Travel / Re: How Wakanow Is Deceiving Its Customers! by IyawoToBe(f): 6:57pm On Sep 18, 2016
Fongdu:
So I wanted to buy a ticket from Lagos to Dallas and I decided to check out Wakanow. I had some dollars and decided to pay in dollars which I think should be even cheaper considering that most airlines give their prices in USD which is converted to Naira for Nigerian customers.

Lo and behold, I noticed that the dollar rate on Wakanow when I changed the currency did not tally with what was presented in Naira if one is using the current official international rate of 315. Basically Wakanow was changing the dollar rate to Naira at 307! How is that possible considering that official international rate is currently 315? Well I did not really mind as this made paying in Naira cheaper for me, even though it raised red flags.

So I continued, and placed my booking. I later called them only to be informed that my booking price which I saw on the website had changed with an extra N163,000 which I had to pay to get the booking confirmed. This was the next day. Luckily I travel a lot and from my experience, ticket prices can fluctuate not more than $100 within 2 days. I did not bother with them again.

I realised what Wakanow is doing, they display ridiculously cheap prices on their website to lure people, by basically using a ridiculous exchange rate below official rate to display the Naira prices. Once the person pays, they will then ask you to pay the balance for a real ticket price, with the excuse that the ticket price has changed!

I know they will have agents here, and I will gladly welcome an explanation on my observations. For the rest, please be warned.
This also happened to me

Hi mamas,
Please has any RH negative mama here had to deal with carrying a preggy after a possible iso immunization due to an earlier missed miscarriage? How did u go about it nd how was it managed? Will appreciate ur responses. Thanks.

Cc kaffy4bill,thorpido,soonest,alphahandmaiden,zaynie,liftedhands,helovesme,ozycy,feddy27,sugah.
Kindly help me cc any mama that might be of help or who is a med practitioner in nigeria.

If you're Rh-negative and were not given RhoGAM during your previous pregnancy or 72hrs after birth, and tests reveal that you've developed Rh antibodies capable of attacking an Rh-positive fetus, amniocentesis can be used to check the blood type of the fetus.

If it's Rh-negative, you and your baby have compatible blood types and there's no cause for concern or treatment. If it's Rh positive, and thus incompatible with your blood type, your antibody levels will be monitored regularly.

If the levels become dangerously high, ultrasound tests are done to assess the condition of the fetus. If at any point the safety of the fetus is threatened because hemolytic or Rh disease has developed, a transfusion of Rh-negative blood to the fetus may be necessary.

Just speak with your gynea to know how to proceed.

Congratulations Varvara.
1.5 months for birth certificate is not correct...

I had my baby at St Francis Hospital last week (September 2nd to be precise). The admin lady told me it takes 10 business days for birth certificate to be ready at the LA county office.

HOWEVER, i called the county yesterday 9th September, and i have confirmed that my birth certificate is ready. I will be collecting it on Monday 12th.
You should ask that she should book it as an expedited request.

Also if youre in a hurry, you should already book your passport appointment... The open dates are going far into the future...

cheesy cheesy @ far into the future

Congrats @vervara you have the luck of enjoying cheap options o. Mihs in 2014, then this wink. Mihs reviewed their prices before i could book my appointment with them in 2014. I hope our LA hospital would not do same o. Dollar isn't smiling, i so need this option angry.

Please am new on this thread, and this is my first post. Am so happy with what I read. Am 2 months pregnant and I planned to give birth in Canada, Montreal to be precise. I was in Canada with a visitors visa last year and the visa I got it in 2012 when they have not started biometrics. When I got into Canada last years I submitted a student application but later withdrew it cos I was told I needed to submit from outside Canada. And presently me and hubby have submitted our residency application form, which he is the principal applicant.
My question is, if am applying for this visa now, should I apply for medical or just visitors visa like I normally do?, will the student application I submitted while in Canada last year affect this application? Although I have not ten printed and will our ongoing permanent residency application affect it. Am going alone without my hubby and my brother who is a citizen is helping out with the invitation.
I will not also mind if a can get a cheap birth package. Thank you so much
Pls is there a seperate form for medical visa ?

Iomoge2, my sister dat thing you read is farrrrrr from reality o!

Iyawotobe, welcome dear!

Lemme share my own experience; Infact this night own sef...lol

I think it's easier to wean girls than boys! Just like Graciouscahris said, my mum took my son away for the weekend so he could stop breastfeeding; he cooperated with them but the moment he saw me! The tears and request came back, I couldn't help it, we had to continue.

I got pregnant when he ws 9 months so I tot once he starts eating everytin, he will give up! No way o! At last doc appointment, I ws told to try wean him while I prepare for new baby. So this night, I said no breast feeding. He has drank 3 bottles of pediasure! He still kept pullin my boobies and started cry o! Granma hs cum twice to ask wats wrong wit him, I finally told her and she said instant approach is not the solution. That I shld withdraw gradually else I won't catch any sleep. Do you know once I gave him, funny Enuf he took very small and has been playing and smiling since.

I ws cumin to share my concern here when I saw it's the issue on ground already..lol.

My advise:

1. Do it gradually. Replace daytime with tea or other beverages

2. Supplement night time with beverage too.

I will come back to share the end otherwise na tandem feeding we go do cheesy
Hahahahaha grin Are you kidding me ? You are that far along and still breastfeeding ? I don enter am o. How will i do this ? How old is your son pls ?

missmalachi:

Gradual process is the best method for weaning if there is still time.
I wean my baby 2 wks to her bday and it was easy.i started at 6 month gradually by stopping breastfeeding at night and by 7 month she learnt how to sleep through out the night without feeding.when it was time to stop breastfeeding, she was already like 3 month use to not eating at night and the weaning process was easy.

You can start by feeding well before bedtime and when she wakes at night give ther other food not breast milk.she will adjust within 3 wks.
Ok. Going gradual. It takes patience, i guess.

Thanks sis

Chaiiiii. Abeg oooo. It doesn't always work like this oooo.
@ iyawotobe, I want to advise you based on personal experience. I'll suggest you don't go cold turkey.
Firstly, it may wreck you emotionally considering the fact that you are pregnant. Will you be able to withstand watching your baby cry for hours without food? Some babies can stay for one week without their mum but once they see their mum, they want their boobi back and the cry starts all over again.
Secondly, a woman can actually breastfeed a baby while pregnant as long as it's not a risk to you or the baby in your womb. I took in for my 3rd baby when my second was just 9mths old and I weaned him off boobi at one year.
This is what I did, I reduced the number of times I breastfed him in the daytime, I do one less feeding per day every three days. For night feeding, I make sure he eats enough cereal before bed and I offer water if he wakes up and breastfeed once in the early morning. If you breastfeed like 4 times in d night, you can start reducing it that way, your body adjusts to this.
I have super supply when I'm breastfeeding but I've never had engorgement issues while weaning and my children sleep through the night once I wean them.
I also heard that some children are very sensitive to pregnancy hormones so they wean themselves once their mum gets pregnant.
I'll only suggest going cold turkey if the child is about 15 mths, eats solid well but is difficult to wean because he uses breast to soothe.
In all, choose what works best for you.
The bolded is exactly where the problem is cry Will try the gradual approach as you have suggested. Thanks kiss

Stop o.
At once.. and be serious especially at night cos its easier to give baby boobies at night to stop d wailing.

Tell ur baby no more boobies for u.
The child will hear. Lol
Then use cabbage to wrap ya boobies be4 wearing bra.

This helps a lot.
Do it as often as possible.
If your child is crying too much. Take him/ her to grand parents let the baby spend 3days...
At night when baby wakes up make better tea. Feed baby n pet to sleep... night is more difficult.

No pity pity if u r serious.

I no get experience o.
Just wat i have been reading. Lol.

Sabi mamas will help out.
Hmmmm. Na wa o. Seems like an emotional process for me embarassed
I thought they said pregnancy hormones dry up the milk?

hey sis, I'm back ooo... God is faithful indeed. its looking like its LA for me this time ,only the accommodation is proving challenging like you said. Can't imAgine that one would have to pay so much more for accommodation than the medicals itself, got one and was about to commit but hubby is reading all these things on the internet about gangs and shootings and stuff around all those areas near the hospital and doctor's office and he said no way, that we should look for a better and safer neighborhood, It's not like these ones are even cheap sef o. I con ask am whether na for Beverly Hills abi for Calabasas him want make we stay on top this dollar ish. How is your lil one doing too? Regards
Lol @ your hubby. I have read some stuff about it too, particularly about Craiglist apartments. May God continue to protect us.
I actually don't have any concrete plans yet, but i am leaning towards LA too. We will see how it goes sha

I assume you are applying for a visitor visa. Below is the link to the CIC guide to apply for a visitor visa.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5256ETOC.asp

Online applicants completed the questionnaire that generated the required forms for us to to fill and upload. As a paper applicant, please thoroughly review the guide and print out Document Checklist (IMM 5484).

TIPS:

1) When you hover around an area in some of the forms, hints pop up on how to complete it.

2) Take note of "if applicable" forms and consult the guide for further clarification.

3) Answer all sections. If a section does not apply to you then answer NA or Not Applicable.

Godspeed
Thanks so much jayfierce, i am actually going the paper route. But i guess the forms should be pretty much the same. Abi?

Do we need to create an account online?

I will answer your questions n sections just like you have asked them.

1. Depending on what part of the country, can go from 1000 up since it's 2 bedroom

2. If you are going to be in Toronto which I advise you stay since you don't know any whine then the set up I'd like US and buses run till 2 am.

3. Birth certificate, passport all takes about 5 to 7 business days so u apply as soon as you can and follow up too by tracking it online or calling them if need be. I always tell people to fill the passport application form and get it ready so once the birth certificate comes, u just go and submit the application. If your map ouse won't be coming with you, they will require that he goes to one of the canadian embassy and sign sumthing just to make sure he's the baby's Father. I have an insider in Nigerian embassy in ottawa cuz to go there and their yeye is sumthing else and I always advise for travel document and when you get to naija you do passport . The guy charges for it anywayz but it's always ur best best .

4. Toronto is your best bet esp since you don't know anyone

Good luck
