PoliticsRe: Jonathan’s 100 Days In Office A Waste –Buhari by JamesDoe: 5:04pm On Sep 08, 2011
GEJ is Nigeria's Sarah Palin, dour and flaccid.

While Buhari is currently a private individual whose daily actions do not impact the lives of Nigerians everywhere.

Buhari, though, is an ineffective and tired opposition leader. His lack of enthusiasm in engaging with the wider population in between elections is astonishing. His record of delegating vital responsibilities to others is depressing and his ability to judge others' character is flawed eg Abacha, Abacha's son etc.

Saying all the above though, I have to wonder if Nigerians did not make a massive mistake in allowing GEJ and PDP to waltz into power.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan’s 100 Days In Office A Waste –Buhari by JamesDoe: 12:58pm On Sep 08, 2011
Buhari's 100 days in opposition had equally been a waste.

-Where are his opposition policies?
- Why hasn't he challenged PDP on their various promises?
- Why is his party not making bridges and inroads to the states where they performed woefully?
- Why hasn't his party carried out investigations of corrupt practices and policies?

BusinessRe: CBN To Switch 5-10% Of Forex Reserves To Chinese Yuan by JamesDoe: 11:42pm On Sep 06, 2011
^^^^^ a very good question,

Naira/$ rate is controlled by CBN within a band/range. The current devaluation of $ and £ due to the global economic crisis has allowed the crashing of the Naira to be masked. The minimum wage, elections and new political order has to be paid for somehow.

Ordinarily, as Nigeria is a net importer of goods and an exporter of Oil, you would expect the Naira (and our $ reserves) to rise and fall fairly in line with the oil price. Oil represents c$50bn of Nigeria's $300bn GDP and is our main generator of $ reserves.
TravelRe: Customs Checks At Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos by JamesDoe: 11:30pm On Sep 06, 2011
Arrive the airport in plenty of time. If you refuse to give them money they can't do you anything.

I fly in and out of MMA often and I don't give them a kobo.

At Customs, Departure, Passport, SSS: "Anything for us sir"?
Me: "God bless you".
Them: "Have a good flight"
And they leave me alone.
PoliticsRe: Daniel Can’t Return To Pdp –obasanjo by JamesDoe: 8:17am On Sep 06, 2011
Why don't we Naijas hold our rulers to these same standard,

-IBB/Atiku/OBJ must not return to leadership;
-Corrupt politicians have failed us and would do worse if they come back;
-Failed officials and some traditional rulers have worked against Nigeria's interest.

FOI Act doesn't mean that all info would be provided just like that,

If you like ask tire, if I classify even a blank sheet of paper as national security then no expose' . And the criteria for classifying a document as national security is quite subjective.

I am glad Wikileaks is exposing what was said in the dark,

But:

How come all our so called rulers are leaking and reporting to the US ambassador. Are they all spies or is it that the US has massive filing cabinets on all of them,

Or abi na fear of Abiola style exit is causing them all to talk.

Our sovereignty has been sold: lock, stock and barrel!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Protests Killing Of Its Nationals In Libya by JamesDoe: 2:25pm On Sep 05, 2011
White and Arab mercenaries have been all over Africa, with Africans not attacking these mercenaries. The minute some idiot is rumoured to use a handful of Africans as mercenaries the press ignores the wholesale killing and cleansing of Africans in Libya.

Na wa oh. Anyhow it is good the Govt has spoken, a pity it is late and likely to be just by mouth alone.

PoliticsRe: Abiola's Death: Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar Will Respond "At The Right Time" by JamesDoe: 8:45pm On Sep 04, 2011
Definitely need to find out what happened to Abacha. The office of commander in chief has to be respected. But Abacha was a demon among demons and we should not corrupt history with lies.

TravelRe: Behold - Nigeria Most Expensive Neighbourhood by JamesDoe: 10:17am On Sep 02, 2011
It's a big bubble. Many big men and banks built properties there with borrowed money. They are now praying, hoping and begging to get their money back. They overestimated the influx of expats and diaspora Naijas bringing in FDI.

And to add to it, big men like Adenuga are reported to allegedly have more than one massive mansion there. But with little community spirit the place may fail. Case in point is the access road, only passable by 4 x 4. There is also poor drainage with champagne bottles floating in the gutter. Numerous uncompleted buildings and little or no basic social amenities.

So big men don't have drivers, workers etc who may need social amenities. Ok oh, these people will answer the call of nature wherever suits them then.
TravelRe: Behold - Nigeria Most Expensive Neighbourhood by JamesDoe: 3:18am On Sep 02, 2011
Banana Island, a very expensive "slum in the making".

Sure it has good looking buildings and exclusivity, but the roads are very bad, the sewage system is poor and the gutters flood easily. There are limited entry and exit points and it is truly only accessible by a 4 x 4.

Naija na wah oh!!!

Keep the baby - do DNA to confirm paternity once child is born;
Tell her husband but be careful in how he is told;

IslamRe: Why Are Muslims Preventing Inter Religious Marriage? by JamesDoe: 11:38am On Aug 31, 2011
@OP

Depends on your ethnic group. As pointed out above by another poster, we Yorubas generally do not discriminate on religious grounds when it comes to marriage.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Speaks Again: Unmask Boko Haram Now by JamesDoe: 7:42am On Aug 31, 2011
Almajiris in the North are plenty partly because Northern Nigeria is the Mecca for many West African Fulanis.

Fulani People from as far away as The Gambia send their children to Northern Nigeria. We do not have any proper border security, so anybody can come to Nigeria and misbehave.
BusinessRe: "nigeria Sat X Performing Very Well" by JamesDoe: 5:16pm On Aug 29, 2011
Have we built the necessary infrastructure on the ground to use this information. All we seem to have is a control centre in Abuja.

If we had simply used weather balloons and weather stations with a weather system the vital information would spread better and technology transfer and knowledge building will be organic.

Instead we go for this "orgasmic" infantile ambition of launching a White elephant. Next thing people would sit down and be dependent on Abuja to spread the information. The regions and states would continue to be dependent on Abuja. We know how well that has worked out historically.

Abuja, in turn, depends on Russia and UK to replace, monitor and control the satellite.

Economic growth and development can only happen organically, aptly aided by things we can copy easily and support locally.

This "space program" is just one great big "masturbxtion"!
BusinessRe: "nigeria Sat X Performing Very Well" by JamesDoe: 2:26pm On Aug 29, 2011
@ Ochi-Aha

The last satellite we sent to space ended up as space junk which had to be junked to avoid crashing into other countries' satellites.

Our focus should be on creating jobs, industrial clusters to foster economic growth and development.

The US and UK still use weather balloons and weather stations so that excuse you gave does not hold water.

Enough with White elephant projects.

Ok, let's use the satellites to confirm population density,
BusinessRe: "nigeria Sat X Performing Very Well" by JamesDoe: 1:16pm On Aug 29, 2011
We are launching satellites,

Common air balloons and weather stations could have been used. These would have created more jobs, had a greater social impact on the communities and also created small cottage industries.

Instead we "built and launched" satellites that we probably cannot maintain.

Come back home to face:

- GEJ
- Boko Haram
- Kidnapping
- MEND
- OPC
- MASSOB
- Armed robbery
- Bank redundancies
- NEPA
- Flooding
- Lecturers looking to sleep with your children

- Lying employers who skip paying your salary
- Yeye Govt officials who wouldn't give you the right documents to start a business
- Seasonal and annual ethnic cleansing
- etc

Which of the above should we come back to meet?
PoliticsRe: Ministers Unhappy With President’s Directive To Cooperate With Okonjo-Iweala by JamesDoe: 7:28pm On Aug 28, 2011
One of the most important issues affecting Naija is the economy.

It is not unusual for the minister in charge of the economy to be the defacto second in command.

Abeg if she can improve the economy then full support!!!
