its really simple - boycott dstv.
people have been complaining for years but no one wants to simply stop using dstv
if enough people stop , they will be forced to drop price. Or they will close shop. I cannot in good conscience blame these companies that have their major expenses in foreign currency when they increase price. |

BlueRayDick: Banks dey even give people money to develop properties in high brow areas with the hope that when they sell such properties after completion the principal and interest is repaid.
If u see someone who is popular that has “Lakashegbe royal court estates , Lekki “, u will start valuing the property and assuming he must be a multi billionaire to have been able to develop tastefully finished block of flats in that highbrow area of Lagos . You won’t know he only has a mind for risk and hoping to reap the reward that comes with the risk all things being equal .
So just like u and izzou have rightly stated , buying plots of land for 240m no mean say u be billionaire in naira. Well said. Reminds me of that yoruba proverb "Eni ti ko ba mo bi egbe re se la, ere lo ma sa ku" |

It's possible to know one. Maybe this guy that imports batteries at the Main gate could be one (I have forgotten his name...Iycon or something)
But it is not as common as we are portraying it. Because person buy land of 240 million no still mean say e be Billionaire
Billionaire no be here oh[/color] I know for a fact that if you work with any of the major blue-chip companies like Total, Nlng,MTN e.t.c, bank marketers will be running after you with kneels on the ground begging you to obtain a loan. How much more these businessmen with the volume of transactions that occur in their accounts daily. That someone bought a land of 240m does not mean he has the money stashed somewhere and just brought it out at the snap of his fingers. And guess what, some of these loans go bad because the people we call billionaires can't service the loans and the banks can't recover the money. There's an entire department in the bank with staff whose only job is to recover bad loans. |

erico2k2: 1st assumption is wrong as I did drive a 318 in Nigeria from 2007 to 2010, I was in Nigeria for that duration. There is almost no road in Nigeria where you can get the pleasure of your HP from a car cos B4 10mins of putting your foot down bad road shows up. Unless you are driving a car with dynamic suspension like the range rover then Yeh. My BMW then came with 120miles I bought it from Germany.DO not just judge a 4cylinder engine as less power then you should just look into the xdrives and the VW Golf with a 4x4. This is blasphemy. You should check out the newly rehabilitated Ijebu Ode-Ore/Benin. You can drive for an hour 30 minutes with your eyes closed while maxing out your speedometer if you wish. Same experience with some sections of Lagos to Ibadan, Sagamu to Abeokuta and many others. |

chrisooblog: In theory I think it should because most of the dollars we use in our fx reserves for imports are directed mostly at petroleum products.
Self sufficient local refining however will be the ultimate solution at helping reduce the exchange rate in the short term.
@Ibime and other economists in the house what's your take on floating the naira? Is it a policy that any serious forward thinking government should be adopting? This is the part that sometimes confuses me. Why will Dangote for instance want to sell a commodity like refined fuel that is in high demand at a cheap price in Nigeria when he can export it and sell higher? It does seem to me like our days of importing fuel are still far from over even with Dangote coming on board. |

No, I'm not using it but I know someone who does and the vehicle is terribly reliable and fuel efficient. Two ingredients needed for a successful bolt business. If I may add, that Almera is rated as having fuel consumption of 37mpg. Lets say you get 30 due to our fuel and road conditions, it's still better than anything the corolla has to offer. |

moneymind: Hello guys, God bless you for all your contributions. I am currently considering buying a car for bolt. I'm based in Benin. Someone mentioned a list of recommended cars, I can't seem to find it. Though people have told me Corolla, Camry or Hyundai Elantra. My budget is between 1.5 to 1.8. Corolla seems to be out of it. I have seem some Camry big daddy within my range but to be honest I can't buy any of them with my hard earned money. I'm basically left with the Hyundai Elantra 2008. I have seen some very neat ones on Jiji. I plan on traveling to Lagos on Tuesday after the holidays to meet some of the sellers.
My questions are: Is the Elantra really a problem free car? Any particular thing I need to know? Do I have any better option for my budget? Pls also share any advice you have for someone traveling to Lagos to get a used car. Thank you for your anticipated support. The first thing you need is a sound mechanic. Look for a used 2003-2005 Nissan Almera Tino to buy and don't pay more than 600-700k for it no matter what the seller says. Use another 700k to overhaul the car, change the engine, gear, suspension, tires, battery, etc. Reverse all wiring back to the way it came from the factory. It should serve you for 6-12 months before you start having issues with it. Good luck. |

I saw someone say there are many billionaires in computer Village Ikeja and I just laughed. There are not many traders who became billionaires by just trading. Important to note that having a turnover of a billion naira does not make anyone a billionaire. Having assets in billions is what counts. |

raumdeuter: So between mid 20s when Obi finished University and mid 30s. He made enough money to become a majority shareholder in a bank and many other companies. A billionaire before politics
Tinubu has been in the political space for even longer made more enemies than Obi can ever dream of yet no one has come out to say this guy was my mate in secondary school and his name is this. This was our pictures and class register or Waec register to give a full dossier on him
So if we are to believe everything Obi said because no one has brought evidence to counter it, why can't we believe Tinubu since no one has brought documented evidence against him?
The years of opposition to the FG PDP, DSS, State security, WAEC etc no one could find one of Tinubus classmates, his waec registration nor class teacher who knew this face belonged to someone else not named Bola Tinubu
I am not saying Obi made money illegally I am saying we don't know enough for someone who talks a lot about his growing up and his journey to success. Was it a rich uncle, he won a lottery, or just trading that got him that fortune? If it's regular Onitsha market trading that's even a more compelling story that he should be telling and selling every day with details. Maybe there's a reason we don't know
Otedola Dangote you know or have an idea of what they did and how they became billionaires Obi did say Abacha appointed him to oversee port activities. I can't remember the exact capacity he served. He could have hit it big from there. |
