Lagos - Thousands of chickens have been culled in southern Nigeria after the discovery of bird flu in some poultry farms, the local health authorities said on Tuesday. State government officials in the financial capital, Lagos, and the oil city of Port Harcourt, said they had ordered the cull to prevent the spread of the disease. Lagos State agriculture commissioner Gbolahan Lawal said birds were found to be infected in two locations, in the south of the city during the Christmas and New Year festivities. "The bird samples were sent to the National Veterinary Research Institute in Vom, Plateau State, and they were unfortunately found positive for the H5 strain of avian influenza," he added. The affected farms were quarantined and there have been no reported cases since, he said, warning poultry farmers and sellers to report any high death rates of birds. In Port Harcourt, 435km to the southeast, the Rivers State government said it had killed "hundreds of birds" in a farm hit by the virus. Agriculture commissioner Emma Chinda said the authorities received a report on 14 January that a farm may have been infected and laboratory tests later confirmed the presence of the virus. "On the basis of that, we had to take necessary steps. Apart from quarantining the farm, we had to depopulate the birds in the farm to stop further spread," Chinda added. Officials said there was no indication the outbreak in Africa's most populous country was the H5N1 strain, which has killed more than 400 people worldwide since it first appeared in 2003. The World Organisation for Animal Health said: "The Nigerian authorities are investigating and monitoring the situation and they will report the updated information in their next follow-up report." www.m.news24.com/news24/Africa/News/Bird-flu-hits-two-Nigerian-cities-20150120

The presidency has denied that it would not hand over to Muhammadu Buhari if the opposition candidate is elected in next month’s election. Mr. Buhari’s campaign office had on Saturday issued a statement saying an official in the office of the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, posted the message on his social media platforms. “The Blackberry Messenger (BBM) statement by Deji Adeyanju, an official in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, said ‘Buhari can never be President of Nigeria. Quote me any day any time. Instead of Buhari to become President of Nigeria, Nigeria would rather break. A military coup will even be allowed than for Buhari to become the president of a democratic Nigeria quote me any day, any time,” Buhari’s campaign said in the statement by Garba Shehu, its spokesperson. Mr. Okupe’s office said the claim by the Buhari campaign is false. In a statement, Sunday, signed by Bamidele Salam, the presidency said “we categorically deny that this statement was ever made by anyone in this office. “The APC claim is absolutely false, mischievous and malicious,” it said. Although, the Buhari campaign said the alleged statements were posted on Facebook and Blackberry Messenger, the presidency made no reference to the two platforms. It however, said Mr. Okupe “personally handles his Twitter, @doyinokupe and other social Media platforms and continues to use such as a legitimate medium of advancing cause of democratic good governance and institutional integrity which President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan represents”. It also said Mr. Okupe has never and will never associate himself with thoughts or actions which run contrary to the tenets of democracy, rule of law and the right of Nigerians to freely elect those who govern them. “We urge the APC to concentrate and work more on clearing the name of its Presidential candidate from the mess of not having perquisite academic certificates and incapacity to govern Nigeria rather than seek a cheap diversion from a phantom post by some persons on the Social Media. “We remain committed to running campaigns based on those issues which are pertinent to the growth and stability of the Nigerian nation and will not condescend to the known antics of the opposition party in blackmail, falsehood and crass opportunism,” it said. Also, in a separate statement by the APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, the party said it will neither accept an interim government nor a postponement of next month’s elections. Mr. Mohammed warned that any attempt to scuttle the polls in preference for any other arrangement will be resisted by all available constitutional means. ”We are aware that those who are not comfortable with the turning of the political tide in favour of the opposition ahead of the elections are scheming to abort a possible victory for our party, through either an interim government or a postponement of the elections. ”These enemies of Nigeria include those who are worried by the strong anti-corruption stance of our party and its avowed commitment to good governance, and those who favour the status quo of anything goes, bad governance and massive corruption that have left Nigerians deeply pauperized and traumatized,” he said, while making reference to the alleged claim of Mr. Okupe’s aide. ”Our stand is simple but needs to be restated,” the APC said. “The 2015 general elections must hold as scheduled all over Nigeria, and our party is ready for the elections. As we stated earlier, we will only accept the outcome of a free, fair, credible and transparent elections, not that of manipulated polls. We will also not agree to the postponement of next month’s elections under any guise, and an interim arrangement plot is totally unacceptable to us. We challenge the ruling PDP to also state its own stand on next month’s polls for the world to note. ”We also challenge the presidency to state its own stand and to also distance itself from the anarchic and treasonable statement by one of its own over the forthcoming polls.” www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/175198-presidency-denies-military-handover-plot-apc-rejects-interim-government.html |
APC has been consistent in saying that PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous years in which corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills of society held sway. But at a very close look at the APC, I am seeing: 1. Rotimi Amaechi – 8 years speaker; 7 year, Governor under PDP. 2. Atiku Abubakar – 8 years Vice president under PDP. 3. George Akume – 8 years Governor under PDP. 4. Bukola Saraki – 8 years Governor; 2 years, Senator under PDP. 5. Timipre Sylver – 4 years Governor under PDP. 6. Audu Ogbe – 2 years Chairmanship of the PDP. 7. Aminu Masari – 4 years as the Speaker, House of Representatives under PDP. 8. Chris Ngige – 3 years Governor under PDP. 9. Rabiu Kwankwaso – 7 years Governor; 3 years Defense minister under PDP. 10. El Rufai – 4 years FCT Minister; 2 years BPE chairman under PDP. 11. And to cap it all, Obasanjo is the navigator of the APC, a man who spent 8 of the disastrous 16 years as the maximum ruler of Nigeria. It is now clearer that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people who created and perpetuated the 16 disastrous years are now dumped. So where is the change coming from? Are they now saints because they joined APC? Pls be WISE & VOTE not for those seeking power by FORCE #ASSOCIATION_OF_ PAST_ CRIMINALS |
N’Djamena (AFP) – Tens of thousands of people joined a march in N’Djamena on Saturday in support of Chadian troops heading to Nigeria and Cameroon to fight the Islamist group Boko Haram. Marching some five kilometres (three miles) through Chad’s capital, demonstrators waved the national flag and chanted in French and Arabic: “Kick the forces of evil out of our territory.” Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi Deubet said the march sent “a strong signal, a warning to Boko Haram”. The event came as a huge convoy set off from N’Djamena to combat the Islamists sowing terror in northeastern Nigeria and northern Cameroon. Thousands of people hailed the arrival of some 400 vehicles in the Cameroonian border town of Kousseri, an AFP journalist reported. Early this month Boko Haram launched a full-scale assault on the strategic town of Baga on the banks of Lake Chad, which straddles the borders of Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon. Chad is part of a regional force against Boko Haram that was based in Baga — but both Chad and Niger had withdrawn their troops before the January 3 attack. Chadian President Idriss Deby said in a speech read by the speaker of parliament that the new deployment aimed to recapture Baga. But Nigeria expressed lukewarm support fot the Chad mission on Saturday. “All support for our operations will be welcome, but it must conform with our own ongoing operations,” Nigerian army spokesman Chris Olukolade told AFP. The Cameroon government said on Monday that its army killed 143 Boko Haram fighters who had attacked a military base in the northern town of Kolofata. This week French President Francois Hollande and US Secretary of State John Kerry accused Boko Haram of committing crimes against humanity, while a top UN official, Leila Zerrougui, called for a regional response to the crisis. Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, who heads the regional Economic Community of West African States, called Friday for a “specific plan of action to end the problem of terrorism” in Africa. Satellite pictures released by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch last week showed around 3,700 buildings in Baga and nearby Doron Baga damaged or destroyed. Daniel Eyre, Nigeria researcher for Amnesty International, said as many as 2,000 civilians may have been massacred, but Nigeria’s army objected to the “sensational” claims and said that the death toll in Baga was about 150. Brutal raids, massacres, suicide bomb attacks and kidnappings by Boko Haram have claimed at least 13,000 lives and driven an estimated 1.5 million people from their homes, mainly in northeastern Nigeria. www.nigeriaentertainment.io/thousands-see-off-chadian-troops-fight-boko-haram/

Someone will blame President Jonathan soon. * Sipping Alomo while watching in HD* |
95% of you who commented above don't have a job and hardly read or carryout studies; in that regards, I chose not to blame you for voicing blindly. However, it may not or may interest you to know that the Technology Mr President is talking about has been in the service system for more than a year now. Like the IPPIS enable salaries to be manage and paid to workers account (federal workers not state) automatically and timely through CBN enroute individual bank. That alone has save the government billions of naira within a short time by eliminating faceless workers otherwise known as 'ghost workers' in the federal ministries and agencies. Plz, before criticism ensure you know what you are saying so you won't look stupid to someone who knows. You can quote me if you wish; this is what I know and I am a beneficiary. And go ask your father or relative who are gainfully employed by the Federal government. |
Back in September one of the prominent Nigerian Kings, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi visited London accompanied by his 4 wives. As the family left Nigeria, they were dressed in matching outfits which became the object of envy and gossip. After they left Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, social media was awash with comments about the polygamous marriage. A lot of people concentrated on the negative aspect of this arrangement but the others celebrated a king and his queens in tune with their culture. Poligamy is frowned upon in many countries, not entirely sure it works, but it seems the king here is making it work and in style too. Maybe it is the Queens who have mastered the art of team work, up to you to judge. For now have a look at this dazzling show. Hail the the King and his wives of course. www.myafricanow.com/nigerian-king-4-wives-matching-outfits-causes-stir-london/

Pa Muhammadu Buhari has also told the Independent National Elecoral Commission that he has no academic qualification to submit and that his academic qualifications and credentials are with the military. At INEC headquarters at Area 10, Abuja, Buhari’s academic qualifications were not on display as required, unlike those of other Presidential candidates, including President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party. But in an affidavit, which he deposed to at a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, he explained that all his certificates were with the Secretary, Military Board. Pa Buhari who is a advocate of Sharia law across the country explained in an affidavit he deposed, which he submitted to the commission that all his academic credentials were with the Secretary, Military Board. The affidavit deposed at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Abuja and dated November 24,2014, was stamped and received at INEC headquarters on December 18, 2014. In the affidavit, Buhari said: “All my academic qualifications (documents) as filled in my presidential form, President APC/001/2015, are currently with the Secretary Military Boards as at the time of this affidavit.”He added: “The affidavit is made in good faith and for record purpose.” Last week it was revealed the Pa Buhari was the only Nigerian military officer that did not pass any Military examination throughout his career and his promotion were based on length of service and quota requirement. www.hopefornigeriaonline.com/pa-buhari-have-no-primary-school-certificate-inec/

The Islamic terrorists have appealed to the Federal Government that they would like to exercise their franchise rights in the 2015 general elections. This plea was made in a private letter which was sent to INEC office at Abuja via mail. The letter was to the effect that the members of Boko Haram would like to exercise their franchise rights to vote for the candidates of their choice, and it would amount to a breach of their constitutional rights if they are not permitted to vote. It looked like a joke till a video was released this morning by the Islamic group wishing everyone a happy new year and also emphasizing ” we want to vote…and they most allow us vote” They cited the example of prisoners who have recently been given the legal impetus to partake in election processes as the more reason why they should be allowed to vote. According to them, there would be blood in the cities if they are refrained from voting. They suggested to INEC that a polling center should be set up at the edge of the Sambisa forest to facilitate easy voting. www./2015/01/want-vote-2015-elections-boko-haram-reveal-first-video-year/ |
Do you love Kim Kardashian as much as this 23-year-old man? Jordan James Parke, who is obsessed with the controversial celebrity, has already spent $160,000 that`s about N29,944,000 naira to look like his idol, Manchester, England, UK. A Kim Kardashian superfan says that this money is nothing because his person of adoration – Kim Kardashian-West – deserves more. The young man has already undergone 50 lip-filling operations, eyebrow tattoos, botox injections and laser hair removal. And why trying to match Kardashian’s wardrobe he also buys expensive designer clothes in unlimited quantities. Mr. Parke made the decision that he wanted to look like the reality show icon after first seeing her on Keeping Up with the Kardashians several years ago. “I love everything about Kim. She’s the most gorgeous woman ever. Her skin is perfect, her hair, everything about her. I’m addicted to lip-fillers. The bigger, the better. I’ve never felt better about myself. My look is all about the shock factor. I love all the attention and the stares I get in the street. I welcome the hate – it just means more attention. And if anything, it just spurs me on to get more work done. For every person that hates my look, there’s someone who loves it – and those are the only people I care about.” He said. First of all, I don't know where to categorize this. However, the pictures below was a refilling station that was one of the NNPC Mega station in Zaria, Kaduna state. I drove to Abuja to celebrate Christmas with my family 23rd and had to return today 26th and found the once NNPC now MAMU Oil Nig LTD. Is this how corruption has eaten dip within the Northern or is the price per litre now selling for #120 that prompt this. I really do want to know.

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has retaliated back with words concerning what a former President Olusegun Obasanjo said about him in his latest book,’My Watch’. It would be recalled that the former President had lambasted the Nobel Laureate in his new book, describing him as a self serving critic who always sought to shine out among men. Obasanjo also claimed that the Nobel Laureate is a “misfit as a political analyst, commentator or critic.” For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot – on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him.” Vanguard reports that Soyinka has replied, describing Obasanjo as a career liar who is always determined to crookedly project himself above his true standing among men. Soyinka also said the Obasanjo brand was compounded by the inclination of even foisting the lies on members of the younger generation. It would also be recalled that Obasanjo further assessed Soyinka saying: “He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful “aparo” (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic, not to talk of what he would do as a politician,” adding “I take him seriously on almost all issues except on the political particularly Nigerian politics.” Replying Wednesday in a treatise, titled Watch and Pray, Watch and Prey, Soyinka said: I had fully attuned myself to the fact that our Owu retiree soldier and prolific author is an infliction that those of us who share the same era and nation space must learn to endure. However, it does appear that there is no end to this individual’s capacity for infantile mischief, and for needless, mind-boggling provocations, such as his recent ‘literary’ intrusion on my peace. Perhaps I ought to interrupt myself here with an apology to some mutual acquaintances – ‘blessed peacemakers’ and all – especially in this season of ‘peace and goodwill to all men’. Please know that your efforts have not been entirely in vain. I had a cordial exchange with Obasanjo over the phone recently – engineered by himself, his ground staff and/or a chance visitor – when I had cause to visit his Presidential Laundromat for the first time ever. During that exchange, I complemented him on making some quite positive use of landed property that was acquired under morally dubious circumstances, and blatantly developed through a process that I denounced as ‘executive extortionism’. That obscene proceeding has certainly set a competitive precedent for impunity in President Jonathan’s recent fund-raising shindig, editorialized in THE PUNCH (Dec. 23, 2014) as “Impunity Taken too Far”. So much for the latest from that directions – we mustn’t allow Handing-Over notes between presidents to distract us for too long. To return to our main man, and friendly interventionists, you may like to note that I went so far as to engage him in light banter, stating that some of his lesser sins would be forgiven him for that creative conversion of the landscape – a conversation that he shortly afterwards delightedly shared with at least three mutual acquaintances. I promised a follow-up visit to view some mysterious rock script whose existence, he informed me, was uncovered by workers during ground clearing. The exchange was, in short, as good as ‘malice towards none’ that any polemicist could hope to contribute to the ongoing season of peace and goodwill. Obviously that visit will not now take place, any more than the pursuit of vague notions of some creative collaboration with his Centre that began to play around my mind. www.naij.com/349461-soyinka-blasts-obasanjo-says-hes-a-compulsive-liar |

A Nigerian residing in Washington D.C has blasted People’s Democratic Party secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo for suggesting that APC’s presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari is a semi illiterate. Dr M.K Hassan in his write up, said that he was shocked to hear the words of the PDP spokesman and it might be the reason our education system has fallen so low. He wrote: Anyone interested in verifying Buhari’s academic credentials can write the school instead of reading jargon from a deranged Wadata Plaza Professor of Politics of Destruction Party (PDP). I have checked Google Scholar hoping that Prof. Wale Oladipo’s name and publications will show up but nothing is showing up, that says a lot about him as a Professor than Buhari as a retired decorated General who served his country so well and has not claimed any scholarship. Full statement below: A Rejoinder to ‘Semi-Illiterate’ PDP Secretary Prof. Wale Oladipo by Dr. M.K. Hassan. I was shocked to read a press statement from Wadata Plaza issued by a so called Professor Wale Oladipo, secretary of the PDP, saying that General Muhammadu Buhari is a semi illiterate jackboot. It is no wonder that our education system has fallen so low, else how can one explain a professor making such a statement? How did Wale Oladipo become a professor to start with? It is quite astonishing that he can say this. The professor doesn’t seem to understand the basic rudiments of learning and what it means for one to be literate or not. Buhari attended the best military schools in the world. In case the professor doesn’t know, Buhari graduated as a military officer (Lieutenant) in Royal Military Academy, Aldeshot UK. He attended the Defense College India. Col Buhari attended the US Army War College Carlisle in Pennsylvania from 1979 -1980 and earned his command as a Brigadier General. The respected General Collin Powel attended the same school in 1976 to become Brigadier General. Some of Buhari’s classmates include General Beltson, General Thomas P Carney, General Bill Matz, General David E.K. Cooper etc. all of them are alive and can be reached and they will give glowing tributes of the man, Buhari, they know as their classmate. The curriculum at the U.S. Army War College earns one a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies and that is what Buhari has. Anyone interested in verifying Buhari’s academic credentials can write the school instead of reading jargon from a deranged Wadata Plaza Professor of Politics of Destruction Party (PDP). I have checked Google Scholar hoping that Prof. Wale Oladipo’s name and publications will show up but nothing is showing up, that says a lot about him as a Professor than Buhari as a retired decorated General who served his country so well and has not claimed any scholarship. For somebody to claim that a graduate of such a prestigious school is semi-illiterate, means something is very wrong with that person’s brain. By all academic and military standards, Buhari’s education is superb and the best any general can get in the world. Therefore, for Wale Oladipo to claim Buhari is semi-illiterate speaks volumes about his understanding of what education is even all about. The unlearned professor thinks education is about earning paper degrees only, and even if it was the case, Buhari has them from the most respected military institutions in the world. Buhari has the kind of military strategic education and experience to deal a decisive blow on Boko Haram and end the insecurity challenges facing Nigeria. Buhari is the only army officer with the opportunity to command 3 out of 4 Nigeria’s army divisions as a GOC. In 1983, when rebels from Chad took over our land, seizing more than 19 villages (much like what the Boko Haram is doing now), Major General Buhari led a successful operation as the GOC to push back the Chadian rebels and reclaim our territory. In 1984, when the Maitatsine sect decided to declare war on Nigeria like what Boko Haram is doing now, Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari wasted no time in crushing them. Boko Haram is a descendant of the Maitatsine sect with the same extremist ideology and anti-western education philosophy. It is surely President Buhari that will be able to handle them: eliminating these terrorists when he comes to power like he did before. Muhammadu Buhari as a captain fought in the Congo Civil War and won the Congo Medal. He was there during our civil war to bring peace and keep Nigeria one. That is true patriot: a man that gave his life to another country not only his fatherland. Since the goons in Wadata Plaza have started the literacy debate, it is very appropriate to ask them that they produce Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s Ph.D thesis and publications in renowned journals. Goodluck’s speeches, attitude, and interviews with international media don’t portray him as a Ph.D holder. His past interview with Christiane Amanpour was quite embarrassing; he couldn’t even make eye contact with her. Nigerians are eager to read his thesis and publications. In conclusion, it is obvious to all Nigerians that the PDP government and its illiterate professor are only interested in playing dirty politics with the lives and properties of Nigerians. Nigerians now need Buhari, a man with international military education and experience, a seasoned administrator with zero tolerance for corruption to end this insecurity, bring prosperity, and place Nigeria at the seat it deserves in the comity of nations. Dr. MK Hassan wrote in from Washington D.C. http://www.naij.com/348397-pdp-shameful-calling-buhari-semi-illiterate.html http://www.ladunliadinews.com/2014/12/dr-mk-hassan-fires-back-at-pdp-for.html

Do you think 37 is too young to get married? Timaya, who is 37, certainly thinks so, as he’s said in an interview with Punch that he’s too young to get married. Here’s what he had to say: “I am not yet ready to get married and anyone who is looking for that is only being deceived because I am too young to get married. Marriage is not all about money and nobody knows what I have in the bank because they are not my accountant. Musicians lie a lot, so don’t believe most of what they tell you. They are only trying to ‘package’ themselves. I am not prepared for marriage because I am not yet ready to sacrifice for any woman, I am sorry. My daughter is my life and I love her so much but marriage is not on my mind. I don’t want a situation whereby I will tell a woman I want to travel somewhere and she would be complaining.” To some this seems legit, but then some others are 37 and have 3-4 children already. Timaya has a daughter who is about 2 now. Really it all depends on what you want out of life finally. But we ask: Is 37 Too Young To Get Married? www.jaguda.com/2014/12/20/im-young-get-married-timaya/

Allow each state to manage its resouces to the best of their abilities. Every state should be allowed to have storage centres where their resources are stored and managed for the betterment of their states and people. Some percentage could be remitted to the Federal. This will make it easier for states to grow and manage their resources effectively hereby removing unecessary burdens on the Federal.
