Theflint1: The terrorists that kidnapped the students and teachers in Oyo have as one of their demands release of their ISIS-trained commanders, and at some point have said that's all they need. Are those guys bandits, Boko Haram, Lakurawa or ISWAP terrorists?
There's a heavy overlap between Islamic/ethnic ideological warfare with varying forms of criminality, and this is more reason why non-kinetic approaches would have to be integrated.
I never said that terrorists should be negotiated with instead of defeated, not sure why that seems to be all you and BluRay took from all I've been saying. You never said so. Obi said. |

Theflint1: Like I said before, it's up to Peter Obi to explain exactly what he meant by the statement, and how he'd go about execution.
And regardless of what Peter Obi said now, I've been of the opinion that some non-kinetic approaches would be needed to resolve this conflict and provide lasting peace. Is the issue of Banditry a "Conflict"? |

Theflint1: Izzou this is one way.
Another way is whichever government in charge actually confronts the situation with the seriousness it deserves.
Buhari was Boko Haram in spirit which meant he handled it with kid gloves, and Tinubu is disgusted with the thought of handling matters of security and when he's not expressing disgust is playing politics with it. If I have to agree with everything Obi says, then I am not different from the APC loyalists wey dey support Tinubu in everything. There's no sense is negotiating with terrorists |

BlueRayDick: I just tire.
Making any move to negotiate with terrorists will never ever make sense. Maybe FG should kukuma free Nnamdi Kanu and allow him too to continue with his IPOB/ESN comrades so government can negotiate with him too. Since we are in the season of negotiation and amnesty. I just wrote this now, without seeing yours Nobody has called IPOB to the table after a Northerner proscribed them. E reach Southerner turn, because e wan win election, e ready to serve Bandit rice and stew. Fvvcking Cowards |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 2:41pm On Jun 18 |
Theflint1: The bandits will come with their demands, and you meet them halfway, and it has to be done in a manner in which it doesn't look like you're rewarding them for being criminals, and at the same time not leaving them high and dry.
This isn't Nigeria's first rodeo with this sort of rehabilitation effort. Yes their needs will differ in some way, but ultimately would coalesce around basic human needs. There are experts that would work out all these fine details, it's not my job. But my point is non-kinetic approaches would be implemented, either concurrently with the kinetic, or at the end. The bandits demand is usually money, so what's halfway to you? Reducing 500 million to 250 million? Una dey make me dey laugh Katsina state government has been meeting bandits halfway for years. Do you think these people will collect money or whatever demands you meet, and quit? I believe this is a Southern way to appeal for Northern votes, because this thing makes no sense at all. Obi never applauded anybody for negotiating with bandits. He didn't negotiate as a governor in Anambra. Na as e wan become president, w remember Negotiations Buhari proscribed IPOB. Heaven did not fall. He stood on that business till his death. Even as at today, nobody is negotiating with IPOB. Their leader is in Sokoto Maximum prison. Na Northerner run am But when it gets to a Southerner, we begin to make sense out of nonsense so we can win election votes, even if it means half of our people dead. |

Theflint1: The real question is would the US allow a domestic terrorist organization grow to this level of rascality? No.
Now that is out of the way, how does the US handle domestic criminals, do they strike deals with them for good behavior, a willingness to snitch, and for helping them close case files? Yes. We are talking about life here..A human life. That is why I am still asking you guys what line is off limits as a country? USA is striking deals with fraudsters, etc for lesser deals and recovering their loots. Do you really think the USA will be sharing negotiation handshakes if groups are springing up, kidnapping people and killing them? You know the answer, but we can still stretch the argument further |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 1:57pm On Jun 18 |
Theflint1: Palestinians kidnapped Israelis, how did it end? Hostage negotiation.
Criminals regularly strike deals for shorter sentences and better prison condition.
The US has and continues to negotiate with all manner of criminals, domestic and foreign. Even for crime documentaries, you'd see serial killers negotiate escaping death penalty in return for showing the places they buried their victims.
What I see here is you're confusing the culture of negotiation for kidnapping that has come to become the norm with a holistic plan put in place by the government to force criminals to a peace deal. Nigeria has focused on the former, and not the latter.
The reason amnesty for Niger Delta Militants worked was because the militants realized that the war was only going to end with them dead or in prison, and the government knew that having the militants dead or in prison would cost them more overtime, and had no guarantee of long-term stability in the region. What exactly will you be negotiating with? Let me even ask you, because I perceive you don't understand the side you're taking. What exactly will you offer the bandits for a peace deal? |

raumdeuter: In the world we currently live in, you are not allowed to do anything to anyone no matter how criminal he is.
Even if he just killed 20 children, as long as he claimed he surrendered, You have to let legal process address it and watch him fed and live off your taxes
Its a ridiculous standard the world has set for itself, its not Obi, Tinubu or izzou that set this standards but we all have to abide by it
True life story, An older friend in the US military Allen West, in Afghanistan they hired a local interpreter they didnt know the interpreter has been compromised, leaked secrets to Taliban that got many soldiers in Allen command killed. In the process of interrogation this interpreter had a lawyer present, they were just asking questions, Allen got so angry took his gun, and fired close to the interpreters ears, which made him confess
Guess what happened, Allen was dismissed from US military and his career ruined. Why because of a law some people who have and wont be on the battle field set for people who are gambling their lives 50-50 on a daily basis You are saying a lot without addressing a single word I typed. In the USA, will Trump negotiate with a group who's sole aim is to kidnap people and kill them or collect ransoms? If you say a terrorist or a bandit has earned the right to be negotiated with, which group can we actually say no to? We are not talking about two different countries. In a country, groups are springing up with the aim of killing and kidnapping people, and negotiating with them is an option? Wonderful! |
