15th - Rich4god 23rd - Sal C 26th - MarvellousGod 27th - Syncan 31st - Kamsified
Still waiting on others to choose their dates.
May I suggest that people should also mention their prayer intentions if they wish... |

Syncan: Without undermining SalC, I am sure it will be a pleasure to us that you moderate, God bless you bro.
As per the second question, see this:
"While the word novena comes from the Latin novem, meaning "nine," the term has also come to be used generically to refer to any lengthy series of prayers. Thus, the Saint Andrew Christmas Novena is recited for more than nine days, between the Feast of St. Andrew (November 30) and Christmas."

My big questions are : Does it apply to Africans as well?
Aside from, perhaps, Beloved Desmond Tutu, How many other African priests, Catholic or other, can and will say the same to his African brothers and sisters? The Catholic Church has always taught us to respect our culture, especially what is good about it. Pope Francis didn't teach something new to us. |

Syncan: For our October devotion/novena, We'll have to use the rosary this time around. Anyone who subscribes to saying five decades(one chaplet) of the rosary each day through the month of October, is free to choose a particular day on which the rest brethren will have a special mention of him/her in our prayers. The rosary could be said alone or in group, at once or at intervals, all one needs to do is say five decades daily through the month of October. I encourage you brethren to join in this as many have obtained by group prayer so much mercies from God. Where two or three shall gather in my name...It is good to have your name acknowledged as part of the novena if you want to participate, a look at Numbers 11:26 tells you how God acts when a list is made. Eldad and Medad though not physically present before the Tabernacle still got the anointing given to the rest, just because their names were in the list. Our novena Prayers may take this form. Novena prayers O God, infinite beauty. Wretched as we are, we approach in humility your throne, with thanksgiving and petition. Thanksgiving for the numerous mercies received from you, and petition for the many needs that weigh heavily on us. Heal our Nation, and Look kindly upon our prayers, especially that of ........who we pray for today, and of mine(you may add yours), through the merits of the passion of your son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for us dearest mother Mary, as we offer you this five decades; as a bouquet of roses, with eyes filled with hope and filial love. Amen. Most Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit- I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference whereby He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners. Amen. May someone volunteer to moderate this novena by updating us, on who chose what date; and who we're praying for each day, the rest of us can always stand in when necessary. I choose 27th of October. Thanks bro Syncan. Nice to hear from you. Allow me to invite our fellow Catholics. Forgive me...let there be too many mentions...but I don't want anyone to be left out because he/she 'didn't see it.' Crask: Aizenosa,
Yes, try to keep up.
We've already considered that and have moved on the next question, which is based on the fact that he must have known the way that would have sounded, which brings up the question as to why he didn't take a moment to clarify what he meant. Rather, he instead just left it at that. So, either the Pope is an idiot who can't understand simple common sense things, or he meant for it to be provocative and simply was not interested in telling us that he only mean from the human perspective.
The point is, his whole theme is one that esteems Allah as God, and Muhammad as a legitimate prophet of God. Yet he gives the aura of denigrating Christ without actually stating further to demonstrate that he meant only from a human perspective.
Also, even from a human perspective, back then Christ's life may have been regarded as a failure, but today, even from a human perspective, Christ's life cannot be seen as a failure but by a fool.
The man's life changed the course of the entire world for the better. Even by our imperfect, not understanding minds, Christ's life is not even remotely a failure.
For the Pope to say nothing further than what he said means that he's okay with exactly what he said, which means he's either mentally deficient, or he actually IS okay with what he said, regardless of how it could be construed. The Pope was primarily speaking to Catholics...and we understand. When the Pope speaks to iddiots, he might need to explain further...but even if he did, iddiots would not understand. |

I agreed with you that some media organizations are sometimes be biased in their reports and publications doesn't mean that most of them are not trying their possible best to be less bias. The likes of BBC, NY TIMES, ETC.
Of which, you can't doubt the fact that most media organizations are almost unbiased or approaching to that height. False! They aren't just "sometimes" biased. They are institutionally biased. Please read these links to see how BBC and NYTimes (amongst others) have a deeply entrenched and institutionalized liberal bias. http://www.cps.org.uk/publications/reports/bias-at-the-beeb/http://www.mrc.org/timeswatch/http://newsbusters.org/blogs/clay-waters/2012/12/27/five-blasts-bias-new-york-times-2012http://www.algemeiner.com/2014/01/24/exclusive-new-york-times-slammed-for-media-bias-on-billboard-in-front-of-times-square-hq-interview/http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/10235967/BBC-is-biased-toward-the-left-study-finds.htmlmenesheh: Coming to scientific investigations and the application of methodological naturalism; bringing up bias in the process of such models like laying hypothesis, falsification, criticism and doubt and peer review, makes you demonstrably ignorant to such models. How am I ignorant? Are you saying big organizations and scientists don't deliberately falsify/manipulate data to push selfish agenda? menesheh: Moreover, what's your main reasons for bringing up bias in scientific methods here. Are you trying to talk down on science which continue to produce effective result of which you can testify to that by typing here on Nairaland. I'm not trying to talk down science. I'm talking about falsehood in science because that's what many big organizations use to falsify data and preach lies as fact. By the way, science helps me to type on nairaland and helps terrorists to bomb people too. menesheh: Now pinpoint those scientific facts that you felt science peddle as facts in order to spread conspiracy theories and selfish agenda? Show me your report papers against such lies you've written and published for scientific evaluations and vetting that they turned down? Here is proof that falsification/manipulation of data is widespread among scientists. http://www.wired.com/2013/01/worst-science-misdeeds-2012/http://kalw.org/post/misdeeds-not-mistakes-behind-most-scientific-retractionshttp://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/09/a-scientific-look-at-bad-science/399371/menesheh: Assuming scientific fact are debunked today, did you feel religion can take that position of which you know religion is not evidence based, they all are faith based. Tell me why I should accept everything that was said in the article based on blind faith, like you...when we know that journalists, media houses, celebrities can falsify such data. Simple. menesheh: Lastly, what are those selfish agendas you felt science is pursuing as you said. Mind you that majority of those scienctists are theists. If you are a scientist researching on an observed thesis, you have to wear off your personal beliefs and convictions, then pursue where the evidence can lead you to. If not, other scienctist researching on same topic will turn you down with evidence overriding yours which is still open to more review and evaluation by other scientists via the process of peer review and falsification. Or one used to such, eg a catholic used to being fed lies by his masters. Abi can you show me an instance of google manipulating it's search trend results??
Btw, nice to see you've shifted from "NYtimes is conspiring against jesus" to "google is conspiring against jesus". this even after I pointed out that the article wasn't published by google (abi is he employed by google?), and that his views are not necessarily those of NYtimes. But no, I'm sure google is doctoring results just to make it seem like jesus is becoming less popular. And only in the US and other first world countries. they also employed Judas 2000 years ago to betray jesus, even if that whole story is fictional. At least, you seem to be suggesting that no xtians are smart enough to work for google or be in a position there to catch their filthy lies...
And once again, they likely aren't the only ones monitoring web activity. there's a whole industry built around avoiding trackers via a variety of means (see ad blockers, ghotsery etc). Advertisers, govt agencies, rivals of sotrs all get in on the action in some form or the other. the author even uses facebook data in there, no? Is facebook also in on the conspiracy? Were facebook also responsible for faking the apollo moon landings and the grinch stealing xmas?
Sure, all this data may not be strictly of the same sort (actually, some are supersets of google searches, especially those of gov agencies, but we can ignore that), and not all of it may be readily available to the public even for a fee, but that should tell you something about doctoring such results. And do feel free to use their data to counter the authors opinions and/or google's/facebook's data. Don't worry, we aren't paranoid and therefore won't see a conspiracy.
Lemme guess, your response. All this will fly right by you and.....
Don't bother as I've done it for you You're still attacking my person because you lack answers to my argument. Big media houses, scientists and other organizations are in the habit of lying/falsifying/manipulating data to push selfish agenda. You cannot deny that. So why do you expect everyone to have blind faith (like you) in the declarations of NYTimes/the author/ google? NYTimes has been known for being unbiased or less biased media organization. Moreover, You are the one trying to be bias here because, your intent and presuppositions are not well represented the level you are expecting. Let me get you straight. Are you saying that Google, Alexa and NYTimes cannot lie/falsify/manipulate such data? I'm not biased because I didn't say categorically that they are false. Anas09: When the pope said, The Church' he is not refering to the body of Christ as awhole. He is talking abt the RCC. It has taken the place of God/Christ. Behind 'the church is Mary. The Catholic Church doesn't recognise any other denomination other than RCC. And pls be adviced, RCC is not Christianity. It is a distortion of Chritianity. Mary is their goddess. They belive in the virgin birth of Mary. And they believed she died a virgin, even wen the Bibles states clearly that Mary had other children Lk 6:3. They make her divine so that they can worship her(Queen of Heaven) Jere. 7:16. Their relationionship is with mary not with Jesus. If u don't believe and treat mary as they do, then u r not saved. Checkout their Jesus, is either he's a toddler in a craddle or nailed on the cross. Ask any Catholic if he/she is expecting the second coming of Christ and hear what they will tell U. They have the same spirit with Islam. Perversion of the truth. The RCC fought to keep all Europe catholics. An empty religion without the holy spirit, now Europe is all atheist. That's what the Pope is advocating here, drop Jesus and turn to 'THE CHURCH' then when u r confronted with questions and challenges, there'll be no holy spirit to teach U, then u can turn and say there's no God. Why are you lying against the Catholic Church and misrepresenting its teachings and practises? Is it because you cannot fault it's true teachings and practises? |

That's according to you and your demonic cartoons. According to the Holy bible: Matt26:26 And whilst they were at supper, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke: and gave to his disciples, and said: Take ye, and eat. This is my body.
Luke22:19 Then he took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”That is Religion...which inevitably leads to a personal relationship with Jesus. |

trapQ: Christianity is a relationship with GOD. there's no addition and subtraction to this. why do you think JESUS CHRIST died for our sins?? its simple- to reconcile us with our GOD and he's the mediator. he didn't die to reconcile us with our neighbours. he doesn't serve as a mediator BTW us and our neighbours.
before Christ came, everyone had a relationship with their neighbours, but only " few prophets" had a relationship with GOD". if you still want to argue, consult your ancestors. Your argument is not against me, but against the bible. I only asked you to confirm that these verses are blasphemous since they show Christianity to be about having a relationship with God and neighbour. 1John4:20 Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. 21 The commandment we have from him is this: those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also. Matt25:37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or Unclad and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ Matt22:36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Lastly, 6 out of the 10 commandments refer to your relationship with neighbour. |

OLAADEGBU: Those keys were not literal keys. What you supposed to take as literal you allegorise and what you suppose to take as a metaphor you take it literal.
The figurative key that Jesus used was to open the way of salvation for those hearers who will respond to the gospel message. Peter representing all the apostles used the key to open the door to the Jews and Gentiles respectively. Oh...so now Jesus was talking about Peter and not his 'great confession' anymore. Keep fooling yourself. Scriptural evidence for Confession and Papacy is there in black and white: John20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Matt16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” John21:15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

OLAADEGBU: This can easily be debunked. Why do we not find all of your false teachings in this Bible if the Roman catholics actually compiled it? Because we have no false teaching. The bible is a product of Catholic teaching. Nowhere did the bible mention "bible." And the bible didn't fall from the sky as you believe. |

OLAADEGBU: So you expect every statement I make to be quoted verbatim from the Bible.
This is how the verse will read in the Greek tenses:
"Whose soever sins you remit, they shall have been remitted to them"
Again there's a play on words here. In Greek, "Peter" means petros, which is a small stone, whereas "rock" is petra, meaning a great rock mass, solid and immovable. The Rock is Jesus Christ on which the Church is built upon and not a small stone, Peter. It was Peter's great confession of Jesus as the Creator and Son of the living God was the massive rock foundation on which Christ would build His Church.
The word "Church" that Jesus used here in Greek is ekklesia, meaning the called out assembly in the NT. This Church built by Christ consists of all who agree in mind and spirit with Peter's great confession in the biblical reference you quoted earlier on. and Jesus also gave the keys to the kingdom to "Peters confession" abi...keep fooling yourself alone. It's in black and white, it doesn't need explanation: John20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” Matt16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” |

OLAADEGBU: And I have also told you that only Jesus Christ can forgive you of your sins not your pope neither your priests as you are led to believe. Only our Lord Jesus Christ forgives on the basis of saving faith in Christ alone, not in your pope or your pastor and certainly not in conjunction with your works. It is by faith in Jesus Christ alone.
The disciples you referred to in the quote up there were given the authority to recognise such faith in new believers and then give them assurance of salvation according to the Word.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). The bible never said the bold. You're lying against God as usual. The disciples were simply given authority to forgive or retain sin. It's in black and white: John20:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Matt16:18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” |
