This thread is a good one but wait for tribalists now to derail it. Just watch and see. They’re coming.

Good one keh? Are you staying in Lagos to know the impact? Which alternative roads will they refer one to? Eko bridge that is still under construction? Or Carter bridge which they are still constructing the bridge at Oyingbo?

If you work in VI, how you go take reach office? The post is senseless. If they have the interest of Lagosians at heart, they should fix Eko bridge first.

You are part of the problem. Na this mentality de make some idiots create bad name for Nigerians.

Give her a reasonable date to refund you and tell her you will have to report her to the police if she no refund you on the stated date.

On that date, go and report her with immediate alacrity. What if it's a white man she scams next? Na so they go say all Nigerians are fraudster because of some few elements.

What makes you think she's doing well for herself, Because she says so? Or you think so? ...She may just be hyping herself unnecessarily. Abroad is not a land flowing with milk and honey.

Let's be real with our analysis. The minimum wage in Canada is about 15 dollars per hour (120 dollars per 8hrs) which is about 55,000 naira. What this means is that even if she is a cleaner or dish washer, she will make 55k naira equivalence in a day.

The OP said she went there for Masters. The worst scenario is that she didn't graduate. Meaning that she will still earn something reasonable as a BSC holder.

Hello

This thread is to document all my results form 100 to 500lvl so I can track my progress and see if I'm doing better or worse.

Semester GPA: 4.40
Current CGPA: 4.40

I'm currently in my 100 level 2nd semester and 2nd semester results aren't out yet but I think my GPA is still alright( I technically don't have a CGPA yet). The result above is only for my first semester.

I think it's ok for my first semester but I'm hoping to break into a 4.5 real soon.

My course of study is Law.

These grades can't give you a GP of 4.40. recalculate am abeg.

This past week we learnt that:

1. Anambra (the next smallest state after Lagos) is now the erosion capital of the world - Prof. Soludo 2023

2. Lagos the smallest state in Nigeria is reclaiming land by filling the Atlantic...Prof. Soludo 2023

3. Yorubas are Political Rascals that should be dealt with - CHIEF EMMANUEL IWUANYANWU 2023.

4. One Igbo man is equivalent to 500 Hausa men - Rev. Father Ebube Muonso 2023!

I really don't know why Prof. Soludo was making a comparison between Anambra and Lagos in that speech!
And i wish him well in his tenure.

Yes I do talk to her on phone but only when it’s very important because I avoid anything that’ll make her come close, so I avoid unnecessary familiarity that’ll bring her close to me. I think the fear( abi unimaginable irritation) was my very first encounter with one in my childhood, we were in the same class(no long stories), infact I had to be taken away from that class and eventually from that school, it was that bad. I don’t know why I didn’t outgrow it.

It's very bad then. Try and understand what happended to you when small. You should be able to itemize the issue to something particular. When you do, then you can solve the issue small small

Right from childhood I have this very rare and strong phobia for albinos, infact I practically run on sighting them no matter who was with me. Well, I thought I’ve overcome this habit overtime until recently I found out it’s still with me. I happen to be in a place recently that involves me mingling with an albino and each time she tries to come close I unconsciously drift away immediately and would have to pinch and hold myself so as not to get noticed. I unconsciously avoid anything that’ll join us together and would made sure we are never in line doing things together, she has tried severally to come close to me but I just don’t know when I’ll stylishly dodge her and be forming busy. But I tried to be very nice to her at any given opportunity but unconsciously do that from a reasonable distance . Recently she had her birthday and I gifted her a very massive cake but unconsciously feigned sickness just to avoid some closeness that may happen during the birthday. Believe me i don’t have control when I do these things, I feel so bad and terrible after doing them. Last friday I woke up early and made up my mind that immediately I sight her that day, I’ll go give her a hug and peck her but on sighting her i didn’t even know when i started forming busy and all that. I went home and cried bitterly because she’s a very nice person. I think she has noticed all of these (especially how my countenance do change immediately she’s coming close) and she has started minding her space gradually. I’ve never felt this bad in a long time and I seriously do not know how to go about this. Please how do I overcome this phobia(abi fears) for albinos ? What went wrong and how do I permanently correct all of these?

Do you two talk over the phone? If yes explain to her how exactly it's doing you. Let her know that your heart wants to be close to her but your body isn't. Let her know that you are willing to work with her to fix this issue with you.

You need to ascertain what exactly the fear is about. That will guide to fix.

My name is Dimeji( not real name tho), I'm in my final lap in one of the prestigious uni in Nigeria, it happens my fiancee and I have been dating for long now, recently she discovered that she missed her period (though I'm not happy with it and at the same time I don't want ab*rtion) and couple the fact that I really love this lady and I want future with her.
I want to quickly do her introduction before the bump is visible n I have taken a bold step by taken my parents to hers for unofficial intro before the real intro which has been set for next two months.
But recently I do observe that she do post on her status about praying not to choose wrongly in term of relationship, (she has once asked me whether I don't feel we are rushing things in one of our conversation one time like that) plus the fact that whenever I called her recently the vibe is not there any longer, this is the person we are both serious with the relationship oo Infact she's the one that's pushing thing initially.

My question now is that, Is it anxiousness or marriage phobia or early pregnancy symptoms or she's just confuse or the feeling of not been ready that's worrying her? (She will be 26 next month)

You are in school. Meaning that you are likely not working. She is a student as well right? How do you intend taking care of her and the child in this hopeless economy?

Now is really not a good time to bring a child into the world if you don't have plans to take care of the child.

Women can be temporarily confused when about to make a big decision. Don't let your head lead. Use your brain to think this through

The joke here is on Nigeria. Why would one really want to be a ‘beggar’ in a foreign land if not for how terrible things are in Nigeria. In Nigeria you are just one huge ransom away from losing all your savings. You are at a higher risk of losing your life to avoidable things.

In all, one shouldn’t just travel out without planning. You can learn new skills, get relevant and needed certifications and all. You can still get those big jobs in the UK but just as the OP said, you shouldn’t be selective especially when you are new because you need those menial jobs to survive.

As for the fake accent part. One shouldn’t fake British accent (you may be shooting yourself on the foot), however, it is very important to learn how to pronounce words well and communicate better. This helps in interviews (especially for jobs that have to deal with meeting people).

Thanks for the info.

I think the suffering is relative.
Usually it is with people that just get there, especially without money and have to scratch from the bottom. Over time their status improves. The good thing over all is that their kids get to go to proper quality schools. Even over time when the kids get naturalized, the sky is the limit. They have acess to student loans to enable them study what ever course.
Rent to me is the highest cost. I think food is quite cheap compared to their earnings. Another crazy cost too seems to be transportation and taxes. One drives within London and by the time you get home and open your computer, so many bills. Just for driving oh. Congestion charge, emissions charges etc, God helps you if you beat traffic light.
I think the ultimate is if one can find a business to setup. One of two of my paddies have such. They are living the good life. Wakeup anytime, go to the office at their convenience etc. But they have paid their dues. Over 24 years in the UK.

Abeg which one be congestion charge? Wetin you do biko? Stuck in traffic?

SOME TIPS ABOUT LIVING IN UK

I’ll like to prepare your mind as a married man that when you get to UK,there’s higher chance for you to baby sit, ook, dishes, change pampers, get the kids set for school, etc. It’s better to get yourself acquainted with this ahead.

This is not to ridicule your personality, they are things you might need to do to keep the family running. And as the wife, have it in mind that you might not get to live that luxury life of “my husband is responsible for family upkeep”nah. Living in UK, you are meant to complement each other in every aspect.

Accommodation in UK isn’t a joke, if you are single, I advice you to look for single room en-suite or studio, furnished, all bills inclusive. Renting two bed apartment if it’s just you isn’t advisable. Check Spareroom,on the market, zoopla, Rightmove or Facebook market for rooms to let.

Pending the time you’ll be able to buy your desired item(s),check out Facebook market for cheap or free preloved/new items such as;furnitures, mattresses, beddings, kitchen utensils and the likes (I got my microwave on Facebook market for £10 and it’s as good as new).

However, be careful so as not to be scammed,I advice you do pay on delivery/pickup. Register with Olio aswell for free items(both new and preloved) including foodstuffs within and outside your area.

You might not be able to open standard bank until few months later, you can register with online bank like Monzo or Revolut to carry out your transactions, it’s easy & safe to use. Also, register with Lemonade if you want to change £ to #, easy to use as well with no charges apply.

Coming across different people with different cultural backgrounds, it’s advisable to ask individual what and how they would like to be addressed. Don’t make assumptions, people get offended if they are addressed wrongly.

Be time conscious, if you are to resume work by 19:00 to relief others, ensure you arrive few minutes earlier. The person you are to relief at work also has childminder or husband at home to relief for work as well.

Don’t try to force or change your accent while communicating. The more you change or force British accent the more you make communication difficult for everyone. Speak gently and clearly, believe me, they will hear you more than faking British accent. And if you can’t hear them, in a polite way ask them to speak slowly and gently so you can understand & they would be glad to do so.

Job wise, don’t be selective at first, get yourself something legit doing, all jobs here are stressful, at least you’ll be able to update your CV for future sake. I hope you get what I mean.

Let the words “PLEASE AND THANK YOU” be your favourite quotes daily, it goes a long way and they might pave way for you.

Don’t engage in gossips, they don’t keep secret here, whatever you say will be used against you later on.

If you have BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION store around you, they sell nice stuffs as low as £1, pop in there and minimise your spending.

Stay tuned for next post.
Moyisola

Thanks a lot for the detailed guide. For family with a child, is it best they travel with 3 adults? That is a wife, husband and grand Ma. What's the cost implication and will the VISA be approved for the Grandma?

Jollyjustcome:
I hope you all see what this 2023 election has turned into.... because of the ambition of one man.
We had warned Nigerians that this 86yrs old man has greed that is insatiable.
Tinubu would go to any length to hold power, just as he has held onto Lagos for 24years.

Tinubu remains the only governor since 1999 to hold onto a state for 24 years. Using criminal tricks like Bribery, cronyism, assasinations, and tribalism; he holds Lagos and continues to milk Lagos. This election was an attempt to free Lagos of Tinubu's grip; and we all see the result- ethnic war.

Today, hitherto peaceful Lagos is on fire. This is the start of yet another slide into abyss that Tinubu's ambition has caused. As we can see, Lagos State is on fire because Sanwo Olu, a Tinubu stooge, does not want to lose. Sanwo Olu forced ethnic division to stand a chance at reelection, and to hold on to Tinubu's empire.

Buhari must be careful at this point. And make sure power goes to the rightful winner- Peter Obi. Else there would be no Nigeria if Tinubu is sworn in.

Nigeria must be very careful.

Wrong write up. It's Atiku's ambition that has destroyed Nigeria. If only he allowed the south produce their flag bearer. This election would have been history.
