with his directive.

“There is no difference between what Sunday Igboho was advocating and what Emir of Muri has done. Therefore, we believe that what is good for the goose should be good for the gander.

“It is within these laws that we seek protection for ourselves and our people including Sunday Adeyemo Igboho”.

Sports / Romelu Lukaku Reportedly Agrees To "Five-Year Deal With Chelsea" by Insidenaija: 3:22pm On Aug 06, 2021
Romelu Lukaku has reportedly agreed terms on a five-year contract with Chelsea, worth around £212,000-a-week, Newspremises reports.

The Belgian goal machine is now edging closer to sealing his return back to west London following his departure in 2014.

Despite failing with a bid of £85.3m plus Marcos Alonso, multiple reports suggest that Chelsea will eventually get a deal over the line with Lukaku open to another spell at Stamford Bridge.

According to football. london, an agreement is already in place with regards to a five-year contract for the Belgium international. All that is left to resolve in the final fee between the two clubs with negotiations now nearing a conclusion.

Inter are now expected to sell up after Lukaku himself made it known that he wanted to join Chelsea.

Lukaku has scored 64 goals in all competitions during his first two years at San Siro.

Tuchel refused to comment on Chelsea's pursuit of Lukaku on Wednesday night following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

“I will not talk about players who don’t play in my squad,” the former PSG boss said. “He is a fantastic player but a player from Inter and with all due respect I will not talk about him. Not everybody but I can imagine a lot of players want to come and join [Chelsea] but we don’t comment on that.”

Crime / Two Bankers Convicted For Stealing From A Dead Customer's Account(photo) by Insidenaija: 10:13pm On Aug 05, 2021
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Uyo Zonal Command, has secured the conviction of two bank officials, Daniel Akpan Eno and Mbuk Idongesit before Justice Edem Ita Kufre of the Cross River State High Court, Calabar for conspiracy and theft of funds in the account of a deceased customer of a commercial bank.

The duo were convicted on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 after pleading guilty to separate one-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and fraudulent transfers. A third defendant, and alleged accomplice, Victor John Okon pleaded “not guilty”. His trial was adjourned till August 10, 2021 for consideration of bail application.

Justice Kufre convicted and sentenced Akpan to three months imprisonment with an option of fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000.00), while Idongesit was sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000.00) fine.

The convicts’ journey to prison started on May 23, 2021 when Idongesit (alongside one Utibe George- currently at large) approached Akpan with the burial programme of one Godfried Godwin Osso, a deceased customer of the Bank, whom George(at large) claimed was his step - father, with a plot to steal from the deceased’s account.

On May 24, 2021, George concluded the deal with the convicts and also contacted a Teller (Victor Okon – the 3rd defendant) from another branch of the bank to ease access to the funds in the account of the deceased. A 50% sharing formula was agreed upon by the conspirators and the plot was executed.

The commission waded in following a petition from the bank, alleging suspicious dissipation of monies in the deceased account into the accounts of family members and acquaintances, from where they were diverted to personal use.

Investigation revealed that on June 19, 2019 Victor Okon connived with George Ifiok Utibe (at large) and received the sum of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1, 500, 000.00). Daniel Akpan also benefited the sum of One Million and Forty Thousand Naira (N1, 040, 000.00) while Godwin Mbuk benefited the sum of One Hundred and Thirty Thousand Naira (N130, 000.00) only

The judge ordered the convicts remanded at the Nigerian Correctional facility until they pay their fines, while Victor was remanded at the Commission’s detention facility pending the hearing of his bail application.

Politics / Lagos Assembly Stops Houses For Ex-governors, Slashes Pension By 50 Percent by Insidenaija: 8:54pm On Aug 05, 2021
Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday approved the reduction of pension to former governors, deputies and certain officials by 50 percent, Newspremises reports.

The Committee on Establishment also expunged the provision of houses in Abuja and Lagos for former governors.

Also to be reduced are the number of vehicles to be made available to them and their second in command.

Former Governors Bola Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode and their deputies benefited from the retiring law.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa suggested that former governors should get two vehicles (a car and a van) instead of three as recommended by the committee.

Obasa further proposed that the amended bill provides cars to be changed every four years instead of the three years recommended.

During plenary, some lawmakers suggested that the ex-officials’ pension be slashed by 75 percent; others opposed.

The Speaker, however, said a 50 percent cut was fair since houses and other benefits have been removed.

“I have seen former Speakers who we had to intervene in their lives because of the situations they found themselves outside office. We have also seen former governors in bad situations.”

He reminded that the House must meet the wishes of the people one of which is a downward review in the cost of governance.

“We must realise that we would always go back to the people for support. So when we hearken to their agitations and reduce what existed, it shows that we listen,” Obasa added.

Sports / Barcelona Confirm Messi’s Exit As Contract Talks Collapse by Insidenaija: 8:36pm On Aug 05, 2021
Barcelona football club has announced that Lionel Messi will leave the club this Summer, after the parties failed to come to an agreement, Newspremises reports.

Messi has been out of contract since the end of June, but the general consensus was that a resolution would be found and his future would still lie at the Nou Camp.

Tonight, in a shocking turn of events, Barcelona have confirmed that Messi will not be playing for the club again.

“Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).”

“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.”

“FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”

Also, football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Messi will not continue with the club next season.

Messi is arguably the greatest player of all-time, a legacy which has been built during a glittering career with Barcelona.

It’s a great shame that his future with the Catalan giants has been determined by financial restraints, rather than it being the right time for him to walk away.

Naturally, speculation will now intensify as to where Messi could be playing his football going forward.

For now, though, let’s let this sink in: Lionel Messi and Barcelona are no more.
