Romance › Re: What Lead To Biafra War by JacksonD7: 8:48pm On Jun 05, 2017 |
Marioplus: WHAT THEY NEVER TOLD YOU ABOUT OJUKWU AND BIAFRA. By Laa Pulga Prince Colonel Ojukwu didn't just wake up one morning and decided to go to war with Nigeria. After the 1966 northern counter coup where Aguyi ironsi was betrayed by his own head of security guard and murdered in Abeokuta. The key players in this northern coup were Murtala Mohammed and Theophilus Danjuma ( the head of security of Ironsi). After this northern coup, things escalated and it became a public brawl. The igbos were now been killed in the north WITHOUT A REASON and they all began to run back to the east. They were recieved by the military Governor of the east who Ironsi has appointed, his name was LT. COLONEL CHUKWUEMEKA OJUKWU. Ojukwu made his stance to Lagos that he was unhappy with the events but that there won't be a reprisal attack from the igbos. As at this time in Nigeria, there had been a previous coup it was bloody. So it was expected that the igbos would make a reprisal one, since this northern coup was already a counter coup in the first place. Now, in Ikeja , the British (who would later go on to support Nigeria during the war) were having a meeting with the northerners and decided to hand over the reins of affari to the HIGHEST RANKING NORTHERN OFFICER IN THE MILITARY. A man called Lt- Col Gowon. Murtala Mohammed never forgave GOWON for this and this would lead to the coup which overthrew GOWON many years later. This isn't our focus for now. Now this was part of the problem. This is Nigeria, you want a military leader to lead. You should get the highest ranking Nigerian military officer not the highest ranking NORTHERN officer. That move alone, heightened the tension. That was how Gowon became the head of state then. Now there were igbos example OJUKWU who had a higher ranking than Gowon. The highest ranking military man was Brigadier Ogundipe who in the eyes of OJUKWU should have been the head of state. When Ojukwu rejected the appointment of GOWON. This brought about a personal hatred for Ojukwu by GOWON. But the northerners with the support of the British took power for themselves. And then Gowon turned a blind eye to the igbos been massacred in the north. Sounds familiar to what is happening today with Buhari and the herdsmen?. This angered Ojukwu. His brothers/sisters were been killed and GOWON the head of state pretended as if nothing was going on. GOWON then was 31. GOWON was a Christian by religion. But in matters of ethnicity, loyalty isn't shared. Ojukwu asked a famous question at an interview in Enugu, the capital of the eastern government. The Question was. "At what stage do this killings become a genocide?". The killing of the igbos started well before the war. Northerners were having a Field day killing the igbos. Ojukwu found a way out or thought he found a way out. He approached Obafemi Awolowo who was still in prison then and the most influential Yoruba person at that point. He asked Awolowo to take the yorubas out of Nigeria, so he too can take the igbos out of Nigeria. Then the northerners can have Nigeria to themselves. Awolowo thought and considered the idea for a moment. Problem was, oil had been discovered in the south and east and they knew the wealth it would bring to that region. The north approached Obafemi and gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. Obafemi immediately after his release, was to announce the secession of the Oduduwa republic ( yorubas) from Nigeria. So as OJUKWU can do same with Biafra and leave the north in Nigeria alone. Instead, he accepted a top position as the highest ranking civilian in Gowon's regime, essentially creating a north and west alliance, leaving the east out in the cold. It was ironical that Awolowo who was one of those that fought for an independent Nigeria would support a GOWON regime that was bent on wiping out igbos from the earth's surface. The British kept quiet, Awolowo supported GOWON. And this emboldened GOWON the more. And OJUKWU couldn't fold his hands and do nothing. Britain has a part of blame in the Biafra war. " He who sits on the fence in the face of abuse, has inadvertently taken the side of the abuser". Igbos were suffering and most of them already displaced were encouraging Ojukwu to take them out of Nigeria and declare Biafra. GOWON had threatened that if Ojukwu tries it, it would be seen as an act of treason and police action would be taken- a euphemism for war. How can your people be killed indiscriminately and you are asked to seat and do nothing?. Whose father would seat at home and see his sons killed like fowls and fold his hands? OJUKWU remember was the military Governor of the eastern province. And this pained him a lot. Ojukwu still wanted diplomatic reasonings to things. And he threw the final dice to ensure a diplomatic ending to the fights. It was ABURI ABURI, GHANA. In a bid to avoid hostilities, both sides decided to meet on a neutral ground. So they met in ABURI, Ghana in January 1967 as guest of General Joseph Ankrah for peace talks. In that meeting, a declaration was announced that the use of force as the means of settling the present crisis in Nigeria should be stopped. That the killing of igbos should be stopped. And also that revenues and allocations be shared equally. And also that positions in government should be given factoring all three provinces. The ABURI accord did not see the light of the day. Factoring the fact that oil has been found in the Niger-delta. The killings of the Igbos had not stopped and to make matters worse on May 5 1967, GOWON divided the 3 Nigerian regions into 12 states. The North-western state, North- Eastern state, Kano State, North- central state , Benue-plateau state, Kwara State, western state, Lagos State, mid-western state, Rivers State, southern-east state and east-central state. What does that tell you? The north was given six states, the west given 3 states and the east given 3 states. Now remember there was already an unofficial alliance between the north and the west. So it was basically a 9 against 3. You had oil and someone wants to share with you and proceeded to give you the least So the east had the oil, but from the very onset of time since the GOWON regime, the north had always had a bigger share of the revenue coming from the east. At this point, it was too much for OJUKWU to take. Igbos were still been killed. Now , igbos were subjugated and were now getting little of their own resources. OJUKWU had no choice than to take the igbos out of Nigeria. This happened 5th of May and by end of May Ojukwu had declared the independence of the republic of Biafra and war had broken out. Remember the same Britain who kept quiet when GOWON was running amok. Same British supported Nigeria in arms and aids. Same Britain watched and saw millions of children killed because of starvation. Same Britain who is forming moral standard in the world today were enablers of that Biafra war. It was only France that came to the aid of Biafra. It's been 50 years and what our schools has succeeded to let us know was that Ojukwu woke up one morning and decided to go to war. HE HAD NO CHOICE. Prominent Nigerians who fought against OJUKWU includes. Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Ken saro-wiwa Muhammadu Buhari Ibrahim Babangida Benjamin Adekunle Olusegun Obasanjo. All went on to play important roles in Nigeria. 4 of them becoming head of state/president. You see why they think it is their right to ruke Nigeria. I hope we never get to see wars again. I hope Biafra comes diplomatically. Ozoemena. True talk, this is history a lot of people don't know. |

tosyne2much: A very good Christian just that I always spill out the truth anytime any day. My sense of reasoning is not beclouded like that of others He's right about some things, wrong about others. I agree that ignorance of history is truly a problem, the survivalist mentality is brought about by necessity, but it's a mindset that can be changed. On the other hand, blaming backwardness on religion is kind of cheap. Western civilization flourished and dominated a large portion of the world while having Christianity as a cornerstone, did that ret@rd their development?. The removal of religion from the social narrative is one of the reasons the western world is currently sliding down the pit of decadence. While it's true that religion does have it pitfalls, it is not wise for one to condemn it just because it doesn't fit their political ideology. Atheists seem to forget the fact that the arrival of Christianity fazed out a lot of harmful traditional practices (the killing of twins, human sacrifice, cannibalism etc), and provided a sense of unity to the disparate tribes of Nigeria. Religion has been a pillar of societies from the beginning of time till now, anyone who denies the role that religions play in developing civilizations, needs to wake up. There would be no European civilization without Christianity, the Arab world would look very different without Islam, where would Africa be without it's numerous indigenous religions maintaining law and order throughout the centuries?. As a fellow Christian who believes in speaking truth, I have to say that the misguided attack on religion is actually doing more harm than good to modern day societies. |

Politics › Is Being Politically Active Worth It? : A Youthful Perspective by JacksonD7(op): 11:56am On Jun 05, 2017*. Modified: 12:40pm On Jun 05, 2017 |
Back in secondary school, our teachers lectured us on a topic called political participation. The basic idea of those lectures was to tell us that being politically active was important and beneficial to a youth, but looking at the Nigeria of today you begin to doubt the authenticity of the idea. Youths of today are being used politically, politicians get into their heads clamoring for votes and at the end of the day what do they get?. Failed campaign promises, like the N5000 promised to unemployed youths which the current government blew into the wind. It's sad to see youths being used as political thugs, who go about risking their lives for politicians who don't even know they exist. The decision to use youths as political cannon fodder is breeding and amplifying negative attitudes among the youths of today. There are youths out there who would gladly insult and get violent with their elders, just because they're in different political parties. Social media has become a tool for youths to debase themselves online, using political and ethnic differences. I'm well aware of the flawed foundations of this country and its democracy, but that shouldn't give youths an excuse to antagonize each other in cyber space, while there are more productive ventures to engage themselves in. Let's not forget the ridiculous things people do in the name of politics, e.g burning brooms, carrying coffins with opposition party colours on it. https://cdn1.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/APC-DECAMPEES1.pnghttps://thenews-chronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Celebration-in-Osogbo-360x246.jpg Political participation also seems to be breeding lazy and unenterprising youths, there are many out there who feel entitled to sit down and wait for government jobs, as compensation for their efforts during elections. Others engage themselves in dubious empowerment schemes which usually fizzle out after a while, the idea of finding ways to empower themselves so they wouldn't have to rely on any government, is often times not considered at all. To be honest with you, I hardly see any concrete reasons for youths to be cracking their heads over Nigerian politics, the political scene isn't even favourable to us. How many youths are ministers, governors, senators etc, after all we live in a country where the minister of youth is 52 years old, that tells you the kind of system we run. Now I'm not saying that youths should never get involved in politics, I'm just saying that youths should play politics with common sense, and not give themselves away to politicians who will only use and dump them when they achieve their goals. At the end of the day everyone will have his or her own opinion, that's mine up there and I'd like to know yours. cc Lalasticlala |

Sometime ago, I came across some online polls asking guys their preference between feminine women and tomboys. In one poll 54% of the participants chose tomboys, in another there were three choices available (A) Feminine (B) Tomboys (C) A little bit of both, 82% of the participants chose option C
This got me thinking, are men really attracted to masculine women or is it just a fad they eventually grow out of?. If men are truly attracted to tomboys then what would be the reason?, is this a result of lack of masculinity?. On a normal day masculine energy is naturally drawn to feminine energy and vice versa, with the abundance of beta males in feminized modern day societies could be that some effeminate men are simply being attracted to women with a masculine essence, the same way moths are attracted to flame?.
Even if a truly masculine man were to date a tomboy, their union might not last. I've heard of men getting into relationships with tomboys, only to have the thrill fizzle out, when they realize that they're better off without an overly masculine woman. I'll admit, that personally I have a thing for women with "tomboyish" personality traits (I call them feminine tomboys). But this was stronger back when I was between the ages 14 - 17, I now have a taste for girly girls, even though there's still an exotic feeling associated with the thought of being with a tomboy.
After years of pondering this issue, I've come to the conclusion that they're three classes of men who are really into tomboys;
* Effeminate men who are in touch with their "feminine" side, it's not odd to picture men like this with tomboys. By the way, there are indications that women like that seem to prefer relationships with submissive men, and detest having a dominant man who they can't control around. (two tigers cannot live on the same mountain)
* Masculine men who date tomboys for the thrill, but eventually drop them when it gets weird and they start losing interest . (dating a tomboy might make you feel like you're dating a guy, not many men can handle this)
* Masculine men who truly love tomboys, and feel comfortable with them no matter what. (we'll leave the issue of whether they're normal or not for another day)
Well,that's my opinion up there. If you're a man and you're attracted to tomboys, or something in between, then kindly share your reasons below. Guys on the other end of the spectrum are also free to share their thoughts and opinions. |

RaggedyAnn: The facts don't need twisting to favour my point, but you'd have to twist them to favour yours. If Nigerians are as disgusted with thieves as with homosexuals, why do they not express it? Or do they not know how to lynch politicians? Nigerians don't lynch thieves , are you typing this from outer space?. If lynching politicians was easy anybody would do it, good luck getting through their security. If you live in Nigeria, then you would be familiar with the disgust people have for the current administration, go to the marketplace and see the expressions of people for yourself. Once again don't twist facts to suit your liberal ideology, while conveniently ignoring the ones that counter your stand. |

First she was wearing her buttlift, something she has not worn in over a year, infact never thought she had it again. The enthusiasm in her dressing gave me chills, like wow, this woman dnt dress up like this when am at home. Next thing, wore her dress and put on her best wig. Started taking photos with her phone and typing bla bla bla. She then stepped out with the kids. Following her with my car at the back , I called and asked what the kids had for dinner, and then asked if she was driving, she said yes, said she wanted to go pick Cway water. Said ok no P. Saw that she parked somewhere and bought the water, then advanced to her friends place very close. I parked to observe, she was at her friends for close to an hour, she drove out and started heading towards home. I followed, 5 mins after she got it, I bursted into the room with surprise, she was about putting off the buttlift, I then asked her, wow, why are u wearing buttlift, she said shes just testing it now, I asked if she wore it out, she swore she didnt, said its weird for u to wear buttlift u said ur not interested in again, she still denided. So I opened up to her that I saw her while she was dressing up to go out, that I didnt like that she lied again, it was part of the deal breaker for the reconcilation I made after she cheated on me, she said if she told me, I might feel she wanted to go and see a guy. So I asked why she wore it since she wanted to go buy water and see her friend not too far away from home, she said she just wanted to test how it is when she remembered she was going to buy water and kukuma wore it out. So I asked if her best wig was also part of the test, she said no, that she didnt want her friends husband to look at her as a old woman with her natural hair.
