Someone on this forum and on another thread asked a very reasonable question, he asked if saraki is Nigeria's problem. I am no fan of Saraki but the question is is he really Nigeria's problem that all efforts are made to remove him from office. Governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on Nigerians to reject what he describes as “prison-yard democracy, typified by the ignoble meddlesomeness, rascality and high-handedness of some security agencies against democratic institutions” in Nigeria in recent times.

According to the governor, “Nigerians must, in strong terms, say no to prison-yard democracy, where the rights of the citizenry are shackled to the caprices of a few, as if we now run a nation of helpless inmates.

“If the people of Nigeria are so unfortunate to endure the growling nightmare occasioned by deprivation of most things that a democracy should ordinarily provide. If they are now accustomed to the pangs of hunger, unemployment, shabby infrastructure, poor healthcare and general hopelessness, they should, in the interest of democracy and the youths, stand against anything that has the potential of robbing them of their inalienable rights to live and make choices as free citizens.”

Expressing his dismay In a statement released in Abuja, on Tuesday July 31, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, condemned the recent happenings in Benue state and Abuja, where security agencies reportedly meddled in the affairs of both the Benue state and national legislatures, by trying to prevent some lawmakers from accessing their legislative chambers and also impeding the movement of the Senate President and his Deputy last week.

The governor said further: “These are unfortunate incidents, an aberration, a reprehensible attack on the fundamental human rights and privileges of fellow Nigerians and a direct attack on our fledgling democracy. We should condemn this crass and impudent exhibition of uncivilized conduct, so that we can keep peace and maintain a civilized society.

“Democracy is about freedom, of choice and association. It is about the people and the supremacy of the will of the people. Democracy, loses its essential value when the overall interest of the people takes a back seat in any supposedly democratic setting”, the governor said.
He adds that legitimate political choices and movements, including cross-carpeting, are part of a democratic enterprise, saying: “Any attempt to bully people out of their legitimate, democratic choices is a war against democracy, the rights of the citizenry, that power this unique people-oriented system of governance.”

Tambuwal said: “I also call on our leaders at all levels, to guard their utterances, in order not to drive our nation further down the path of divisiveness and ethnic/religious mistrust. Let us water our democracy, using the fountains of equity, fairness and justice for all.”

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of using Adams Oshiomhole to destroy the All Progressives Congress, APC, with “his own hand.”

Omokri, a fierce critic of the current administration said Buhari’s endorsement of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of APC destroyed the party.
Oshiomhole some weeks ago emerged as the party’s National Chairman.

Reno however faulted Oshiomhole's emergence as party chairman, saying unionism was different from partisan politics.

In a tweet, the former Presidential aide wrote:

“Buhari destroyed APC with his own hand. How could he bring a labour leader to head his party? Unionism is a different kettle of fish from partisanship. Labour leaders order union workers about.

“A party chairman builds consensus by giving and taking. Oshiomhole was a huge mistake!”

Reno made the allegations at a time Oshiomhole has been unable to unite the party after he had before his emergence promised so.

No fewer than 15 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC had on Tuesday, defected from the party. The defectors cited crisis and factions as the reasons for their defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party.
Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC. While 33 moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 4 moved to another party.
