Abuja - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday admitted that it made an error in the earlier figure of 6.1 million registered voters announced for Lagos State in 2011. INEC said the figure was reduced to 4.6 million after the data was subjected to the Automated Fingerprints Identification System (AFIS), as well as discovery of data losses. This was contained in a statement by the chief press secretary to the chairman of the commission, Kayode Idowu, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja. The commission, however, specifically denied allegations that it had removed the records of 1.4 million persons from the voters’ register compiled in 2011 in Lagos State. The commission also added that it deferred the distribution of permanent voter cards (PVCs) in four other states it had earlier listed for this third phase, because the cards for those states had not been fully delivered by printers. This came just as criticisms continue to trail the third phase of the distribution of PVCs and continuous voters registration. The commission denied allegations of delisting voters and foul play, admitting, however, that the process faced “temporary challenges.” The states scheduled in the phase three are Adamawa, Borno, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Edo and Rivers. - NAN www.m.news24.com/nigeria/Politics/News/Lagos-61-million-registered-voters-an-error-20141110 |

They keep telling us how clueless GEJ is but they forgot to tell us how rapid Nigeria has developed over the years despite the insecurity that looms the Nation. These group, also forgot to tell us about the over 130 special schools built specially for those abandoned kids in the North which they tagged "Almajiris". They forget that, I as a person never saw a train in motion in Northern Nigeria during the previous administrations until GEJ made it possible. They also forgot to tell us that GEJ has built over 9 new Federal Universities in Nigeria out of which, 6 of them are in the North. They forgot telling us that Agriculture was completely looked down upon and people tend to view it as a job for the poor until GEJ turns it to a Gold Mine. These critics also forgot to tell us that, Akwa Ibom was once unheard of until GEJ and Godswill Akpabio came on board. Critics will always fails to mention how our Local and International Airports were in deplorable conditions until GEJ completely have them remodel to world class standard. God bless you all sincere advocate for good Governance in Nigeria. God Bless you Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR God Bless Nigeria And May God continue to fight for your battle. |

It's always good to have a plan B, especially when it comes to restaurant reservations, travel arrangements and babysitters. But what about spouses? A new, not-so-scientific survey of 1,000 married women conducted by the Daily Mail found that 50 percent have a "fall-back partner" should their current marriage take a turn for the worse. So who exactly is their plan B? The most common backup husbands, according to the survey, tended to be old friends with romantic intentions, ex-boyfriends, ex- husbands, colleagues or someone from the gym. In fact, 10 percent of participants said their backup guy had already confessed his love in the past, and 20 percent claimed the dude would "drop everything" to be with her, if she asked. A spokesman for OnePoll.com -- the online market research company who conducted the poll for the Daily Mail -- said, "For our research to establish that 50 percent of women in relationships have a 'Plan B' is a worrying sign." www.pointblank.com.ng/2014/10/survey-says-half-of-married-women-have.html?m=1

The month of September is serious with marriage crashing both local and international... Reports, reveal that Nollywood diva Ini Edo has joined the league of marriage break ups. Last week it was Tiwa Savage and Teebillz now our Ini Edo. Your favourite Nollywood actress Ini Edo is no longer married to American based business man Phillips Ehiagwina. The Marriage which was contracted in November 2008 is whispered to have been hopping on one leg before finally crashing over five weeks ago. A close friend of the actress squealed that the marriage broke down due to very strong allegations of 'serial cheating with evidence' but that the couple who are pretending to still be in talking terms might cite irreconcilable differences. Sources alleged that Phillips Ehiagwina demanded to have back the bride price he paid to marry Ini Edo and his wishes were granted by her people. Ini Edo and Phillips got married in an American ceremony and the whispers also indicate that part of the union may have also been dissolved. Efforts to contact Mr Ehiagwina to find out why he collected back the bride price he paid on our darling actress met a brick wall as his American and Nigerian phones were switched off. There are also strong whispers that a group of ladies accosted actress Ini Edo recently and beat the living daylights out of her.The whisperers say that the reason is that ''One of the girls who is dating a Lekki big boy named Lewa alleges that Ini has been dating her boyfriend for the past 3 years and it was time to stop and face her marriage but unfortunately Ini's marriage was already over by the time they accosted her. http://www.mysugardaily.com/ini-edos-six-year-marriage-to-phillip-ehiagwina-crashes

The United States yesterday expressed doubts over claims by the Nigerian military that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau had been killed in recent clashes with troops. According to a senior State Department official who spoke with reporters, “ the Nigerian government has announced several times that the head of Boko Haram was dead, and every single time, we find out that it is not true. “What I read recently is that Shekau’s lookalike or some Shekau impostor was killed and then I read later that maybe, Shekau himself was killed. I don’t put a lot of weight on those stories until we see more evidence,” the official added, asking not to be identified. The Nigerian Defense Ministry had, on Wednesday, said that Shekau was dead and that one Bashir Mohammed, killed during recent clashes with troops, was a lookalike who had been impersonating him in videos. The announcement makes it the first time that the military high command will be confirming the death of Shekau, after refusing to validate two previous claims from police and a regional task force in 2009 and 2013. But analysts have also dismissed the report, saying it was a propaganda. The State Department official equally maintained that Boko Haram was still carrying out attacks. The official held that the United States remains committed in trying to find some 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the militant group in April, which he acknowledged was “a huge challenge” stressing that “many of them were taken into the forest and given the long time in the hands of the terrorists, it is possible that many of them have been taken to other locations." www.dailypost.ng/2014/09/26/us-sceptical-nigerian-mlitarys-claim-killing-boko-haram-leader-shekau/

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday surprised Nigerians with the unconditional dropping of the 47 count-charge leveled against former Minister of Works, Dr. Hassan Lawal, and nine others, before a Federal High Court in Abuja for defrauding the government of N6bn. This came in disregard to the criticism facing the federal government for being too weak in the fight against corruption in the country. Few months ago, the federal government also dropped charges of theft totaling N446bn against Mohammed Abacha, son of former dictator, Sani Abacha. The EFCC had, for three times before it finally dropped the case, amended the charges against Lawal. The case was supposed to start afresh before a new judge – Justice Ahmed Mohammed because the former trial judge, Justice Adamu Bello retired from the bench in December 2013. When the case was called up yesterday, the EFCC prosecuting counsel, Wahab Shittu, released the shocker, saying, he had a “firm instruction” from the Commission to drop the charges. The trial judge obliged, thereby discharging Hassan Lawan, alongside Dr. Adeola Ademola, Dave Enejoh, Okala Yakubu and Thahal Paul. The remaining five out of the accused are companies. They include Digital Toll Company Ltd, Swede Control Intertek Ltd, Proman Vital Ventures Ltd, Wise Health Services Ltd and Abbey Building Society. Lawal was last year cleared by the court of an eight- count charge bordering on conspiracy and corruption to the tune of N43 million which was slammed on him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. That case presided over by the now retired Justice Adamu Bello, was made remarkable by the learned judge’s ruling where he chided the EFCC for a shoddy investigation. Justice Bello ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the essential ingredients of money laundering before the court asserting that the EFCC did not present any evidence to show that the transferred funds were derived from illegal and corrupt proceeds. “Prosecution failed to prove that the money in question was derived from illegal source, even when the accused gave the prosecution a lead that he got the money from other transactions, such as the sales of his assets, the prosecution did not bother to ask whether the transaction is real or not,” he said. Conversely, in Yesterday’s case, the judge did not even hear the case, as it was the EFCC itself which asked him to discharge the former Minister. Lawal and his co-accused were being prosecuted for fraudulently obtaining a total sum of N6.41bn from the Federal Government, Kogi and Nasarawa State governments between 2006 and 2009 under a public- private partnership concession scheme for the construction of a bridge across River Benue. The total cost of the project which was to link Guto and Bangana in Nasarawa and Kogi states respectively was N24.36bn and was expected to be delivered in two years, from May 2007 to May 2009. No fewer than 130 exhibits were tendered while it was being heard by the retired Justice Adamu. According to the EFCC lawyer, Shittu, who did not even give a reason justifying the Commission’s decision to withdraw the charges, he was merely acting on an instruction; “I have firm instruction that the case against the accused persons, all of them, be discontinued, “To assure you that I did not make the application out of my own volition I asked them to put it in writing and they did. So, as an obedient servant, I have no other choice than to carry out the instruction. I hereby apply that the charges be discontinued and the accused persons be discharged.” One of the lawyers of the accused requested the judge to not only discharge the accused but to acquit them. However, Shittu urged the court to refuse to make an acquittal order on the grounds that the accused had not been arraigned before the new judge, and that the application for discontinuance was “without prejudice to the merit or otherwise of the matter.” Consequently in a short ruling, Justice Mohammed upheld Shittu’s contention, noting that he lacked the power to make an order for acquittal when the accused persons had not been arraigned before him. www.dailypost.ng/2014/09/26/efcc-drops-n6bn-fraud-case-ex-works-minister-nine-others-without-reason/

The Managing Director of online hotel booking platform Jovago, Marek Zmyslowski, at the ongoing 3rd EU- Nigeria Business Forum has stated that online businesses have contributed to the growth of the Nigerian economy. In a statement made on a panel discussing private sector contribution to Nigeria’s growth at the EU – Nigeria Business Forum held yesterday, Marek Zmyslowski stated that with the influx of online businesses in Nigeria, the economy has seen a significant boom. Zmyslowski was on the panel with the Deputy Minister of Economy, Poland, Andrzej Dycha; UK Trade Envoy to Nigeria, David Heath MP; Head of EU Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Michael Arrion; Regional Director, Peugeot Nigeria, Eric Maydieu; CEO, National Competitiveness Council of Nigeria (NCCN), Chika Mordi; World Bank Lead Economist, John Litwack; Director, Orleans Invest, Simone Volpi and a representative of the Hon. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga all of whom held varying opinions on the position of the Nigerian economy and what it stands to gain from executing the proposed free trade agreement. As Zmyslowski noted, “Agriculture and Oil used to be the leading sources of the Nigerian economy, but with the rebased GDP it was shown that these two industries together only account for 37.9% of the Nigerian economy. A bigger percentage of 51% was allocated to services of which online businesses like Jovago.com play a big part of.” He went on to say that “the rebasing of the GDP merely reinforced the fact that Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa, a fact which has been long evident from Nigeria’s booming economy” This EU-Nigeria Business Forum, which is the 3rd one that has been in held in Nigeria so far, is set to showcase European trade in Nigeria and discuss possible business growth for Nigeria. The EU-Nigeria Business Forum is being organised by the EU delegation to Nigeria, a number of EU Member States and the Nigerian government. The forum is expected to bring together, policy makers and business representatives with the aim to boost trade relations between Europe and Nigeria. www.itnewsafrica.com/2014/09/nigeria-online-businesses-fueling-economy/

A married man is said to have been beaten up by his mother-in-law for not able to get her daughter pregnant. Thembelani Dube is said to have been battered by Onzilina Mpala for failing to provide her with another grandchild with his wife, Virginia Ndlovu. The couple has a 3-year-old daughter and both the mother-in-law and the wife blame Dube for the lack of another child. According to reports: It is alleged that Dube, who has been married to Virginia for six years and has a three-year-old daughter, courted the ire of his mother-in-law after he failed impregnate the woman’s daughter for the second time. The distressed man claimed that his wife further told her mother that he was weak in bed and was therefore failing to impregnate her. “I have been customarily married to Virginia Ndlovu for six years and we are blessed with a baby girl aged three. She is denying me my conjugal rights and she is sleeping with other men whom she is saying are better than me. This started when I left her at our house while going to my rural home,” he said. “When I discovered it I called her mother Onzillina Mpala to come and reprimand her but she went on to insult me saying I deserve it and was not man enough because I stayed with her daughter for six years with only one child. Sometime in September Mpala together with her other daughter, Sithabile Ndlovu, assaulted me with a stick accusing me of failing to impregnate Virginia for the second time,” he added. http://-omoooduarere..com.es/2014/01/woman-batters-son-in-law-for-failing-to.html?m=1 |
In some ways, Rebecca Wright doesn't understand all the fuss over her 96-year-old mother's recent marriage. After all, she says, "Anybody who wants to get married must have a little dementia." The courts, though, and some of Wright's other relatives aren't amused. And the future for newlyweds Edith Hill, 96, and Eddie Harrison, 95, is very much uncertain. The two have been companions for more than a decade after a Hollywood-style meet-cute — they struck up a conversation while standing in line for lottery tickets, with one of the tickets turning into a $2,500 winner. They married earlier this year, with a 95-year-old church elder presiding over the ceremony, no less. "I guess I wanted company," Hill said in an interview, explaining why she married. "I wanted somebody I could help, and they could help me. ... We were both single. My husband was gone. His wife was gone. We became the best of friends." Robin Wright, Hill's granddaughter, said the relationship is more romantic than Hill's explanation allows. "You catch them kissing all the time," she said. "They're actually in love. Really in love. ... I know he's part of the reason she gets up every morning." Legally, though, the wedding has been problematic. Hill has been declared legally incapacitated for several years. A judge said at a hearing earlier this month that he believes Wright — co-guardian over her mother along with Rebecca Wright's sister who opposed the marriage — acted improperly by taking her mother to get married without the court's permission. Cary Cuccinelli, representing the sister who opposed the marriage, Patricia Barber, said at a hearing earlier this month that the wedding occurred without other family members' knowledge, and that it complicated the matter of how to eventually distribute Hill's estate, which includes property on the edge of Old Town Alexandria, worth about $475,000, according to real estate assessments. "Legally, Mr. Harrison now has a right to a portion of Ms. Hill's estate," she told the judge, saying it also complicates decisions over who will care for Hill, and where she will live. While the judge, James Clark, found the marriage to have been improper, he also worried that breaking up the couple could "create a circumstance in Ms. Hill's life that she doesn't deserve." Clark ended up removing Wright and Barber as Hill's guardians, and appointing a lawyer, Jessica Niesen, instead. The judge instructed Niesen "to investigate the marriage and take all actions appropriate and reasonable to protect the best interests of Edith Hill." Niesen, in a phone interview, said she is still gathering facts and has an upcoming appointment to meet Hill and Harrison. While there are numerous issues to be sorted out, including questions about inheritance and where the couple will live, she would just as soon let the marriage continue. "I see no reason to break this couple up, if there is no harm," she said. One solution might be a postnuptial agreement preventing Harrison from inheriting Hill's estate. Niesen said that if she finds that the marriage is not in Hill's best interest, she has the authority to pursue a divorce or possibly an annulment on Hill's behalf. Wright said she remained concerned authorities would try to break up the marriage. She also opposes a postnuptial agreement, saying the marriage should be respected just as any other. The interracial aspect of their marriage is unique as well. She is black and he is white. In fact, the longtime Virginians would not have been allowed to marry if they had met in their 20s or 30s or 40s, given Virginia's law banning interracial marriages at the time. Wright says she has concluded after doing some research through Guinness Book of World Records that the two are likely the nation's oldest interracial newlyweds. Edith Hill, for her part, doesn't give the interracial aspect of her marriage too much thought, despite the fact that for half of her life it would have been illegal. Asked about the old laws barring interracial marriage, she said, "That's done away with, isn't it?" For now, the two live together in Annandale, with Rebecca and Robin Wright helping care for them. Rebecca Wright said the two do a good job taking care of each other — his hearing is not great, and her vision is not great. They dance, listen to music and take walks, which has improved their health. And Rebecca Wright said the companionship two people of the same age provide each other can't be underestimated. "They can talk about things that nobody else knows about," she said. Eddie Harrison said he and Hill never fight, and they both understood what getting married would mean. "The first time I married I didn't know what I was doing," he said. "I was 18. She was 26. Two weeks later I wanted a divorce." http://news.yahoo.com/marriage-newlyweds-ages-96-95-questioned-081446668.html

I have a very annoying cat who likes to chew on thin cables. So far, it managed to destroy a couple of headsets, several phone chargers and the chord that went into my Wii's sensor. Since all my friends make fun of me on this subject, you can imagine how thrilled I was when I heard that other people have even bigger issues with cables that are being normed. Recently, Google decided to invest $300 million in a fiber-optic system situated under the ocean, which is designed to speed up the Internet in Asian countries. However, the system called FASTER has a major flaw: sharks find its cables irresistibly delicious. Yup, you heard it right. Apparently the sharks had no problem with the copper cables that were on the ocean floor, but the optical fiber is just yummy. While researchers can't make up their minds if the sharks bite the cables simply because they are curious or because the current flowing through them makes the predators think that they encountered a living creature, Google has to react. This is why Google's Product Manager Dan Belcher announced that the multinational company is wrapping the Internet cable in a material that is similar to Kevlar to ensure that the sharks can't damage the line. FASTER is the 3rd project of this kind for Google who currently owns more than 100,000 miles of fiber optic on the ocean floor. Besides sharks, the Internet line must also withstand other possible dangers such as earthquakes or anchors or ships.
